Resolution is too low for the size. If you're going to do a 34 or 35 inch ultrawide you should be looking at 1440. 1080 is better suited to 29 inch monitors

      • Actually, i have the free sync model of this and its not to bad, don't forget 2560 x 1080 is not equivalent to 1920 x 1080, you get some extra width, so it sort of balances out the ultrawide, i cant see the pixels arms length any ways, but this is 144hz, intended for gamers who want the 21:9 aspect

      • -1

measure the physical size of the monitor and you will find that the height of the monitor is close to your average 24" monitor, so you are getting about 1.5x 24" monitors in terms of screen estate but uninterrupted wide screen. Which should mean (unless it is unacceptable to you) that it would be fine compared to 2x 24" monitors.

        • +2

Wrong. 34 ultrawides are 27 inch screens vertically.

          Source: have both.

          • @shiny1: Correct. It's the same as having a 27" 1080p monitor. Whilst yes you can do so, it's really not a good resolution for the screen size

        • It is close to 24" 16:10 I have the Dell 24" 16:10 and the LG I have just measured them.

    • Jesus, and I thought I was being funny about 27" being no lower than 1440p…. can only imagine how this looks on such a big screen.

      • -1

Comments like that are just allowed for people with SLI GTX 1070 or higher.

        • +2

          Erm, not really.
I would say a single 1070 is plenty for 1440p in most games.

I can't see why anyone would go for 1080p gaming in 2018.
I think the cut off point is a 27" and anything beyond that, you really ought to be aiming for a 1440p monitor at this price point.

I'm guessing the downvotes are for the people who've pulled the trigger on this already..!

          • @Deviner: But you have to choose refresh rate or resolution… Unless you have sli 1080ti

          • @Deviner: @Dienk: We've gone from SLI 1070 to now SLI 1080ti? :)

            And I don't think so.
Completely depends on the game, but I think you could go for Med/High settings on 1440p res and still hit close to max fps on a 1070 (or obviously higher on a 1080ti) with a single card. Or just cap fps @ anything over 100 and you're doing ok.

Anyways, I'm sure this monitor ticks the boxes for a lot of people so lets not dwell on it.

      • -1

Again, you're probably thinking of a 27" in 16:9. This is 21:9, so it looks shorter but wider. Read above comment regarding 24" monitors. If you measure the physical screen size, its only maybe 1cm taller (14.4inch high) than my Dell 24s (14.2inch high). So in terms of height (1080p), the difference would be negligible.

    • +1

For anyone wondering about the resolution:
      34" 2560x1080 = 81.72 pixels per inch.
      29" 2560x1080 = 95.81 pixels per inch.
For comparison, a bog standard 24" FHD monitor has 91.79 pixels per inch.

However, what really matters is the pixels per degree of vision, i.e. how close you sit to the screen vs how dense the pixels are. By Apple's "retina" standard where the average human eye can't differentiate pixels, you'd have to sit about 107cm away from this monitor for it to be "retina". Meanwhile, you'd have to sit 94cm away from a 24" FHD monitor for it to become "retina".

      • -1

^ To add to that, for those people who are talking about it being "weird" in terms of pixels, a 25" at 1920x1080 would have about the same pixel density as the 34".

These calculations will not mean much to you, but you could use them as a gauge of reference in terms of pixel density comparison
        Rough calculation:
        (2560x1080) / 34 = 81,317
        (1920x1080) / 24 = 86,400
        (1920x1200) / 24 = 96,000
        (1920x1080) / 25 = 82,944

Based on my calculations i would say that numbers run pretty close to yours.

Not sure why everyone is going nuts for these $450+ deals. The console was $419 with GT Sport a few months back. Sold my copy of the game for $60 so almost $100 less than this.

        • yeah thanks.

let's wait for an Xmas deal.

          Is GT sport any good?

      • +5

        No they weren't.

          • @pinkybrain: Then it must be true….

            Nice edit.

          • @pinkybrain: Games take years for production, especially those that they want for console launch.
IF dev kits were just released, then new consoles launches are still at least 2-3yrs off.
Unless you expect them to launch the next gen with indie titles?

      • +2

2020 at best. still a good two years left for that. Username checks out

        • -7

Depends on when you need it.

If can wait, Xmas will probably get cheaper or include some more games.

