This is a 12 month contract, minimum cost is $468, unlimited national talk and text. All support must be handled online (hence the 'x' in the plan title).

Update: Back again (thanks supert1ght)

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2017

FYI if not interested in being a "Telstra customer" with added benefits of that,

Telechoice offer 12gb on the Telstra network for $38
    inc 200 International minutes

    https://www.telechoice.com.au/sim-plans/list/category/12-mon…

Also 10GB/100 international minutes on 30 day contract.

    • +5

"TeleChoice uses parts of the Telstra 4G and 3G networks."

Meaning you will get almost zero coverage outside of the major cities (ok, you might get some 3G). So it's ok if you live in a major city, but if you plan on doing any country driving and want reception then Telstra is the only way to go!

      Perth to Geraldton comparison:

      • Oh wow - very interesting!
I had no idea it was such a big difference.
I guess most city dwellers wouldn't notice, but it's good to know this.

  • +12

People (including myself) have been managing to negotiate the Mx for $39 with extra 5GB taking it to a 15GB total.

    • Any hints?

      • +3

I went on webchat, told them I was porting from another telco ($10 port in discount), then asked for a bonus (they offered the extra 5gb). I managed to get a store to honour the webchat offer by taking a screenshot.

      • "Hi I came here because my friend said he got yada yada, if you give me yada yada I'll switch."

        • ^ Exactly. I got $39 a month for 20gb because of this.

        • @SpotTheOzzie:

How you get 20gb for 39$?

        • +1

@edBARGAIN: I got 20GB for $39 as well (recontract). I talked nicely to the Telstra customer support person, had him agreed to add 5GB bonus. He seemed happy when I asked him to provide the link so I could provide positive feedback for him (the feedback link will be there when you end the chat anyway) so he went on and added another 5GB bonus, win-win
          :)

          @overlord:

Manners/Politeness finally paying off in 2017 cheahu!!

      • Probably just say: "Optus has 15GB for $40, can you match that?"

Saying that, the website indicates $49…?

      • +2

I just went on live chat and was as friendly as possible in mentioning that my friend got a deal and I was hoping to get the same if I recontract. (Others have managed to get it from porting in too).

They asked which deal so I said Mx with $10 discount and bonus 5GB. After they went to check with the supervisor, they said ok no problems.

Some of the chat operators are more willing than others, so just keep trying and if you don't get lucky just say "OK I'll have to think about it" instead of arguing with them. Then move on to the next person.

You can check some of the success stories and other discounts people were offered.

      • I got it on my plan a few weeks ago. It’s a pop up on the actual webpage so just turn off the Adblock and it should come up with the offer of the bonus 5 gb talk to the chat peons and you should be getting it.

      • I used the optus $40 plan with 15gb to convince them fairly easily to give me the Mx for $39 and 15gb of data

    • +2

Actually it’s on their website now. Basically says ask for an extra 5GB when you sign up online.

    • +3

Just tried it now. They basically told me the $39 is for signing up online only, but if I want to sign up via web chat it'll be $49. Then was told the 5gb bonus was for existing customers only signing up to a new phone. So asked them if I port over from Optus will I still get the $10 off. Yes, making the $49 plan $39. And I asked if they could please please please see what they can do for me to sign this 12 month contract. Asked the supervisor and was approved the bonus 5gb. :)

      • I didn’t bother asking for the extra 5GB as I thought 10GB would be more than enough. Then a few weeks later on I wondered if it would still be enough for me in 12 months time.
I asked the ACCOUNTS web chat and they added it no questions asked. They didn’t even try to do the stupid “this is a special once off only for you, don’t tell anyone” crap.

      • +1

        thanks for the tip.
just tried it and got the extra 5gb. so 15gb for 39 B)

  • +8

Can't help but think the JB offer is much better.

  • +1

$35/month for 8GB on Aldi. No lock-in in contract. Uses Telstra Wholesale. A comparable deal.

    • +4

You do realise that you don't get the full telstra network. Only 3rd party that has the full coverage as telstra is boost.

      • +4

While this is true, for most users access to the wholesale network is sufficient. I think it's worthwhile stating that there's other offers out there in the same price bracket that are likely suitable for users who aren't keen on 12 month contracts. ALDI also do unused data roll-over which I find really good.

