These cameras are too good and easy to setup.

    • +1

Didn't need to flash custom ROM?

      • +1

Just drop in a MicroSD card.

        • +1

And don't forget to block outbound on your router.

        • +1

@mattyman: what does block outbound mean?

        • +1

          @Aussiejay:
          Yes.. why block outbound?

        • +1

          @joshuah:

You don't want it to open up your home to China Internet users.

      • Yeah, did that. It was ridiculously easy. As someone said below.

    Thanks Tautbumcheeks.

10 times better than DAFANG Sh*t

    • +2

you should call it the dabian then…

    • what's wrong with the dafang model? mine works great?

      • +2

        slow slow slow slow

only work under same wifi network

        • Odd, mine works fine on 4g. Actually connects better than this one. I have the FTTP and a mesh router though.

  • +1

Pinched another one. good on you mate

  • +1

    I don't need 5th one, I don't need 5…. bought one :(

    • +1

What do you do with them all?!

      • +3

I meant to setup them around the house but didn't have the chance to open them yet :P. Actually I needed 3, but with each good deal I keep thinking for new place for them.

  • +1

thx! another xmas pressie sorted (if it comes on time)… keep them coming.

Xiaomi mija 1080p is more smooth, it operates on either 2.4G or 5G WiFi frequency and it has WDR. I use that for my baby monitoring. In dark room you can see very clear without infrared.

  • +1

I assumed it's rechargeable. What's the running time before you have to recharge again?

    • +1

You have to connect it to a power source via usb

      • +1

Thanks. That kinda suck as I can't put it outdoor then if it needs to be connected to USB.

        • +1

You can power it via a power-bank and configure to only record when it detects motion.

        • +1

Always a way. And DC power is perfect.

        • +1

@Lorindor: I hadn't thought of using a powerbank. How long does a powerbank (at what capacity?) typically last for you?

        • +2

          @bloomer

I haven't done it as I read it on whirlpool, but if it's only recording movement I don't see it requiring a lot of power.

        • @Lorindor:

I've done it before with a 16000mAh one. It only lasted like 2 days or not even.

  • Do people have drop out issues using this + Fanghacks with Tinycam? I keep on getting blank screens every hour or two (especially at night) and have to reboot the device using the Fanghacks interface to get the image back… maybe it's my crappy router (or I got a dud)

    • +1

I don't, but I use the snapshot hack not the RTSP video stream.

      • +1

Any further info on the snapshot hack?

    • +2

I use Tinycam Pro with fanghacks/RTSP and all OK.. is the IP of the Fangwang changing? (My Bangshang is set to a static IP via a DHCP reservation)

ps: just noticed Tinycam Pro is 50% off for Black Friday, it might not fix your issue but you may want to upgrade anyway

      • +1

Thanks for the suggestion, I do have Tinycam Pro from Amazon Appstore (maybe that's my problem lol) from eons ago.

Also have static ip on the X.Fangs with DHCP reservation… so it is quite strange (house isn't that big either)

    • The default fanghack settings makes the RTSP server hang and crash, someone posted an updated file on the fanghack github which has it running stable for me now but in slightly lower (default) quality.

  • +1

Thanks, Already got 2 delivered …

  • +1

What do I need to set this up? Does it need power or do i need to connect it to anything?

    • +1

From what I can tell it only comes with a USB power cable, meaning you'd have to power it off something with a powered USB port or a Powerbank. I could be wrong though.

      • +1

It has a micro USB power cable and a wall->usb adaptor (although with USA prongs). Not sure if Gearbest provides the AU->US power plug adaptor

  • +1

    thanks. giving it a go

    Hi TA
Is there a rep monitoring this?

I have issues with 1 unit (always connecting)
2nd older unit one still works.

3 unit at a different site work like a charm too.
Contacted their CS came back with usual troubleshooting generic response - which I already have done - no joy.

thought will get a proper response on ozb channel.

    • +1

Mind worked fine for the first 3 months, from then, I've only had issues I cannot connect to it or where it sits loading, or it would be offline.

I have done the reset and remove SD card and format etc. without any luck fixing it.

