Apologies if this has been posted, but I was just in JB hifi Adelaide Rundle Mall spotted it - The new Google 64gb Pixel 2 on Telstra for $59 a month Unlimited calls/text, and 15gb data (i think). Good deal coupled with $100 gift voucher + google home mini.

There's a sign up, forgot to take a photo. Couldn't find the deal on their website either, but it's definitely on!

When does these 2 promo ends ? The 49 and 59 deal ?
    Thanks !

    • Can’t do the double dipping anymore
Tried at city and wasted 2 hours chasing back and forth

You will need to refund the 200 dollars on the spot

  • The port over from Optus is taking forever. Already been an hour.

How are people getting the $10 discount from the $49 BYO plan to the $59 F&F plan?

  • -1

Guys JB hi fi has put a checkpoint now for new $59 telstra upgrades , If you have got $200 gift card in $49 plan then it will become void. please suggest better way to avoid it.

    • -1

Is this why you’re selling a $100 JB Hi-Fi voucher? What a coincidence? Booo

  • +4

    Hey guys,
This morning I managed to sign up for a pixel 2 and get the $300 worth of gift cards. It was at jb hiding Frankston at 9am.

I straight up said I was going to sign up for the 49 plan, get the 200 and then sign up at telstra for the family and friends deal.

The guy said he could do it all at jb and I never mentioned the 100 voucher, I had the ad on my phone ready and was going to ask at the end but I didn't need to, the 100 voucher printed out by itself.

Whole process took an hour but I walked out with a new pixel 2, google home mini, aiaiaiai pipe headphones, 200 voucher, 100 voucher and on the 59$ family and friends plan with 15gig.

    Happy days

    • hi, can you confirm if the $200 voucher was separate to $100 voucher and people are reporting that once you go on friends and family deal $59 the $200 becomes void, is that correct?

  • Does anyone know if you can add a data share SIM on top? Looking to use the extra SIM for my iPad mini. Thanks!

    • Yep, at $5 a month for 100MB

  • Anyone tried to get a Pixel 2 XL on the deal?

  • No more 2 gift cards now … 😒 JB strengthen the t & c for this deal

  • +3

Managed to get the $200 + $100 @ Adelaide Rundle Mall this morning

    • congrats
was done on the spot, ie walked in jb got the $49 deal, then upgraded to the $59 deal straight away with the same person ..

      • yeah, the guy knew what I was doing and it was all done by the same person within 2 hours, neededto wait for the port to complete before doing the upgrade of the plan though, so that is the only risk I can see (my other sim is now in day 11 with no service due to errors in the Telstra provisioning system)

  • Ok so two questions!

Does anyone have the critical information summary for this contract?

And I'm thinking it is truly just pot luck with the Telstra and JB combo right, some people having luck others not?

  • Hello besides Frankston JB HiFi in Victoria, has anyone else tried in other locations in the past few days? Looking to stack the offers and get the $300 vouchers also! Thanks!

    • going to try JB HIFI Glen Waverley and Doncaster today.

      • Thanks, let us know how you go please!

        • +1

Go to knox. They did it for me the other day

    • -1

No stacking in JB hi fi Chatswood nsw

    • I just did the $100 and $200 combo at JB HI-FI at Knox. I will have to wait for the $100, as they had run out of the pixel 2, but once I get the pixel 2 and return to JB, I'll get $100 gift card.
I was already aware of the 20 gig BYO deal and move to the pixel 2 deal. Matt at JB HI-FI without me prompting him, told me about this deal, so I was happy to proceed with this deal.

      • Dam should have gone to knox. No stock at Glen and refused to stack. They only found stock at Camberwell. Have to wait until number ports over and then pick up phone.

        • Bad luck medlee sorry to hear

      • That's great fatall! Did you port over? I'm on prepaid Telstra and want to keep my number… Not sure if the stacking will work…

  • +2

I was blocked by Telstra for 3 months for trying port out and port in. I will not be able to get any Telstra plans for next 3 months :(

  • Just got this deal with the S8 from JB, except they told me the $100 wasn't available as I ported from Telstra prepaid. Is this wrong? Is there T&Cs for this deal?

    • That’s wrong. I got the $100 (well when I get the Pixel 2 I will) Gift Card and I came from Telstra PrePaid

      • Yeah, thought so. Not even sure who to contact to get this resolved, as the JB store was adamant I couldn't get it porting from Telstra :(.