          Username checks out.

    • There is a possible 2020 release date of the PS5

Sony already has said that this gen is coming to it's end of life..
They already got the console developed or close to finished

A 2020 PS5 launch is very high probably.
They also want to get a head start on Xbox.

      https://www.t3.com/features/playstation-5-xbox-two-nintendo-…

      Also Xbox Two news
      https://www.news.com.au/technology/home-entertainment/gaming…

      • Oh my, I better wait another 2 years.

        • You can wait till Xmas, if you want a better deal.

          Price has been much cheaper…

I think there is possible Amazon AU deals coming up
based on their Xbox One S Minecraft Edition deal,

          • @pinkybrain: I’m in the same boat as lots of people wanting the pro but thinking about the PS5 as well. Given it’s 2-3 years away, my thinking is if we wait until Christmas, then the PS5 becomes ‘only 18 months away’, putting further doubt about purchasing the pro towards the end of its lifespan. Therefore might as well get the pro sooner than later. I think it’ll be closer to $400 by June 30, so holding out for this!

          • @pinkybrain: @brian77:
Yeap there will be a better deal near june 30 and xmas..

Waiting for Amazon AU to make a move
Based on the hard to beat deal of the Xbox one S Minecraft deal edition

There's high possibility Amazon is ramping up more deals.

There's also rumour of the PS5 could have backwards compatability with PS4, so there is something else to consider..

          • @pinkybrain: @pinkybrain:

Given now Ps4 (and xbox) is based on x86 architecture (which all I know about that is it's like PC), I think we can safely assume going forward that new consoles will also be based on x86, which means backwards compatibility would be a given.

          • @pinkybrain: @m0usju1c3:

Yes, that is something else to consider.

So if you can wait 2 years, get a PS5, which can play PS4 games
so you can play all your PS4 games you wanted while waiting for more games on PS5..

And by then the PS4 games will be selling really cheaply..

They might even come out with remaster versions for the PS5 for popular games, like they did for PS4..
This is the trend I am noticing on consoles and PCs

        • -4

          Waiting is up to you..

Depends on which console you want more
          PS4 or PS5..

          • +5

@pinkybrain: Nah I think I'll just wait for the PS6, but what I really want is a good deal on the PS3.

All of your posts have been full of rumour, assumption, pure guessing and even comments conflicting with your earlier comments.
Its made for done pretty funny reading, so thank you.

          • -3

            @pinkybrain: @linton:
            Oh wow, there's gonna be a PS6..
You must have some giant balls to be willing to wait for PS6.

Kudos to you and your giant balls.

If you want PS3 then go check gumtree or ebay..

            glad you enjoy it..

And it is not my rumour
I link to the website articles including from news.com.au

so you can tell them what you think..
            cos I don't give a shit.

          • @pinkybrain: @pinkybrain:

I didn't say they were your rumours, but you are reposting them, hence my comment.

Just because it's on a site called news.com.au doesn't make it fact.

What is a fact is that story you linked even states they include rumour.

I can also list things in new paragraphs to make everything I type appear factual.

Thank you for your lovely comments on my testicles.

          • @pinkybrain: @linton:

So what if I repost them?

People can read it and make up their own mind what they want to do with the info.
Some can wait for 1 or 2 years if it ends up them saving money.. and getting a new system..what's your problem with that?
There is also a high chance the next PS5 will have PS4 backwards compat. since it uses x86 architecture

So you have some issue with people reading the articles and making up their own mind if they want to buy this PS4 today or not?

Also it is confirm FACT by Sony Gaming CEO comment that the PS4 is coming near it's EOL..
            Go google it.

So knowing this info, websites and even micheal pachter (google him if you don't know) are speculating a 2019 or 2020 PS5 released.

          • @pinkybrain: @pinkybrain:

OK then pinky, whatever you say.

      • +5

The more you'll wait, the older you'll get, the more responsibilities you'll have, the more precious time would become, the less immersive game narratives will seem, the less interest you'll have with gameplay.

Two years later, would you look back and think whether you could have shelled out $50 for an experience that you'd fondly remember?

        • this. i know it's ozbargain, but people on this forum get really carried away at times.

        • Depends on each individuals..

I still got a large backlog catalog of games on a variety of different consoles and portables that I've yet to play through.