For any others interested in ALDImobile, I just did a speedtest on my (ALDImobile) service (Perth CBD area), 102 Mbps down, 55 Mbps up. That's faster than my 100/40 FTTP at home for crying out loud. Yeah I know, probably a low congestion period, but still…

        • I never knew 4G can go that fast. I'm on the Aldi $35 month plan too~~

      • How do you know? I can’t see anywhere on the Boost site it says that. Only 3G and 4G. Woolies has 4G, but use the convenient phrase ‘parts of Telstra’s network’

      • +1

        I know. That's why I stated it.
        Telstra Retail map
        Telstra Wholesale map

    • +3

Given how easy it has been for most (including myself) to negotiate to get 15GB for $39, I'd rather pay the extra $4 a month for almost double the data and full Telstra coverage.

  • +6

Where does it say $39 ? Link shows $49.
How long is it available for, longer than today?

    • It's a javascript redirect so try multiple browsers and one will work. I had trouble getting redirect in Firefox and then it worked on mobile in Safari and on computer in Chrome. You know it's not working if you don't see the black "Black Friday" page after clicking the "Find out more" button.

      • Thanks , on safari in IOS so I'll try my computer later.
        Is it only today?

    • +2

See if you can see the banner on this page.
      https://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans-and-rates#--g…

      • That works…thanks
        Only for new customers
        Any luck re-contracting?

  • +5

Isn't the jb HiFi deal better in the end?

$49, 20gb with $200 gift card is around $32 per month after taking it the gift card value

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342509

    • +1

Very much jbhifi is better but I prefer Optus deal below, as I don't need jbhifi gift cards. I can sell it but value will be reduced.
      BTW,
I'm paying $29 for just 5.5gb with telechoice. Very sad.

  • +1

Optus 15gb for $30 one year contract also not bad.

  • +1

I am not sure about how much less coverage is with wholesaler network but the other advantage with Telstra over Telstra wholesalers is you get free NRL/AFL live account and unmetered data for that. And cheap movie tickets.

  • +1

    This is dodgy..

I click the link and then add all my details and get to the end and it says

    $49 plan for $588.

Its like its not adding the discount at the end

    • Use the live chat link. I got the 15GB $39 deal a few weeks ago after seeing it discussed on whirlpool. They should be aware of the Black Friday deal and will probably do the deal anyway. Porting in provides a $10 credit or if you are an existing customer with more than one service, ask for $10 multi service credit. The 5GB bonus is a loyalty offer but most people have been getting it.

      • I have 5 services (paying $400 a month) with them and trying to migrate my wifes telstra pre-paid
over this is the offer i get

$39 BYO Small plan 12 month contract has 2GB, $550 worth of standard calls and unlimited standard
SMS If you will sign up today I can add 5GB bonus data.

Needless to say i did not take it up..

My issue is its pre-piad and thats already considered telstra.. i don't really want to stuff around porting out and then back in..

  • I signed up to the Telstra $49/month 10gb offer in September. Any chance they will change my contract over to this one?

    • Exactly what I did too but got +5Gb bonus
      Still, $39 better than $49/month
I went into chat 24/7 and couldn’t recontract

      • i get same $49 link

        • Don’t need a link. All done politely and efficiently thru 24/7 app chat

    • Go to 24/7 > Mobile on a Plan > Bill, Plans, Addons

Then nicely ask for recontract. They will do 15Gb for $39/month and no exit charges.
Just worked for me in same plan and same amount of time remaining in contract. Operator to quote as below.

  • +2

Was a prepaid user. Had an online chat with Telstra and asked if I can have $39/month with 15G as one of my friends had the deal. Almost no hassle and signed up.

    • Was that related to this black friday deal?

      • Not related to this black Friday deal. Sorry I forgot to mention it was a couple of weeks back when I read some else's post and then gave that a try.

    • Just tried. No luck. :(

      https://postimg.org/image/6xt6eqt5n/

      • Me too, they wouldn't accept a prepaid number.

  • Just had a chat with telstra 24/7 chat. Had a nice guy port both current Telstra plans $60/month over to $39 a month with 15gb and unlimited calls/texts (10gb, and if we go over it'll add 5gb automatically)

    Very easy to do

The guy's name was VIKRAM incase anyone wants to jump on :)

    • Any penalty ?

