"Huakko 936" Soldering Station - Two Units For $19.43 Incl Local Shipping @ echoii_mall on eBay

1212

Get two "Huakko 936" soldering stations for total of $19.43 delivered from local stock in a "buy 1, get 1 at 50% off" deal from power seller echoii_mall on ebay.

I call that a bargain at under $10 each if you split the purchase with a mate. The seller claims it is local stock with delivery in about 7-10 days. Units are described as 220V, but should be OK for 240V because the heating element is thermostatically controlled. The listing shows an overseas mains plug so you might need an adapter, although local stock could have an AU plug so it's worth a punt. These irons are a rip-off of the older style Hakko units and will take Hakko tips. You often see these branded as "Yihua 936".

If you only want one, the single unit price is $12.95 delivered from this seller, or $10.99 from new seller aigodeal who has a feedback rating of only 3 so far.

It's hard to understand how anyone makes money on these. The last time I bought one was from Hobby King for about $25. Judging by other prices of locally stocked Chinesium on ebay, I think stuff is now coming in from China in containers in bulk for local redistribution.

      • Good point - I'll take it apart later to see. I've watched a video or two of reviews of the cheap soldering irons hence opting for an earthed one but that'll be a moot point if it's not actually earthed.

        • No need to take it apart just use a multimeter.

      • earth pin has continuity/resistance to the metal around the tip holder?

        Thats not how it works.

My AU-approved solder station has earthed metal case inside a plastic cover,
but high-impedance to the metal tip.

The heating elements on these are low-voltage (24VAC) so no need.

        • The solder iron linked by OneJay is a different one than this listing. It doesn't have a station, but temperature control is on the handle itself.

I also have one like his bought from JayCar years ago, and the metal sleeve around the tip has continuity to ground with very little resistance.

        • @c0balt:
          Ah, sorry.
I'd be shocked if those transformerless solder pens do not have an earthed tip. Pun intended.

You'll notice the aliexpress one has a chinese 3-pin plug (inverted australian) and they only bother with those when they are planning on using the earth. Of course no guarantee that it was assembled properly.

  • I have two rcd's in my home and i use a rcd powerboard for my electronics so i'll take the risk. i have used some faulty equipment over the years ( (studio equipment and guitar amplifiers ) and still around to tell my tales.

i bought one of each for my hobby shed.

Besides I thought these things were stepped down DC voltages running on internal, isolated secondary transformers past the case.

    • Your RCD’s won’t help you if the neutral link is damaged, there is no earth and you become the return for active.

      • +1

True but that's a risk with nearly all rcds. In a hazard situation I would have to have the neutral floating, the active breaking down to case, a non existent earth and enough of a voltage to kill me.

More probable to get assaulted by a leprechaun.

        • -1

Wrong. All you need is two faulty pieces of equipment.

One could have the case connected to neutral, the other have a fault connecting the case to active.

Having case connected to neutral won't normally be detected, because in the Australian Mains-Earth-Neutral electrical system, neutral and ground should be at the same potential.

        • @Russ:

So now we've added another piece of faulty equipment to the hazardous probability scale.

More chance to be tagged slapped by two pissed off leprechauns.

To be sure to be sure.

        • @nuno:
I'm guessing you have never worked in the electrical industry. You learn to be careful, and follow the rules exactly. There's a reason why Australia has the safest mains system in the world.

What you are advocating, ignoring earths and depending on rcds, is the current-day situation in the USA, where they have a much higher rate of death from electrocution. This is despite the USA having a much lower mains voltage (110V).

        • @Russ:

I work in automation and risk management where experience has no system or industry standard is infallible.

I have no doubt that AU standards are amongst the best in the world and according to some google voo, up there with EU.

I'll continue using my rcds as its saved myself and my family members from a few mishaps. This is in mainaland Europe where domestic rcds where in use well before they hit the Australian market.

          Diddly potatoes.

    Hello friend,

I am writing here with all my sincereness to say sorry to you .

I was informed that 4 pcs of items you bought are out of stock now because they sell very quickly since yesterday, and all of our stocks had been sold out shortly, quite sorry about this .

May I know if it is possible that you buy it again from others? I can cancel this order and issue you the full refund promptly . Is this fine?

if you would like to buy something from us next time, we would like to offer you 5% discount for your next order, is it okay for you?

Waiting for your early reply and hope you could kindly understand it .

Sorry for all the inconvenience caused .

    Thank you and best regards.

