Never got the refund last time - emailed them a few times… nothing :(

    • +4

Sorry to hear. I recently did 3 bookings and received all 3 cash backs using 3 different accounts. Accounts were in different names but credit card was the same on 2 of them.

      • +1

Different account means different names too or different email address but the same name?

        • Can you try with same name and get back to me if it works? ;)

I used different names of family members.

Don't see why it wouldn't work with same name as long as email address is different. I would make sure phone number is different as well.

    • +4

I received mine to. Poor customer service by not replying though.

    • +2

Didn't get it on my 3 different accounts last time either :(. How long did it usually take for people to get it?

      • +3

I've been emailing them chasing up my refund for a stay in late October

      • Cashback is usually paid within a week after your hotel stay if you have the credit card details saved in your account.

      • +4

I've been calling Booking.com since coming back from holidays in October. I've done everything they required, still no cash back!! It's a big scam!!! People would be better off using Expedia which has better customer service.

    • +1

Same here…two booking in October and November…Nothing so far.

    • +1

I called them today about a booking in November. Had to wait about 15 mins to get in touch and 40 mins to solve the problem.

The problem was that it clearly stated I was getting my cashback on confirmation email but did not get any update on it. One email response stated that I spent an amount below a limit to qualify for cashback.

Apparently, it's passed onto the credit team for the cashback to be paid back but I will see what happens.

Agree that the customer service is generally horrible, specially when emailing them.

    • Have you guys logged in and prompted the withdrawal of the reward? It's not automatic. From memory I had to log in, go to the rewards section and nominate the card I wanted to receive the refund to, got it a few business days after that.

  • Where is the link?

  • +1

God dammit I just booked few days ago

    • +1

      Free cancellation ?

Just cancel and do it again.

      • No one of those no refund deals oh well

        • +4

If you call up the hotel and if they agree to cancel your booking without any penalty by making an exception, Booking.com will have no problem cancelling your booking without any penalty. You have to tell Booking.com that you have already spoken to someone at the hotel (take their name) and they should cancel the booking. Make sure to call both hotel and Booking.com around the same time to make sure that the same person at the hotel is working. Usually, when you call Booking.com, they may put you on hold and check with the hotel staff to make sure you are saying the truth

Give it a try and hopefully it works

        • @tendliya: Oh.. I just booked on Saturday through Agoda. and I just spoke with the customer service and they said they can only give me a refund in the form of a gift card… how can I ask for an exception?

        • @sugardumpling: Not sure how to go about it mate. May be try calling again to speak to a different agent. But since you have already made the payment through Agoda, there is not probably not too much that can be done.

        • @tendliya: I managed to get my agoda booking cancel! woo thanks guys

    • I booked just two days ago as well with Mystays in Japan via booking.com. Their cancellation fee is zero up until the 3rd of December for me, however does anyone know if I were to cancel, how long it would take for the site to update so that the same time slot becomes available? I don't want to anxiously sit here waiting for it to be updated as available again and trying to nab the same reservation with the risk of someone else beating me to it. When I booked there was only a single booking left available for my particular time period and number of people.

      • +2

Depends on few different factors. Most of the hotels these days use a channel manager which means the bookings drop in or cancel in the reservation system of the hotels and updates the availability on all the third party websites that the hotel listed themselves on. But definitely not all of them use a channel manager. Once you cancel the booking through Booking.com, the hotel usually receives the cancellation email within minutes. If the hotel is not using an integrated channel manager, they will action this cancellation when they get a chance.

Make sure to double check the availability now before you cancel the booking. Also, check the current rates.

Hotels can also stop sell the availability on all the third party websites when they are very busy to avoid overbookings and also to get more direct bookings.

        • Thank you very much for your reply. I managed to cancel and rebook it, saved an immense amount of money alongside cashrewards and the cashback promotion.

  • How is the cash back paid?

    • To your nominated credit card. You can add the card to your booking.com account.

    • +1

      If it is paid.

  • +2

    Note:

Participants may only receive Incentive Bonuses from a maximum of 3 different campaigns per year, including Refer-a-Friend campaigns.

  • Is there any other cheaper way to book hotels (estimated around $3000 spending on accommodations)?

    • Expedia mastercard 12% off. Use code MASTERAU12

    • +1

Make 3 seperate bookings each for 1/3 the length of the stay on 3 seperate accounts with different cc numbers. So that's 120usd cash back.

    • Check with cheaptickets 18% off. In USD but you should still come out ahead of the Expedia 12%. YMMV.

      • I am trying to book for Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong. It is 100 floors above the sea with harbor view - i believe it will be amazing. The problem is all web site refuse to offer any discount for this particular hotel. I have been trying lots of codes for a week now.

        • Unfortunately, I don't think you can get any discount from online travel agents for this hotel (or this hotel group) as most of the (online) travel agencies have to agree not to deduct their commission for discount in order to work with them.

