    • No international calls either. :(.

  • +2

Great deal, so glad I switched a few months ago. No issues with the Vodafone network like I expected either

    • I'm having massive issues in the city where Optus and Helstra have good reception. My phones also draining battery faster due to the constant searching of the network.

If you're going to work by train, better to use Optus, much better reception when I was with them before switching over.

      • +1

I haven't had Telstra before, too expensive haha. But I find Kogan better than Optus where I go. I used to find so many black spots on Optus, especially between Burwood and Redfern stations.

        • +1

i get this too with Virgin mobile (uses optus i think)
between sydenham & redfern is a deadzone :(

        • +1

@Jonski: for me between sydenham and kingsgrove/bexley, dead - (optus telstra and voda, the same)

  • I'm tempted but not sure about network coverage. What is the Vodafone network like in regional areas? I am with Telechoice who are on the Telstra network and get good coverage.

    • +3

Buy the $4.90 deal and test it out for yourself before committing to a yearly plan.

    • I was in Singleton NSW on the weekend and speedtest with Kogan was around 0.7mbps. Wife on Virgin got 6+mbps. When I tried browsing it kept timing out.

That said the 'free wireless broadband' at the motel was even slower…

At the McDonalds on the M1 (southbound) coverage was terrible also, McD app wouldn't even log in without timing out(also their wireless sucks too, no free coffee for me).

My past experience is that Telstra usually has wider regional coverage, but even they suck if you move away from major roads. Although usually if I had coverage on the Telstra network wife usually has it on Virgin/Optus also.

    • You really have to test it yourself. Buy the $4.90 Kogan SIM like amts suggested, or borrow a Vodafone/Kogan SIM from someone to try, etc. Vodafone own their own network and they did a lot of upgrading after the 'Vodafail' debacle. So it can be really fast - or not.

      • Strange I regularly go through there and never any dramas, in fact works extremely well around Sydney, Central Coast, Parra and Newcastle. Drove to Melbourne and streamed maps/music the whole way and worked around the city well too. Honestly never thought about going too Telstra.

  • Good on Kogan for doing this . Hopefully this forces others to drop their plans as well .

  • +3

Oh my! Is it time to get off good ole Optus shitty cable internet? Everyone in my household uses Kogan mobile X Large plan. So almost no need for traditional fraudband.

  • Value for money, really happy with my medium plan but will be sweeter if Kogan throw in extra GB like other plans

  • Wish Kogan would SMS their own links… The phone the SIM is in has a small screen, making the last character of the URL was on the next line. So when I typed it on the computer to see what the msg was about (missing that last character), I get the message:

Warning – visiting this web site may harm your computer!

The website at http://xxxxx appears to host malware – malicious software that can steal your personal information, send spam email or otherwise operate without your consent. Just visiting a site that hosts malware can infect your computer.

  • Yaaaaaay! Now I have 23 GB :D

    • Now… Do we still get $4.90 SIMs? Hmmm???

      1. 100GB (Optus mobile broadband deal with tablet for $52.50/m) divided by 23GB = Need to buy 5x $4.90 Kogan SIMs = $24.50 per 30 days, or $24.84 per month.

      2. 140GB (Optus mobile broadband deal without tablet for $52.50/m) divided by 23GB = Need to buy 6x $4.90 Kogan SIMs = $29.40 per 30 days, or $29.81 per month.

      ;-D

      • I don't exactly understand you comparison?! Are you comparing Optus plan + Tablet with Kogan SIM plan?!

        • +1

I'm mucking about. Sort of. i.e. If Kogan had $4.90 SIMs available forever, you could buy several of those instead of committing to mobile broadband - but at about half the cost.

        • @GregMonarch: the Optus plans are data only.
          Voice component adds to cost.

        • @xsacha: Yep, I was only referring to the data. Just joshin' was I.

  • Just received a text saying that my data has increased! Sweet!

  • Waiting for the other telcos to respond now. Hopefully with 30gb for the same price.

  • if i have 2 numbers under 1 account will the data got shared? (just like optus).
also for the large for example, 16gb data per month is not rolled over, correct?

    • Data don't roll over sadly

    • No sharing I’m afraid or rollover. But very cheap!