    • Classic Chinese seller template. We're all friends here :P

… please send $1 to Happy Dude ….

  • Same Same, ordered right after this was posted and got the same reply as mady123.

    • I only ordered two, but mine have shipped already.

      • I also got a shipping notification about an hour ago for 1 soldering station and 1 hot air station, bought together.

EDIT - I just got the email saying they are out of stock, ya think they would figure that out before sending shipping notifications..

    • 10! What were you going to do with so many?

      • Teaching I'd guess. Either that or he does a lot of soldering and it's cheaper to buy $10 units and throw them out than worry about replacing things.

    • I ordered one - got sent three messages.

      • Same thing happened with me. Received shipping notification for the soldering iron and heat gun but then received message saying out of stock.
Asked why I received the shipping notification then was told it was shipped from another AU warehouse so to ignore the refund message

  • Great price if anyone got it (doesn't look it?)

I paid about $30 for my Hakko clone, a Yihua 936. Mine has an earth connector though (no idea if it's actually connected) and for people going off the pictures, mine didn't match the eBay picture I bought from except for the better. The picture of my item had a hard-wired iron to the transformer, but the one I got is the typical clone one with a detachable iron - handy if it's just the iron that dies.

  • Should Of left My Negative vote……

  • I got cancelled too, via four (?!) eBay messages, but not before receiving a shipped notification. Hmmm

    • I got six. Guess it was a pricing error. Those shipped notifications are probably just automated messages that have nothing to do with the item actually being shipped.

  • Just got advise that it is out of stock and they will refund.

  • out of stock my arse.
    Obviously a pricing error.

  • +2

Right, OP got shafted as well. Like the others I got the same message saying goods were shipped and I also received positive feedback from the seller. A few hours later I got the sucky message from my "friend" saying they're out of stock. Because they seem be asking me if it is OK to cancel the order and issue a refund I have told them to shove it and threatened to report the matter if they didn't honor the transaction. I doubt that will get me anywhere. Can I neg my own post? Fark. By the way, it was a different seller for the hot air gun that I listed by itself - did anyone have better luck with that? If you check out the purchase history on that one you'll see how the sales went ballistic after my post.

    • Same seller, different accounts.

I ordered 2 of the hot air guns, they got shipped then cancelled like everyone else.

Price has gone up to $40, but no stock.

    • +1

Haha, these things happen. Thanks for posting it anyway. :)

  • Out of stock although i order it early , straight away after posting

    • Same.

  • +2

It is not out of stock, the seller just wont honor the ebay sale system….

  • Did anyone get the shipping confirmation but not the out of stock message??

    • If the OP didn't, then I doubt anyone would.

  • Interesting. I bought one of each and received shipping confirmation followed by 3 'sorry - out of stock' emails. I obviously replied telling them to shove it. Their response was that the shipping confirmation is correct. Apparently, both items have been shipped from a different warehouse. I'll keep you updated…

    • Same with me.

      Hello dear ,

Sorry , please just igmore my last wrong email .
We shipped it from another warehouse in AU .
      Thank you .

      Best regards ,

  • Don't get out the pitchforks yet folks!

    Just got this message:

    hello,dear customer
    Good news,
there is a new patch stock has been arrived our warehouse just now.
so just ignore the previous message.
don't worry, all is normal, your item will ship as soon as possible.
it takes 3-7 days to arrive you.
if you have any other questions, you are free to tell us.
    best regards

I only ordered the 858D air guns, (got enough soldering irons) so you other folk might be SOL.

    • FFS. I just got an out of office reply

    • Didn't work for me. I refused to cancel and they replied just now that it was sold out.

      • Didn't work for me.

        Me neither!

        Hello friend,
I am writing here with all my sincereness to say sorry to you .
I was informed that item you bought is out of stock now…

        Pitchforks at dawn it is!

(I did notice there was no tracking number…)

  • So annoying. Bought 1 pretty early on,get told no stock.
I will tell them I'll wait months as I'm not in a rush see what happens.

  • Just seen the messages that everyone else has left. I have refused to cancel.

If they don't go through with the orders make sure you leave negative feedback.

This kind of behavior from sellers is not on.

    • +4

We have to wait a week before leaving negative feedback.

It's like on 'The Simpsons' episode where Homer buys a gun and learns there is a waiting period - "But I'm angry now!"

    • all the lies and excuses from this seller is amazing

  • +1

No wonder they're out of stock with 3.6k clicks.

