3120

Apologies if this has been posted, but I was just in JB hifi Adelaide Rundle Mall spotted it - The new Google 64gb Pixel 2 on Telstra for $59 a month Unlimited calls/text, and 15gb data (i think). Good deal coupled with $100 gift voucher + google home mini.

There's a sign up, forgot to take a photo. Couldn't find the deal on their website either, but it's definitely on!

        • @billy_bob:
And can i have the other one for Christmas (makes puppy face)

        • @zailiner:

You're completely missing the point I was trying to make with my original comment; they asked if the phone was fragile, not if it were more or less fragile than any other phone, but just if it were fragile - which all phones are, because they're expensive devices compiled of intricate little pieces that unfortunately break if enough force is applied.

Doesn't the fact that I could tell that you recently purchased a Pixel 2 shed any light on your behaviour?

I hate to tell ya, and I know you won't believe me, but my comment has nothing to do with me owning one, I'm simply just over reading the same old dumb comments on this site.

        • @Lorindor: >which all phones are

Yeah except for the metal, plastic and ceramic ones. Which is most of them.

        • @Diji1:

What are you trying to say?

        • @Lorindor: I come here just to make sure the comments are pretty much the same. I don't have time to read the news or anything like that so i just sort of tap into the overall vibe of the general chatter on OzB like stick your hand out a window to see what the weathers like.

Not all phones- eg moto force.

      • Not my 3310

check out reddit, everyone is hating on it.

It's trying to do an apple, making a pretty but boring phone.

      long story short.

Aesthetics suck, feels tacky and has a lot of QC issues. See reddit post of things to immediate check once you first use the phone.

Things going for it, best camera on the market, front facing speakers, the best android OS phone experience.

I went to JB and it feels like one of those cheap huawei phones. Screen looks cruddy compared to the XL too.

      • Yeah, I'm still deciding whether to keep my unopened S8 or try and return it for the Pixel 2. If it was the XL, it would be an easier decision. The non XL looks pretty crap.

I'm leaning towards keeping the S8, it seems to have more positives than the Pixel 2. The only things the Pixel 2 have over the S8 seem to be software, camera, speakers and fingerprint scanner location. The S8 has bigger, higher res screen, smaller bezels, headphone jack, microSD and looks better. I can ways install a custom ROM if I hate the Samsung software that much.

The only things the Pixel 2 have over the S8 seem to be software, camera

2 pretty significant things I'd say.

  • it was on telstra's website, since last night. until this moring sometime, they removed it. you can still try in store or jbhifi according to some feedback

  • International calls?

  • +6

    Has anyone tried this approach?

    1. Sign up on $49 plan and get $200 jb gift card.
    2. Then upgrade to $59 F&F offer and get the bonus $100 jb gift card.

    Total $300 JB Gift Card.

    • New customers only no re-contract. JB can track if you are a new customer or existing Telstra (boost/woolies) customer. You have to port in to get the deal according to my local JB rep. If this is true it definitely won’t work.

      • Are you referring to the $200 or the $100?

      • @ allenhori

That's only if you want the second offer from Jb. If you don't want the $100 card from the second offer, you can still go directly to Telstra and get the F&f offer with the phone.

      • With Boost, so from what you are saying not a 'new' Telstra customer…Anyone have a suggestion on the most painless way to port from Boost to be able to port back as a new customer on the JB deal without losing my service or being out of pocket etc? Figured someone might have something tried and tested that is quick and easy! TIA :)

        • +1

You would need to port out to Optus/Vodaphone/etc then port back in as Boost is considered to be a "Telstra Pre-Paid service" (as explained to me by a Telstra rep on their chat system). Some people said it can be done within minutes to an hour while others have stated you have to be with another provider for more then 30 days. Good luck :)

    • +5

I had the original $49 plan with $200 gift card. Held off signing up to the F&F plan until this came out. Signed up at JB for the Pixel 2 and got a $100 gift card.

