  • Looks like Dalek.

  • Is this still a good router for the price? It's almost 3 years old now isn't it?

    • Yes this is a great router. Very good wireless speeds and range and highly customisable.

    • Amazing once you install Untangle on it apparently.

      https://www.untangle.com/get-untangle/

      • Apparently?

        • I havent used it myself - but have heard good things about it. This model router is one of the few supported by Untangle (without having to run Untangle on a PC).

      • Wow didn't realise it only allows a single unsecured guest network. Asus has up to 3 secured.

Harvey Norman seems to be having a Linksys router clearance.

The Linksys WRT32X AC3200 Gaming Router looks like a good option. Any other ozbargainers can comment?

    • Yes indeed. Also $198 at Harvey Norman. Would be also free delivery through Shipster.

      • How coincidental ….

        • Yes. It seems often that Harvey Norman would drop a price to match what's on Amazon AU.

Been this price at HN for over a week. 40% off linksys but maybe that doesn't fit your agenda?

        • @hollykryten: or maybe amazon matching Harvey?

        • @wxyz234:

          Maybe

    • Can't speak for that router but their non-gaming AC3200 is supposedly fastest atm. You cannot use third party software on it though and options were limited for advanced users.

The WRT32x is a rebadged WRT3200acm, only difference being the web interface and Qos which automatically gives priority to Killer based lan / Wi-Fi clients.

A word of warning however, the linksys WRT32x/acm are currently having issues with android based devices, likely caused by the Krack updates last November. A fix is in the works, but will take some time according to info on Linksys’ forums.

I currently own the acm variant, which I bought from Amazon US last month.
Haven’t experienced problems, however I do not own any android devices.
      Your mileage may vary.

      • This is happening to TP-Link routers too. Lots of comments on Whirlpool forums. Do your research before purchasing any new router.

        • Thanks which brand currently would you recommend

        • @soyea: Have a read on Whirlpool forums. They have the best source of local knowledge.

  • so I'm tossing up between this and the RT-AC68U.
anyone got points to sway me one way or the other, or even another direction entirely?

  • will there be an improvement in range and network performance if i change my nighthawk r7000 to this?

    • +1

No. R7000 is already pushing the limits in terms of range.

If range is an issue you need to look at adding additional access points.

      • so if i “upgrade” to this router, will i see any sort of network performance improvements then?

        • I don’t see this as an upgrade to the R7000.
          More a sidestep.

R7000 is a good unit with great third party FW support if you want to tinker more.

        • @dbun1:

yea not really. not interesting in tinkering as so many devices at home depend on the router being solid. i am looking to improve performance in terms of range (signal strength) being the top priority (there are still some dead/weak spots in my house) and secondly, to improve performance when my kids are watching ipad streaming, wife watching apple tv streaming, and i am watching youtube all at once.

        • @gnoks:

Dead/weak spots will probably require multiple access points to resolve to ensure maximum coverage in all areas, especially if your R7000 is not centrally locates to begin with.

R7000 should be more than capable of handling multiple used at the same time.

Question is whether you have enough bandwidth to handle all the streaming you mention?

If you are going to use multiple access points to fix your wireless performance then I suggest looking at Ubiquiti stuff to replace your R7000 with a dedicated router + multiple WAPs. This will give you a pretty much bulletproof setup that will handle everything you throw at it.

  • How does it go with NBN? thx

    • You plug it in, then it goes?

      • Unless it's FTTN of course.

        • Then what? You get a modem and then plug that in?

  • I've got a $20 amazon coupon and I needed a new dual band router, going to put my ISP supplied netgear modem/router into bridge mode and connect to this running untangled. Pretty hard to find a better router for the price, thanks!