        • +1

For Ritz Carlton Hong Kong you would be better of booking through either a Virtuso member for the following perks-

          For 2017:
Upgrade on arrival, subject to availability
Daily Buffet breakfast, for up to two in room guests
$100 USD Equivalent Food & Beverage credit, to be utilized during stay (not combinable, not valid on room rate, no cash value if not redeemed in full)
Early check-in/late check-out, subject to availability
          Complimentary Wi-Fi

Or book through a Ritz Carlton STARS member for the following-

Book a Deluxe Victoria Harbour Room or above at BAR (best available flexible rate) for 3 consecutive nights and receive the 3rd night complimentary

Stay Dates: Book by August 31, 2017 for travel by December 29, 2017. Blackout dates: 10/1/17, 12/24/17, 12/25/17

And also receive the following benefits-

          Ritz-Carlton STARS Benefits
Guaranteed 4pm late check-out, when requested at time of booking
          Complimentary Internet
          Personalized welcome amenity or service
          Daily continental breakfast for two
No walk policy (in sold out situations, a Ritz-Carlton STARS guest will always stay at the Ritz-Carlton and will never be moved to another hotel)
Ability to reserve Ritz-Carlton Rewards / Marriott Rewards member rates (although note some of the offers below require booking at BAR)

If you have an Amex Platnium Charge card you get the following-

          4th Night Free
Free breakfast daily for two people
          Guaranteed 4pm checkout
Room upgrade on arrival, if available
          Noon Checkin, if available
          In-room WiFi (some exclusions apply)
$100 Spa Services Credit to be used during your stay

You can’t combine benefits between Virtuso and STARS and Amex FHR.

          Hope this helps you.

  • Do i have to pay in full today to get the discount?

    • +1

No, you can pay for your stay at the hotel if that is a payment option. That's what I did and I received cashback on all 3 occasions.

      • Thanks mate! Just saved me $80USD for my trip to San Sebastian!

      • Only three occasions? Is that the cap?

        • 3 promotions per year but only 1 time for each promotion (e.g. $40 back on $80, $40 back on $200, etc.)

        • @neil:

          Those sly shits.

      • What are those 3 promotions may I know? I've used the current 2: $40 for $80 spent & $40 for $200, is there another one out there or upcoming? Thanks

  • Was going to use and checked against a few booking I have coming up.. funnily enough prices for multiple same places I have locked in are now $50 aud more $$$$.

Seems like the old create a promotion but raise prices to negate the promo.

    Buggas

    • I noticed this too.

    • +1

Was fine for the one hotel I was looking at, i guess win some lose some.

    • +1

matt's right, i noticed this too, some of the prices are higher and i did some comparison with expedia/agoda etc and the prices do vary.

anyone has any idea how long it takes for the price match process to take place?

  • -1

Looking to book for Europe trip in August next year. Do you have to complete your stay by a certain date, if anyone knows?

  • Very poor customer service. Everything was going to plan after the first hotel I stayed at to claim one of these and then the money never came. They emailed me back (after a huge wait) and asked me, oddly, for a receipt… From their own website? Then I got another email saying the last rep "was wrong to ask for a receipt" and they'd process it, but only after my stay at a newer, separate/unrelated booking. Buying time I guess.

    • +5

Surprised they didn’t ask you to restart your computer.

  • -2

Rates on this website for dates I was looking are at least $50-$60 more than many other websites. Make sure you check other websites before falling for the $40 'cashback'

    • +1

They do price match though, it just takes a while for it all to be sorted. I had them match Agoda and saved $50 AUD and also received the $40 USD cashback.

      • +1

did you match before or after the booking? what was the process?

        • I matched after the booking (before payment), I found it cheaper elsewhere and on the manage booking page there is a price match link where you fill in the information and provide a link to the cheaper deal.
They never actually got back to me, I had to email them to chase it up the day before my stay and they said it was okay and after my stay I had to provide a picture of my receipt from the hotel, after paying full price, and they refunded me a couple of weeks later.

  • +1

Damn gotta cancel my booking to rebook.

    • Are you able to rebook the same dates/times straight away? I did my booking a few weeks back.

      • +1

Yeah.. managed to reboot. And got the message saying I was participating in the 40$ USD cash back offer which equates to around 30% off for me. But first I checked if there was availability, which there was. I cancelled before I re-booked, as being a first time user of booking.com, I was unsure if I could tell the two bookings apart which you can easily via the confirmation number.

Still have a good 22 days till make changes if I find a better deal, lol.

  • You will find the refund service is better if you claimed a price-match from booking.
I was refused because other website have a more flexible policy(other is free cancellation while booking is non-refundable).

  • I just booked with no free cancellation option so my credit card was charged right away. Do you get cashback after your stay or when you make the payment?

    • after stay.

      • thanks - got an email confirmation of $40 reward

  • For those thinking to take advantage of this (or those who are wondering why they didn't receive their cashback in the past), better read their Terms and Conditions. Just like Cashrewards, it seems that if you leave the site before you finalize your booking it will void your claim (or something along that line. Just read it quickly). Also, American Express card is excempted from this offer. Interesting!

