      Honestly I wouldn't buy any computer without an SSD. Even for my parents, a mechanical hard drive is painful to use.

          bear in mind upgrading yourself voids the grays warranty on the laptop and it may not be eligible for any warranty through lenovo as it is a refurb. the even put those annoying warranty tamper stickers on the back to stop you accessing all the screws - a lenovo i bought from grays had this (admittedly not this model but still, something to think on!)

          @Wilburre: Tamper stickers are actually illegal for warranty purposes, hence why no manufacturer uses them anymore. Best Gray's could get away with is asking you to put the original drive in to confirm the one you installed isn't the issue.

          You're allowed to open and modify any part of a computer without voiding the warranty.

        with recent ebay special, i just upgraded my Core 2 duo and pentium T laptop to SSD…….
        Biggest improvements are startup time, other than that is only minor improvements (maybe due to SATA2 or 1?)

        So i'm ok with mechanical drive for the past 7 years….., desktop wise, i think hybrid is not too bad too…

        I guess you could replace the hdd with 240gb SSD for ~$60

          Are you using Windows 10 on those machines? A few people came to me a few years ago with brand new laptops running super slow and in both cases it was due to non-stop background indexing, which was exacerbated by background updates. In their cases, I imagined an SSD would have greatly reduced some of the slow downs.

          Perhaps Microsoft has fixed or optimised indexing since then. But even with SATA I you should see great improvements the first time you start a program such as Excel (where disk seeking times are more important than max speed).

    I've been looking for a SONY E 35mm F1.8 OSS (SEL35F18) over the past few weeks and I have been struggling to find it for under $500. From my research this lens has pretty solid reviews for portraits and street photography.

      Anyone had any recent experience with Sony "Seconds" - I can handle a damaged box or missing non essential cable, but if the TV was scratched up (even a little) I don't think I'd be too happy.

        I bought a pair of WH-1000XM2 'seconds' headphones and they looked brand new and unused.
        I later bought a bluray player and bluetooth speaker - they definitely looked used with a few scratches, but worked perfectly.

        Never had an issue - except the shipping company delivered the TV to the wrong house. Sony were very helpful on the phone about it however. I believe there is a 12 month warranty on these (definitely double check though), so you should be okay.

        Only thing is refurbished can mean all number of things - so I guess it's always going to be a bit of a gamble. I'm still stoked however 1 year onwards. Honestly I'd forgotten it was refurbished until I saw this post, feels brand new.

      Just a heads up, my sister ordered one of these and she's got some flickering on the screen, and it sometimes going completely blank.

      I haven't had time to look at it yet or help her with a warranty return.

    Take note this is a "REFURBISHED" or "SECONDS" item.

    I personally bought one a couple weeks ago. I did my research about Sony seconds tv's and decided to take the risk, and I am glad I did.
    The TV that I received was literally brand new. The box was completely fine, sealed and all accessories were inside the box sealed in it's original wrapping.
    The TV still had those protective plastic wrappers intact with no signs of removal and sticking it back on.
    No scratches or anything on the TV, and my TV screen was not bent (unlike some horror stories with other SONY and LG Oleds)

    Mine was Delivered by DHL. Sony does say that products purchased on SONY website directly (new) are sent via DHL and EBAY Refurbished/seconds through TOLL so I don't know why mine was sent by DHL.

    I can't say what you will get if you buy this, but that was what I received.

    1 only apparently, get it while it's hot, and prepare to be blown away by the blackness of the OLED TVs.

        As long as Canon make dedicated video cameras they will gimp their DSLR video capture. EOS R and 5D4 do 4K but cropped at 1.7x and limited frame rates.

    This is a great deal for anyone looking for a compact laptop that looks good but can also run a handful of VMs natively, or handle video/photo editing tasks.

    I bought this myself after holding out for 3 months for the Huawei Matebook X Pro to be announced for Australia, but unfortunately it didn't look like it's going to happen.

    This laptop has the same dimensions, an 8th Gen Quad-core CPU, 16GB DDR4 RAM, and a 512GB NVMe SSD. It seemed almost too good to be true, but I can say first hand it's everything I was hoping for.

    It boots up (literally) in 3 seconds, and I can log in with my fingerprint. I've run a Kali and Vulnhub VM with Chrome and OneNote open on the host and the RAM usage peaked at around 48%, so I guess you could probably run another one or two VMs without stressing it too much. The performance was really smooth with no lag or freezes - the fans did spin up a little, but it wasn't an issue for me. It came with a few small scuffs, but they're not noticeable, and I've put a hard shell on it anyway.

    Highly recommend this for anyone looking to get a compact, stylish, and capable laptop for work on VMs or visual editing.

          Looked "Shop Soiled" rather than "Used". The Silver body seems pretty easy to scratch, so had a few light scratches (consistent with the description)

        Gray's only sell manufactured refurbished, which is a legal distinction given to an item which has been returned, then restored to new by a manufacturer and sold with a warranty.

        If you can find a product you like under that category (as distinct from seller refurbished) for a good price, you're usually getting a steal.

      Bought this for my mum on Monday, came today.
      Excellent condition, couldn't find a scratch anywhere.

      Pretty impressed with it and probably maximum overkill for my elderly mother (4K res @ 350% scaling LOL)

        There is article that someone may be able to link to comparing them, but rough summary was 8400 generally better for purely gaming (by not a lot), but 2600 better for multi-threaded performance, so a better all-rounder.
