Telstra Friends & Family: Phone (Galaxy S8, Pixel XL + More) + 15GB Data - $59/Month (24 Month Contract)

5480

Facebook post for the promotion

Family and friends of Telstra staff can get a Pixel 1 32GB, Pixel 1 XL 32GB, Samsung S8 64GB, iPhone 6s 32GB or Telstra Signature 2 when they take up our $59/mth Friends and Family Go Mobile Plus BYO plan for 24 months with a huge 15GB of data and no additional phone repayments (Min cost $1416. Data for use in Australia).

The offer ends 25 December 2017, while stocks last

It's basically a repeat of this deal but with a ~$800 phone included as well (on 24 months instead of 12 month term).

Compared to this $49/month JB BYO deal, you are paying an extra $240 over the 24 months and giving up $200 JB gift card & 5GB of data; however you are getting a $600-$900ish phone included instead.

If you value the Galaxy S8 at $800 (I think the cheapest deal we saw was $799 for Bing Lee) then you are paying $640 over 24 months for the 15GB contract = $26.66/month which seems like a great deal on the Telstra network and also no upfront cost required. That's probably the best value there since the Pixel XL and iPhone 6s are older models but they are options for Apple users or someone not wanting to go down the Samsung path.

CIS for the $59/Plan. 15GB data, unlimited calls/sms/mms/voicemail, no international calls.

Only available for recontract, new activations and port-ins on the $59 Friends and Family Go Mobile Plus BYO plan for 24mths with a Google Pixel 1 32GB, Google Pixel 1 XL 32GB, Samsung Galaxy S8, iPhone 6s 32GB or Telstra Signature 2. Not available with any other offer (including second service credit or port in credit) except Telstra staff discount.

Note: You may be able to receive an extra 5GB of data via the chat popup. See here.

        • me too! The only thing thats driving me mad with it is battery life. i get 4 hours max these days, though I am a heavy user.

  • Is this available to everyone? or only those who knows someone who works for Telstra?

    • Everyone I've just signed up

      • So sign up new contract and get 2 phone ?

  • Whoops

  • What's the benefit of signing up to this deal through JB Hi-Fi rather than Telstra directly?

  • I'm with Optus on contract but would like to take up this offer. How do I take my current number to telstra but keep my optus service active under a new number for my wife?

    • +1

You could either, make a new number on your account, or your wife could make an account with Optus. If you're on a good deal with Optus, you'll lose it when you port your number out. You can't transfer offers to another person.

  • This deal isn't valid through JB. This deal is only via the attached link and is 59bux with a phone and 5gigs less data.

  • Is it possible to get the 79/- plan with Friends and Family or at JB? Need IDD calls included

    • Nope, was pulled before release so unavailable anywhere.

  • I'm not tech savy, isn't BYO bring your own meaning that the phone is a lease? I couldn't see anywhere in the CIS where it said we could keep the phone. Confirmation also lists my plan as "S"?

  • Hi. Great deal. Just wondering if you'd still get the Apple music with this deal?

    • +1

      Yes 6 months

  • This ad totally frustates me, have been a member of telstra for many years over the last 6 month have not been able to get proper interned coverage at home, we have gad to use all our data on our hand held devices to get access yrt we are not offered any deals or support like this one offered to family and friend this just adds to my frustration and anger

    • You can take this deal up from a JB or probably Telstra store Nina! Give it a shot!

  • How do you actually get the deal. Has anyone posted links?

  • I dont get this. So if i sign up for new plan $59, i can get 2 phone ? Anyone explain me please

Edit: my bad. Didnt see BYO . Got too excited

  • +2

Hi there, just signed up for this deal! I got a pop up for the extra 5gb which disappeared. Started my order anyway, and fired up sales chat. After asking the Sales rep he added the 5GB to my account no problems! Also went in via cashback so hopefully will get the $105 Cash Rewards cashback. Not stressed if I don't as this is an excellent deal. I was on $50 BYO 12GB plan, no problem to upgrade to this plan. New phone feeling means I can upgrade to new handset in 12 months for $140. So, for an extra $9 per month I get a brand spanking SG8 and extra 8GB of data! :-)

    • +1

Just got my cash rewards tracking confirmation for $105! :-)

      • Dude- nice!