    • wtf, had no idea about the american express

      • Under the 'Incentive bonus' heading, there's a paragraph that has this in it:

The stay of the Participant as part of the Eligible Reservation is confirmed by the booked accommodation to Booking.com; and to obtain the reward as a credit to their credit card, the Participant has, within a reasonable time after the stay, either created a user account and saved a valid credit card in the account settings or provided a valid credit card on the provided digital form. American Express is not currently an accepted credit card.

Unless there are multiple ways of receiving the reward, if one has an American Express card then they're likely out of luck (but people have many credit cards these days, so I don't think that will be a major issue for a lot of people anyway).

  • Can we get 4% cashback via Cashrewards on top of the USD40?

    • +2

No. Stated on CR under merchant special terms…

Use of any Booking.com refer-a-friend or incentive offers/links will invalidate any cashback and/or any cashback claims, including our cashback guarantee.

  • do you have to book in USD, or can you pay in AUD equivalent through the website?

    • You pay in the currency of the hotel. In Australia, you pay in AUD. Cash back will be in USD though.

  • Let say I booked a hotel using the old link that is now expired, i want to cancel that booking and rebook another hotel (found a better one). Does anyone know if I can use this link and get the cashback?

  • Sorry OP, is the cashback from bookings.com or from cashrewards?

I didn't see the deal on their front page. Is there any terms and conditions page?

    Thanks.

    • Neither. Booking.com.

OP has linked the T&C's. Have a look at the previous deals.

      • Thanks Neil. But I could not found the "Incentive Link" mentioned in the T&C's page. do you know where should I look for it?

        Thanks

        • Not sure what you mean. The incentive link is the link in this deal when you click Go to Deal or click on the thumbnail.

  • i just paid $12 more than expedia… how long does it take for them to reply to price match

  • I made a booking a few weeks ago at a hotel that has free cancellation. If I cancel my booking right now, would I be able to book the same date/times straight away? Thanks.

    • +1

Make sure to check that you are cancelling before the free cancellation date. Otherwise, the hotel will have the right to charge your credit card as per their cancellation policy even though they may not have charged you yet.

Make sure to check the current rates. If they have gone up by a bit, then your reservation with the old rates might still be worth keeping.

But once you cancel it free of charge, I don't see a reason why you cannot book it straightaway to be eligible for this cashback.

    • +1

If the hotel is full it will take a little time for the room to become available on their system so it is a little risky if you had your heart set on that place.

      • Thanks guys, I think I'll keep my current booking. Don't want to risk price spike. I'll keep watching ozbargain for next hotel booking :))

        • If the hotel isn't full and its still offering free cancellation, you could book it now to be able to get this deal, then cancel the original booking straight after, so you know you definitely have a booking..

  • I did this last time I went away and got about 10 cash backs 😀

    • 10 ?

      • 10 different accounts of course :)

        • And a fake mustache/beard and wigs ?
Would be fun to check out, change appearance, check back in with an accent and new persona :)

  • Is it a cashback or Incentive Bonus? I just read T&C, it only referred as Incentive Bonus, which is a credit to your booking.com acc, and need to be used in 12 months..

    • +1

Booking.com puts a $40 credit directly to your credit/debit card. If you don't have the card in the system, they'll nag you to put one in there to claim your "cash back" so I guess they'll do that for 12 months unclaimed. Wife's account for some reason didn't have the card saved in there but once we put it in the cash back came through.

Incentive Bonus = Cash Back = A Credit to your Card

  • How long is this "cash back" offer available for?

    • I missed out on the last one so better to book it sooner than later

    • There is no advertised expiry. It could expire tomorrow or in 4 weeks' time, nobody knows.

At the moment there seems to be a new 'spend $80, receive $40 cashback' promotion released every month or so.

  • Hi, I got a question. Can u get the referral bonus and USD40 cashback in 1 hotel booking? If yes, could you please explain me how. Thank you. :)

  • Can I make two separate bookings to go over 80USD

  • If I refer my friend, friend signs up, will they get this cashback?

edit: no, as when i click thru from a referral link i cant see the pay 80, get 40 banner

  • Excellent deal. I already used one of this in my booking account. I guess it won't stop people creating multiple accounts to take advantage of this offer.

  • what is people experience with the price match process? should i just book and then price match or PM first then book?

    • The price match process is on their homepage:

Just remember to contact us after booking with us and at least 24 hours before your check-in date. You'll need to provide us with the link to the other offer and it must be online and available when we check.

So book with the cash back, then contact them for a price match.

  • I dont have a credit card (and cannot get a credit card due to being poor and a student) .
I have several mastercard-debit cards. Can anyone please comfirm if I will still be able to use this deal ?
And will I still be able to have credit from referals (put into my mastercard debit card) ?
    Thanks

    • +1

Don't see a reason why it will not work with a debit Mastercard as long your card have the capability to receive a credit when the cashback is processed

    • +2

Yes debit MC should be fine
