pretty sure this isn't much of a deal i bought the dual boiler version original of the oracle years ago for less than that BRAND NEW. I wouldnt' go for the touch version for that price and a refurb as well.

      • -1

According to a breville rep I spoke to, the only difference is the touch screen compared to the original version. So definitely not worth the price

        • -1

Because reps 'always' tell you the truth… 🤔

          • @jv: Well it was a Breville rep. She said save your money and just buy the original one as the insides are all the same. Just the screen. So for once an honest rep lol

            • @Sammyboy: unless they were just trying to flog off all the old models?

              • @jv: Its still a current model, just a base model now

    • +1

I know a couple different people that have had an Oracle machines fail within the first 12 months.

      • almost 3 years old for me still going strong the issue for alot of people is that they dont' know how to take care of those machines. So they end up breaking it. one of the major issues is that they use the wrong kind of water eg tap water. The other thing is people don't realize a dual boiler system is not the same as a thermal system you don't' need to Descale the thing unless its completely necessary. because descaling on a dual boiler can cause more damage to the machine than fixing it especially if it doesn't need it. If you use good spring water with the filter being changed every 3 months in the machine you will not have this issue. Making sure the group head is clean after every use is important and regular cleaning when prompted is something you should always do.

        • Using spring water and changing filters every 3 months?
          Isn't bit over the top?

          • +1

@Wiser: your meant to change the filter every 3 months because it only lasts that long in the machine eg you get a funny taste when it stops filtering. its almost never over the top if you want the best tasting shots water plays a part just alike all the other variables in espresso to make a good shot. also good quality water doesn't' build up lime scale through out the machine meaning you don't have to descale it.

        • -1

one of the major issues is that they use the wrong kind of water eg tap water.

So you use bottled water for your coffee?

          What's wrong with tap water?

          • +1

@jv: too many additives and chemicals ends up causing lime scale in most coffee machines alot of the time. spring water that is filtered is alot less likely to do that.

            • @kungfuman:

too many additives and chemicals ends up causing lime scale

              Descale…

spring water that is filtered is alot less likely to do that.

Tastes funny. Can also be high in minerals, which is not good for coffee machines…

              • @jv: dual boiler systems you can destroy them by descaling them, so its not recommended unless its absolutely necessary.

  • Ecoflow Delta 2 Max 1900wh Power Station $1399 Delivered @ EFEcoFlow AU eBay
    Merged from deal
    Coupon Code: CBTJ20

$740 per kWh of battery isn't the lowest, but the advantages of phone app & Home Assistant integration makes this more appealing for my intended use case as a solar-charged UPS for my PC. 5yr warranty is reassuring, with the usual 3000 cycles/10yrs to 80% capacity as expected of LFP batteries.

There's a couple of storefronts with various models available, some eligible for the code and some not. I also checked authenticity by emailing Ecoflow directly who said:

Thank you for contacting EcoFlow Customer Support.
"EcoFlow_flagship" and "EcoFlow au" are both our official authorized stores, providing 100% genuine products and warranty.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions. We would be glad to help out.

Not entirely sure why some other (apparently identical) Delta 2 Max models were advertised as 2048Wh, but it's probably more realistic to expect the lower value on this listing.

    • what is the use case of this other than for camping?

pc ups solar charging seems very over kill

      • I already needed to replace my UPS and I was sick of buying lead-acid batteries every 3 years. Given my peak power rate is 56c/kWh, being able to pay nothing for power for my PC means this power station will pay for itself within 4 years - and not to mention the 'usual' benefits of blackout power availability when needed for the rest of the house.

$10 per panel for a handful of used solar panels, and not needing to deal with the landlord or electrician to take advantage of free power, are pretty solid benefits for us renters.

        • -1

according to chatgpt, pay off period is 491 years.

Even if you scale it up to 24 hours and 900 kwh, thats still 80 years or so. But if you have a lot of cash to burn, why not right?

To work this out, we need to figure out how much electricity your PC uses, then how much that costs per year, and from there how long it takes to “pay off” the $1399 (e.g. for solar panels or a battery system that gives you free electricity).