      • Awesome. I went through cash rewards too. Then pasted the telstra link. It registered the click but no confirmation email. Damn. Did it take long to come through after your order.

        • About 15-20 mins.

      • +2

Remember, you can get it tracked but it doesn't mean it'll get approved.

        • I'm cool with that!

        • @Bargainbag: Deal would just get sweeter if it's approved. Keep us updated.

        • @TheOneWhoKnocks:

          I have an email stating:

This is your Cashrewards tracking receipt for your recent purchase at Telstra.
This sale now appears in your account as ‘pending’. When the store confirms the transaction, your cashback will be approved & available for > transfer to your bank account.

If I go to the Cashrewards website, it shows up added to my rewards balance already, but it is pending.

I guess I'll have to wait and see!

    • where is sales chat?

      • Pick your phone and start order process - link is up top of first landing page 24/7 Sales LiveChat or 8AM-9PM AEST call 1800 676 642

          champion!
hopefully It works. Someone said yesterday that the 5gb didn't apply to this offer so might just depend on the rep

        • +1

Also just had a chat session, they're happy to give the bonus 5gb and no penaltu for switching from the JB Hifi offer within the 12 month period.

    • Were you able to do this through live chat? Some of the reps have no idea what deal it is, onto the 5th one. Hopefully I'm lucky this time?

      • +3

Rep told me that you only get the 5GB when you port over from a different carrier. So if you're already on Telstra you won't get the extra 5GB. Since I'm porting from a different carrier, the rep told me to simply contact chat when the port is completed and I have my phone and they will manually apply the 5GB and to just complete the sign up process online. Seemed reasonably switched on, was my 2nd rep. First dude was hopeless.

        • Awesome! I'm having a hard time upgrading my BYO plan to this deal, I don't think they'll do it. Ah well!!

  • Great deal, however I just signed up on the JB Hifi $49 20gb with $200 JB Hifi voucher. I bet everyone signing up for this deal will opt for the Telstra Signature handset, LOL.

    • +3

you can upgrade your BYO plan from the one you just did at JB without any exiting fee as you are re-contracting (upgrading) within Telstra. plus you get to keep the $200 voucher.

      • +2

Thanks, that's a good deal 😀 I just got off the chat with a rep and they're happy to match the 20gb too.

        • glad that i could help

        • Can this really work, too good to be true?
Anything that must be mentioned to get it?

        • @nulled: interested in this as well, then i'd sign up to the $200 offer and then re-contract to the F&F offer

        • @nulled:
Yes, telstra now lets you to re-contract (with Telstra) as many times as you like with BYO without any penalties. So you could get the JB porting deal then a few days later re-contract to F&F as to get best of both deals.

        • @LDS: Didn't really need to wait for few days :)
          Thanks for the great tips!

For those that want unlimited international minutes (to the countries Telstra covers): 15GB data + UL intl calls = $49/mo.

    • How?

      • Do live chat with Telstra.

10GB data SIM only plan costs $49/mo.

Ask them to give an additional 5GB of data and take off $10/mo and they should oblige (at least, they did for me). If they do, ask for the employee number, a reference number of the chat, ask to email a chat transcript and take screenshot(s).

Add on the international pack for $10/mo so you get 15GB data with UL international minutes for $49/mo.

  • links seem to longer work, anyone have some advice on if it is still possible to get this deal?

  • Just ordered 3! For me, my wife and my in-law! Also got 5GB extra data too through web chat rep.

    Thanks OP!

    • Same, apparently you have to contact them on chat when you get your phone though (got a log of chat so w.e) and they manually apply it. It's also only available to people who are changing providers (so much for loyalty). That is what my Rep told me anyways.