I think they got confused with the BYO plan with $200 credit.

        • Probably go back to the store and ask them where it says you're excluded from the $100 gift card.

        • @kerfuffle: Problem is I can't find anything about the deal anywhere (online or instore). The only thing is the email linked in this thread, which shows the Google Pixel + $100 + Home Mini (and home mini isn't eligible with the S8).

        • @nickolanda: Maybe that’s why you didn’t get the $100 gift card as well - because you didn’t get the Pixel

    • The $100 gc is with pixel 2 only not with s8. The title of the deals tells it.

      • i got s8 and $100 gc yesterday at ryde JB. I was refused the same at Maquarie park JB so it totally depends who you get .

  • Tried to get this deal from the city JBs and it was a no go. If you port over from the $49 plan, they'll ask you to surrender the $200 GC. Wondering if anyone has tried to port in store and get the f&f deal from Telstra Online…

    • They din't ask me to surrender any, but rep said they know where you are coming from(OzB) and why you are doing this, but unfortunately we can't upgrade you from 49$ to 59$. Just go to Telstra and you can get upgraded.

Went to Telstra, upgraded to S8 .. no questions asked!

      • Not bad at all! I was thinking about going through the online route ( JB is out of Pixels in Syd CBD)and seeing if I can swing the 5gig extra chat deal

        • Online orders are entitled to extra 5GB as per my chat convos.

  • How long does it take to port a number? I am with Vaya and I tried to sign up on last Saturday, but my port has still not been completed :S

    • Apparently Telstra updated their systems, so ports are taking longer than usual. I have been waiting for over 48 hours now (porting from Optus)

    • Phone rep said might take up to 24 hours to port over. However mine only took 30 minutes! They won't let you take the phone until number is ported.

      • Yeah, that's the thing. :S

  • 54 hours after I signed up at JB (porting out from Optus), I finally received a SMS from Optus confirming they received my request to port out. I'll report back how long it takes from here for the Optus service to cut off and Telstra to kick in.

    • 10 mins from message to no service.

      • Did you receive an email as well? I don't have the phone with me.

        • No email. Just a text message.

        • @oodian:

          That sucks!

  • +2

I got mine yesterday JB HIFI Woden - $59 plan 15gb, $100 giftcard, no issues.
The phone port literally took like 2 minutes. Vodafone to Telstra.

  • Looks like Optus to Telstra ports are taking their time. Phone rep thought it would happen in minutes but looks like I'm nearing the 24-hour mark now.

    • +1

I'm waiting since Saturday evening. Still no update. But this is from Vaya (Optus network).

      • I did notice that optus online chat was down for the last 24 hours and just came back online. Glad to be porting out, hope Telstra is alot better. At least I'll be getting bars good reception.

  • +1

I got the $200 voucher from the 49 BYO plan from JBHifi Bourke Street, Melbourne. Porting took about 24 hours. Went back next day to collect voucher once ported successfully.
Then went to Melbourne Central Telstra to upgrade to $59 F&F plan. At no point did the Telstra lady attempted to block. In fact the experience was really good. Took about 10-15 minutes to complete the whole deal.

    • Nice, was that from an optus network?

    • i did the same thing, but went back to jb hifi ( different store ) and signed up to the $59 deal and got the $100 voucher from JB :)

    • Did you also get the 100$ JB voucher at the Telstra store?

      • No. He wouldn't have got it.

    • Port in took 32 hours, was able to get the $200 voucher and the $100 at a separate store with the new plan. Double thumbs to Ozbargain once again!

      • Did you get to keep the 5gb bonus from the BYO, or just receive the 15gb?

        • +1

I got both vouchers and the 5GB addon credit - I just needed to mention the 'bonus 5GB data port-in credit' in the 24x7 online chat.

  • Has someone sold the Pixel 2. I am interested in getting the Pixel 2 XL.

    • +2

I sold the pixel for $850 and the home mini for $65 on eBay. Minus about $150 in fees and postage.

I got the panda XL instead outright.

      • Nice ebay sale, considering the mini is selling for $54 from a store! A true ozbargainer

      • I'm assuming that the pixel 2 from JB is unlocked so you have been able to sell it?

Did you buy the pixel 2 xl from JB outright using the gift cards and manage to get another home mini?