The Xiaoyis I bought 2 years ago still going strong and is much clearer than the Xiaofang.

  • +2

    The code haha

  • +1

Cheers TA got one to go with the existing Xiaomi collection.

Seems like the new 5.0 Mi App does not work well with S8.

Everything went to shit after app upgrade via app prompt.

Uninstalled app and reinstalled from Playstore. Unfortunately older app is no longer available from Playstore now either.

    • +1

I had no problem with 5.x on S8

  • +2

Just a heads up … these cameras are good value for what you pay for them, but don't expect to be able to read a license plate on a moving car like a $100USD+ HikVision camera

IR range is pretty poor, HDR non existent (zero details in shadows or blown whites). Work well in controlled lighting (ie inside) watching people etc

I would question if they truly are 1080P (and not upscaled)

    • +6

I think most people use them to see if their dog/cat hasn't killed themselves or the couch.

      • +2

        Or shat in the bath

  • +1

    Thanks OP!

  • +1

No need but bought it anyway.

  • +1

I could never get mine past the ding ding noise!

    • +1

      Try a different sd card

      • +1

        Thanks; I will try that

      • I have setup without SD card. Seems like issue with reading QR Code. Move camera back and forth towards phone slowly.

  • +1

got five already resisting on this one very good cameras
one in lounge, kitchen, garage, one covering the letterbox through the window
last one covering the rest of the yard out front

    • +1

Please excuse my dumb question, but I've never quite figured these out…

Do they record in the camera, or to the cloud, or do you just watch remotely?

If the bad guys kill your power or phone before breaking in are they useless?

  • +1

I have the Xiaomi vacuum, Yeelight and pen. Do I need this?

    • +7

Yes, you have to make sure the vacuum is doing it's job and also turn the light on to make sure no one steals your pen

      • +1

        Found a reason. Thanks!

        • +1

Either that, or get a Xiaomi powerbank and mount it to top of robot :)

  • +1

    FANGARSE

  • +1

So when you get a deal for a shovel or a post hole digger, will the coupon code be ARSEHOLE ?

  • +1

What do people use these for?

    • Use number 36 - Motion detection instant alert via app and 15sec video.

  • +2

I'm buying one so I can become an arse spy.

  • +1

Hmm, now what security uses can I put this to.

  • +2

To think that Apple can't put a $10 1080p camera on their entire Mac range after a decade, luckily the US $5000 iMac Pro will receive one, Australian price would be about $7500-$8000. Hilarious!!

  • +1

Damn it, have resisted buying one of these so many times. Popped my XiaoFang cherry tonight…

  • +1

Thank you ozbargain, I just order one. :)

  • +2

    Expired :-(

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Got one:-)

  • +1

Can POI be used to connect this?

    • POI?

    • POE - power over ethernet, sorry

      • no

  • +1

    Code has expired…

  • +1

Sold out so quick? The code has expired!

  • +2

apparently someone bought the licensing of this product and made an improved product called the wyzecam, currently it only ships in the US

  • boo, expired already

    • did you say boo or boo urns?

  • i'm going to get one of these, tell people i'm rich, tell them my address and just wait, i'm going to have a lot of fun with this

    • Hopefully they don't cut your power rendering this camera useless. That'd be fun

      • +1

I also have a fetish for the dark whilst being robbed

  • I still haven't received mine from the October deal, is that normal or is it MIA?

    • Seems normal if you use the free shipping option. Mine normally takes around 2 months or so.

  • Have fun not getting this thing set up

  • How to fix "Couldn't read SD card" formatting error.

    Bought one of these -
Problem = Would not record because SD Card not recognized.
Solution = format must be FAT32 with Allocation Unit size = 32k.

Allocation Unit size = 32k. ##### THIS IS IMPORTANT!!!

See how to do …. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6alrn5VQ5kQ

  • +2

any chance we can get any more units opened up?

  • Did anyone get this setup? I got this one after Christmas; however it says it only can be used in China. Is it region locked?

    • You need to select China/mainland as location for setup.

      • Yes, I did. I selected Mainland on Locale and set it up; however it shows "This product is only used in mainland China" when I click the device on Mi Home.
