  • Mine said spend $70 or more.

    • Very lucky, that's even better!

      • No still earn only $50. So it is not as good. :( Spending $70 for 4 weeks is not so easy.

        • oops sorry I misread your post, I thought it said you'll get $70 off. Yeah looks like you'll have to spend extra unfortunately.

    • +1

Yep. Mine was $70 as well. Been trying to minimize the spend on the flybuy card to make it think I’m a low spender.
Please note that you have two weekends to spend $70 so you can do a Woolworth shop on the alternative week depending on what sort of deals or sales you want to target.

      • But that is only for the first week. For the rest 3 weeks, only one weekend each. I might have to pass this one as I also need to use Woolworths online vouchers I bought on ebay.

      • Note that not scanning your flybuys card isn’t enough to mask your spending, as they would have already linked your credit card/debit card to your membership from previous scans. Way around this is to pay cash (or even use Apple/Android pay etc as I think they don’t get to see your card details).

        • -1

If they were allowed to track spending via payment card numbers they wouldn't have bothered with a rewards program.

        • @JIMB0:

They can, it’s just easier with something like flybuys as it can be spread across multiple companies and they can encourage you to spend your rewards backs into the business.

        • +1

@JIMB0: Sorry, you are incorrect. Merchants can track spending via card numbers. However, card numbers change and people use different cards. The rewards program assists with consolidation to a single ID.

        • +1

Use Android Pay (with an Amex) and it generates a unique card number for each transaction.

        • +1

          @Usernames:
This is 100% correct. It's buried somewhere deep in the T&C. They reserve the right to create a token to identify your credit or debit card and then go ahead and record evey use

      • Same here. I was offered Spend $60 X 4 weeks which I activated.

    • +2

      Mines $50
And I get 5% off egiftcards from AGL rewards
So its gonna be a nice Reload Your Opal run

      • Same but I’ll be exercising my RACQ membership for 5% off

  • +1

These are always targeted with different money amounts depending on how much you normally spend at Coles in one transaction. Mine is $50, my parents one is $290!

    • Good to know. I've been doing most of my shopping at Woolies recently so this deal is enough to swing me back into Coles.

      • That's why they targeted you. They realised that your card wasn't getting scanned as much.

    • what is the reward for the minimum spending of 290?

      • +1

It's the same reward. Either $50 or 10000 bonus points.

  • Mine is minimum spend $150 :(

You guys are very lucky to get the $50 minimum.

    • Depends on what your usual spend is. Higher the more you need to spend.

      • Yeah we do pretty much all our shopping at Coles. So we do spend more than $150. Not weekly though. Every 2-3 weeks. Looks like I might need to head to Woolies every now and then.

  • Mine is $130 each week for 15,000 points, was not offered a cash reward.

It means I would have to spend $520 for 15,000 points ($75 coles voucher), OP would have to spend $200 for $50 which is great.

    Targeted…..

    • +4

Thanks, the 404230423 posts above yours didn't make it clear.

  • +1

Mine is $80 😭 $240 of Opal credit here I come (currently have $275 worth over two cards from the last promo where I had to spend $90/week for three weeks in order to receive 6000 points)

    • Is there any other credit you could buy to reach the target when you're not from Sydney? Vouchers or visa credit, maybe coles prepaid credit?

      • Usually they say all gift cards and iTunes cards excluded. I always wondered whether Google Play cards count but I also have too much Google Play credit to risk buying such a large amount and get no reward for it 😂

Edit: Also I can't do Maths; more like $320 of Opal credit here I come …

        • The maximum Opal credit you can have on your card is $200.

        • @ben1980: No it isn't; it's $250

    • How do you recharge Opal from Coles? Can you Please elaborate?

      • +1

Go to a Coles that does Opal top-ups …

        • Oh great… When you recharge Opal from Coles do you get points? Because Woolies does not count Opal recharge as points earner.

        • @karansuper: Yes you do. Which is why I always top up my Opal card at Coles when I have these sorts of offers. But now I have too much Opal credit …

        • Thanx for that… Great info. 😀

        • @kerfuffle:
Not sure if coles does Opal Recharge.
Can you please advise if any store in Sydney does?

        • @vinshi: http://www.retailers.opal.com.au/list.html

The number of Coles that do Opal top-ups isn't as big as Woolies but a number of them across Sydney do them.

  • +4

Got the $50 target for 10,000 points. I know how to split my shopping.

  • I haven't had a flybuys offer from Coles for about 3 months, no idea why. I'm going to open a new account…

    • maybe uodate your detail and email address

  • I just shopped at Coles tonight and then I got this email literally just after I left the store. Mine is spend $60 after getting $50 for so long. So annoying.

