  • Thanks for posting. On sale now and only black. Bought one. Hopefully I still get the $100 Amex cashback if I buy through the website?

Can confirm I got the $100 cashback. Getting very cautious in my old age.

  • I was looking to buy Samsung J7 pro for $408 (price match from Mobileciti) for my mum. But now at this price S7 looks tempting. I have the Amex offer still with me but I am after sage advice if J7 pro or a S7 will better for my mum. Her main requirement is for the phone to have Facebook, whatsapp and a decent camera. Is S7 worth the extra moolah or J7 pro?

    • I’d go for S7 edge.

    • I've owned the S7 from launch (March 2016) and it's a great phone. Only tip i can give is to turn off fast charge unless needed as it'll ensure longevity of the battery if you plan on using the phone long term like me. It's also going to receive the 8.0 update too. A sibling of mine has the 2017 j5 pro, in which the j7 pro can only be better as the j5 pro from my short experience is pretty good.

      Some pros and cons are:
The J7 pro has a 3600 mAh battery compare to 3000 on the s7
Idk about the camera for the j7 pro, but the s7 has a magnificent camera, just make sure to buy her a microsd card and to change the camera settings to store the photos on the sd card.
The biggest difference between the 2 is the j7 pro has a bigger screen whereas the s7 is water proof.

Btw this is stuff that's just come out of my mind through brief research both now and prior when assisting my sibling purchase their phone.

  • Thanks for the post, I was looking for a deal on one of these!

  • If u haven't saved Amex, BigW has same for 599 paying with WISH card saves min. of 5%

Officeworks and The Good Guys are now seeking this at $548. I just price matched bringing it down to $448 with the amex offer. Good luck :)

    • Excellent, will be doing the same today.

    • Did the same at HN Auburn and they were happy to price match too. They also said that they still have some stock even though their website says they Auburn store was out. Just a heads up for anyone else thinking about picking one up; probably best to call ahead.

  • Can someone knowledgable give me a quick pro/cons of S7 vs the A5? I value things such as battery life, phone updates/useful life rather than a better camera

    • Here is a spec comparison between the two devices.

Regarding battery life, gsmarena rates the A5 to last longer (A5 has a lower res screen, less power hungry processor while having the same battery capacity as the S7)

Phone updates - Both have or can be upgraded to Nougat (7.0), and should get Oreo but you'll have to wait for confirmation from Samsung. There's always speculation from fan sites and stuff but nothing confirmed yet from an official source. Oreo should be released for Samsung phones early 2018.

S7 has a higher quality camera and should produce better photos, see S7 sameple shots vs A5 sample shots to compare.

So it depends on what your budget is, and what you want to use your phone for. If the camera and phone updates matter to you, getting an S8 for a bit more money ($680 for grey stock) might be worthwhile because the S8 will get one more major upgrade (after Oreo) whereas S7 and A5's support should end at Oreo.

Great, thanks for your reply. I was only really looking at these couple as I still have a $100 amex to spend. I have just also noticed the a5 has been cheaper in the last couple of weeks, looking back I ideally would have gotten HN to price match one of the cheaper prices when they were on and bought it then

        • If you're looking to use your Amex cashback and want the S7, get them to price match Officeworks as they have it for $548 to save you a little more money.

          $548 Officeworks deal

Officeworks also have the Galaxy A5 for $518

Edit: 1 more thing to note - depending on your current device, you may have to buy new cables/car chargers or other accessories that use the phone's USB port if you choose the A5 as it uses the new USB Type-C connector, meaning micro-USB cables are no longer compatible. Not necessarily a bad thing as it is the new standard but something to consider when it comes to accessories.

  • Thanks again. I might try my negotiation skills and see if I can get HN to drop a A5 down closer to prices a couple of weeks ago. I also saw iphone SE is 400 but the A5 looks better to me.
