      • Those masks :D LOL

    • Was there many phones there

      • Last one at this store. Don't know what stock will be like elsewhere. Would be good to get verification.

        • Mean other pixels

          • +1

@chris666: Oh right. They don't actually display the stock, so I don't know sorry. You have to ask at the counter.

    • +1

Pixel 5 due any day. Optus aren't even listing Pixel 4 as an option anymore.

    • +3

No stock in my area. Good price for a great phone

      • Agreed, lots of people complain about the hardware being outdated but great camera and the best UI make up for it in my opinion. After years of LG and Samsung phones which were a bit meh I absolutely love my Pixel.

    • +5

I had a google pixel phone previously. It has some advantage in system update, but the phone quality is not that good. I will not even bother at this price…

      • +12

This. Only Google nerds really push the Pixel. They really haven't made a good phone since the Nexus line and they were only great because of the value to spec ratio.

This is coming from an Android enthusiast.

        • +2

😂 Google nerds. Agree the phone spec is terrible

Design is about 5 years behind

          • @sauce2k: I'm curious - what do you do with your phone that makes the specifications terrible for you?

            • +7

@[Deactivated]: Coming from a Pixel 3 owner who was looking at those really cheap deals for the 4
              - They have pretty poor battery life for the size (the normal 4 was dreadful)
              - Dim display
              - Soli wasn't what it was hyped up to be and was largely pointless
              - Missing features in the Aussie models (call screening isn't on Aussie models even 2 years later, duplex was only introduced this March despite coming out in 2018)
              - Google's very questionable QC and customer support
              - Camera whilst still fantastic at stills, their advantage is no longer huge and Iphone video performance is just better. Pixel 5 won't be too much better given as it uses the same camera system except its an ultrawide instead of the zoom.
              - Slowness to adopt new cameras. The 4, really should've had an ultrawide with a zoom lense. I use the ultrawide quite often on my front facing camera. Even apple adopted it for the 11 pro.
              - Continued frustration at Google's inability to commit to software services
              - Abandonning features. The Pixel 4 got rid of the front facing ultrawide sensor and the fingerprint sensor and added soli. The 5 brought back the fp sensor and got rid of soli.
              - There arent really any horrible Android skins these days. Back when touchwiz existed, stock android was a godsend but now One Ui, Emui and the others arent really bad.

Basically, it's substandard hardware sold at premium prices. However the "a" series phones have been great and the 4a looks to be the best in its price range. The Pixel 5 will be a "premium" midranger. Google is basically giving up on the high end market.

              • @VYCanisMajoris: Interesting perspective. Thank you!

My experience with the phone differs on a number of fronts especially regarding battery and camera, but I do agree with you on the screen brightness and missing fingerprint sensor (doubly-so in the age of face masks!).

I buy my technology based on what it's capable of on the day I buy it. eg features like the AI call screening (very cool) was never confirmed for the Australian market. For that reason, I'm not as disappointed as others might be for lack of new software features. As long as I keep getting timely security patches

My top five primary use cases are (in order) photography, media consumption, SMS/instant messaging, mapping and web browsing. For those, I couldn't be happier.

              • -1

@VYCanisMajoris: There is one very important aspect of Pixel series that has not been mentioned: End user experience!

Nothing comes close to Pixel experience, period. Current Samsung S8+ user here, with family members using Sony Xperia XZ Premium (near stock AOSP), Oppo A52, Google Pixel 2XL, Google Pixel 3XL and Nokia phones.

Unless you have tried, you will never realize how snappy, logical and complete Google Android experience is.

I agree with the comments that hardware is Medium range at premium prices. I guess someone needs to pay for R&D for all those "freeloaders" (aka OEM's that use Google Android for free).

                • -2

@vrsac: Yeah this comment doesn't hold up anymore. They don't even make good software and it looks like (profanity) trash.
                  I bet you use Linux.

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: @OzDJ_: Probably a "bang for buck" comment - not saying it doesn't do all it needs to, but at that price the bang could be greater and thus last longer, or the same bang can be had for less.

            • @[Deactivated]:

              • Battery is a big thing for me the pixel is a major step back for me in this category
              • Camera is single lens..come on now…
              • Small storage and Cloud storage reduction by Google
              • Inconsistent face unlock

The design…….that bloody ugly notch and the chin

        • +2

At RRP I agree the specs aren't great value. Do you still feel like that's true at this price?

        • only the google nerds, what kind of genius puts a tiny ass battery into a phone in 2019 and expect people to buy

          • @[Deactivated]: I agree that 3700 mAh isn't anything special, but doesn't seem particularly terrible? The S20 only has 4000 mAh, so it's what, 10% worse? and that's not even factoring in bloatware that most manufacturers add.

      • +1

Agree the hardware sucks, the non xl version is probably the worst phone I've ever owned.

Battery life is a feature we all take for granted but when its not there … it sucks.

      • +1

This. Was a pixel fan because of the cameras, but these days so many great camera phones on the market.

        • +5

Any with clean ui and updates?

This is a genuine question by the way. I like -
Great camera - don't need gimmicks like 53 different lenses and 600 megapickles.
          Waterproof
          Gets updates for ages
          UI isn't full of rubbish
Back button on the left not the right.
Fingerprint over face id is preferred.
Has actual support, not Huawei or xiaomi

          • @brendanm:

            clean ui and updates

            This. Many times over.

