Yaaaay steak frites here I come!

  • +7

Limited utility this lot. Not easy to make good of these offers. Bistro Guillaume looks to be Sydney only. Captain Cook Cruises/Sealink is Sydney, SA & NT it seems.

    • There’s a Bistro Guillaume at Crown Melbourne (and I assume also at Crown) Perth. Had what seemed like the world’s most expensive pie at the Melbourne one back in June

      • +4

If you have entertainment book or know someone with one you can stack discount ;)

      • +1

There might be one there but this deal specifically notes its at Sydney under where to claim…

        • +3

The Bistro Guillaume offer terms simply say excludes Paddington and down further Australian locations only and excludes online purchases. On my app it shows the Crown venue as my closest to redeem hence it is not SYD only.

        • The manual enrol link shows Perth for me.

        • @OldBugger: If you’ve got location services on, it selects your closest locale.

      • Also looking to use at Melbourne Crown. Keen to hear if it does/doesn't work for people..

    • Captain Cook:

Offer valid in-person and online at participating websites listed at www.captaincook.com.au/amex :

      • Captain Cook Cruises Murray River
      • Captain Cook Cruises Sydney Harbour
      • Captain Cook Cruises Western Australia
      • Kangaroo Island Adventure Tours
      • Kangaroo Island Odysseys
      • SeaLink Kangaroo Island
      • SeaLink Queensland
      • SeaLink Northern Territory
      • SeaLink Rottnest Island
    • EDIT, just found this offer on my other AMEX card too so now I can get $200 off my little trip to KI. Thanks again.

(And Kangaroo Island where I was planning to book, so thanks OP).

I got Luxury Escapes on my Explorer Card.

        Yep same on PE.

    • Thank you. Added to post.

    • EDIT, my wish has been granted on the DJs AMEX. Thanks for alerting me.

(I wish I had rec'd the L.Escapes deal. Anyway I can swing it?)

Hopefully tonester can recommend some wines. :-)

    • +3

On the other hand, I'd like to see winester recommend some tones… :)

      … I'll see myself out..

      • +1

Wait till Australia Day or Valentine Day, definitely more offers from Getwinedirect, combine this with 25% off, thats double deal like before Xmas :)

  • +3

AmEx.. Bring on BP.. been long..

    • +6

BP me app promotion ended in mid-december. Might be a little bit of a wait till the next one.

      • +3

        BPme, good time!!

        • Good times indeed. Some middle aged woman was waiting to use the same pump as me and got pissed off when I went to fill up again. There were plenty of other pumps available, but she just had to pick this one. She came up and complained, I was like meh whatever.

        • @JIMB0:
Maybe it was the only one with diesel?

        • @JIMB0:

There was one station in melbounre that kept giving me technical issue in the app. But other than that, good time!!

        • +5

Good times indeed. Used 15 cards, worth $300 of petrol (had to even get a Jerry Can towards the end of the promo because I had a full tank but 2 cards still left to use). Really good promo, but they need to work on the speed of the app. It can be really slow at times. Also no Velocity points means a lot of us won't use it without a statement credit offer.

        • @forrester: No diesel at this pump.

        • Yeah BPme! Had 6 cards, bit of a game to time when prices low and tank empty in parallel with 7-11 offer. Attendant was either amused or agitated once I when pumped $20 each time.

        • @MathNerd: good stuff! My card ended up not working on the app even when it said it went through. I complained to BP via email and on the phone. In the end they waived my petrol bill! Nearly $100 free petrol!!

        • @bullettime: wow that's insane! So how did you end up paying each time the app stuffed up? Just in store? Did you contact AmEx at any time?
I had the app crash on me mid-fill once, so had to pay in store and then it was a chasing game, trying to chase AmEx for cashback. Understandably not their fault though, so I understand their hesitance to just give away $10.

        • @MathNerd: I only had one card and I filled a full tank and paid via Bpme. The payment went through or at least I thought it did then i got a message saying I need to contact amex to authorise the payment. Went to the store to pay as I assumed it wasn't paid but the clerk said it went through, so I said OK. Long story short i kept getting messages from BP even after I called them. So I emailed them twice saying I won't pay till.I had a guarantee that I would get my $10 back from them. 2 days later messages stopped and it ended there.