Waiting is no problem for me.

    • +1

Really disappointed with the PS4 “deals” as of late, I was expecting some real rippers during Days of Play.

    • +1

Apparently, dev kits are just pc boxes with specific hardware in them and it's not uncommon for console makers to send out early versions to game developers and they are often upgraded before release.

Given that games typically 2 to 4 years to develop and the first dev kits only went out a couple of months back (allegedly) it is highly unlikely that PS5 will be out before 2020. We'll probably get an announcement for it this time next year at best.

I'd say go ahead and buy a PS4 Pro this year if you need it. Personally I'm happy to wait as my "crappy old" original PS4 is still chugging along nicely.

      • Depends on each individuals..

I still got a large backlog catalog of games on a variety of different consoles and portables that I've yet to play through.

Waiting is no problem for me.

It is only possibly two years away anyway.

      • Not to mention PC gaming..

which has better graphics and more modding ability.

Only thing I want the Ps4 is some exclusives like God of War, Death stranding etc..

most of the other games can be played on the PC, with better graphics.

    Go to Deal
    Coupon Code: PLUS15

Cheapest price around for these great grinders.
Highly praised since their release in 2017.
Very consistent fluffy grinds and one of the fastest consumer grinders out there, though can be quite loud due to the burr design.

Highly accurate timed and weighed dosing to remove a variable from your espresso.

Very low retention due to the straight through burr setting unlike mazzer etc.

    Blurb from website-https://alternativebrewing.com.au/product/baratza-sette-270w/

The Baratza Sette 270w grinder is built with the latest advancements in coffee grinder technology. Unlike other contemporary grinders, the Sette 270w features a rotating outer burr, and a fixed inner burr. The outer rotation enables the steel 40mm conical burrs to grind between 3.5g and 5.5g of coffee per second, much faster than other grinders of its size.

The burrs are expertly engineered to remain sharp and aligned for many years, and retain less ground coffee than rival grinders. Baratza’s new gear drive system makes for a gear box that is ultra-efficient, reducing gear speed by 19:1.

The Sette 270w has 30 macro settings that can accommodate, espresso, french press, and everything in between. The grinder’s additional 9 micro settings give you even more control when dialing in for that delicious, balanced espresso. You can even grind straight into a portafilter or coffee brewer, thanks to the convertible holder.

The Sette 270w stands apart with a built-in Acaia scale that can dose ground coffee for you, down to a tenth of a gram accuracy. The LED display allows you to program 3 dosing amounts, which makes weighing out coffee quick and painless.

    BARATZA SETTE 270W GRINDER FEATURES
Steel 40mm Conical Burrs – Grind 3.5g to 5.5 g/sec. with breakthrough rotating outer burr.

Gear Box – 19:1 speed reduction with a combination planetary gear box and patented crown gear drive system.

Programmable Dosing – LED display to program dosing weight to 0.1g on three settings.

Grind Adjustment – 30 macro and 9 micro adjustments to achieve your ideal grind size.

Method Range – Suitable for espresso, french press, and everything in between.

Device Holder – Built-in convertible holder for grinding directly into brewing devices and portafilters.

Minimal Retention – Retains less ground coffee, reducing waste.

  • Merged from $1 Tono 6.5mm Cable@ Officeworks - Limited Stock

    Tono Braided 6.5mm to 6.5mm Cable 6m
I purchased all the stock of this cable I could find in the Newcastle area. I discovered stores still had this ticketed at $10-$15. These appear to be of good quality and well-shielded.

This Tono Braided 6.5mm to 6.5mm Cable is an easy way to connect a variety of instruments and devices to a stereo. The cable is made from oxygen free copper and features nickel plated plugs.
This cable has a 6.5mm jack on each end.
The cable is 6 m long, making it perfect for extending the reach of instruments.
The cable features oxygen free copper with nickel plated metal plugs.
The braided cable is black, so it will not stand out on stages.
It has heavy duty heat shrink tubing.

Stores that show stock on the website, however please put in your postcode to double-check:

    *Greenacre Officeworks
    *Old Guildford Officeworks
    *Five Dock Officeworks

As this is limited stock, and sold out in most locations, I have just placed it in the forum. Also, of interest is the Tono 10" PA Speaker @ $48
