This is the cheapest price anywhere for this camera.

    • +3

Not by much however it is currently the best price. I'd focus more on providing information to users who already have some Xiaomi sensor products to know what this camera offers and how it differs from ordinary IP cameras.

  • +2

Genuine question: how does it compare to the xiaomi xiaofang ip camera?

    • +7

Here's a good video that compares all the current xiaomi smart cameras: https://youtu.be/zwBZh1LCpmI

      • +3

Was just going to post that video…

Also saw that their price on the Xiaomi Dafang 1080P Camera was pretty good atm at AU$27.95 US$20.92

        • they have had them a fair bit cheaper on the past. In fact maybe we should ask the rep for a deal, I definitely need one.

      • +3

TLDW version for those of us at work?

        • -5

Is being at work code for being lazy?

        • +1

@Lorindor: Are you for real? You've obviously never worked at a place where its inappropriate to be watching gadget review videos… No need to be snappy

        • -3

          @aNoPHeLeS:

So just wait until you get home?

If you've got time to be on OzBargain, you can watch a review.

        • +3

@Lorindor: Ozbargain is by definition a place where people help each other out, save each other time by sharing the bargains we come across. You don't go around saying 'look up the bargain for yourself'. Please don't bite people's head off for asking for help. Keep this community a generous place.

        • @aNoPHeLeS: Just park the truck, turn off the engine and then watch the video.

        • @aNoPHeLeS:

A lot of members take advantage of that by asking others to do the leg work for them.

I have no problem answering genuine questions and assisting others with their purchasing but all it comes down to is pure lazyness most of the time.

        • +4

@PJC: I was only joking. I'm sure he steers well with his knees. OK I'll get my coat …

        • +2

          @PJC:
Or project video onto windscreen with a heads up display ;)

        • +1

@ozzpete: Yeah, how could that possibly be distracting?

    • Depends if you need the gateway function

  • +3

OK, have bought one. Thanks Sky

  • Is there any benefit to having two gateways?

Is it detrimental to have two?

    • +2

The benefit would be being able to space them out for wider sensor spread, aswell as being able to have more sensors synced in one system. The original hub can hold 30 devices, I imagine this would be similar

      • Does the Mi Home app support multiple gateways?

      • Dumb question, but can devices connected to one gateway control devices connected to another gateway? e.g. I have a motion sensor currently connected to my gateway that controls the lights. Would I be able to still control my lights AND this camera with the same motion sensor without having to reconnect my lights to the gateway on this camera?

        • +2

I have two Gateways (one on each floor) and you can set up rules that go across gateways. e.g. I set up the sensor at the entrance to make both Gateways play a chime. I have also configured a button to play a sound on both gateways.

        • @merill: Thanks, that's all I need to know!

  • Bear in mind that this has a very wide angle lens. Maybe suitable/unsuitable for some.

    • +2

Good if you want to see whole room in one view

    • +1

The camera has a wide 180-degree field of view and records in 1080p (audio too). It allows storage to a micro SD card or cloud. Data is encrypted in transmission and requires two-way identity identification to ensure the privacy of your videos.

      • +1

requires two-way identity identification to ensure the privacy of your videos.

How does it do this? I assume you mean Two Factor authentication?

        • I believe it is a fairly new product from Aqara (joining other Xiaomi cameras in the market), I couldn't find more info and there aren't any in-depth reviews on youtube (only unboxing ones).

I reckon the security feature would likely be 2FA too.

        • +1

I read this as requiring secure SSL connection between client and server

        • +1

@taylorn8r: yep you'd expect (or hope) they use HLS.

  • Is there geo restrictions with this camera?

    • +1

I don't think so. Just bought on this deal so I haven't had the opportunity to play around.

    • Not long before they are going to do geo restrictions on this, that's what happened to Xiaofang. These were designed for their domestic market like xiaofang, Sooner it will become a piece of toy then in the bin. Lol

  • Are there any cheap motion detection cameras that use a sim card?

