  • The new Xiaomi thermostat does not require a bridge as far as I know, just optional if you want to control other products based on the temperature.

    • It will work as a stand-alone without the bridge - I'll re-word it, it's required for the remote monitoring for it.

      • No, I'm pretty sure it's not required for remote monitoring. I'm pretty sure the device has a built-in WiFi module. There is another thermostat by Xiaomi that does require the bridge, but this one doesn't. You connect to the unit via Bluetooth, then use the Xiaomi app to send it your wifi details and then it connects to your wifi and you can monitor it via the app. That's how other Xiaomi products work. Bridge is only required if you want it to control other products.

Depends if you're trying to tie it into an existing xiaomi ecosystem.
This video covers it pretty well:

        • @burkey:

"Wi-Fi enable thermostat allows for remote access via smartphone, tablet or computer"

This is in the description for the same thermostat on the gearbest page. I can't link to it sorry, OzBargain won't let me. I'm pretty sure this device is standalone, but I could be wrong.

        • @Andweeb: You can use the Thermostat via Bluetooth. But that is only useful if you're in Bluetooth range.
If you want alerts, remote control, etc, you need a gateway like this.
This image on the Thermostat description page notes that:

        • @burkey:

You're right, I confirmed with a Store Rep. It has no built-in wifi, even though it's described as "Wi-Fi enable thermostat" … pretty false advertising on their behalf IMO. Sorry for the confusion. I cant edit my earlier comments to correct them.

        • @Andweeb: All good man - I think it'd probably just a bad translation on the site.
I think the translation was trying to make the point that it can be used on Wireless if you have the Bluetooth-WiFi Gateway.

Hopefully you got to grab one when the code was valid still!

  • Thanks OP.. Bought one

Common sense and Xiaomi certainly so that always go hand in hand. In what world would you think that making a bed side table lamp be a bridge device for a thermostat? Especially when they already have gateway devices.

    • Saves you purchasing a separate unit??

    • There will be a few devices with the bluetooth-wifi bridges coming out - I think that is the only reason they made the second gen of this.
I think the only other device with this bridge right now is the Aqara camera.

  • done. Thanks!

  • How does the Bluetooth work on this? I connected it with Bluetooth but connection won't work if wlan connection is not present as well. If I turn wireless off on the phone and try to configure it to use bluetooth, it wont find it until I also have wireless on. How do you set it up so that someone that does not have wireless or even an internet service, control this light with just the phone app via Bluetooth? Is that config actually supported?

  • Good job OP!

Can I use Google home to control it?

    • +1

I can't answer for certain - Yeelights are integrated to Google Home via the Yeelight app, and I can see that you can add this in the Yeelight App (both the first and second gen versions of this).
      So it's likely it would.

      • In theory, it should be recognised

      • Nice find! :)

  • Jumped on it. Thanks OP

  • Not much difference to the 1st gen apart from wifi, hopefully there will be a deal on the older gen !

  • Would you know of a way to fix these on the wall instead on being placed on the table? Not sure if the base is separable and can be screwed through into the wall?

    • Unfortunately they are connected/one piece, so I don't think this would work. You also have the issue of getting power to it.
The Candela https://www.gearbest.com/table-lamps/pp_946803.html would get around the power issue (it's has a battery), but you'd still have a mounting issue, unless you had a small shelf or something to sit it on.

      • I can solve the power issue.
        Just struggling with mounting.
Was hoping the base will unscrew or come off somehow. Or maybe a decent looking bracket……

  • Expired already? "The Code you entered is not for this product."

    • Same for me :(

    • I'll mark it expired - it was only a limited run of 40 from the Gearbest rep.

Don’t trust xiaomi products that may have privacy leak risks.

But your lighting habits will be protected behind the Great Firewall of China

  • Thanks OP, but unfortunately I missed out :(

  • I'm surprised this lasted as long as it did.
Thought it would've expired alot earlier.
Did anybody else go back to the thermostat deal and buy that after buying this?
    I did. =)

    • +1

I got the Thermostat first, then asked the rep for a code on one of these! :D

  • More stock at a slightly on this deal here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/354866

  • Can you ask for more stock OP from the GB rep please ?

    • Heya,
