  • Not sure if I want to know what the blood pack is for. :S

  • +35

I don't think this should be posted as a bargain. It's intended to reduce HIV transmission for population at increased risk of HIV.

  • +25

This is a targeted charity/advocacy deal for a very specific audience - those that are at increased risk of contracting and spreading HIV. I'm not sure it should be considered a 'bargain', especially since with limited stocks we'll be reducing the number of products that can actually be provided to those in need. In my opinion, should be removed.

  • +24

Agreed, not a deal. The url is endinghiv; it's a charity or organization that's being exploited here. Their items should really go to the people who need them, not people who just want free stuff because it's free.

  • Ordered one for my roomate, his reaction is going to be priceless!
    Bargain!

    • I suspect a lot of packs will be ordered for various people like this.

I can imagine the laughs in the office when these packs turn up to unsuspecting recipients.

  • +2

Now, this is why I signed up for ozbargains…for deals like this!

  • -4

At least the one good thing about this deal is that some people will learn the truth - that the highest risk of HIV infection comes from having unprotected anal sex with a HIV infected man/woman, or sharing a needle with a HIV infected person.

The great myth perpetrated by churches and do-gooders is that unprotected hetero-sexual sex (or lesbian sex) places you at a massive risk of getting AIDS.

Yes there is some chance you will get AIDS if your hetero or lesbian partner already has it, but probability and statistics suggest unprotected hetero sex (particularly non-anal hetero sex and lesbian sex) is at least 3 times safer on average than unprotected male to male anal sex.

The churches don't want you to know this…

    • +3

I'm not sure i follow. Why wouldn't churches want people to think that gay sex and IV drug use could increase risk of aids. Last time i checked they were fairly against both of those things

      • Churches dont like sex before marriage, promiscuity or adultery…

    • +1

I've never heard any churches/do-gooders say this. Proof? Also why would churches try to hide this?
I always thought it was common knowledge homosexual men have highest probability of AIDS.

  • +2

C'mon people why so much hate? Don't be silly use your willy!

  • +3

I had one sent to me by a friend years ago. Didn’t know what it was. I asked my 10yo niece to open the package. She said toy balloons.

  • +23

Sad to see a charity being ozbargained here.
Defrauding a charity for a freebie that is often very cheap here on ozbargain. Neg from me

  • What will the mods do when they wake up?

    • See here

      • Thanks.

  • +4

Thanks for posting TA. This could potentially stop someone from catching a life threatening disease.

Not many deal posts can say that, so you should be proud.

    • +10

Unfortunately, judging from many of the comments, it seems most or all of them will go to people as jokes, and not for people in the target groups they were intended for.

      • +2

I'm sure there are members on a bargain website that are doing it tough who otherwise wouldn't have been aware of this freebie also.

This post is helping endinghiv.org get the message out there to those people.

      • +5

The jocularity is unsurprising but reducing disease risk among OzBargainers is laudable.

        • I think it’s a bit naive to think that this is actually a laudable act, considering this is not ACON’s intention at all.

        • +1

@ihavecentsnotsense: It is reasonable to conjecture they will not all become office balloons.

  • What's the length and nominal width of the condoms?

  • +9

I agree with the sentiment others expressed in that this is a charity and shouldn’t be ozbargained

  • Someone send a pack to Turnbull.

  • +14

    Ozbargaining a charity. Really?

  • -2

Can you specify in your request you only want XL size condoms?

  • +10

Agree this is not a bargain, it’s a charity!!!

    • -2

I got some and I'm going to donate them to my local Salvos.

      • +3

Salvo's are notoriously anti-gay (other than the pedos in their own ranks)

  • -5

All the neggers, you would have a point if gays/trans were impoverished or it was for a third-world country.

But condoms here are easy to obtain, cheap and readily available.

You can even get them for free at sexual health and drug clinics and there are buses that will deliver to you for free.

I bet the majority of the righteous here would have no qualms about taking advantage of a price/product error.

And heteros are also at risk of getting AIDS so spare me the outrage, the more condoms people have the less risk of disease transmission.