Total: $300 JB gift card (no expiry) and two $10 vouchers to use in store (valid until 31/1/2018).

      Edit: Originally ported from Virgin.

      • Good work

      • Awesome to see you got the $100 GC even from an upgrade/recontract.

For everyone else though, YMMV. If the JB Consultant sees that you're existing and they know the rules well no point contesting it.

      • argghhh this is why you shouldn't reda comments after you have the deal. I went direct to Telstra rather then JB for re-contracting. darn it - did you get Google home mini and AiAiAi headphones? they were what I got from telstra.

        • Yep. I suspect it's just how they're packaged from Google. They're all in the same shrink wrap.

    • yep I got that deal at Werribee. exactly 2 weeks apart, same girl served me both times and remembered me. Waiting for a mesh network deal to use my gift cards

The amount of down right stupid comments in this thread is giving me a headache, hurry up Christmas holidays!

    • -3

      which all phones are

  • +2

Any chance to upgrade to an XL? hmmm

    • Also wondering if anyone knows whether we might see the pixel 2 XL become available for this deal, I have an Samsung S7 now and after getting used to the 5" screen, I've gotten greedy and want bigger.

Great deal, thanks for the post mate, also thanks to some of the comments above (especially imomox3).

Also wondering if anyone here whose bought the phone can tell us their experiences so far? Cheers

      • It'll be a deal in one year's time.

  • +1

My colleague just got that deal too + a 10% off voucher for his next purchase

    • was a $10 off ~ so effectively $110 voucher

  • are these phones locked to telstra or is that not a thing these days?

    • Unlocked

      • Thanks mate

  • +2

so tempted… oh its not XL..16:9 phone overpriced

  • +3

I hate that it doesn't allow storgae cards expansion.

    • I hate that phones these days are trying to copy crapple

  • +1

this is the first phone I even cannot get a proper screen protector on the market…

    • +1

Yup I am in the same boat. It has been a month now and I just caved and got a crap plastic one from eBay. Accessory support alone will make me chose my next future phone more carefully.

    • +2

You mean Galaxy S8/Note 8, iPhones are horrible.

    • +1

      Here we go…

    • Why would I consider a $1600 phone (just the phone) … great question. The question is why wouldnt you consider this deal and get 2 years of service + a great phone for $1440.

      • +1

        1080 is more than enough

    • This comment is very average compared to the other comments in this thread, not sure why people would even consider it when the pixel 2 is already out.

      • Have you been reading reviews of the Pixel phones … ?

  • So Confirming total cost for PHONE and CALLS\TXT and 15GB DATA a month is $1416 over 24months?
Currently $999 for phone outright so calls\data( 15GB cost $17.38 a month unlimited?

Thats not taking into consideration the $100 Jbhifi Gift card!

    • +1

yeah kind of but if you dont need the phone and trying to sell it, you will get less than that. ebay fees, lowballers, etc

      • prob 750-800 + effort

        • prob 750 to 800 + effort - ebay fees

        • @Brianqpr: too may lowballers and time waster there if selling mobile phone.

        • @dragonindespair: You do get a bit of that but they are easily ignored (or some fun can be had with sarcastic responses), there's no selling fees and paypal can be used. I've had some good outcomes on there.

      • Doubt anyone would pay $999 for a Pixel 2 at this time of the year.. new phones are just around the corner

      • Gumtree has heaps of Pixel 2 for sale ranging from $800 upwards so if you don't really need it you may need to pass about this deal

  • Im really going to have to go into a JB store and look at the Pixel phone. I want a new phone but kind of had my eyes on the Essential phone but these deals are getting hard to resist.

    • +1

Essential phone has a terrible camera and it lags too. Pixel 2 right now has the best camera on the market. Essential's isn't even as good as Galaxy S6, a 2 generation old Samsung phone, which admittedly had a pretty good camera for its time.

Updates improved it a bit but its nowhere near a Pixel.

