Surface Pro 2017 m3 $998, i5 from $1197 - $200+ off @ JB Hi-Fi

220

Hi there, this is my first time posting so If you can give me any help that would be appreciated.

This deal isn’t as good as the Harvey Norman one here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/349569

However, when you buy 15% off JB Hi-Fi gift cards (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/350140) it brings the price down a bit. Note that you can only use 5 gift cards with one purchase though.

Hope this helps someone looking for a cheap surface!

Awesome devices - however find it hard to justify the price especially without a Type Cover and only one USB port.

    • It's all about sale/offer stacking. At Harvey Normans the i5 8gb ram version is $1597. Add a touch cover, pen and sleeve case and you're at 2000. Get 5 mates or family members with amexes that qualified for the harvey norman cashback to pay for it and you get the lot for $1500. About $900 bucks saving on rrp.

    • I love the surface pro line but I agree with the USB port comment, the surface dock is too expensive. Looking forward to when Microsoft finally releases the USB C dongle.

There's a limit of 5 gift cards per online purchase with JB, but you should be able to use the eBay-purchased gift cards (5x $100 @ 15% off) to purchase $500 gift cards, and then in turn use those to purchase your product.

This can obviously be modified to closer fit whichever model you're picking, but drops the base model to $850 (no stylus or type cover).

EDIT: You can get the basic black type cover from Kogan for ~$160 using the same eBay method, or ~$150 from eGlobal (economy shipping is free).

and can buy kogan gift voucher on special too! via the paypal ebay listing mentioned earlier

Yup, that's how I got the figure of $160 for the type cover. ;)

Can I buy it in store( if I understand correctly that only 5 can be used online) with egifts from eBay and stacking it with entertainment books egiftcards?

    • I don’t know what an entertainment books gift card is but I just found out you can use e-gift cards for JB Hi-Fi in Store! Thanks for asking otherwise I wouldn’t have learned that today :)

Sorry scratch that I just read you can’t use an email in store???

The recipient can receive either a physical gift card or an emailed digital version. The gift card will be mailed via registered post and will be required if purchasing in-store. The digital version can be used at our JB Hi-Fi Online website or in-store immediately upon receipt.

  • So I just rang JB Hi-Fi cause their site is so contradictory.

    Found this too-

"Note: You CANNOT use your gift card email to purchase in-store. The actual gift card MUST be presented."

The guy said that you can definitely bring in a digital one on your phone or print it out and bring it in. I think that this sentence must mean you can’t bring the confirmation email you have to show the email that contains the e-gift card.

TLDR; You use gift cards bought online in store.

For those looking to get the i5 128GB model and not needing a Signature type cover and the latest Surface Pen, the bundle option is actually a very good value package.

    $1399
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/tablets/microsof… , which includes:

Microsoft Surface Pro i5 128GB ($1197 if purchased separately)
Surface Pro Type Cover Black colour ($199.95 if purchased separately)
Surface Pen Silver (seems to be the Surface Pro 4 Pen) (~$94 at HN)
    Total ~$1490.95 if purchased separately

    • Would harvey normans price match?

      • +1

I have no idea, but definitely well worth a shot.

It seems like this is the bundle HN has as the equivalent: https://www.harveynorman.com.au/microsoft-surface-pro-i5-4gb…

Online Chat functions should help you check fairly easily.

Confirming the above link is the equivalent, sharing the same "SRFCBNDL-001" model number.

        • ooo thanks!