        • @bullettime: Ah, fair enough. They probably put the case in the "too hard for the technical team" basket lol!
Glad to see you got the free fuel haha!

  • +4

Thanks for going to the trouble to collate these. I'm sure they'll be useful for someone…

  • Bank issued cards not eligible? Or does anyone have a manual link?
No Luxury Escapes or Bistro Guillaume on my Amex Essential

  • Is amex essential qualify for statement credit? Anyone know how they assess application for amex essential?

    • +6

Have you not applied for one since you asked back in December 2016 i.e. over a year ago? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/279622

      • +6

        What a memory!

      • No I haven't.. I should be Ashamed of my self. To be ozbargainer.. Do they assess by income only? What if I work partime? Or a student etc.

        • You have to meet the minimum income needed to apply for the card

        • @kerfuffle:

Do they actually check your income? If I lie, will they find out?

        • @Jugg.Judy: You have to supply your employer's phone number and possibly payslips. If you can't meet the minimum income for a basic Amex like the Essential, then Amex isn't for you …

        • @kerfuffle: never have credit card before, happy with my debt card, but there are so many amex deals, regarding employers number, did you give employer heads up and let them know, or just give number to amex?

        • +1

@Jugg.Judy: Why would you tell your employer that you're applying for a credit card? :/

        • @kerfuffle: because you giving amex employer number, I assume they going to call them?

        • +4

@Jugg.Judy: They would call to make sure that the information you provide is truthful and accurate i.e. that you work for them

If you have to ask this many questions about opening a credit card without doing your own research, then you clearly aren't ready to open one …

    • +4

It's fairly difficult to receive a credit into your AMEX statement if you do not possess an AMEX card.

  • +1

is there manual link for Luxury Escapes ?

  • +4

Thanks OP. Good deals but none suitable for myself. Will leave the registration spots open for those that will use them.

  • +4

    Thanks for posting Ninja

But quite underwhelming this run of offers

    • Captain Cook Cruises/Sealink looks popular.

      • 5,000 cards is nothing when you're talking about an army of professionals hungry for cashback!

        • +1

They must be hungry because Bistro Guillaume is now maxed out.

        • +2

@forumninja: Haha, there's probably quite a few who register for every offer but don't use all. I've done that once and felt horrible, as I'd hate that someone in need of the offer is missing out.
Wow 10,000 cards really did get registered quickly!

  • SeaLink gone :-(

  • Anyone been to Bistro Guillaume? How's the food?

    • +2

      The usual fine dining.
So if other fine dining places are to go by, it'll be tasty but in very small quantities. So don't go there to satisfy hunger, go there to treat your tastebuds to more 'premium' flavours.
Shop Small is the offer you'd be using to treat hunger, by finding small local shops that serve you a whole meal for $20.

      • +1

Cheers. So I guess worth going to impress the date

    • +2

It's French food. Expensive French food (despite the Bistro in the name). I had an oxtail pie last time I was there; it was delicious but what MathNerd says is very true

    • They used to, and still have, this lunch and pre-theatre 2-courses ($55) or 3-courses ($65) menus.
In the past, it was quite good, as you could pretty much choose the courses from the a la carte menu. However, it seems now they have pre-defined set menus - which reduce the flexibility even further.

  • +1

Don't forget to stack Bistro G with Entertainment Book!

  • A silly question sorry.
Is there any difference between Amex statement credits and Amex offers?
I have saved Woolworths $10 cashback offer but can’t see any of these offers on Amex AU app. I have an Essential card.

    • +1

If you are a very new user, it is possible that you have missed this round of offers going to your card. But if there are manual enrollment links, you can still enrol for them.

  • scored ~500+ points thanks to a 1 day avis rental :D
I thought it would be the normal 2ppd + 1ppd bonus, but its actually 3ppd bonus so I earnt a total of 5ppd on the ~$120 transaction :D
