      Just went to Woolworths Abbotsford

Nice zoom pic by OP to trick 70ish votes on Ozb

Nothing there on sale on lychees. Dont waste your time. Prob only like 3 on clearance in the picture.

Reasons like this ozb is turning crap when deals like this make front page

    • what! I just bought these from my woolies in southbank, melb square (worst store ever) for $22. I didn't even realise the base price for goods varied from different stores. Melb square is the worst, never discount their goods, every other woolies by 7pm most their baked goods are reduced.

    • Aldi sells for almost that price on daily basis.

      • I haven't see lychees in Aldi for about 3 years.

        • Maybe it was just the store near me? SA Tea Tree Plaza aldi have it at $7.99 all the time.

          • @OMGJL: Sydney store had it.

    • Coles Sandringham has loose ones for $6.44kg

  • Merged from [QLD] Gasmate Voyager BBQ $30 (Was $79.99) @ Coles (Fairfield)

Coles Best Buy BBQ now going into clearance. Less than half price of original price $79.99. Four left at Coles Fairfield (QLD)

    • +1

Anyone seen any of these in Vic?

    • Looks worth about $29

    • +1

Went there straight away after seeing the post. Before hitting the road also called to check stock level was told had 5 left.

Got there no stock. Staff apologised but was not offerred any solution. Didn't want to give up, I called around and found Greenslopes had 5 but the price is $60. Called Fairfield back asking if Greenslopes would price match. Fairfield said yes. On that basis, called Greenslopes again and was successful in securing one unit at $30 definitely a bargain at this price.

      Thanks for sharing.

It’s Clearance so YMMV. Golden Grove are the only store in SA to have in stock. Check the stock at your local city.

I think they’re clearing this one out as the premium edition is taking over

  • Merged from Pioneer DMH-Z5350BT Android Auto/Apple Car Play Head Unit $459 @ Supercheap Auto
    Go to Deal

Pretty good price for an excellent head unit.

I've had this one installed in my car for the last 6 months and it works really well. Wired Apple Car Play/Android Auto, but I don't mind the cable.

Clean looking front on it with no buttons looks very modern and I haven't had an issue using the +/- volume buttons as opposed to a physical knob.

Screen is very good quality and capacitative, which is a must over resistive (yuck).

Meguiar's Ultimate Compound on special too - love this stuff to rejuvenate paint in conjunction with a electric polisher: https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/meguiars-meguiars-ultima…

    • How does screen perform under Sun ?

      • I find it still pretty visible in full sun, not sure how it compares to other brands, haven't had the ability to compare.

    • Bought at release about this time last year. been great however it seems to be overheating on me…
It'll turn on all good, work for weeks, then randomly it'll turn on with the touchscreen being unresponsive, then the next startup will be a pure black screen (fan still running).

This happened when I first put it in a couple times then stopped, only now that we're getting hot weather again it's started to happen frequently, I now think it may be overheating so I'll pull it back out, make sure no cables are blocking the fan at the back and if not might just have a faulty unit.

I emailed Pioneer but they said just "shake your ISO Harness and make sure everything's plugged in" after I told them I've put a multimeter on it and it's getting correct power. Besides if it was a wiring issue the screen wouldn't even be displaying before it became unresponsive haha.

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to know, otherwise yeah I'll just make sure it has as much breathing room. (installed in a 07 HR 350z, so much like the engine bay there's minimal space behind the facia

      • Yeah that could be overheating. I wonder if you check it's not blocked and if Pioneer won't do anything whether installing (MacGuyvering) an additional PC cooling fan for example behind the dash to distribute hot air (if it's building up around the unit). Have it turn on with switched power for example.

I've not had any of the issues you mentioned but perhaps I've got more space behind my dash for airflow?

        • Yeah the manual said it needed a lot of ventilation space which I for sure dont have.
And yeah good idea of have a couple spare 80mm 12v fans, might 3D print a little mount to help extract any heat if that's the case.

It'd make sense though that we've had a few hotter days recently and it's become more frequent

    • Did you have to get an adapter plate and if so, which brand, please (and do you recommend it)?

      • No, my car is 2001 Camry so it's double din by default. Each car is different - check the Aerpro site to see what adaptors/fascia kits you'll need.

