Google Chromecast v2 - $48 each (Limit of 2) @ Harvey Norman

710

Not the cheapest it has been, but great price if you can't wait for them to be on sale. I did price match at Officeworks today for 5% discount $45.60.

Edit: Changed title to reflect version 2 and deal is for one @ $48

Yeah not the cheapest that i've been like i got mine for $43 at HN a super buy. But still at $48 it beats the normal about $80. I guess it wasn't selling that well at the usual about $80.

But still at $48 it beats the normal about $80

      It says "2 - $48"

      • +1

Ahhh no it's the Chromecast version 2 for $48.

        • -5

Are you sure? This is a 'Harvey Norman' deal….

        • @jv:

This is the Chromecast version 2 which is on a deal which you only get one of them for $48. Not two of them. That's why the title says Chromecast 2 which this is. The original Chromecast came in USB stick form but the second release of the Chromecast is also known as Chromecast 2 which is this round shaped one. You have obviously mistaken how it's saying Chromecast 2 - $48 thinking that it's a deal for two of them at that price. Sorry it's not.

          @hollykryten:

          thanks.

        • @jv: Yes Version 2

          @hollykryten:

          Not two of them.

He's commented this before on other Chomecast 2 threads just to troll the OP. You should know jv by now and not bother falling for it and explaining :)

          @CVonC:

Yeah sorry i didn't know jv. Now i do!. Won't fall for it again. :)

  • Bought one of these today, got it at officeworks with the price beat guarantee, came to $45.60 with the 5% discount.

          Carsales?
Or do you know a guy called Marty who posted some on Gumtree?

  • I've just ordered a new Sony TV with Android built in (waiting for it to arrive). Is there any advantage to buying a Chromecast? Or will my TV do everything the CC will do?

    • +7

Or will my TV do everything the CC will do?

You can't use your TV as a sink plug

      • +2

Still reusing 2016 "jokes" eh? Did you ever get your sink plug for $40?

    • +4

Generally your Sony TV running android will have chromecast built-in - no advantage for buying a separate Chromecast for your TV.

      • +4

You shouldn't need it. Though, and it may just be my personal bad luck, a few devices with "built in" chromecasts such as TV and nVidia shield TV have both behaved buggy to the point i actually plugged a standalone chromecast in instead which worked better. YMMV, try the TV first. Chromecasts can often be found at a good price via ebay if needed later.

        • Yep.

I still have issues casting Foxtel and Stan to non-Google hardware / devices, and some of them also require you to power them on first before they are available to cast to.

      • +2

no advantage for buying a separate Chromecast for your TV.

Good for contingency planning if the built in one fails during the final of "Married at First Sight"

    • depends if you use google home / as some tvs with built in chromecast will not power on when you say 'google turn on my tv'
whereas if you have a chromecast/and external power to it…

Just gonna add; cheapest around at the moment for single units.

I went through an ordeal to get it cheaper at kogan; but lots of effort.

    $6.99 for the $20 + $30 vouchers.

    $10 referral credit
    $20 off $50 spend
    $30 off $120 spend

Two chromecasts $59 ea + delivery (free shipster)
Makes it $119, add a $3 tooth whitening kit so $122 + voucher cost ($6.99)

Less $10 referral credit for new account, less $20 coupon, less $30 coupon

    Apply coupons
Makes it $68.99 delivered for two chromecasts (AU model) or 34 ea +/-

    • you forgot woolworths egift card to buy kogan $50 gift card to save another $2.50

      • Ohh yeah!

That would make it what $66.50 delivered?

I was suprised kogan actually shipped all my orders, good on them.

  • I bough the Chromecast Ultra for $50 at duty free last year. Shit sales so they reduced the price

    • +4

      great deal.

anybody know of any deals atm for the ultra?

  • Will this play 4k hdr?

    • +1

You will need the Ultra model.

  • I read it too quick and thought it said 2 for $48

    • Sorry about that, didnt want people thinking it was the Ulta model

    Such an irrelevant device.

    • What’s a relevant device?

      • -1

        Phone is fine

        • +1

Huh? This is for watching shows on a TV. And you need a phone or tablet to use it.

        • 6 inch screen compared to 40+ inches? No comparison mate.

It's an OzBargain meme, you'll get used to it after a while.

    • +1

It's actually a good, cheap option if you don't have a smart TV.

  • They have cc + home mini for $97. Not a bad deal either.

  • These things hold their value. I paid about the same almost a year ago.

  • These combined with Plex are great.

  • How long is the power cable? I dont have a power plug behind my TV and was wondering how to power this one?

    • If you have a spare USB port on your tv, you can use that, but note: if you are using google home to turn tv on, it needs mains power, unless your USB works in standby mode.

      • +1

Thanks guys. I have a HiSense Series 3 tv. Wondering if the USB port on it will supply the required power?

        • yep I use the bottom USB port on mine, works fine.. the USB port is blue (other two aren't).. CBF looking up what that means exactly but it works fine.

edit: just looked it up.. the bottom USB port supports 1amp while the top two only support 500mA.

    • From memory about 1.5m.

You can use a powered USB port on your TV, but not all are suitable.

I have a cheap Kogan where I don't have a USB port that will suffice.

  • Officeworks also updated their price to $48.

    • damnit

Meanwhile, I did a "click and collect" and still haven't received any confirmation from HN that I can come and grab the item.

I should've just popped down to OW and been done with it.

  • Purchased one for my sister last week. Went to HN and they had them for $58. I asked the salesman what is the best price bud
and he came back with $57 and said that was below cost and he can’t do any better.

I said The Good Guys have then for $55, he replied we can match that. I replied no you can’t it is below your cost I will go buy it from TGG and walked away.

I paid to much at the good guys $54, but my sister needed it that day.

EDIT: HN always have a limit of 2 per person. It is to make the goods look like they @ a hot price.

    • +1

Yeah HN and there below cost price, I very rarely buy something from them these days as I don't like that kind of tactic.

  • Also available from Officeworks on ebay for $45.60 using the "PICK5" 5% discount code.