That can only be a good thing and it's not taking "limited resources" away from any group.

    • I tend to agree…
This isn't some 3rd world outreach, it's Australia. You'd have to be an absolute idiot to not understand safe sex in this day and age and with the education and resource offered.

  • +23

    Ripping off a charity isn’t a deal.

All you edgelords saying condoms are cheap etc- great, you don’t need this deal then. It’s meant for people (often young/embarrassed by their sexuality) who don’t find getting them so easy. Plus the information packs are of a very real benefit to people who are at risk but wouldn’t get such information unless it came with a freebie, even if they could afford it.

    • +1

It could be good advertising for the organisation (they do not call themselves a charity)

Would you agree, if it brings it to the attention of more people and has the possibility to save even one person, it is a great deal?

      ACON

We’re a New South Wales based health promotion organisation

We’re primarily funded by the NSW Government through the NSW Ministry of Health and our work forms an integral part of the NSW Government’s HIV Strategy.

      https://www.acon.org.au/about-acon/who-we-are/

      • +4

They are a registered charity, see their entry in the Australian Charities Register: https://www.acnc.gov.au/RN52B75Q?ID=39E67DA5-41B8-48DC-A2B6-…

      • +13

Great, Ozbargain can advertise them for free then - problem solved without taking their supplies.

The fact that ACON exists is reasonably well promoted in schools and throughout the state, I think the bigger problem is actually getting people to make contact and order condoms/information. Sure, one person on OzB might see this who wouldn't otherwise, but it is just as (or perhaps more) likely that ACON will not be able to send the pack to someone who needs it because many people on Ozbargain have ordered them unnecessarily. In any case, the many comments bordering on trans or homophobia on here undo a great deal of any benefit that providing these packs to someone might have.

I'm all for promoting ACON but that's not what this deal and many of the commenters are doing.

        • +11

Agreed. And sure, ACON might expect that there would be some that would be joke/prank requests but given how powerful this community can be, it would be pretty discouraging for them to discover that many of the clickthroughs are from a bargain website and they end up reconsidering running this program.

  • +22

    Poor taste ozbargaining a non-profit

  • +19

Poor form of ozbargaining a charity. Neg from me too.

  • Claude's credientials simply don't check out. Claude's being naughty.

MSM is more common than most think, they don't tell their mates but a lot do it for a thrill, power or just experimenting or other reasons. (Worked with related ind briefly) Hiv is still awful despite "swallowing a daily pill"

"iloveclaude.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported. Error code: SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER"

  • +18

I hope this gets taken down.
    Stealing from a charity?!
    Come on, ozbargain.

  • +20

I'm all for Ozbargain's, but not on a charity.

Don't order unless you REALLY think it applies to you folks.

  • +18

No deal. It's targeted to a specific cause and group of people and shouldn't be taken advantage of.

  • +19

So rather than unpublish this non deal the mods delete my post stating it was an inappropriate negative vote. What a joke. This is a NFP charity using raised funds to target high risk populations to minimise the risk of contracting or spreading a serious and life changing STI. The next deal on here may as well be the starlight foundation offering free excursions.

  • +10

Seriously I wonder how certain user accounts get banned for trolling at the drop of the hat, while others troll every day with impunity.

    Ozbargain moderation is biased.

    • Please use the report link for any comments you feel don't meet the commenting guidelines. Let's be respectful and not start conspiracy theories. We don't treat offences differently depending on the user. Feel free to Talk with a Moderator to discuss any issues.

      • +1

Nothing personal Neil but with respect you are one of the mods I am referring to. You and I haven't seen eye to eye for 10 years.

I note that now when a user is kicked to the penalty box, the mod who did it remains anonymous. SO the mod now hides behind the anonymity - so they can carry their personal/religious/whatever grudges without being revealed.

Certain members can post seemingly any comments they like and NEVER get banned/binned/whatever.

Others could post identical comments and find themselves in the penalty box. That is the way it is, just stating the facts. I can see I am not the only user who sees things this way.