    • +1

I know some trailcams do but they are usually $200 plus.
Would be interested in any cheaper ones myself.

  • Can it save to a NAS?

  • Bought one but price is $39.

  • +3

Does anyone know if the gateway on this camera will work with Home Assistant?

    • +2

I think it's not yet supported. Going by previous Aqara products on this list this camera is likely to be supported.

The Dafang isn't though. There are tutorials on how to hack it.

      • Sky Blu, I googled a bit and cannot find any hacks for the Dafang to use it with HASS. Can you point me to any solutions, please? I have the Dafang and like it a lot, but cannot get it into the HA environment.

        • +1

Google for fanghacks and home assistant.
There are quite a few links there which should help lead you in the right direction.

    • +1

In the meantime you could do some ghetto automation using a smart plug to control on/off. Linking on/off to presence detection would improve its 'smartness'

  • Thanks - grabbed one

Question - does anyone know is there an easy way to "move" devices between multiple gateways in the house (i.e. have them change their association of which gateway they are connected to) - other than removing them manually from one gateway and adding to another? I'm also running Home Assistant so will I have to manually remove and re-add the sensors/etc there if they've changed which gateway they are attached to?

I have one gateway now but have another on order - plus this new camera which is also a gateway - and so plan to distribute the gateways around the house for better coverage (two of my current smart plugs are a long way from my current gateway and sometimes disconnect)

  • I was planning to get one for monitoring from my window but the max operating temp of 40C is a deal breaker esp with the recent above 40C temp in Sydney ;( does anyone know if the electronics just fry when it hits 42C ?

    • Well I haven't had mine fried yet (fingers crossed) live out in the Liverpool area so gets pretty hot the 40 degree Max temp is another reason why I didn't buy it back in November. Hence why I'm using the yi home camera 2 to do the monitoring around the house

      • +1

I had one of the Dafang ones working in 42 degree heat the other day. It is also rated to 40 degrees but worked, and continues to work, fine.

  • +1

Had I know this cam comes integrated with Gateway, I wouldn't have bought the Gateway on its own.

    • I took it as it connects with the existing Gateway as with the other zigbee's, but interpreting it differently maybe zigbee's can connect directly to the camera gateway instead. If this is the case, can these communicate with other devices connected through the standard gateway & vice versa.

And if it can act as a gateway, im sure its very limited to the number of supported devices/total connected devices

      • I took it as it connects with the existing Gateway as with the other zigbee's

But then it states "It has a gateway function, which allows you to not only view home dynamic remotely but also can be connected with Mijia body/door/window sensor, wall switch and other ZigBee equipment". My interpretation to it is, it is the Gateway and can replace the 1 round Gateway that most of us have. The only way to test is for someone to report back and see if it's working with all the Xiaomi switches and sensors.

And if it can act as a gateway, im sure its very limited to the number of supported devices/total connected devices

Hmmm the 'normal' gateway is up to 30 devices right? so I assume the same?

        • This is what I really want to know, I want a IP camera, but i also want a gateway.
2 in 1 would be amazing.

          If anyone can answer.. please

        • ip camera + gateway ~= $36
          gateway ~= $25

maybe? makes the ip camera a very cheap option/alternative/deal if thats the case. The detail could always have been lost in translation, when the deliveries start arriving we will soon know :)

        • @v00d00 AU:
Just ordered a gateway this morning and trying to cancel but no response from gearbest….has anyone had any success cancelling prior to shipping with them?

Do I order this in the hopes that it's 2 in 1? Lol

        • @KupoHo:

Yeh I'm probably trying to be optimistic seeing as thought I just bought one the other day too haha.

Good luck, can always get both and strategically placed the other gateway to improve range/device #

      • I would rather go for Original Xiaomi Mi Smart WiFi Remote Control Multi-functional Router 16 Million RGB Lights for USD 26.99 as I can fix it in the bedroom.

