Just thought I'd add 2c in.

This is a great feature rich modem/router. I've been using it for over a year and it's hardly missed a beat. WiFi signal strength is awesome, lot's of settings to play with (if you want to) and it gets regular firmware updates to patch any potential security issues. If you need a solid modem/router go for it - at this price it's a no brainer.

  • i am alreayd running RT-68+ modem, wonder how much different this one would be in terms of performance. and how about ISP compatibility ?

ASUS DSL-AC68U is on the NBN Compliant list, according to Whirlpool forum.

check the link below to check if any modem you are after is NBN compliant.

I had this when I had ADSL, I still use this when I was forced to change to NBN, just plug into the ethernet port instead of telephone thats all

  • I saw this refurbished T-Mobile branded for 48 USD

    • Was that just a router though?

      • Yea it was only a router but let's be honest here. There are still a lot of people who do not know the difference between a router and modem.

        • They should learn.

    • $61 USD delivered. Router only so beneficial for those on FTTP NBN or can always buy a cheap modem to bridge.

  • Link doesn't seem to work anymore??

Edited: seems to work again now.

Might want to credit https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/343166 for the ASUS promotion.

  • I am using a trusty, but a very old modem/router (Billion BiPAC 7800N, to be specific, which I have been using for many years with no major issues), and I'll have to eventually move to NBN connection (I'm still on ADSL with TPG), so will this be great for my current ADSL connection?

  • FYI: Despite being on Whirlpool's NBN compliant list they also found that it requires quite a bit of fiddling to work with FTTN/VDSL connections.
    - Apparently it also differs from ISP-to-ISP.

As seen on their megathread: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2469269

Not sure whether ASUS have since updated the firmware to resolve the issue yet.

  • This or the TP-Link VR600? (Looking at VDSL and ADSL modems)

    • +1

Better go for this one if cost is not a major factor for you, I have VR600 and not happy with the wireless speeds. I am not sure whether its configuration part or the modem itself not performing well, though i don't have any issues but the speed difference is huge if i connect through the ethernet cable.

  • Many NBN plans include a modem. In that case, it may not be necessary to purchase one.

      Yeah but they're mostly trash.

I know Dodo is anyway from experience

  • In case this helps anyone out, i had trouble getting started with the asus. And reading all the trouble shooting online was confusing and didn't work for me. When i finally had a chance and called up aussiebroadband it was sorted in minutes.

    1. Download the newest firmware and update your asus.

    2. Go to the dual wan tab and set primary wan to your prefered port.

    3. Use the wan cable to connect nbn to the chosen wan port.

Download speed 11 Mbps. Upload speed 0.6 mbps