        • Yeah it is unlocked.
I did get another home mini with the XL

  • Has anyone (scored $200 + $100 gc) received the penalty from Telstra? The jb hifi guy said he can do it, but I'll get the cancellation penalty from telstra 49 plan cancellation

    • Did the JB HiFi guy say what the penalty would be? Or where this is stipulated in the T&C's?

      • +1

He didn't tell me how much the penalty is. From CIS (extracted from https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/phones/activatenow/), early termination charge for 'Go Mobile Plus BYO' is $354

        • Can you do the $49 byo plan then go to Telstra direct and get the S8? Will the penalty apply?

        • @cha059: nope. It will not apply. I did and confirmed from telstra rep about charges, they said none.

        • Actually you don't terminate GO MOBILE PLUS BYO as F&F deal also is $59 GO MOBILE PLUS BYO, however it comes with $0 repayment handset, so basically you are on the same base plan.

        • @danger163: great thanks!

  • +1

$330 in gift vouchers, $59/month, 20GB data, A google mini home spying device, and a Pixel 2 is best I've done, and kind of by accident I have another pixel 2 on the way, which I'm supposed to return
    Here's what I did:

    1. Sign up on $49 plan, get $200 gift card, but have them issue 2x $100, so you get an extra $20
    2. Sign up online for family and friends
    3. Waited. Eventually chatted and there is no stock for another day
    4. Rage out, need instant satisfaction, so walk towards Telstra shop
    5. See JB's $100 gift card offer, go in and chat up your favorite store chick/dude to confirm they'll give it to you if you cancel current order
    6. Called Telstra to cancel order, apparently Online sales is a separate business, but they 'put a note on my account'
    7. JB Chick see's a 'pending' order, so can't process new plan. Convince her to click "Cancel", which surprisingly works!
    8. Get another $100 gift card, plus the $10 coupon
    9. Buy $330 of other junk
    10. Chat with Telstra online when 5Gig bonus comes up. Make up some rubbish about how they told you to go into a shop, blahblah, get 5Gig

at #10, they also were kind enough to advise that my new Pixel 2 had just been shipped by courier and will arrive at my office tomorrow !

  • Ive managed to score 10$ discount over chat after lots of tries!!

    • Well done, mate! Can I ask what you said to convince them to do it?

      • Normal story. Was told.. i would get after porting.. then rep said you can but not on fnf.. i told i wouldnt have upgraded if thats the case ;)
Boom.. rep agreed for 10$ discount.

    • Did you switch from the BYO plan?
Did you manage the discount because you have other Telstra services?

  • Tried to do the port out from Telstra pre-paid to Vodafone, change to $49/$200 deal, then upgrade to $59/$100/Pixel deal yesterday for the wife. JB Hifi sales reps were extremely shady in their demeanour, and categorically said this would not work.

The Telstra shop sales rep said it should work fine, and encouraged this process.

Eventually, the best I could get out of JB was to port the now Vodafone account to the $59/$100/Pixel deal. Not sure why they couldn't include the $49 part of the deal, but they specifically mentioned OzB and said they would get in trouble from Telstra if they did it.

Still can't work out why they could port her to the $59 deal, but not the $49 deal. I suspect there was no real technical reason, but loss of sales/commission attached.

  • They ran out of Just Black Pixel 2s at JB Hi-Fi Westfield Parramatta when I signed up in Monday, so apparently it’ll be delivered to me from Telstra. As far as I know, it hasn’t been sent out yet. Anyone else in the same boat?

  • +1

Just traded my 5GB bonus data for $10/month credit!
And when i next get a popup, I'll probably/maybe be able to get the 5GB back:
(score is now $330 gift vouchers, 15GB, pixel 2, $49 plan for 24 months, and a google spy device)

Part of chat - preceding this I bamboozled them with a tale of woe about orders, chats, phones, weather, my upcoming holiday, how hard it is to find reasonably priced car parking in the city, google home spying for the NSA, and the fact that my lifelong dreams to explore historic areas of the middle east may go unfulfilled due to political and religious tensions.

Do you have any chat trnascipt where is has mentioned that you will get 5GB bonus and $10 credit

    ME:
no sorry, but i thought it would be saved on my account notes. I know the guy on the phone who helped me yesterday put some info in there that if i receive a duplicate handset that i need to return it, and that this would be ok/Telstra wont double bill me

I think the chat person was Roberto

    LAXMI at 14:49, Dec 21:
I would like to tell you that we are able to provide either $10 discount or 5 Gb bounus data.
Since in new plan you have already provided gift as free device hence we dont have access to add both discount at one time.