      • Yeh but the pixel 2 is just a tad ugly… and the pixel 2 XL is in the same price range of the iphone x

  • +1

Just called Telstra and signed up for the $59/Month Family & Friends package with a Free Google Pixel 2 on a 24 month contract. I couldn't do it online or via chat.

The guy said they had plenty of Pixel2's in all three colours in stock.

    hope this helps.

    • +21

Think you dropped $100 on the ground back there, Sir.

    • Did you call a store?

  • +1

Can anyone confirm whether a similar deal exists for the Pixel XL 2?

    • No Deal on this $59/month for the Pixel2-XL when I called Telstra 2 hours ago, Only the Pixel2 (Non-XL).

    • Yeah, so do I, need either Pixel XL 2 with Telstra or iPhone 8 Plus with Optus!!!

  • +8

My wife wanted this phone and was on Telstra, but I got her to get the S8 with the Optus/HN deal.

I will not tell her about this deal.

    • Hope she's not on OzB too =)

    • +17

Or you can send her to me and I'll give her the XL

      • XL Eneloop!!!WOW

      • +2

@eneloop she might cost you more in the long run…..

      • +5

Your eneloops must be D sized

      • damn son!!!

  • Let's hope I can get this tomorrow as I can't get to one today :(

  • It seems that google home mini is giveaway gift for 2017

I got mine free from Woolworths

    • May I know how, thanks…

  • good thing i snapped up the pixel 2 plan yesterday while i could, looks like the url no longer works

just to recap, the main family and friends url is:
    https://www.telstra.com.au/latest-offers/employee-family-fri…

It still shows the pixel 2 as an option, however when you click on it the page says:

"Oops. We can't connect you with that page
Usually we're great at connecting, but not this time.
We'll try harder - but, in the meantime, we suggest you head back to the mobiles with plans home page"

the direct url to buy the pixel 2 is:
    https://onlineshop.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/plans/buy/ts…

as others have mentioned, try and sign up in store in a jb hifi as you can get a cash gift voucher\card which you dont get when signing up from telstra online

    • How do you prove youre a friend/family of a Telstra staff?

      • you dont need to, thats pretty much just the name of the offer. ive signed up 2 devices now and no questions asked.

  • If you are successful going through JB with a recontract from the $49 20GB plan to this offer, would you be able to get the bonus 5GB data if I have other Telstra services?

    • That should be a yes, as I believe that is a Telstra thing specifically. I've seen it come up in the prompts to chat on the Telstra page.

      • Probably didn't explain it properly. I meant would JB be able to offer the extra 5GB or only Telstra?

  • Pixel 2 is back on the Telstra page - but the link goes to the S8. Again.

  • +3

Good deal but JB Enex in Perth won't let you take the phone until the port is finished & current wait time is up to 3 days! What a joke.

    • Any other phones on this deal other than the pixel 2?

      • Samsung S8 and some old iPhones

        • Including the google home mini and the $100 voucher?

It probably has come up, but are telstra prepaid customers counted as existing so would need to port out before attempting to get this?

        • @xitrapharlax: The Home Mini is attached to the Pixel 2. Like, literally attached inside some shrink wrap.

        • @Munki: Ah right. Thanks for that.

    • Same experience with me in Brisbane. Apparently they've had this issue since around 6pm Tuesday…

    • JB in Cranbourne, I had to go back the following day. Apparently Telstra's systems are really slow at the moment, it's not JB's fault.

  • +1

    So just to understand this,
The "friends and family" plan is available to walk-in customers at JB Hifi.
In addition to this, JB is offering a $100 JB voucher to people taking up new Telstra contracts? Even if you are an existing Telstra customer (out of contract)?

    • Correct.
And even if you are still in contract. Just did it, and was still under contract until next August. No early cancellation - current contract cost was same as the new one. YMMV.

Guy beside me did the same thing, but was out of contract.

      Both with Telstra.

Walk in, walk out with phone + home mini. Great deal.

    $59 a month. No Deal
    $49 a month. Deal

    Is it possible?
