Foxtel Platinum HD + IQ3 + Foxtel Go $89 P/M [Save $48 P/M] 24 Month Plan

210

Foxtel occasionally runs this deal. Last time this deal was on I bit the bullet and signed up. Very good deal if you're in the market for Foxtel.

*Includes all channels
*HD

Ensure you negotiate the equipment fees with them as they have $200 to play with as far as discounts go. I managed to get the IQ3 and installation for free last time around. Play hard and just let them keep "speaking to their manager" and come back to you back and forth until you get what you want.

Although it says "online only" you can still ring up and get the same deal.

This may be a good price for Foxtel but $89/m is still alot of other subscriptions.

    • +1

If you find a couple of mates, you can split the cost and order a couple of extra boxes if they already have a foxtel connections.

      • This works across different addresses?

        • +1

Yep, as long as you have the same type of Foxel. ie. Cable or Satellite, because the boxes are different.

        • @pformagg:
+ $25 for every extra box

  • +10

Got the main channels and IQ3 for free with the broadband and I'm still questioning if it's worth it.

  • +4

Best price point for Foxtel imo would be $60 platinum HD don’t offer any other packages 1 price get everything that’s it.. at that price you would seriously consider it, any higher not worth it to much garbage on it..

  • +2

I’d prefer 12 month contract max.

  • +23

    Paying to watch commercials.

    • +2

Not if you record everything you watch. I don't watch any ads.

      • +10

Mostly shit programming on Foxtel though. Only thing really worth a damn is the sport.

        • -5

Oh yes, because tons of new release movies are worthless, right?

        • Name one good show they don’t have

        • +7

@MrZ: Well you can access these movies cheaper by other (legal) means. Whether renting or buying, if you shop around you can get good deals. Also, most the stuff is just repeated to no end. Foxtel recycle tonnes of things and their budget is like what, 1/5th of Netflix's content budget, yet their service is between 4-10x the price.

        • +1

@Gizdonk: House of Cards? They also don't have live EPL anymore, last I checked.

Either way, I'd rather pay for a few streaming services, say Netflix, HBO Now, maybe Stan. All of which include HD without squeezing another $10 a month and all without ads.

        • -2

          @no not me:

Well they had house of cards before Netflix came here, but yes Netflix has their exclusives, most crap though.

EPL is the only one on Optus/fetch tv, but they have every other sport, including A-league.

I personally have Foxtel Now, which doesn’t charge extra for HD and is mainly on demand without ads.

        • This is the only reason my father has Foxtel; I'm sure he could learn to live without the food channels, but his passion is rugby union, and you're not getting that service anywhere else in this country. When I visit or house-sit I record a couple of the car shows, 'cos the cars from Kindig Customs and Iron Resurrection are works of art, but there's not much else to pick from for me, and there are SO MANY ADS. And the bastards synchronise the shows and commercials across channels, so if you channel flick during an ad break, all you get on other channels is more commercials.

        • +2

@macklington: Yeah. It's good for older people who don't want to fiddle around choosing stuff to watch, but honestly, outside of sport, it just isn't worthwhile. I'd buy an AFL Pass but they purposefully gimp the service (SD only) so people don't ditch Foxtel altogether. The day AFL and A-League have season passes in HD, Foxtel will be out the door. Until then, I'm stuck with a base package I don't want, sport package and the HD add-on wrought.

        • @Gizdonk:
          romper stomper on stan

        • Even their sport is pretty crap. No EPL (beyond the top of the table teams) and very few NBA games

        • -1

          @Garagesale: 5 episodes of one show :O

      • You record the ads but then fast forward through them?
        Sounds like tedious work!

        • -1

Or you just download on demand. No ads and you can download in HD now :)

  • +4

$69 too expensive. Thanks for posting OP it reminds me how much of a mug I was for paying $115 many years ago.

  • +2

What makes it $60 better then Netflix or Stan or amazon prime?

    • +1

In my opinion nothing. That said it gets sport and some big name programs like Game of Thrones etc that those other services don’t get. Personally we’re happy to wait 12 months for them to hit other devices or for a physical release but of our favourite shows.

      • If you really want Game of Thrones or any HBO stuff, you can grab HBO Now. It's like $19 a month, but you get full access to all HBO stuff as it airs, plus a backlog of all old episodes.

        • Yeah but I want that, plus Walking Dead, Plus American Horror Story Plus probably a few others on top of what we get in Stan and Netflix. As such grabbing a service per show and putting in the effort to work around geoblocking becomes expensive again and a bit of an effort.

If I wasn’t prepared to wait Foxtel probably would simplify things by having most of what I want on one service, and I think I could get by with just it and Netflix. It’s too costly but and waiting isn’t an issue for me. Just finished season 7 of GoT for example today having dodged all spoilers up to now and I don’t feel at a disadvantage having waited. Maybe if I had some chatty colleagues that loved the show I’d be in trouble but.

The easier option for GoT and the occasional series may just be Foxtel Now on a trial and cancel it TBH. Maybe I’ll do that next year for GoT S8.

        • +3

@Smigit: Foxtel now is a joke though. It has ads, quality is shit house and when GoT aired this year it was bogged down so badly most people couldn't watch without buffering.

It's annoying having to pay for multiple half-fulfilling services and quite costly in the end, however, the ads in Foxtel piss me off to no end due to it's high price.

      • Is Game of thrones included in this, or is that extra

  • I signed up to Foxtel 6 months ago.

In my experience unless you go Platinum HD, it ain't worth it and its $120 a month or more from memory (I quickly dropped out after discount period).