You'll also need ISO adaptors if you don't want to solder - you'll need two - Car brand to ISO then ISO to Pioneer.

May need additional harnesses if you have steering wheel controls too, but I didn't need that as I don't have any. Again check Aerpro for what you need.

        • Thanks. When I was last looking (around Christmas) I found the adapters, etc. I'd need, but no good seeing as no stock of the Pioneer 😒

    • Not available at any stores in VIC or online

      • I wonder if you can ask another competitor store to price match?

    • Damn - out of stock around me :( I've been waiting for ages for this to go on special.

    • OP- did you retain your steering wheel controls?

      • Don't have any in my car, but there are harnesses available if you do.

    • Anyone any idea if another company would price-match, despite SCA being OOS?

    • +1

Screen is very good quality and capacitative, which is a must over resistive (yuck).

You just couldn't resist.. could you…

    • There is also a JVC unit that's part of the same sale and they appear to have reasonable store stock:https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/603811

    • Outta stock.

Might do rain checks as it’s a catalogue item.

      • Nope - they don't. I phoned and asked. I then phoned my local and was told that one of the stores might sell me a display unit (which I've done and I'm collecting it in a bit), so you could try phone around.

    Go to Deal

    Before you fellas lose it:

    • Yes there are only 2 in stock. Read below for justification.
    • Yes you don't like apple and everyone who buys such an overpriced phone is a sheep. "I love android, it can do this and this and this". We get it, you are so superior.

Posted because even though there are only two in stock theoretically they should remain in stock if people purchase from Officeworks. I just got Officeworks to price beat for $1,690.05 resulting in the cheapest I believe this variant of the Iphone has been. Make sure 256gb and 'new' are selected in the dropdowns, good luck.

I have a 12 pro max after being an Android user for most my life. Sometimes I get flashbacks about how much easier life was back on android. I miss android

      • +33

        Cool story.

      • What was the biggest difference between the two operating systems for you? What took the most getting used to?

        • +4

Comparing a Pixel 2XL to an iPhone 11 Pro:

Google Assistant is much better than Siri (voice recognition wise).

UI on iPhones is visually dated (hasn't changed much since inception).

I found the touch accuracy to be slightly worse on iPhones but that might just be me.

Apart from that they work pretty much the same way.

          • +2

            @Autonomic: And that BACK button!

          • @Autonomic: Forgot to add iPhone pros:

So many cases to choose from. Great way to change up the look of your phone.

Hardware & build quality is top notch. Not like the Pixels are in any way bad, but iPhones are still a cut above.

        • +2

I miss the ability to quickly dial someone by just starting to put their name into the dial pad. Also, unless you have a Mac, getting files on or off the iPhone in bulk is a ridiculous pita.

        • +1

The reason android was ‘easier’ for me was because of the ability to go around anything.

Want to watch a movie or a tv show that isn’t on Netflix, there are ways to do that within a minute on android.

So on Apple, not being able to do these things was quite annoying at first. However, I have gotten used to it now after some time on the iOS.

I feel like for a simple user, android and apple is very similar. With android, you will always have a sort of unfinished and raw feel to the experience.

My main reasons behind an iPhone were the good resale, long battery life and superior camera for practical usage.

        • Android phones stop getting updates much sooner than iPhones.

          • @Pornboy69er: Pixels receive updates the day they are released and are up-to-date for 4 years - so are Samsung devices and other large manufacturers. That is longer than Apple's "midrange" SE phones are supported.

I have a new android and a relatively new iphone (because work).

Iphones are dead easy. No idea what you are on about.

        • I agree, a phone shouldn't complicate your life. It should be dead easy to do what you need to do.

Yeah I agree with this. I have been a long time user of both ecosystem. With Android you get a lot of configuration options and it is like an open book. But I keep finding myself researching on the best combination of apps, settings, etc and I don’t know where to stop. Then the endless obsession on synthetic performance and screen on time.

With Apple, I like how all the options I will ever need are nicely presented to me and I don’t have to worry about if I am on the best possible combination. Sure it does sound like sheep mentality (LOL) but I get to focus on my day and the phone (the tool) gets me to it.

