  • This would be perfect for school right?

    • Yeah for the standard office package it would be fine.

    • -3

1366X768 res sucks, the other specs you can get basic web surfing and office application stuff done.

    • Honestly, this N3060 type of laptop might be good for pre-school to primary, first lesson teach the kids… "Patient"

I would mostly consider these as parts for other laptop, Ebay selling 14" monitor $60+ , the wifi & bluetooth card $12~15, the Ram $35~40, battery and touch pad, might be able to migrate the windows 10 license to other laptop, depends on BIOS so it might works out the license worth more than the laptop itself.

CPU benchmark is on par with 10 years old high end laptop Intel Core2 Duo L7500

  • Holy shoot that is cheap!!! I understand that it is massively underpowered but what the hell look at the price!

This would be best suited for kids for school, as this is not a high end laptop.

    Depends on the school.

  • Am I able to swap to bigger ssd on this?

  • +3

yeh u gotta remember this is 31gb SSD with windows 10 its not too different from a chromebook with the space you have left.

  • 48 left … wow.

Note that CPU power is pretty stunted, even compared to the N3710.

But they are obviously ex-corporate, which means it may have had little use (the CEO), or been driven into the ground at the limestone mine (tradie with dusty boots).

The battery might be ok, or stuffed.

Still good price though it seems to me - i'm just saying what to be careful of.

    41 left @ 10:14pm.

    • +1

battery totally stuffed on the unit I got :( Need to return it.

  • Light weight or not?

Go the Lenovo Yoga 300-11IBR 11.6" for $24 more .. same specs but more practical and touch screen. Same seller 9 left.

    • +1

      That is this @ $179 - 20% = $143.20 delivered.

      • 11.6" is more practical?

Only for a cheap travel laptop but you can't do any serious work on a 11 inch…

        • Would this have a M.2 slot for an ssd ???

  • Anyone tried running some older games on it like pre 2005 era..maybe even 2000 era.

    • Should run Liero just fine

      • :) who is this

  • +2

I'm on the fence with this one… my suggestion to anyone considering these devices perform your windows 10 updates straight away, use the Microsoft windows update assistant to get it updated to the fall creators update 1709 before you do anything else because with such a small capacity device. Windows 10 left to automatically update in the background will in turn make the device shit the bed and will probably start giving errors that its ran out of space to perform 1709.

Done correctly its a budget device with a Celeron CPU and 4gb of ram, pretty much check your email, have two tabs of google chrome open… not sure if you could watch netflix on it without frame jitter on full screen…

Keep receipt for your 12 months grays online warranty, you might find the internal battery stops charging later on.

In fact folk may wish to try a fresh install assuming they know what they're doing.

Windows 10 Home is a pain with their forced updates…

      • +1

Lenovo will have a little bit of their homemade crap-ware like lenovo app explorer, no worse than some of manufactures bloat (acer, i'm looking at you). Honestly tho sadly a 'fresh' / 'clean' install of windows 10 is non existent in my eyes… the start menu is virtually a microsoft billboard, windows edge will try in all its power to recommend their browser and bing search engine… I could go on but I'm watching pointless crap on youtube.

        • +2

Yeah i did a fresh install of Win 10 Pro on an old laptop a couple of days ago via USB key, and it installs so much crap it's not funny, including games. I had to go and uninstall stuff that i'd only just downloaded as part of the ISO. Not happy Jan.

I bought one for my son, good enough for year 7, I bought my daughter a high end ASUS and she trashed it in a a year.
This will do him for a couple of years and will update for when he is in Year 9.

  • Why do people still try put windows trash on this? Why not some lightweight Linux distribution?

    • Because not everyone has experience in using Linux, that's why.

Lucky i'm here to help you out.

  • Bought one - thanks op

  • That dual core Celeron… is horrible.. It's like the worst one you can put in outside of an Atom (which has better performance)

  • For just browsing chrome and emailing this should hold up alright?

The Unofficial Official laptop of Ozbargain is the

    Dell Inspiron 11 N3710.

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Dell-Inspiron-11-3000-Laptop…

    PRESENT20 for $299.20

Edit. I didn't have a Lenovo but the N3060 is painful.

    • not full-sized keyboard is a massive deal breaker IMO. I'm surprised that laptop has been so popular tbh.

  • go and buy a secondhand x220 guys

    • +1

You're pushing this line in several deal threads. Appreciate an old i5 a more powerful machine, but what sort of battery life can you expect from a secondhand laptop that was, by my googling, released sometime back in 2011? Likewise, the wear and tear risks on a portable electorinics device that's 5-6 years old (better made, sure, but still 6 years more use), makes it sound like a much bigger risk. Also, zero warranty.

      • that's because I think it's a great idea. I get around 6 hours on an old 9-cell, YMMV of course.

      • also, people love to upvote refurbished Dell workstations and I fail to see how an old Thinkpad would pose any greater risk.

  • comes with Windows 3.11 installed?

    • +1

If it has Windows 10 version 1511 installed on it, you'll be wishing it came with 3.11 lol.

    • That flashback almost made me lose consciousness. Thanks.

    • It’s MS Dos 3.31 but upgradable to MS Dos 5.0

      • +1

        Autoexec.bat
        config.sys
        FTW

        • Where am i?

        • @AngryChicken: IBM compatible PC, need to count from 1 to 640 KB (2 times) then it will load up the Dos of your choice MS Dos / PC Dos / DR Dos

        • Prompt = $p$g

  • Is this a fanless latop?

  • Some share experience with using one of these 31gb machine.
After installling Office from a fresh machine… there’s barely any storage left . The factory partition for backup also took a large chunk of the hard drive. We got an Yoga 300 and the SD expandable memory card can not be fully inserted and stick out like a thumb drive.. unless you need a laptop, a refurbished or cheap new Tablet is much more useful.

  • Got my s100 14 inch last week, battery seems to have issues holding charge. Anyone else experiencing similar issues?