Also how you decide something is "Offtopic" is less than consistent. A casual scroll through this thread shows various off-topic comments not collapsed, and others that are arguably on topic collapsed.

I realise there is a certain amount of subjectivity involved in moderation - but honestly some of you guys need to rethink your approach or perhaps stop being mods….

        • You've been banned 3 times. Never by me. :)

However, I'm here as the mouthpiece of moderators. I believe being transparent is important and will respond to queries about moderation.

Certain members can post seemingly any comments they like and NEVER get banned/binned/whatever.

Untrue, untrue, untrue, untrue. Sorry, but our moderators are all paid staff. The real moderation we need to do is make sure deals, forums etc are as clear as possible as well working on things that grow our community. We don't have time for some weird vengeance against certain users NOR distinguish who attacks others. All are dealt in the same way as we have an internal points system.

We're all on the same side here, to look for bargains!

        • +2

If you want to see some bad mods, go visit Whirlpool lol.

        • It is how a comment is written, not the content or message.

Don't be overly aggressive. Don't be abusive. Keep posts on topic.

We need to be kind and supportive. Otherwise graduates looking for which $80k car to invest in won't feel safe to post here and we won't get info on gems like these blood play packs with syringes and sharps box.

We get so few bargains around here now. We need the gem's to keep this site interesting while we wait.

  • +1

Could someone give Neil a call and tell him he has 20 reports to attend to!

    • We've all seen the reports but will need to discuss. We'd rather make the correct decision based on guidelines, precedent and group discussion rather make quick decisions.

      • +13

Come on, Neil. 15 hours and over 4900 clicks isn't exactly what would fall in the quick decision category should a decision be made now. The longer it drags out the more these charity resources are wasted. This is a terrible look. You guys are very quick to remove negative votes stating "this is not a deal" - which (imo) in this scenario should actually be sufficient, given the multiple negative votes preceding the votes outline in more detail why it should not be a deal to Ozbargain a charity, but very slow to make an appropriate decision.

        • 15 hours and over 4900 clicks isn't exactly what would fall in the quick decision category

Sorry it is the weekend and staff are not working, nor do we need to be rushed or bullied into a decision without adequate conversation.

An interim decision has been made. See here.

You guys are very quick to remove negative votes stating "this is not a deal" - w

Yes, that's an easy thing to moderate as it is listed in our guidelines whereas this deal HAS NOT broken any guidelines, thus why it needed to be discussed.

        • +1

          @neil:

Thank you for the interim decision update. I was NOT BULLYING you. I was urging you to take appropriate action to PREVENT a targeted charity initiative being taken for a ride.

Scotty had the right idea back in 2015 by appropriately choosing to unpublish a very similar deal, albeit following their request -
but why even let it get that far? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/159761#comment-2920898

          P.s. was caps lock necessary?

      • OK, fair enough.

I thinks its a legit post as long as it doesn't encourage ozbargain users outside the target group to participate.

The listing just needs to include a line, in either the heading or upper description, that states "the offer is for gay/bi men only".

If an individual (outside of the target group) wants to exploit a charity, let that be on their own conscience.

Edit: ok, looks as if that's just been done.

        • Cheers, that has been done.

  • I'm here for the comments.

    • Want some of my popcorn?

  • I prefer to bareback.

Using a condom detracts dramatically from the sexual experience.

    • I prefer to bareback.

You're not supposed to have sex with horses.

      • +2

Especially as neigh is not consent.

  • +13

This is just wrong.. should not be on Ozbargain as most people would not be the targeted audience.

  • +1

I think you are the Lenovo laptops person. You should stick with those.

  • +13

    Wrong

  • +17

A charity, with limited funds and resources, is not a source for a deal. They'll post out the packs in good faith while Ozbargainers waste them on dumb jokes. Not to mention it's targeted. Neg.