  • Fantastic! Received an SMS from Kogan and also checked my account. My data has been increased.

    • Yep increased data shows up on both mine and mrs plans. Fortunate as she went over her data this morning and waiting for her to hassle me to top-up her plan :)

  • My account now showing 23gb, only signed up for the 365 day XL a few days ago. Hooray.

  • damn just a week ago signed for optus $30 for 15gb ….. sob sob sob

    • Name checks out.

    • On the bright side… Optus has data- free streaming on music services like Spotify

      • dont use it. you need premium spotify anyway which is not free.

  • I find myself going outside (to a nice location by the river) to watch video (TV, movies) just to use up my data :-)

I guess it gets me out of the house…

    Thanks Kogan!

    • I thought this was building up to a joke at first, then I was like that sounds really relaxing and chill.

  • Still trying to get a dam SIM delivered from them so I can use the 12month prepaid I bought. Made me wait 14 day before they will send another one … happened twice now… thats a month and still no sim.

    • +1

Very strange they always delivered mine super quick!

      • +1

Getting it sent to my workplace, other stuff gets here fine. they confirmed the addresses for the second sending. Basically if its not here before I break for work holidays then I'm asking for a refund. the whole needing a specific sim to switch carriers has never made sense to me … bring on the e-sims.

  • Is the Kogan service better than Aldi Mobile? Not sure which one to go with, I only know Aldi Mobile use Telstra network so is it vastly better?

    • No, Kogan (Voda) better sometimes from my experience

    • Aldi doesnt get full telstra network.

  • +3

Interesting comparison… buy IPhone X outright and add Kogan Large (16gb) plan equals approx $87 per month (assuming can get last 12 months same price or cheaper). Closest plans from Optus and Voda are $117 and $115 respectively (both have less included data!). That’s a saving of $720 over the life of these plans if you can come up with the initial outlay $1579.

    • +1

That’s basically what I’m doing! Additional savings if you can utilise TRS

    • i always said never go into phone contract. that is just stupid, and only good for people who cant actually cant afford it but want to looks cool with expensive phones

      • iphone 8 64GB Optus deal worked out to be $51/month for two yrs (with 20 GB data plan AND 150 international minutes) after $200 EFTPOS gift card from Harvey Norman. Even if you apply discounted price for the phone, the plan still works out to be cheaper than Kogan. Not sure how you think Kogan deal is better! And, you could always sell your unlocked iPhone 8 at near market value which made it even sweeter.

    • +1

I haven't been in contact for 5 years. Its always been cheaper. You just need to have cash to buy phone outright

  • Yes! Got the sms about an hour, thank you Kogan!

  • Hell yes! 23.5GB for $25pm. Laughing, thanks Ruslan!

    • Rounding? Best I can see is $26.50 per mth.

      • +1

Do $4.95 for 1st month then buy $300 Kogan gift cards at Woolies at 5% off and you pay $23.47 for 13 months.

        • where exactly? i cant see it online woolworths?

        • @Jonski:

          in store mate.

  • Has anyone here had any experience with Kogan mobile in metropolitan South Australia? hows it go using vodafone towers? what are the up and down data rates like? thanks in advance.

    • +1

I'm around the Unley/CBD areas mostly and I've had no issues really with the coverage over the last year or so :)

    • +1

I spend most of my time in the western suburbs and inner southern suburbs and have great speeds and call quality pretty much all the time.

  • What network does Kogan purchase & run off? Telstra?

  • +1

wish they were doing same deals as amaysim like 6 months for $25 :)

    • I actually switched from kogan to this deal last week, ordered it like 1-2 months ago.

Had to use live chat to activate the sim because it's been idling too long and the automation system was cut off.

      • Which deal did you move to exactly? Amaysim's $25 for 6 months (ie 28 days x 6) deal expired ages ago.

  • If only their international calling options weren't so constrained/expensive.

    • +1

Buy Skype gift cards for 50% discount and you are ready to roll…

      • I hate Skype.. we are past anything that needs you to create an account and remember username/password. High time whatsapp makes it possible to call international numbers through VoIP (ie even if the other side didn't have internet).