          • +1

@Davesday: I just got my first iphone, only had an ipod touch a decade ago… Mostly I miss the back button and being able to easily minimise the keyboard. Setting the weather app to the BOM one. And spotify doesnt work with siri.

          • @Davesday: The simplicity of my Samsung Galaxy feels like an iPhone-esque interface in many ways. Everything from the notification shade, to the settings app, to the photo gallery. It's become even simpler with One UI 3.0.

I like the mass of extra options Android give. Have enjoyed YouTube ad-free for the past year with YouTube Vanced, and been able to skip promotional segments with the built-in SponsorBlock. Saved me many hours.

        • +3

As someone who has both OSs and likes both… some things are just completely unintuitive or take an extra step on iOS. I can hardly think of anything that is less intuitive than iOS on the latest versions of Android.

Get a oneplus 9 pro in March and come back to android son

        • Will this be better than the Samsung S21U? Price?

          I'm looking for an upgrade

          • @[Deactivated]: Assuming that the oneplus 9 pro comes with snapdragon. Its almost a no brainer to pick that over the s21u

        • Good idea. My phone is still covered under costco’s 90 day money back policy.

        • OnePlus as a company sucks, their direction is poor as they now rebrand phones without changes from Oppo and they no longer stick to their original philosophy. Plus the Nord was plagued with bugs and their flagships don't do anything interesting anymore. Why would you buy a phone without an Australia warranty, as well? With an absolutely shocking service department?

      • +4

I've been iPhone user for many years. Then recently moved to Huawei 2 years ago. I love the phone and thinking to stick with Android forever. But every single time I pick up an iPhone I always fell in love with its iOS design & interface. It just looks so good!

But then I look at the price tag, and wonder if its worth my money… probably not, most likely just gonna buy the next Google Pixel

        • Yep I hear you. I’m hanging onto an old iPhone 7+. Can’t justify the regular upgrades anymore at the current price points. Will likely switch to android when the time comes.

          • @Slo20: If you switch this year, look out for the S20 FE 5G for around $700 using the JB Telstra plan loophole. Or the Pixel 5 (less powerful) around $700, which was the price after getting Officeworks to pricematch Telstra. I own the FE and my mother has the Pixel, both are great.

There is also a chance there will be a new S21 FE 5G this year.

      • +5

totally agree. The three buttons on the bottom make a big difference.

      • +2

Just sell your 12 pro max, it would fetch enough money to buy current flagship android, why whine about it?

        • It is still ‘covered’ under Costco’s 90 day electronic change of mind policy so even if I do switch back to Android, the money is not much of a hassle.

      • Wow 30 upvotes and 22 downvotes.

    • You can easily get it down to this price if you put in a lil effort and source some discounted gift cards at 10% off. Hint: negotiate with people on classifieds and fb/gumtree, as a lot of people are offloading them above 10% (especially for smaller denominations and especially for Harvey Norman - you can use unlimited at checkout). That’s how I got my 12 pro max on launch day for 16% off solely using gift cards

Posting apple deals actually gets pretty frustrating as inevitably there is always anti apple people jump in and start ranting which always sucks for the person posting who is just trying to contribute to the community and help those who chose apple save a few dollars. I get it…

There will always be jealousy and that’s that

          • +1

@BargainSnatcher: Only on Apple deal. You hardly see the same on Android deal

            • +6

@John: The part that I don't understand is that these people who come into apple deals on Ozbargain could choose an infinite number of things to do with that moment of their life, and instead of doing something awesome, they click on a link that they find offensive or annoys them and post comments like "iChoke at that price".

              • +1

@MrFizz: Because they think their choice is superior hence everyone who isn’t agree with them by buying into apple ecosystem is inferior. And they think all apple users are stupid because they are spending so much money for a product that is inferior.

And here what tick them off, despite their claim of apple products being inferior and over price, but yet apple revenue keep growing and their product keep selling well. This frustrated them so much, so every time they see post on apple products they itched to lashed it out.

I know people who works on top tier tech companies and they all being issued with latest macbook pro, I know designers who bought latest imac pro for more than $10k. I don’t own any of these products, but I’m pretty sure those people and companies who makes their decision to invest into apple ecosystem must have a reason to it. Who am I to say they should do otherwise.

