There's a sign up, forgot to take a photo. Couldn't find the deal on their website either, but it's definitely on!

Should have checked JB HiFi first..

life is hard on ozb. you snooze you loose but you rush you burn

      • +5

Since discovering this website I have saved a lot of money but it's nerve wracking knowing there will no doubt be a better deal moments later. Time is money though.

        • +2

keep the adrenaline pumped~! every morning after you buy something from ozb you never know there will be something cheaper pops up!

        • +1

"Time is money though" - That is the only thing we can tell ourselves so that we can sleep easy. Deep inside, still will be regretting on missing out on a better deal.

    • +1

i signed up this morning too online :( maybe we can still cancel the order..

    • -4

You can cancel any contract within the cooling off period

      • What's the cooling off period?

I got the S8 on the $59 plan from a Telstra store on Monday, but haven't opened it yet. Can I cancel and get this?

      • +2

        Unfortunately NO …… see this

        • Yeah that's what I understood too. I thought tnarg knew something I didn't know :)

        • +1

but if you can proof their coverage isn't good in your home/work area where slow internet and missed calls can cause $$ to your life, then maybe you can get out without paying early termination fees.

          am i right?

        • @dragonindespair:

With telstra they dont cancel nothing unopened or not… even it it means losing out on a business contract and having proved no coverage.. we got there in the end but they sure didn't make it easy. Did get the ombudsman involved

        • +1

@dragonindespair: yes you are correct. I cancelled my vodafone contract 6 months early with no extra costs saying reception is poor in South East and mainly in Monrington VIC

But I doubt there is a place in Vic where you can’t get telstra signal.

        • @Shopaholicdesi: so only after 6 month you complain? Hmm good but strange they didn't point that out that you had been using it forr 6 months already

        • -2

          @dragonindespair: So what?

        • @Diji1: we are on the same side here, don't get offended. If works for you then good, I might use the same tactic next time.

        • Cancelled my account with Optus the day after and returned the handset, stated that it wouldn't cover the range i needed due to travel. Went to telstra - I got lucky i guess by the sounds of it or perhaps a new Optus recruit

        • @dragonindespair: I cancelled it in Last 6 months in a 2 year contract.

I used to live in Northern Suburbs before and recently moved to Frankston where Vodafone's reception is poor.

        • @Shopaholicdesi: ah so because of the move. fair enough. good to know.

        • @Shopaholicdesi: I get a 4G voda signal perfectly fine in Mornington and Frankston. Is your experience recent?

        • @Gershom: ABout 2 months ago. I work Baxter and when I am inside my office, I never get more than two bars and the calls are not clearly Audible.

        • @Shopaholicdesi: Interesting. I do all my grocery shopping at Woollies in Baxter, never had the slightest problem. I'm on a Moto G5 plus.

      • +1

There is no cooling off period when you order yourself online.

    • should we do it @melay0326?

      • +2

I can't stand the suspense. Did you?

    • +4

Most places have a 30 day change of mind policy :)

    • +1

There should be a cooling off period. Check the T&Cs - you might be able to cancel/return the phone.

    • +1

if my memory serves me right, I believe by Australia Law you have 32 hours cooling period on every contract that you signed.
Maybe our laywer friend at ozb can verify this statement. :)

  • how much data?

  • Same 15gb telstrat deal?

  • +1

So you get the phone and Unlimited Telstra calls\text…any data for $1416 over 24months?

    • +25

Nope no data, they expect you to use pigeons to contact your loved ones.

      • +1

Here I thought it was a piece of string between you and friends?

        • +1

Thats way too advance. And it would rely on your friends keeping the cup and string within reach.

        • +9

Still a better option than the NBN…

  • -2

    more details? 24m contract? inclusion?

  • +11

Your better off porting to Voda then go in store and get the $200 voucher for the $49/20GB deal then go online and get the family and friends deal with this same phone then you can get $10 off and another 5gb extra. So you make $200 gift card get a free Pixel 2 64gb and have the same plan and get the home mini online

    • +1

      then = than? confused

      • +16

        No and then

      • How do you get $10 off and extra 5gb, if F&F is $59 and 15gb?