      • where are skype cards at 50% off? they used to be regularly discounted but it's dried up lately

  • My teenager is so happy, used to have 1gb but now more than doubled! On her account is says 2048mb. Shame they didn't upgrade the 6gb too, but the rest of the plans are now insanely cheap. Well done Kogan!

    • It is just doubled, not "more than doubled". 1GB is 1024MB.

      • +1

        Not bad for free!

  • +1

And to think I was just about to go with Amaysim; this has just sealed the deal. Good one, Kogan.

  • +2

Bought the large 365 day pack on sale, comes to $20 a month. Started off with 10gb data a month, which was a great deal to begin with, but they're constantly out-doing themselves.

    God bless.

  • +6

Joined Kogan Mobile in July when it was a discounted price. My plan works out at about $27 a month for unlimited calls/messages with 16GB a month. They gave me a bonus 2GB last month at no added cost. Now I get 23GB. First company I've dealt with that seem to reward current customers appropriately.

  • +2

Is it true that Kogan used up data quicker?
On my phone it says I used 2GB this month but on the Kogan site it says 3GB.
Anyone have similar things happened to them?

    • +2

Yea I’ve posted the same thing once, I seemed to have burnt 5GB doing nothing more than what I usually do with 3gb when I switched to Kogan for a month. Pretty sure Kogan calculates data in a way that says I use more from experience.

  • +4

I love the fact that with these plans you don't have to worry about your phone plan/bills for a whole year.
    sorted

  • If i were to buy one, when is the expiry that I have to sign up with it?
    if anybody knows…

    • +1

If you're after one of their discounted prepaid plans, then you must purchase the voucher by the 31st of Dec 2017 and redeem the voucher by the 31st of Jan, 2018.

Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 31/01/2018.

      • +2

It’s been updated to 31/1 to purchase and 28/2 for activation

        • Thank you, just noticed that now :) Ignore my original comment @dddddog

  • Can anyone tell me whether I can port out for existing number using the voucher (I’m currently with TPG). Thanks in advance

    • +2

Yes you can. I was with Optus previously and the process took around 15 min to port my number to Kogan. Not sure if it's still that quick, however there shouldn't be a problem in doing so :)

Edit: You should be receiving a free SIM card with your purchase of the voucher. During the set up process, it will ask you whether you would like to keep your old number or have a new one provided by Kogan Mobile.

  • Anyone has intermittent issue of slow browsing (especially with Chrome browser) with this sim used as a hotspot (with wireless modem)?

    • Yes, since the weekend. I am in Spring Hill, Brisbane. This has never happened before. GMail in standard view won't load at all. Maybe this is the downside of the increased quotas.

      • I hv experienced the issue since at least 2 wks ago. Strange enough, it mostly affects chrome browsing. PS4 download still fast.

  • I'm trying to break my contract with Optus just started a week ago and get this kogan. Coverage isn't good with Optus anyway that is my reason to cancel/cooling off period

  • Hey, I think mine account (Medium) has increased from 6Gb to 7Gb

    • Husband’s account says :
      National Data
      6144.00MB

      • oh then only I have this special deal? Mine says 7168MB

        • Wow, that is lucky!

  • Hmm kogan doesn't offer roaming? I saw premier add on $14.95 to call overseas from Australia but when we are overseas basically number is dead?

    • +2

      Correct, no roaming offered

      • That’s sad, but for the price we cannot complain!

  • Anyone know how long from purchase you have activate the service? Or does it port you upon purchase?

    • +1

    • 31 January

    • Just checked and is 28/02/18!

  • Is it $10 per gb?

  • After Telstra has ended the play store credit on Freedom plus, I have now decided to move to Kogan too! Husband and daughter already with them (6gb and 2gb). I just bought the 6gb plan, but used a $50 voucher which was on here (paid $9 for it so $41 discount), plus got $10 off from husbands referral. Total for 1 year at 6gb $156.60. What a bargain, I will be moving over end of February as I still have some Telstra vouchers.

    • Ok care to explain how to get all those perks? I have 2 numbers so also interested with the the referral thing. Thanks.

      • The $50 discount are sold on here or eBay (range between $9 and $15). The referral link is under your account. Just use a different email to sign up and both original account and new account get $10 off (to be used within 3 months). Just saved myself $51 (and if I use new voucher will be $61 :)
