Buy straight from amazon so you can finally have something worth buying from Amazon.com.au

        • +3

Might as well support local retailers then Amazon. Also gives you a place to go back to if you have any issues.

        • +18

@Blanc: having stood around the local Myer electronics desk for a good 15 minutes of my lunch break watching staff actively avoid customers, and having had to return something once to Amazon US, the Amazon experience was far and away the my preferred option.

        • +9

@salem:couldnt agree more. Did a cc at myer recently and the lady had no idea how to find my parcel. Took more time to find my parcel then it would have taken me to buy in-store. Their customer service is still crap and they treat you like shit. I dont want to suppory local retailers who dont value their customers.

        • @salem: agree.

        • @salem: This 100%

        • +2

@stockastics: sorry it wasn't just my bad luck, no idea how to find your parcel after advising it was available, even if you can find it in store there is never anyone at a register unless they are serving someone else or gossiping with each other

        • @salem: True, had to do an online return recently and spent a good 10 mins looking for help at the electronics department.

        • +2

@stockastics: Myer is as good as any brick and mortar retailer is ever going to get in Australia. So unless you dont want to support any shop in this country, this is about the peak of service you will get.

I've shopped in smaller shops a lot in shopping centres in the past and their service and return policy if something goes wrong is just horrible, I'd rather deal with Myer or David Jones any day.

nice, can use my discounted myer card i got from the AMEX deal

    • Which amex deal?

  • How is it the cheapest out there when it's free shipping on Amazon?

    • -1

JB Hi-Fi are asking for $9.95 delivery on all pre-orders. Plus if you have gift cards it makes a pretty good option.

      • +2

So it's same price as Amazon - cheaper than JB, but not cheapest out there ;)

I ordered Switch games from Amazon AU on Boxing Day and had them in my hands on the morning of the 28th which I thought was super fast considering no post on Boxing Day.

      • That’s lucky, I ordered nappy balm on the 28th and got my package (with missing items ) on the 10th. After it said I should get it on the 8th, yet on the 8th it said it wasn’t posted yet, but to still expect it. Amazon has been shyt house so far in my experience.

    • And also 5% discounted Myer gift cards from suncorp lifestyle rewards.

Really good price but their delay in launching here means ive already switched to Google home.

  • How this compared to Google Mini?

    • +2

Functionally they seem about the same, so really personal preference as to which ecosystem you like more.

Whilst neither of them has particularly great sound, the Dot really is only suitable for voice. If you're only looking at the Mini and the Dot and you want to play music, go for the Mini (And in both cases the full Google Home or Echo both have much, much better sound).

      • Thanks. It seems Mini will be more value for money then.

        • go for which ever ecosystem is more useful to you, the sound different is nominal

      • Lucky for me I have a sonos system which Alexa supports, so no sound issues for me ;)

    • Still feel Americanish. Ask for location, it try to locate in US.

      • Still not out officially in Australia.

    • Own a Dot ver 2, sound quality is not quite good (still ok for bathroom music lol) but have 3.5mm output is a plus, plug it into my old ass speaker and enjoy the beat. Plus, multi-speaker Spotify support

  • Has Google lifted their ban on streaming any of their products (youtube etc) through Amazon devices?

  • I mostly use GH to play music so how is this compared to GH's crap sound?

    • Gen 2 probably a little better, but none of the Lady in a Tube speakers are what you'd call high fidelity.

      For that, Sonos.

      (Or the forthcoming HomePod. Maybe.)

    • Most of the point of the dots is that you can stream music via the 3.5mm socket or bluetooth to better speakers when you want - something the google minis can't do.

So, basically, you can get whatever quality you want.

  • Google Home or this has better audio quality?

    • Google Home

      • I find the GH a little too bassy & lacks clarity. Since the echo has a 0.6mm tweeter isn't it a little better?

    • It's not even out yet. It is a pre-order

  • This, but not much in it.

But unless you're only going to play music on it, it's probably not what you should be evaluating it on.

Rather, ecosystem, how pleasant the experience is, how many services it's hooked up to and how Australianized they are, whether it fits your home automation devices, how much you already use an Assistant and which one, whether you trust the company with your data, etc.

  • if you're doing automation echo has the edge over GH. gap may be closing though

    • Plus soon it will have powers of Cortana

  • If you have gift card from the wipe or logitech fiasco, you save more.

  • is Good Guys gonna have free Echo Dots ?

    • Good Guys don't have it. Only Myer, JB Hi-Fi and Amazon have it for now it seems.

  • Still can't install Alexa app on Android in Australia yet (last time I checked), I've linked my Dot to Spotify premium on the Windows app but Alexa won't take spotify instructions until it's been "set up on the app". If anyone has solved this I'd love to hear, I was less-than-impressed to find although my Google HM had no problems linking and playing, won't connect to other speakers with Chromecast audio ;/ Couple of things to consider

    • +1

download the Amazon Alexa app on apk-dl website and install it, work just fine for me

      • Thanks, forgot about that option, seems silly Amazon has launched in Australia but not bothered to remove that geo-block

    • You can configure your alexa by going to alexa.amazon.com

  • Same price as amazon tho?

    • +1

Same price as Amazon but here you get Myer One points. Cheaper than JB Hi-Fi. Looks like JB aren't also doing the 'buy 2' offer so better buy from Myer or Amazon.

    • Can u get discounted amazon cards? I think nearly half the Aussie population can get discounted Myer gift cards. They are on woolies like every second month, entertainment book, most reward schemes like my gas supplier and social clubs etc.

      • I had $20 credit from the amazon nappy failure, so $59 for 2 dots

        • -2

so you cant buy discounted amazon gift cards, thx for clarifying.

        • @cloudy: I dont have a clue, but I dont shop at myers

  • How’s the sound quality for these are these amazing bass and trebble?