      • None for me… 10 months remaining on plan

  • 15GB, $39 for me too. Telstra must've stepped up their customer service. Thanks OP.

  • I can second that, $39pm for 15GB 12 month byo contract via chat

  • Thanks OP missus just got the $39 but only 10gb despite asking about the extra 5gb they said no doesn’t apply, she was already with Telstra though upgrading from 1gb so 10 will do!

  • I just went through 3 different departments on live chat till I got to the mobile services and billing team who were able to give me 20gb for $49 with an apple music sub. I was currently on a telstra post paid mobile plan that expired last week. I told them their plans were uncompetitive and I had a friend who had gotten 15gb at $39 and that JB-HI-Fi was offering a great deal for new customers. Best of luck

    • +1

I just went on online chat and said a friend had a deal for 20gig a month at $39 and 15 minutes later all signed up! Included Apple Music for 6 months as well. Very happy indeed, thanks to this page I have just what I need, being out in the country I can’t use any other provider and Telstra has always been so expensive!

      • +1

Maybe upvote this deal to show support for OP?

    • Had the same result, so finally decided to port out to Jeenee for a month or two at $35 + $10 startup. Will try port back in when they offer something good. About 10 years on telstra before this.

  • got the 15gb for $39/month - with a guy called madhuri. All very easy. Cheers

    • Same. Assuming they come through and actually add it to the account.
Thanks OP and all who contributed.

    • Same operator. Same deal. Very nice rep - gave him 5 Stars

  • has this gone back up to $49? the telstra chat person said u have to fill out application online but then it still says $49 at point of place order

  • Just to be sure, have people been able to get the 15GB/$39 when porting to Telstra from another provider? I have been told a couple of times by the web chat that the +5GB is only a loyalty bonus for having more than 1 Telstra service

    • That’s what I was just told too

    • I’m an existing customer and I was able to attain the 15GB $39 plan. Can’t speak for new customers. Strange as most telecoms are inclined to give the more attractive offers to new customers

  • +1

They wouldn't do that for me. Not even 12gb data last time on $50. So I ported to Optus $30 bux pm with 17gb data.

  • Is this for a month, or 28 days as Boost does now?

    • Month

      • Thank you.

  • I just got 15gb for $39 without even trying by chatting with billing.
    Previously on this deal:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/217715
Then uncontracted for the last 12 months.
The agent was very helpful and friendly and took care of everything.

You are now chatting with Bonnelynda.

    Bonnelynda at 8:14, Nov 26:
Sorry for the wait. My name is Bonnie, how can I help?

    me at 8:15, Nov 26:
Hi, I'm wanting to port in on the Black Friday sale … $39/month Mx SIM Only plan. My friend said he got an extra 5Gb data. Can you do the same deal for me?

    Bonnelynda at 8:15, Nov 26:
Thanks for the interest on the other hand, the 5GB bonus data offer is only available to multi product holders which means more than 1 service on the account.

If you have multiple services, then yes you can get 5GB bonus data. Also, I want to set your expectations that the offer is for new customers as of the moment. We are currently gathering the number of existing customers who are also in demand of this offer so we can come up with better offers for people like you in more coming months.

    me at 8:16, Nov 26:
    I am a new customer.

    Bonnelynda at 8:17, Nov 26:
    I see.

If you don't have any other services then you won't be eligible for the bonus 5GB data allowance, apologies.

    me at 8:18, Nov 26:
would you please confer with your supervisor? my friend didn't have multiple services, and was still offered bonus data on signup.

    Bonnelynda at 8:19, Nov 26:
    Yes.

We already received rampant chats about this and we will stand firm that this is not available to all customers. This is only for multi product holders.

We need to follow our business rules/

    Bonnelynda at 8:20, Nov 26:
Again, this offer is not available for ALL CUSTOMERS. Only MULTI PRODUCT HOLDERS.

    me at 8:21, Nov 26:
    wow, no need to yell.

    Bonnelynda at 8:21, Nov 26:
I am not yelling, just making an emphasis.

  • Clarity update: I am porting in from Optus. Not already on Telstra.

As at 11:15AM AEDST 26/11, I hopped on online chat and was offered the 5GB bonus. I am SO happy to get 15GB (hell, even 10GB would have been amazing for $39) on the beautifully covered FULL Telstra network. I've spent the last few weeks looking at Aldi and Woolies mobile, but I've heard crappy stories about Aldi system errors.