🔌 Step 1: Estimate PC Power Draw

Here’s a rough guide for average PC power usage:

Type of PC Power Use (W)
          Idle (basic tasks) 50–100 W
Gaming PC (moderate use) 200–400 W
          High-end workstation/gaming 500–800 W

Let’s assume you have a gaming/work PC that uses:
          • 300 W average while active
          • You use it 8 hours per day

          So daily usage:

          300 W × 8 hours = 2.4 kWh/day

          Annual usage:

          2.4 kWh/day × 365 days = 876 kWh/year

💵 Step 2: Calculate Yearly Cost

With an electricity rate of $0.56/kWh:

          876 kWh/year × $0.56 = $490.56 per year

💸 Step 3: How Many Years to Pay Off $1399

          $1399 ÷ $490.56 ≈ 2.85 years

So it would take just under 3 years of running your PC every day for 8 hours to recoup the $1399 investment via “free electricity.”

          ⚡ Want to Adjust?

You can plug in your own numbers with this simple formula:

          Payoff time (years) = $1399 ÷ (Daily kWh use × 365 × 0.56)

Let me know if you want help calculating for a different setup — like a PC that runs longer, uses more/less power, or uses idle time.

          • @Frankensnore: To be fair actual consumption can be 700+W depends on what he's doing with what GPU
And it'd be naive to assume you can only game for only 8 hours a day ;)

            • @High: if you read…. i did say 80 years… can u read?

          • @Frankensnore:

according to chatgpt, pay off period is 491 years

            Excellent research. A+. Gold star.

How Many Years to Pay Off $1399

            $1399 ÷ $490.56 ≈ 2.85 years

If you're gonna quote the clanker verbatim, at least check its work, since it's now just proved me correct.

    • +2

Wait for super with 24gb vram, even though it’ll make 0 difference for gaming, it’ll push the price of this down

      • Fingers crossed… But I bet nvidia/Jensen may be thinking otherwise. There's a heap of headroom in price between this and the 5090. Not so much of a gap between the 5070ti and this to fit a 5070ti super though.

      • With the way things are going if you are gaming at 4k this vram would be helpful in coming years. Especially when next gen consoles drop

    • I actually bought the Galax version of the RTX 5080 the other day for $1780 and have been pretty happy with the performance. It's easy to overclock to get a 10-15% performance boost (while still keeping the fans below 60% and relatively quiet), making frame rates pretty much inline with what the 4090 can do at 4K ultra with ray tracing set to max. I upgraded from an RTX 4080 but sold it at a tidy profit about 12 months ago, was going to wait for the Super variant but since the leaks suggest that there's going to be no performance improvement for the RTX 5080 Super other than VRAM boost, didn't see much point in waiting another 5 months or so and possibly paying in an even more inflated price.

      • Are you undervolting your card?

My OC/UV settings are in my comment below, but I've yet to hear the card hit anywhere near 60% fan speed. It settles at around 52-53 degrees when gaming (and also whilst stress testing with Heaven) at 30% fan speed.

        • I did play around with undervolting but I have yet to find the sweet spot with that so just upped the clocks and power limit for now. My temps don't go above 60 degrees and my fan speed stays under 50% most of the time and that's with no undervolting. I would imagine I could eek out a bit more performance and keep it even quieter and cooler like you mentioned if I really dialed in the undervolting but I haven't felt the need to change anything at this stage as the card smashes through everything I've thrown at it so far :)

          • @merajaan: Do it! Just try with 975 or 950mV.

Yes, the card will smash through everything, but you'll draw less power and create less heat!

    • -1

5070Ti Super 18GB would be better

    • +1

      It's a good card.

I don't have the PNY, but a Palit, but my comments below should still be reflective of the GPU itself.

+330-350mhz core at 925mV and a 2000 memory OC and this thing is running at 53 degrees with 30% fan speed in Cyberpunk 2077.

Granted, we are in the middle of winter, so ambient temps are low. But compared to my 3080 which would be running 60-80% fan speed and still hitting 60-65 degrees, whilst getting half the frames, this 5080 is so efficient!!

      • What core speed speed does that equal at 925mV? I've been playing around too with uv/OC. My card is baseline OC model so trying to compare like for like.

        • 2900mhz is the target core speed. I'm hitting 2880 normally according to MSI Afterburner.

You should be able to do the same. Or at least 2800 or so?

          • @CrushJelly: Thanks. I've been aiming for 2950mhz at 950-975, trying to push a bit extra performance.

    • A number of reports state there is a 'known' issue regarding PNY's cards suffering from fan rattling/noise specifically the ARGB series

  • +7

This is a weird one and won't appeal to most people, but it seems china is dumping large numbers of electric instantaneous hot water heaters on the market.

        • but this is 7500w, is a normal GPO can handle it?

      • Yeah, it's weird. They all change their prices at the same time too. I think they are all frontends for a dropshipper. So when the deal stops, it will stop for all sellers on the same day.