        • As well as Gcam

      • Thanks for that. Saves me from driving around.

      • +4

        There won't be a Pixel 5 XL.

      • +2

To get that you need to sign up for a $65 per month contract and its more upfront compared to this as well

    • Seems like they're releasing the next pixel phone earlier than previous years which is usually November?

      • As Apple got event coming this week, I believe 3am this Wed

    • Solid deal! I'm already using a 4XL and even at the ~$950 price point I paid (not long after release) I feel like I got great value for money.

    • -1

I always feel Pixel phones (not the Pixel A series) are more for Beta testers who is OK with bugs in the OS. tell me a pixel which didn't suffer from major bugs

      • Yea ~ got one for my wife… Regretted it

    • +3

none of Top 4 banks support Face ID on pixel 4. so you have to enter pin like a low end device which doesn't have a finger print scanner (like my current Samsung galaxy S5). applies to most of 3rd party apps too

    • What is the usual RRP for Pixel 4 XL?

      • +1

Kogan currently has it listed for $1019 + shipping. 128GB model is selling for ~ $1200 at the minute.

    • +2

As a P4XL owner, that's a good price for the phone. I'll put it this way though, my next phone will likely be a Samsung.

      • Why don't you like it? I'm upgrading from a Samsung S7 Edge and was intending to stick with Samsung until I found this. Much cheaper than buying an S10+ (which I believe is the closest equivalent to this).

      • +2

Don't buy samsung. Exynos is awful. I hate myself for sticking with samsung. (S20 ultra user)

        • +1

Agreed, My S9 is dying only after around 30 months old.
My last S6 lasted 4 years, which I was expecting similar :(
Can't wait to get my 4A.

        • How would you feel if you had just bought a Ferrari at the same price as US customers only to find that you have e 700HP engine where US gets a 1000HP engine? The engine on your Ferrari also uses more fuel than the 1000HP US model and it gets hot quickly, even after a quick racing session on Great Ocean Road. You then have to make frequent breaks in order to refuel and for engine to cool down. My guess is that you wouldn't be happy and that you'd never buy a Ferrari again unless they released the same specc'd model for the whole world. (all Samsung US Vs rest of world phone analogies).

Samsung is selling a substandard, 2yr CPU in their flagship phones at prices equal to far superior Snapdragon CPU equipped models sold in US, Korea and other "important markets". Samsung, being the manufacturer of the Exynos CPU is pocketing the price difference at the expense of unknowing customers who are thinking that all components are of premium quality.

    • This is a great deal since the Pixel 5 probably use 765G to push the market which will make them to become one of the competitors in middle phone range just like Nexus time. But you should only purchase Pixel 4 XL since the battery is just normal and shut down the radar function.

    • Just rang West Ryde NSW, they said it was $786 when he scanned it, $628 is an error

      • Weird. Are you sure he scanned the right model? Mine was definitely displayed at $628 on the clearance sticker and scanned at the same price, so not sure how that could've happened.

        • Hi, doesn't the image attached show it is the correct model scanned.

          • @noddypiper: Yep that's what he said - he said he has no idea why it was $628 elsewhere

EDIT: Cheers mate for bringing this to our attention though, appreciate the effort. Upvoted!

            • @Gazpacho: Hey mate, did you end up being able to grab it for $628? Will showing them the picture of the receipt help?

              • @sosgold: Nope didn't try. Give it a go if you're keen!

                • -1

@Gazpacho: Gave it a shot but they wouldn't budge from the $786 it scans at. Basically an unobtainable deal.

    • Definitely was marked 628$ clearance at my officeworks (Southport). But the front desk just told me they're out of stock Aus wide now.

      Missed it

    • Will this likely drop even further in the upcoming months?

      • +1

Don't think anyone is stocking this any more, so no, I doubt it. There will probably be deals on the 128GB model, but I imagine it'll be a while before they're this low?

      • +1

normally with big price drop = almost nil stock around

    • I wonder if stores have a range and can set their own prices for clearance items? The same thing happened with the Samsung Tab S5e. It was on clearance and was cheaper here in Canberra than it was in Melbourne.

    • +1

I'm glad mod did the right thing and unpublished a comment above. At least common sense exists in OzB. Love this site.

      • What was the comment about? I am curious lol

    • Im coming from an S8+. im thinking of getting the Pixel 5 or switching over to iphone. thoughts?

      • wait for iPhone 12 launched then decide :)

  • Merged from Gigabyte RTX 2080 Ti GAMING OC 11G Graphics Card $999 + Delivery @ Shopping Express (Open Box Sale)
    Go to Deal

Here is another deal on the 2080 Ti, for consideration as the RTX 3000 series cards will be in limited supply.

Please note this was included as a "Opened Box Sale". From Shopping Express' site:
"They carry the full warranty terms as new, but because the box or packaging may not be up to our standard, we've lowered the price for you"

    • What does open box mean apart from the obvious? Like are they used already and then repackaged? Cheers OP

      • Open box is usually a return or display demo.

    • +13

More like 'Previous owner realised the new 30 series cards are cheaper and perform better so they returned these cards to us'.

      • lol

      • Good on them for allowing that though

        • There is usually a fee associated with returning it for no reason, so they can sell for 1k without loosing any money.

    • +1

Where were you when I needed you? My heart has moved on already, waiting on my new lover to arrive.

    • +2

I asked myself why anyone would buy this at this price and my head started hurting, so I thought about something else.