Now back to android/iphone debate, I’m also back and forth between android and iphone. Currently I’m with iphone, and there is reason to it, technical, definitely not buying iphone to show off or because I have too much money. I know there is cheaper android phone, I’m aware of it, but still my decision is for iphone, I don’t care if those apple hater love their android, good for them, it’s their money and I don’t judge how they should spend it.

                • @[Deactivated]:

You do realise that is because tech illiterate people keep buying iPhones anually at sky-high prices that jump up each year, far above their production cost? That is the exact thing people who comment are attempting to counter. Most people who don't understand the pricing are only going to use it for calls, emails, web browsing, photos, which can all be done fast by a Pixel 5 at $700 on sale. It has the same capability, but less of the aesthetic wow factor people are too attracted to.

          • +4

@BargainSnatcher: Not really jealousy, but more judgement as this is a bargain site, and buying the most expensive product of a category will always be seen as wasting money right? No matter the personal value.

            • +2

@onlinepred: Judgement for sure.. but I don't think its because buying expensive products is seen as wasting money. Not many will judge you for buying Dyson/Bose products over other cheaper brands. Also, the term iSheep and the likes does not just apply in bargain forum.

I reckon its just a general brand rivalry. And Samsung also to blame for adding fuel to the fire by making ads that basically mock Apple users. And I think likewise, Apple have done similar in the past against Microsoft. Similar rivalry in Sony vs XBox.. though not really seen here as its not as divisive

              • @John: No not really, even dyson and bose are on the upper mid range of products, the iPhones of that would be even more. For me I would love to buy an iPhone, but it literally is too much money to spend on a phone in my books. It's just a phone man.

If you want a new car, do you just go straight to a Bugatti? Rolls Royce?

                • +1

@onlinepred: There are phones that are more expensive out there than iPhones.

                  • @Scrobo: Yes there will always be something more expensive, mostly a gold plated iPhone, or a diamond encrusted iPhone…..

            • +7

@onlinepred: This is a bargain site but I think it's more about sharing a cheap price on <x> product. Androids aren't iPhone and those who buy them aren't going to be interested in being told to buy Android - most iPhone users know Android exists and don't want it for whatever reason.

I've seen tonnes of things massively upvoted here that I don't think are good value (Voss water, expensive fans, expensive cars, etc.). But just because those things aren't a good deal to me obviously they are for someone else.

I have switched back and forth between iPhone / Android over the years and I'm currently on an iPhone because I don't really use my phone much and it takes good photos / videos which is the most useful feature of a phone for me.

              • @chiefbodge: Very well put.

              • +1

                @chiefbodge:

most iPhone users know Android exists and don't want it for whatever reason.

Most common reasons are: misconceptions about present day Android as opposed to Android in its early forms. And misconceptions about the quality of more expensive products, and how well they function. They are capable of so much more, yet users never need to explore those features if they don't want to. The UI, much like the design of Google websites, are now built to cater to everyone, and there are often accessibility inclusions that aren't found on iOS. Example is very large buttons on the home screen of Galaxy devices, perfect for the elderly.

I'm currently on an iPhone because I don't really use my phone much and it takes good photos / videos which is the most useful feature of a phone for me.

This totally contradicts your argument. User surveys from the likes of MKBHD show the Pixel and Galaxy take much more pleasing photos to the eye, at a lower price. You don't need to use the power user features if you don't want to.

            • @onlinepred: Yeah I think it's mostly this, iPhones are not really a "bargain". Same applies to top dollar Samsung or OnePlus phones, but they don't get posted as much

          • +1

            @BargainSnatcher: Don't be like pred.

        • There are a few products that always attracts shitty people who prefer another product over it and they always flock spewing their BS, imagine not being a fan of a product and wasting your time on a deal website talking shit about it.

      • Bit like the B28 and NFC moaners that appear every time a budget phone for under $200 is posted.

        • They are legitimate concerns. Too many consumers aren't aware of these discrepancies that determine whether a phone can be used in the country, or be used for Google Pay.

      • Even if the Android rant there are Android fanboys in the comment section…