Pretty insane deal, mrs has an iPhone 6s so decided to go on the 12 month $49 plan with the JB HI FI gift card thing.

  • Went into JB this morning and they are definitely offering the Family & Friends offer with a choice of handsets for $0. $59 BYO, 24 month, 15GB data.

Also they had another deal with iPhones…

Port from another provider to a $119 plan ($10 port in credit makes it $119), 60GB data, with iPhone 8 or 8+, and get a Bonus iPhone 6 32GB Prepaid handset!! So many deals at the moment.

    • Not as good as this deal imo, you're paying an extra $60 a month. An iPhone 6 32gb is only worth like $350. $350/24 is $14.50 a month for that phone. So It's $104.50 for an IPhone 8 or IPhone 8+ with 60gb of data vs $59 for a Samsung Galaxy S8 with 15gb (or 20gb if you can get it through chat). Pretty easy choice IMO.

      • +4

Just letting everyone know they had that offer as well…

        • Ye fair enough, but we are bargain hunters ;)

    • I'm confused about what exactly you get with the JB offer? Can anyone explain it to a simpleton lol

      • Family & Friends offer…
        $59 per month
        15GB data
        24 month plan
Choose from these handsets for $0
        Pixel 1 32GB
        Pixel 1 XL 32GB
        Galaxy S8
        iPhone 6S 32GB
        Telstra Signature 2

        or

        iPhone offer…
$119 per month (porting customers only)
        60GB data
iPhone 8 or 8+ (normal handset payments apply if there is any)
BONUS iPhone 6 32GB Prepaid Handset

        Hope that helps

        • I'm guessing there's no way to pay extra for a Pixel 2?

What's the byo deal at JB?

          Thanks for the reply

  • No dice for me with the 5gb bonus, tried twice via online chat and was basically told it cant be applied to such a deal without 2 or more other services on the same account with Telstra.

Great deal either way, as I only recently signed up to the 49 for 10gb offer.

Are the Galaxy S8s locked to Telstra, or are they just Telstra branded?

    • +1

Someone associated with Telstra said earlier they are just Telstra branded from JB HI FI, I would assume It's the same through Telstra.

  • With international calls i understand that no "minutes" are included in the plan. But can you still make international calls - even if its charged on top of your monthly?

  • Is there a way to get back in touch with the web chat agent you've been dealing with??

I managed to get the 5gb bonus added but just wanted to confirm

    • +1

Learn to take YES for an answer! ;)

  • Just tried the online chat twice to get the 5gb bonus but was told you must have multiple services, either two mobiles, foxtel or broadband. Could anyone confirm if they managed to get the 5gb without having multiple services and how they managed that?

    • Confirmed - I just upgraded from a byo plan.

I just asked the second sales person I got when going through the ordering process.

The order is still pending though so I am not getting my hopes up.

  • Hi everyone,

I don't have a friend/family working for Telstra. Sorry for the noob question, can someone please advise if there's anyway I can get this deal? I am lost!

Will check my private message box if necessary! ;)

    • I had the same question.
Just go thru the checkout process. It doesnt ask anything about knowing a telstra employee

      • -1

They might ask for proof later down the track,

        • Damn… i hope not :(

        • What have you got to lose for trying?
But what have you got to gain if it work out?

        • -1

          @Viper8:

You would be stuck in a 24-month contract with higher than expected monthly repayments.

        • @beckieQ:

I doubt it, I don't see how they can just alter a contract to how they see fit. All they would be able to do is void the contract (since we didn't sign up "legitimately"), which would be detrimental to Telstra considering you also have the phone. I couldn't even imagine then trying to pull that shit, and if they did it would just take a threat of taking it to the TIO (telecommunications Industry Ombudsman) for them to back off.

        • +1

          @beckieQ:
What? If you sign up for a specific deal how can they just go ahead and increase the repayments. The whole point of a contract is that the terms cannot be changed during the duration. They either honour it or they don't, they cant change it…

        • I took advantage of the last Telstra f&f deal ($90 25gb + pixel). No Telstra friends, they never asked for proof I knew anyone.