        • Just about to ask the same thing

        • +2

          @orange16:

Call this number a couple of days after you receive your phone from the FF deal and say you ported in and the chat promised you $10 off and you can get it 1800354192 you used to be able to get $100 fron cashrewards until TA pulled the plug on that deal

        • @eneloop: it's all about placement

    • +1

No plan at Telstra for $59 with Pixel 2

    • I don't understand. So you signup to JB-Hi as new customer and get $49/20gb + 200giftcard.. then go on Telstra's site and signup to another contract? HOw does it work?

      • since you're going from a 12 month contract from jbhifi to 24 month contract via telstra F&F ( it overwrites the jbhifi plan)
However don't know how people get $10 off from $59 tesltra f&f

      • You're upgrading from one contract to another, which it aopears that they're allowing

      • +52

This is what I think he meant:

        1) Sign up to JBHIFI with the $49/20GB plan + $200 gift card. This bags the Gift Card for you and gets the service with Telstra.
        2) "RECONTRACT" the same service above onto the $59 Friends and Family 15GB offer WITH the Pixel 2 directly at Telstra.

*** this works because if you recontract the first plan, there is no handset/dpc/mro so therefore changing any plans within Telstra aslong as you lock into a contract will waive any service fees. Upgrading within Telstra BUT you have a handset still in contract will incur fee's for the remainder of the handset. Since Step 1 did not include a handset, you can freely move onto any Telstra plans with a handset. Therefore going from step 1 to 2 will get you a $200 gift card instead of the $100 by going straight onto the $59 F&F plan.

You will end up with the new plan - 15GB NOT the 20GB from the first contract and will start your 24 months contract with handset from the date step 2 is done. Hope that clears it up.

        • +2

Can I move at JB for total $300 and a mini home?

        • +2

Best description in last three deal post. Should give you all my up vote today

        • +1

          @Slippery Fish:

No. The gift cards are for NEW services. So port ins and new numbers I believe.

So once you sign up as per step one that's your 'new' service. If you go to do Step 2 at JBHIFI, they will see it as a recontract and not provide the gift card. You'd also probably raise suspicion by signing up to step 1 and then saying, "actually I'll just recontract onto the phone plan now" and thus them seeing you take the $200 GC instead. Even if you waited a couple days I'm not sure how they'd react if they realized you came in a couple days ago and got a $200 voucher and then upgraded to get the handset.

I'd be safe and just do them at separate locations - Telstra won't care if you recontracted an hour after signing up at JB so long as the order is 'complete' in their system.

Edit: Telstra are also giving the Google Home Mini as a Gift With Purchase.

        • +2

This is true but you can negotiate via chat for an extra 5gb Xmas bonus and then call the number for the 10 off. I have done it for my wife my cousins and his wife and also his mate

        • @imomox3:

So what phones are there now with this running deal ?
Samsung s8 and pixel 2 and any others?

          Should I wait little longer?

Do you get the phone on spot at Telstra shop when recontacting?

        • @lovepub:

          iPhone 6/6s
          Pixel 1 - 64GB
          Pixel 1 XL - 64GB
          Samsung Galaxy S8
          Pixel 2 64GB
          Telstra Signature 2

Provided they have stock - yes it's done on the spot.

        • Can you explain a further step in the process please?

          1) Go to JBHifi and get $49 deal
          2) Do I go to a Telstra Shop Straight away? or do I have to wait until I receive the new sim card in the mail?
          3) Then sign up to friends and family deal at telstra?

          Thanks

        • +10

          @pondong:

          Okay lets do a scenario.