Just adding HD and Drama for Game of Thrones to the basic pack at $55 is still a lot of money and you have sh*t all to watch.

+$10 just to make it HD in 2018 is utter garbage, it should be standard by now. They have nothing in 4K and over half the channels are in standard definition.

Cable installer also did a lousy job. Put the cable un-tethered (not nailed to beams with cable holder) through the roof and it coiled over a bathroom ceiling fan which kept hitting it when it was turned on.

Also tried to cut time and do a sh*tty job until I pressured him. Initially he wanted the cable to cut over the middle of the front yard to a verandah and under a gutter to the side of the house for the lounge room instead of following the phone and power cable to the other side neatly and going through the roof like every other house I've seen cable installed.

    • Do they hace their own Foxtel installers or are they contracted external tradies?

      • +1

They are contracted tradie cablers. The guy who installed mine also did contracts for the NBN.

Now I understand why so many people have dodgy NBN installations too.

        • In 2013 I was getting foxtel. Guy came out to install and started spewing rubbish about the difficulty and how it's a quoted install and said it's going to cost me an extra $150 for install.

After saying no thanks, I rang Foxtel saying I don't want to pay that. The person on the other end was very interested in hearing exactly what was said. Apparently if it's a quoted install you pay Foxtel and not the installer. Another 'head' installer came out, installed it all and asked for me more details about what the previous guy said. Seems it's a common issue where they try and scrape a little off the customer without Foxtel knowing.

    • If you want Game of Thrones, HBO Now, like $19 a month, cancel when the season ends. Have to do some VPN trickery though.

      • I heard they can block those using VPN's, or perhaps that was just Netflix.

  • Thanks OP.. do U know it’s for new customers only. ?

    • Never mind. It says New residential customers and standard install only.

    • +1

Try calling up and asking for disconnections, say you have heard other people getting HD for $89, see what they will do.

      • Thanks mate.. I will give it a try

  • you can either by this or every other major ip based solution twice

  • +3

HD sport is the only thing good foxtel does and that isnt worth $89 pm.

  • +1

Isn't it better to get the 6 month Plat HD plan, which is free for 3 months? By my maths it works out at around $69 + box fee. Then at the 6 month end date just ring up disconnections and they should offer you the $89 deal, likely month to month.

    • That's what I'm thinking…

3 months Plat HD free, then downgrade to the lowest package ($26) for the remaining 3 months.
      Total cost: $128 (incl $50 IQ3 box)

    • Is this still on?

  • +2

I got the best deal from telstra. Unlimited nbn + Foxtel entertainment+sports+movies+HD $89 for 12 months
After that it would be full price $164 though.

    • +1

      That's an excellent deal.

      • Any upfront cost?

        • I was out of contract and moving home. I did pay the moving fee but no other fees.

    • What speed though? I'm assuming the lowest.

      • +1

I guess so but speed test is not bad, download close to 100m and up load close to 40m.

        • So thats the highest speed then, by the sounds of it. Are you getting those speeds downloading?

        • +1

          @mavis30551:
I did not download much and didn’t check the speed either.
But I can at least tell the speed is no worse than my previous Telstra speedboost 100m cable.

    • Can you still get this $89 pm for 12 months deal now?

      • It’s a 24 months deal and the price is only for the first year.

  • +1

This is still massively over priced. Maybe when they had a monopoly on all sports and all the best TV programs it was OK. But now Netflix has better shows and they've lost quite a lot of sports I don't see what you're paying for.

    • I just downgraded my Netflix. So much of their shows esp marvel are the same crap regurgitated. Other shows whilst there can be slower to update like Peaky Blinders. I notice it all the time. Haven't been using Stan but looked at the catalog the other day and variety seems better. Foxtel still has a monopoly for most avid sports fans if u want HD NRL or Aleague etc. It is frustrating.

  • they removed the arts channel which was the main channel mum watched and now shes leaving foxtel.
it cant have cost them much to program old performances of ballet and actors studio etc

  • When you look at the actual decent content there isn't much as most programming is recycled, then you have to make sure you record everything so you can skip through the high amount of ads.

Now that GoT isn't airing until 2019 they will have issues signing new customers, HD sport is their last stranglehold (but charging extra for HD is a joke)

  • Everyone should know that you can easily get $30 per month taken off your Foxtel bill if you just ask for it.

$10 for HD? Haven't paid it for years.

    Free Drama channels? No problem.

Or maybe free sport instead? OK.

Unless you ask for it you, you're not going to get it.

    • Doesn't work all the time! Some times people get lucky. Was offered $25 off my package if I stayed with them. But decided to cancel Foxtel for good. Paying $165p/m for 7 years and no discounts given only taken away from what I originally had years ago. Overpriced garbage! You can get anything you want in better quality and sooner from the internet. Sport is the only thing they can bargain with. I found streaming sites so bye bye Foxtel!

  • im considering getting the sports, as we know port are gona win the premiership and would be nice to have it all ;-)

so its normally 60$ for sprots + hd, so another few dolloars might be worth it, though wont ever watch that garbage

  • Site says it Jack's up to full price after 3 months. What's the dealio, neighbourino? Is it 89 a month for the while 24 or does it jack it's way back up?

    • I have been misinformed. Ignore me.

  • Was paying $165 p/m for Platinum HD with an extra box. Basically to just watch F1 and a bit of basketball. Stopped the service yesterday as I've found a way to stream F1 for free. Even though quality is not full HD, neither was foxtel who still show almost everything they have in 720p, if you're lucky maybe 1080i. International broadcasters are already showing it in 4K! So ridiculous how far behind we are.