If questioned, I was planning to say Dave from the pub sent me the link.

  • Do i need to know someone at telstra to get the deal?
Tried asking online chat for the 5gb data and they asked if i know an employee

Edit- went thru the checkout. Didnt ask if i know an employee or anything

  • Thanks to the OP, great deal.

  • Can anyone PM me an employee number as I tried to get the offer and they said to provide it?

    • +1

Sign up online through the Telstra link, no where do you need to provide a name/number.

      • Thanks, yep that worked fine.

    • +1

They are advertising this on Facebook. No need to be an employee. Try someone else

  • Bummer, I was about to sign up, but the chat rep informed me that forwarded calls are charged for…. Unfortunately a deal breaker for me.

    • Thought it was unlimited calls, do they allow conferencing? Is the call forwarding charged for this plan only or other Telstra plans as well?

      • Not sure on other plans, this is what the rep said:

Beatriz: As per checking, it is ; Standard charge: 6c per 30 sec or part thereof
me: so even though it has unlimited calls, it still charges for a forwarded call?
Beatriz: Yes, as call forward is a different from standard calls applied

  • I just signed up calling 1800131002 and getting the extra 5gb!

  • Any extra charge for 1300 number with this plan?

    • +1

      Monthly Calls:
Unlimited. Your Monthly Calls can be used in Australia for calls to standard Australian numbers, as well as most 11xx, 12xx, 13xx and 1800 numbers.

  • Got S8 Orchid Grey. Nice deal. Only problem is no international calling. But u can get Skype.
Sale from cashrewards is tracked, hope I get $105 back. If I do, sweet as honey.

  • Damn forgot cash rewards :(

Signed up online and got live chat to wave the plan fee so just my handset payments. Such an awesome deal for $59. Previously paying $149 for an iPhone 7 plus and 20gb. Selling the iPhone for $700 and it's basically a free upgrade and saying $90/mo.

  • Can anyone confirm if the phone will be locked to Telstra ? I read somewhere on the comments the phone will be Telstra branded . Will that mean there will be a Telstra logo on it ? I plan on selling the phone

  • My 24 month optus plan will come to an end in 43 days, reckon it's worth going to optus and asking them to do better to keep a customer?

    • +2

In my experience, Optus couldn't care less about keeping customers but it's worth a shot

  • +1

Went into JB Greensborough (Vic), but they weren't sure of the deal…..rang HO and they told them it was legit. It was either 59 and a phone OR 49 with gift card. Decided to think about it, walked past Telstra shop and thought I'd asked what the John Dory was. 25 minutes later, I walked out with an S8, Telstra branded, but it's unlocked. $59pmth with 15GB plus bonus 5GB. Could not have been more helpful. Thanks for the heads up as my Virgin contract expired 3 days ago.

    • +1

How did you wrangle the extra 5gb?

      • I can't get them to do it - tried 3 live chat agents.
First agent told me I couldn't as the friends/family offer is discounted already.
Second told me the eligibility criteria is two or more services (I only want one).
Third agent said the same thing as the second.

I'm on NBN now so unfortunately don't have home phone or internet with Telstra.

    • They offered it to me. Already had home phone and internet so…..

    • What is a telstra branded s8 like compared to an unbranded one ? is the logo on it ?

      • Only appears on start up etc. Want to use it in the states next year and I was told there won't be an issue….just need to swap the sim over for a local one…will still have to pay for plan whilst over there, even though not using it :(

    • I wish companies like Telstra would educate their sales people. Every one you talk to gives a different story.

  • Now all I need is a decent case for it….the young fells's already had 2 Tech 21 wallet style cases fail on him, so he just scored an Evo to see how that goes.

    • *fella's

  • +1

Just walked out of Telstra Morley with a black s8. Also haggled an extra 5gb of data.

    Absolute steal.