  • +1

I asked the seller if he could ship the items as they have already been marked sent and he said ‘no, they are out of stock, but I am welcome to buy them at the new price’.

What a prick. This guy is going to get a lot of negative feedback.

    • Agreed. If they're now offering the same goods at a higher price then clearly they are not out of stock after all.

Maybe the seller has shot himself in the foot by giving you this in writing? Possible actions you could take:

      • Threaten seller with neg feedback if the seller again refuses to honor the transaction
      • Threaten to use social networking to encourage other members of your group buying circle on ozbargain that were similarly affected to also give negative feedback if the seller again refuses to honor the transaction
      • Threaten seller with fraud reports to ebay and Paypal if the seller again refuses to honor the transaction
      • Don't hesitate to open cases with ebay and Paypal, even if the seller tells you not to. Sometimes just opening a case can be the tipping point at which the seller will agree to co-operate.
      • When writing to ebay/Paypal, point out that the seller has now offered the same goods at higher price and explain that this is a "bait and switch" tactic that is illegal under Australian consumer law.
      • Also emphasise that you have entered into a contract of sale with the seller and expect the contract to be honored now that the seller has received stock.

Anyway, just my ideas. I'm sure others out there can add some more.

      • seller has now offered the same goods at higher price

        …when they get stock.

eBay is showing the higher price, but zero stock.

      • -1

It's a price error. Time to move on.

        • +1

If you look at the price history you would see that a fair few units sold in the month leading up to when this was posted for the advertised price.

It was only when there was an influx of people from this site that the seller thought he set the price too low and decided to cancel all the orders by saying there's no stock (not a price error), before jacking up the price.

        • -1

          @c0balt:

The price error caused an over demand for the item, which they've now corrected by ending the listing.

A similar item has now listed with a revised price reflecting their available stock level.

This is done within Ebay's listing policy and legal under Australian pricing laws.

        • +2

          @whooah1979:

Rather than honor the price they have been selling for the last few months, he cancelled the orders and jacked the price only after noticing the sales traffic because of this listing.

That's not a price error, that's price gouging.

        • @c0balt:

The price may have been $10 (before your edit) for a time for x amount of items before it was ozbargained.

The seller can legally change the price at any time. They've to legally pull the item of the market and charge the price to the correct one after they notice a price error.

They've done this. Any items that were purchased after they noticed the price error can be cancelled and a full refund issued.

        • @whooah1979: However they didn't pull the listing before a bunch of people ordered. They then decided to cancel those orders because they decided they could sell them for more.

        • @macrocephalic:

They then decided to cancel those orders because they decided they could sell them for more.

Is that just your assumption or do you have evidence of that?
Is there a reason why they couldn't actually have run out of stock?

        • @eug: As per c0balt: they will supply them if you pay more, but if you paid $10 they're "out of stock".

        • @macrocephalic: That's different, the message that the seller sent to me said I have to "buy again from others".
Where is this new listing at a higher price?

        • @eug:

Where is this new listing at a higher price?

There's aren't any. Every listing that was at the low price (regardless of seller) has had the price changed to $40, marked as out of stock and cancelled in some cases as well.

As @whooah1979 says it's time to move on. @c0balt may disagree, but it's not going to get him a $10 soldering iron.

My hot air guns were apparently shipped, but no tracking number. Maybe I'll get them, maybe I won't. I'm not going to be too fussed either way.

        • +1

          @D C:
They falsely marked as shipped to avoid a defect against their rating. If they cancelled all the orders for being out of stock that would be a huge number of defects which is very serious as it relates to where their items show up in searches. Now they can refund when requested and avoid the defect because ebay thinks the item has been sent

        • @beatlebob: Yes.

I think they oversold especially as they received hundreds of orders in a few hours all in the time before they got out of bed on a Saturday morning. The seller might have been using an automated ebay system which didn't have accurate stock levels set. At the time, I noticed that the ebay listing was periodically adding more "available" items to be sold.

Now they're up the creek as the items are marked as shipped but the buyers aren't the ones requesting refunds. ebay sales are binding contracts.

If I were the seller, I'd try to get more stock quickly and shipped before buyers start sending "item not received" complaints. Sending out emails pleading for buyers to accept cancellations would work for one or two buyers, but not hundreds.

        • @beatlebob:

Like the eBay practice of 'price jacking' during sales, this practice sadly seems to be more common now as well, that is mostly Asian sellers advertising very low prices either on purpose or by accident then pretending to send the order but in reality nothing is sent, as it's better for them to hold the money for a while and issue refunds over time than cancelling a bunch of orders all at once, which may give them a black mark on eBay. Let's face it some people would forget or wouldn't bother chasing a refund as well. Is there a common 'term' for this practice yet?