        • But if your wanting a security camera anyway, that's one less device required, unless ofc you actually want the gateway in your bedroom

    • I would not expect this camera to have an inbuilt gateway, rather it has the ability to connect to the gateway. Why would Xioami lose sales on gateways. (I could be wrong though)

EDIT: Looking at the picture though it does seem to portray that it does communicate directly with the sensors of the gateway…Very confusing

      • Had a look on Banggood it states in red that this is indeed a gateway and a camera!

      • So bad sales strategy by Xiaomi?

  • +3

Too risky with xiaomi products made specifically for china region, all the new cameras seem to be geoblocked. Purchase at your own risk.

    • +6

Considering this one is made by Aqara (not Xiaomi) you should be in the clear.

      • I thought Xiaomi is Aqara and Aqara is Xiaomi?

        • +2

Lumi make smart home products under their own brand (Aqara) and for Xiaomi's Mijia brand.

        • @Clear: but it seems these 2 brands are compatible with each other … taking example of Xiaomi Smart Home Aqara Human Body Sensor.

        • +2

@tempura: Correct. Xiaomi actually pump money into Lumi and have included them in the ecosystem. Literally the reason why the Xiaomi range is so diverse.

  • +5

This might be an interest to others. A PDF from Aqara with examples of what to use the camera and other sensors for. Looks like there is a vibration sensor we've yet to see.

    http://cdn.cnbj2.fds.api.mi-img.com/cdn/aqara/documents/Aqar…

    • +3

Thanks Clear! I'll put this in the main post.

    • +1

      Well done.

    • Hmm, it says in the brochure that the camera is 720p?

      • +1

Definitely 1080p. PDF seems to have some early prototypes in it.

  • Does anyone know if this camera offer free rolling unlimited camera footage storage like arlo/netgear?

  • Comes up as $43

    • Don't forget to apply the coupon at checkout.
I got it for $38.74 shipped, paid using PayPal.

      • i must be a massive tard. can't see anywhere to apply a coupon.

        • Right at the very bottom of the page

        • @Remorhaz:
          i just have this
"We automatically apply all eligible promotions to offer you the lowest possible price."

          edit.
          found it
          thanks.

          $36.39 with commonwealth

        • @mkerr:
Where did you find the option? I don’t see it. I even searched for promo and coupon on the page and I don’t see it

        • @Harryxx:
yeah, i was doing the same.
          it's crazy small text
          in the "proceed to checkout"
there's a box called payment options
below the row of visa / mastercard icons

        • @mkerr:

Thanks for the help all…boy it certainly is discreet!

        • @havebeerbelywillsumo:
          Thanks guys, ordered for $37

  • Does this only work on Main land china server? as I have my yeelights on Singapore server
Also does it link with google home?

    • +1

It links straight back to Chinese Communist Party HQ, so they can watch you ;-)

I found the permissions that the Xiaomi apps require on Android pretty invasive.

There might be a way to bypass using their app to control the camera, though.

      • Invasive because they have dozens of devices that would take advantage of all the different permissions.

  • Any cameras that work with Alexa and fire TV?

  • getting $43 AUD / $32 USD

  • Can I link this to my existing Hikvision cameras via Milestone XProtect??

The fisheye could be a downside TBH too…

  • +1

according to the review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zwBZh1LCpmI

This is the second best recommended xiaomi camera across the range atm.

  • Are you able to link to a Google home?

    • +1

I don't think it's possible, at least for this camera yet.

    • What do you want to say to GH? Hey Google, watch me dance?

      • Hey Google tell me who's at the door.

        • +1

Sorry I don't understand, I am still learning

  • Are these region locked to Mainland China like Xiaofangs are? Haven't successfully applied fanghacks :(

  • I loved my first Xiaomi Mi Camera, second one I received yesterday is region locked to China though. I would be careful purchasing their cameras going forwards.

  • +1

Having bought one (thanks OP) only now I've thought….what powers this thing? Internal battery, USB charged?

    • +1

      Buy now worry later lol

  • Wasn't able to checkout as it wouldn't accept my shipping address for some reason.

Tried a parcel locker and normal house address. It wouldn't accept either. Guess i'm going without.