          1) Go into JB HI FI and ask for the $49 plan with $200 gift card - 20GB plan etc etc. This will lock you in to a 12 month Telstra BYO Contract. At that time, they will either provide you a new number or you port your number from another telco.
Depending on the port time frame, this is what will determine how fast you can get the phone. Orders can take anywhere from 1 minute to 24 hours (they obviously have to cover their arse - this goes for any telco). You'll know the port is complete when the old service with the losing provider stops working, that means the new provider starts working and the sim is active.

          2) As long as the order is in a "Complete" status on Telstras system which they will be able to see in store, you can then sign up to the $59 Friends and Family offer with any of the phones I listed above. If we're doing the Google Pixel 2 64gb, make sure to also ask for the Google Home Mini which is a free Gift With Purchase. As my original comment, this will void the contract in step 1 so the 20GB will then turn into 15GB as provided in the $59 Friends and Family plan/offer.

          3) All done.

There is no need to wait for a simcard in the mail or anything. It can all be done within an hour provided the systems do it fast enough (no reasoning behind this but it varies heavily - hence the 1m - 24h timeframe). Of course, aslong as the store has stock too.

*Some people here in the comments have said they have successfully gotten both the $200 GC for the first contract, and then recontracted to the second contract and received another $100 GC - the second GC should NOT happen if rules are followed as that promo applies to new services and port ins. As you are 'recontracting' in step 2 it is not supposed to happen. It's your call if you want to attempt this at JB HI FI but like I said it may raise eyebrows especially if you attempt to do this straight away.

        • +1

@eneloop: please pm me exactly how you got $10 off as I just tried and was told "it states no further discounts apply"

        • @imomox3: Thanks, that was a great deal of content in your reply! All understood now. Thanks Again.

    • I don't get this. You end up paying for two contracts.

    • +1

It is not the same plan. You will get taken out of the BYO plan - including those benefits, and placed on the 15GB plan without discounts.

      • How do some people get the $10 discount?

        • +1

Manual error at the Telstra store. I don't think I've read any instances of people getting this at the JB stores getting the $10 off or 5GB bonus for this F&F deal. That was for the BYO plan with the $200 gift card.

        • @Munki: u can get the 5GB bonus data definitely through online chat.. but they stopped providing $10 off for those switching contracts.. however few ozb's have got that too.

        • +1

@svmick: That's still up in the air at the moment I think because I believe it's originally for multiple services with Telstra. But doesn't hurt to ask. ;)

    • There's no proof of this being available to everyone and anyone.

    • @eneloop can you give this in step-by-step instructions, so that it becomes easy to follow. I am currently using Optus.

    • And then……

  • +22

    | but it's defiantly on!

    Such a rebel…

killed me on the inside too.. glad i'm not alone..

  • Damn, I wish I waited for this instead of opting for the Huawei Mate 10 pro +200 eftpos card at Harvey Norman!

    • +1

Then a better deal comes around the corner. Wish I waited for that.

    • You realise the Pixel 2 has a 5" screen right? Not really comparable to the Mate 10 Pro.

  • +2

why is there so many people "accidentally" saw the deal at store when they obviously follow the other thread and got it because others reported in the comment….

  • read somewhere that it's a fragile phone.

    • +4

All phones are fragile when dropped.

      • Not necessarily. And for those that are fragile, some are more fragile than others.

Trying to feel better about your recent Pixel 2 purchase?

        • +1

Not necessarily. And for those that are fragile, some are more fragile than others.

Even modern smartphones with tougher glass and aluminum chassis will still incur significant damage when dropped from a height or if treated roughly.

Trying to feel better about your recent Pixel 2 purchase?

Not really, I have mine wrapped nicely in a decent case with a tempered glass screen protector.

@bargainparker: Haha, I still have 2 of these unopened that I bought from Ozbargain deal. So much for OzBargain saving you money!

          @Lorindor:

Come on man. Ask yourself - why are drop tests relevant for phones? Because they vary in how fragile they are!!!

Doesn't the fact that I could tell that you recently purchased a Pixel 2 shed any light on your behaviour?

        • @billy_bob:

          Can I have 1 for Christmas :)