I did order the hot air gun at $16 including shipping and it says it was shipped, however the chances of it arriving are slim. Especially since these things were $70-80 just last year.

What even is this tracking code PFLxxxxxxx supposed to be for, what company?

        • @skid:

Item not received requests do not hurt them at all as long as they send a refund within a few days, before the buyer can escalate it. Realistically, all you can do is leave negative feedback and hope ebay doesn't delete it at the seller's request.

        • +1

Actually, The PFL number looks legit, and on WININIT track and trace told me if it was being sent with Fastway. Fastway details said picked up from Tamworth today. Whether this is my actual item I don't know :)

  • I think I got lucky. I bought the soldering iron with the heat gun and I didn't get a canceled message. They also added a tracking number last night so I am pretty sure I'm going to get the deal :)

    https://imgur.com/a/anch4

    Thanks OP.

    • Awesome! Hope to hear that a few more worked out like this.

    • Same as me. I bought both, received a sent confirmation, then received an out of stock message, then after asking why it was marked as sent I was told it was a mistake and it was actually sent.
Then I asked for the tracking number and they sent me a winit tracking number which checks out and also has a corresponding Aussie Post tracking number which also checks out.
Now just waiting for Aussie Post to update to show that they have the package…

  • Here's their reply when I asked them to honour their commitment:

Very pleased that it arrived but no idea when I'll get the chance to use them!

Could never afford these as a uni student and thanks to ozbargain and being in full-time employment now I can!

    • Lucky you! I wonder if the OP got his.

    • Got mine today as well. Thanks again OP.

  • Got mine today as well. Thanks again OP.

  • Got the iron and heat gun yesterday. AU plugs with earth although have not check if they are connected. If they actually work i will be a very happy chappy. Great deal

  • Damn, mine got cancelled. If anyone has bought one and find you have no use for it, happy to take it off your hands :-)

Bull crp story about damaged label. They kept our money for 30 days to trade cryptocurrency then they decided to cancel.
Went for a full refund and will report their arsses to ebay for unscrupulous selling.

    • Had that same kind of message before, it almost an ebay standard for these shonky ebay sellers from China….

I get the feeling he is just waiting for time to run out on paypal protection or for us to ask for a refund.

    • got identical message yesterday, seems they are struggling to fulfill any order now.

    • I got similar massage from "aigodeal"

      we will refund to you,
If any question , please feel free to tell me

      Best regards"

    • Just got the same message too.

    • Got the same message from this scam artist.

  • This^^

  • I'd advise anyone caught in this scam to click on "I didn't receive it" and open a case. That way its on record with ebay and compels the seller to engage into transparent dialogue within 5 days. Then you move onto a Paypal dispute. Dont forget the neg feedback.

Im also sending a link to the seller and ebay to this thread. Cant let these clowns to get away with this.

    • I'd advise anyone caught in this scam

Is it a scam or is it a mistake?

      • it walks, talks, smells like a rat, it must be. Got refunded but i'llgive him a NF for his dishonesty. Not only did he fake ship but he had plenty of time, to inform me of his 'story' and cancel the order. Rather he left it on the last committed "receive date" to spew his tale.
take no prisoners. lynch mob and noose at the ready.

        • If it was a scam, the seller would be running away with your money. With ebay/PayPal and the excuses he gave, there's no way he'd be running away with your money.

Sounds more like a mistake to me - the seller set too much stock available at the discounted price, then when everyone bought one, the seller made up lies to try and get out of it.

So the seller probably deserves negative feedback for his dishonesty, but I definitely don't think it was a scam.

        • @eug:

I think if it wasn’t a scam/regret at pricing low then OP would have got his as he was the first to order.

        • @c0balt: At least four people received theirs though, and that's only the people who bothered to post about it.

If you look at the offer history for the iron, prior to the 20th of Jan when this was posted, they have sold for numerous amounts like $11.50, $12.00, $15.00 back in December 2017. That means the seller specifically accepted those offers, so clearly it isn't a scam.

        • @eug:

That's what I mean. OP put in an order before any of them and should have been first in line.

If you look above, I was actually the one that brought the attention of how they sold units at low prices leading up to the seller discovering he could sell them for a lot more.