  • +15

As stated by others, this is a charity trying to do a good thing for an at risk part of the community. Don't waste the scarce funding that they have. This should have never been posted…

  • +13

As someone else said, it's like getting a free meal from a shelter by claiming to be homeless. I don't care if you don't understand the nature of the charity or why they're targeting the groups they are; bottom line don't take a charity's handouts by lying about your identity. It's blatantly unethical and this 'deal' is shameful.

  • +8

This really shouldn't be listed as a bargain. It really feels like it's exploiting a charity… :/

  • +14

This has tarnished my view of many users on here taking advantage of a charity.

    • Do you still think highly of me?

      • +4

        Still?

  • +8

    Charity

  • +7

My negative vote was revoked because it was "Inappropriate use of negative vote" when my only comment was "This is not a deal". Obviously MOD believes that this is a deal!.

    • +3

Your comment is specifically included in the exclusions of negative votes, that’s why it would have been removed.

    • Voting Guidelines

      Inappropriate uses of negative vote

You will see the Not a Deal listed there. Please read the guidelines in future.

(Have PMed those who voted for that comment for clarification).

  • +16

Poor form to take advantage of a charity.

  • +11

Not sure if this post is even appropriate for this forum. If you let this sort of a post go unnoticed, it will lead to deterioration of the quality of deals related postings in the future aka facebook.

  • It should have duct tape as part of the package

  • +13

Was seriously tempted to neg when first posted, it is good to see some morals around here.

Only order one if you at least intend on using it. Shame on those ordering it as a joke, this is a charity and HIV is no laughing matter.

  • +12

Pretty shameful post. Reflects poorly on OzBargain.

Anything for votes, popularity and clicks.

  • +12

Its sad to see this is what the ozbargain community has become. Absolutely pathethic. As many have mentioned, this is an intiative not a deal!

  • +11

This needs to be taken down, this is stealing from charity. I am pretty sure any respectable ozbargainer will not take advantage of this so called deal.

  • +13

Shocked and ashamed to be part of a community that would upvote an initiative like this so much.

In general, charities should be given to UNLESS you need to take.

It's like rich people claiming charitable food packages destined for the poor at Christmas time.

    • -1

Shocked and ashamed to be part of a community

      R U OK?

  • +10

    This is wrong

    • +3

Love is love bro, everyone should be regarded as equal.

  • +14

This is distasteful at best. Imagine all the volunteers (most of whom are LGBT+) going to turn up tomorrow and need to pack these kits for people who have given false names and details that they thought were funny. This is outright wrong.

    • This is distasteful at best.

      That's why there's gloves.

  • +9

    Stooping to a new low.

  • +29

Having spent almost a year volunteering at ACON's legal service for HIV positive people a few years ago, I know first hand the people they are attempting to help with this initiative.

This strain on their resources by OzBargain belittles the work ACON does, the work of the many volunteers within their multiple programs, as well as the vulnerable communities they try to assist.

I am disappointed the 'deal' has been up this long.

  • +5

    Charity trying to prevent disease

  • +19

Pretty weak response from the mods (changing the title and adding a small paragraph in the deal). Too little, too late. This deal shouldn’t have been posted and should still be deleted - there will be many who are still going to take advantage of it being on the front page of OzBargain, which isn’t a place to post health initiatives from charity under the guise of a ‘bargain’. Shameful.

      • +2

Exactly. This site has a lot of power when people pile on to deals, and will likely overwhelm this charity. The actions of this site and the mods are disgusting.

        • +1

Clicks are all that counts to OzB.

        • @stormii:

Bullshit, incorrect. Moderation has nothing to do with click counts.

      • No action after 15 hours with several reports and negs. Disappointing

Keep in mind it is the weekend and staff (all moderators) are not here. We have discussed and our response.

  • +7

I am pleased to see that a good portion of ozbargain has a moral compass. I do believe the rules need to be updated so charitiable giveaways are banned, given the known track record of this community "ozbargaining" an item. I understand the rich stay rich by not spending their money, but come on guys, its tax dollars they will need to use to meet the demand, and a service they will not be able to provide because of the overwhelming response.

    • The charity will love it - they'll secure fat pay rises and more funding.