It seems like whether or not you get the 5GB bonus just depends on the agent you get. No one on this thread is "right" or "wrong", some agents just must have different managers or something who have briefed their staff in different ways.

My transcript is below. I have edited out the agent's name just in case they made a mistake giving me the discount. I wouldn't want them to get in trouble! Call centre jobs are hard!

    Peace out, and good luck.

    Agent at 11:07, Nov 26:

    Agent at 11:09, Nov 26:
In which you will get 10 Gb data and unlimited calls and text in $49 per month.
    Me at 11:09, Nov 26:
yes that's the one . i have filled in most of the sign up form, and am about to press submit but wanted to make sure i can still get the discount.
    Agent at 11:10, Nov 26:
if you place the order and pass me the order number then you will get $10 discount with 5 Gb extra bonus data.

  • I’m an existing Telstra customer and have tried twice now on web chat if they would honor the deal as an existing customer and both said no. One was that Bonnie and the other was Ma Louisa.

    • i got Ma Louisa.

this is all she offered me.pfft..

$39 BYO Small plan 12 month contract has 2GB, $550 worth of standard calls and unlimited standard
SMS If you will sign up today I can add 5GB bonus data.

I also left -ve chat feedback. They always ask for that..

  • I tried on chat and called up a store to match the Optus deal.
    No dice.
    Looks like Optus for me.

  • Could not have been easier to get the bonus 5gb

    Analyn:
Hello, ME. A lovely day to you. You can call me Annie.☺

    Analyn:
    How can I help you?

ME: optus have a $30 plan with 15gb and unlimited talk / text (https://offer.optus.com.au/simsational-savings) Does telstra have a similar plan
    Analyn:
What we have here is the $39 with 10GB plus 5GB bonus mobile data.
    UNLIMITED national talk & text
Unlimited Wi-Fi data at Telstra Air® hotspots in Australia
International roaming - day pass available

  • So if I go into the store to sign up to the $39 black Friday deal and ask for the extra 5gb will they do it?

  • I am having no luck at all trying to get this deal. I am an existing Telstra mobile customer (off contract) and have now made 4 attempts via web chat to get this deal. No-one I speak to is even aware of the deal and then when I inform them, they tell me that the deal is for new customers only. The deal they tell me for existing customers is $49p/m for 10GB. After some persistence and mentioning the Optus deal, the best they would do for me is $49p/m & 15GB data, which I did not accept. I guess I will have to try again. Any ideas on when this deal expires?

    • +1

On 5th attempt, I finally got the $39/15GB deal. Not easy.

      • I got this deal for two mobiles on the one account so now I have discovered that I have 30GB shared data across both phones :)

        • Perseverance!

  • You can get this deal without black friday deals. Speaking to the online chat on the website, I was able to score 5gb extra and $10 off. So $39 for 15gb with Telstra is pretttty good.

  • +1

I ported my number to Telstra by signing up with JB to get $200 gift card last Monday.(https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/342509)

Then move to this $39 pm deal today (with 5GB less data)

So it is ~$22.3/month with 15GB data(when taking $200 gift card into account)

    • $49 => $39 plan is considered a downgrade, did they charge you a fee to do it?

    • Exactly what i tried to do but they wouldn't downgrade my plan, any tips?

    • I used online chat that popup automatically on online order page.

I just asked them if I can switch to Black Friday package + 5GB bonus without early termination fee.
They checked my current package and said Yes.

then I finish online application and give them the order number.

  • +1

I’m an existing Telstra customer about 6 weeks before contract is up and jumped in webchat and asked for $39 Black Friday MX deal with 15gb and unlimited calls and texts and 30 mins all signed up. They tried to charge me $28 early termination fee which I said no to and I’ll just move, and funnily enough it got waived.

  • +1

Upgraded from off contract plan to 15gb/$39/m easily, followed above link, soon after get an add to ask about bonus 5gb, asked about black friday + bonus on web chat, sent me a link to sign up, gave chat lady order no so she could add 5gb bonus + saved transcript in case of hiccups on her advice, said will update in 24-48hrs but took less than 1 , btw this is for wife , i just switched to optus so neutral on telco's

  • I'm currently using Boost, is it worth changing?