I believe it to be a scam if he had the inventory to fulfill the orders, but decided to put stock at 0 (possibly selling them through another selling account) after he realised he could have made more money.

Imagine you're the guy with hundreds of these units sitting on a shelf taking up space and no one is buying them (because very few people realised how good of a bargain they are) that you have to accept offers of $11 for them, then a month later hundreds of orders come in on the same day.. You won't be glad that they all sold, you would be pissed that you could have increased the price by a few dollars and made hundreds of dollars more.

If that's the case, then it's a bait and switch - a scam.

        • @c0balt:

If that's the case, then it's a bait and switch - a scam.

OK I think the problem here is the definition of 'scam'.

To me, to scam someone is to e.g. advertise something, and when the buyer pays I don't send the item and run off with the money. The buyer paid for something and didn't receive it, so he got scammed. Here, nobody is going to be losing their money as they're all being refunded. The seller loses sales, the buyer gets their money back.

Bait and switch is a 'tactic' or 'scheme' where the seller advertises a cheap item (the bait), when you go in-store they say it's out of stock and show you a more expensive item (the switch). It's not a scam as you're not losing money - you're just being upsold, which is a sales tactic. That's not happening here either as none of us will end up buying the item at a higher price from the seller.

        • @eug:

By definition it's a bait and switch scam when the seller offered us a discount on a future order at an increased price than what we already paid.

Bait and switching is considered fraud/scamming.

        • @c0balt:

By definition it's a bait and switch scam when the seller offered us a discount on a future order at an increased price than what we already paid.

Not sure what message the seller sent you, but the one I received said "if you reorder from us in the futture, we promised give you very good price". That's not too dissimilar to e.g. Grays giving a $20 coupon code to use on their store when they have a pricing error.

To qualify as 'bait and switch', the seller's main intent for advertising the low price is to get you to purchase something else at a higher price. I was not offered anything to purchase (i.e. there was no 'switch') - I was simply offered a discount on a future purchase if I were to shop with them again. No product was offered to substitute the out-of-stock item.

edit: I just had a look at my messages, the first message I received said:

May I know if it is possible that you buy it again from others? I can cancel this order and issue you the full refund promptly . Is this fine?

if you would like to buy something from us next time, we would like to offer you 5% discount for your next order, is it okay for you?"

That's going the total opposite way of bait and switch. It's bait and send-me-away. He offered me a refund and suggested I buy it from any other seller. I'm pretty sure his few stores aren't the only ones on ebay selling them.

Bait and switching is considered fraud/scamming.

Not according to the ACCC, Merriam-Webster, dictionary.com, etc.

They all define it as a dishonest sales tactic. Nobody will lose their money with bait-and-switch - they might just end up spending more than the original advertised price for a more expensive item if they decide to go ahead with the switch. Baiting and switching is an illegal, dishonest practice, but it isn't a scam. It's also not what happened here anyway.

          @c0balt:

By definition it's a bait and switch scam

As @eug says, no it's not. You can't argue a case when you don't get the words right.

The seller says "Yeah, we screwed up the stocks numbers", and you need to prove otherwise, which you can't. The seller (on these accounts anyway) still doesn't have stock.

To be 'bait & switch' the seller needs to have said "…but here's the 858E model for only $40…"

I'm assuming what happened here is the seller put them at a low price to attract sellers, and the plan was slowly ramp up the price as interest increases to improve their stats. Upping the price like this is apparently a common tactic amongst Chinese sellers (and seeming automated as well). It went a bit astray here.

  • Just look at the sellers negative feedback, the seller is a con.

I got my hot air station yesterday brand new in box, just tested, works great. I'm very surprised I actually got it.

Double negged this scammer on ebay for his dishonesty and blatant lies.

If it helps one person, then my jobs done. Glad to be of service.

Sent an item not received and chose to get a refund and now the seller tells me that they did send it and I should look for it at the post office? This is after previously getting two messages that I should request a refund because they are out of stock. Are they trying to get past the three day window for resolutions? What should I do? What a hassle

  • The seller has responded to you and offered another solution to solve this issue.

    Seller's message:
"Hello friend, I am writing here with all my sincereness to say sorry to you . we indeed sent you the item timely, i really do not know what happened with the shipping, you know that the shipping is indeed out of our control. i am worried that your parcel may be delayed or meet some problem on the way to your location. in order to protect your max profit, how about to refund you all as compensation first? Is there any chance for you to help me pay the money back after you get the item? I am appreciated for your kind help and also trust that you are an honest person. Is this ok ?