    ME:

    oh right…
but just about every time i visit Telstra's website it says to chat to you guys for a bonus 5GB :) I guess I just wait for that popup and ask for it then?

    LAXMI at 14:51, Dec 21:
    sure no worries.

    ME:
lets just do the $10 discount then… will wait for the next popup bonus!
kind of strange way of doing things though

    LAXMI at 14:52, Dec 21:
I understsnd your concern however as differnt plans have differnt rules hence we dont have option to add both discounts on friends and family plan.

    ME:
    ok

    LAXMI at 14:53, Dec 21:
I will add $10 per month discount for your plan now.

    ME:
    thanks for that

I will add $10 per month discount for your plan now.

    ME:

    thanks for that

    LAXMI at 14:53, Dec 21:
    My pleasure.
Can you please allow me 2-3 minutes while Process the request for you?

    ME:

    yeah sure

    LAXMI at 14:54, Dec 21:
    Thank you.

    LAXMI at 14:55, Dec 21:
    Thank you for being online.

    LAXMI at 14:56, Dec 21:
This is to inform you that I have added $10 per month discount on your plan. Your reference number.. 1-xxxxxx

    • Check your email.. they might have sent you revised upfront costs to confirm they have applied the discount.

      • Yep:
        Ongoing
        Monthly Cost
        49.00

        Ongoing Charges
Go Mobile Plus BYO Plan $59
        (monthly charge 18 JAN - 17 FEB) $59.00
Google Pixel 2 64GB Payment Contract
        (monthly charge 18 JAN - 17 FEB) $0.00
        Monthly Mobile Credit
        (monthly charge 18 JAN - 17 FEB) -$10.00

They reckon I owe about 110 for first month, but I think that's because it hasn't calculated a part month properly with plans cancelled so rapidly

    • Hecking good bamboozle over there!

  • Finally got the port concluded yesterday.

Blew the whole gift card on Cygnett cables, 3 for myself, 2 lightning cables for wife's iPhone 8 from Optus deal. :S

  • I got the deal yesterday. The jb hifi employee said this deal will end in a few days.

    • I think it ends on Christmas Eve

  • First time I bought anything from JB for years. Still a bunch of trendy assholes working in there.

I asked for this deal and they feigned ignorance, even said it's not available until I let out a loud " urgggggh " and showed them this page.

Dunno why you wouldn't want to sell something to a willing customer.

The guy that signed me up treated me like a retard until I purposefully started to talk about how android is better because he said something about having a pixel 2, and talking about other plans and how this one is better etc.

Im going to assume they deal with lots of simple people everyday.

    • Weird. Westfield Parramatta had a massive banner advertising it

  • +1

being on annual leave gives me too much time on my hands. went to jb, needed a sonos connect.
price matched em to aussie hifi's $479.
then told i can only use one of the bonus $10 vouchers at a time.

workaround is buying 2x $15 HDMI cables or whatever, separate transactions. then refund them.
they will give your credit card back $5, and $10 of store credit, which is different that the stupid vouchers, and can stack

it was only $20, but the topknot hipster idiot with too tight jeans was raging the hell out about every part of our interaction. i think it was good for him, so i persisted :)

  • What is the going rate for Google Pixel 2?
Don't need a new handset, but this plans may work out cheaper than a $32 BYO SIM only plan (if I can get a good price on the Pixel 2)?

    • give or take $800
edit. also value add in $200 jb gift card
$950 value, $1450 total cost over 24 months
      $500 over 24 months ~ $21 month

  • I was promised the $10 discount originally (before placing the order online) by a live chat agent. Then when I agreed, he said he had to apply it once I received the phone. I tried doing this three times and no one would so I was a bit firmer today and got it. (thanks dnutter)

-TO get it, I explained that it was promised originally (I didn't have a reference number) and that they said they would make a note on my account
-I will be making a complaint and going to the TIO if it isn't resolved
-I am excited for Christmas, have time off work, are planning for my holiday and like Punjabi MC's song with Jay Z
-Asked the Livechat agent if she had time off (she did! one week)
-That I would be a very happy Telstra customer if I received what was promised

  • dnutter, am I able to email you about the deals/offers you got?