    • +1

You can spend the $50 next weekend. Week 1 covers 10 days.

      • It would be $60 not $50 and I hadn't activated the offer when I did my shop tonight. I spent just under $50 too. It doesn't start until Friday anyway.

  • +2

I got the $50 per week

  • Got the $50 minimum as well.

I didn't accept the last few offers they gave so they've bowed down.

  • +1

Think the Woolworths one is better from this week.

    Week 1 Spend $30 Get 1000
    Week 2 Spend $40 Get 2000
    Week 3 Spend $50 Get 3000

Plus you can use egift vouchers and cashrewards.

    Also targeted though

    • I got that offer as well.

  • Mine is $110, too much for me, didn't even activate it.

  • Mines at $60. Used to be $50 each time.

    Still worth it though.

    • -1

      Really though?

An extra $40 to get the same 10,000 points?

      • Spend $60 each week on groceries I already needed and planned to get anyway… and get $50 off the 5th shop? $50 is a huge saving

Even when my deal was at $50 I was spending closer to $60 anyway. Often over it.

        • Next time it will increase again, only a little bit so you don’t notice, it will go up to $70 then $80, etc. I only ever do it when it’s $50 as a single person I struggle to get to $50 especially each week for four weeks. But I do it for the bonus points (worth $50). But it’s up to you, if you can easily spend $60 that’s great.

  • +2

Mine is spend $50 per week/4 weeks to get $50 or 10,000 points.

They were offering me rubbish offers in January, spend $70 or $80 for 2 weeks to get 2000 points I think? So I ignored them and now they're finally giving my account some better offers

  • Got $50 per week. Woolworths offer was something like 3x points, they rarely have good offers.

  • I have not gotten any of these for a few months now. I was told by recent a FlyBuys letter that I was in the top 2% of flybuys earners in australia - I only achieved that by taking up offers like these. My hypothesis is that they are not sending these to top earners anymore - can anybody else confirm?

    • Top 1%. Frequently get good offers. Rarely get free offers though.

      • Are you getting these $50 or 10000 point if you spend X over 4 weeks?

        • Yes, current offers is 4 weeks with $50 target for 10,000 points.

  • 110 for me

  • $90 for me so effectively spend $360 and get $50 back. No deal.

    • +2

It would be if you have to spend it anyways

  • I've never had an email from either, why am I missing out?

    • +2

probably spending too much too often. Loyalty programs reward disloyalty not loyalty.

  • Mine is $280… oh dear :(

  • $110 15,000/$75

  • Lol.. not targeted this time. Got it last few times and didn't care to meet the target :P

  • mines $100 off for 4 x $150 - should be do-able

  • +1

    Mine is $50 :)

  • Mine is spend $130 each week.

  • $70 for me but it took months for it to go down from $110 (which I'd never manage). But i have a strange feeling if i agree to this it'll ramp up to $90 which is impossible again for me.

  • where in Sydney has a Coles that offer Opal top up.. ?

  • +2

I’ve been banking all these points and transferring them them to Velocity. I almost have enough for a business class flight to the UK!

    • Similar tactic here. Collected approx 180k fb points in 2017; was transferring to Etihad but that door is currently shut :(

  • are you allowed to purchase opal credit to qualify?

    • +1

Yes. They always qualify for these promotions.

    • Can you purchase opal at coles?

      • Yes …

      • not sure if all locations. when i tried previously at world square they didnt have it

  • -1

My wife got this offer last night and accidentally chose “choose discount” for the $50 discount instead of “choose points”.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to change back to points? We’re banking these for Virgin flights.

    • +1

      I did this once
Called flybuys and was told they have no way to change this setting back on their end

      • Ah right, thanks so much for sharing your experience.

$50 is still a good discount though, so i’ll have to make do ; )

  • The fact it is per shop and not per week is a deal killer for me. The Woolworths offers are generally per week which means I change from shopping at both stores in a week to the one store. No deal Coles.

  • Why bother posting these things here when a) it's specific to individual card holders, and b) both Coles and Woolies run these things all the time (i.e. as soon as this one ends, the next one will begin). It seems pointless to me, when those involved get the e-mails anyway.

    • +4

So that we can all whine/boast about how high/low our required spends are.

      • Ahh ok, got it! And here I was thinking it was about posting useful bargains.. my bad :D

In that case, let me add that mine was $150 per week for 4 weeks, so I decided to take up the Woolies offer this time around of $180 per week for 2 weeks. By the end of that my average spend with Coles will have dropped, so their next offer will likely be $120 per week for 4 weeks.

    • spruiking coles business

    • +2

So we can see what the supermarkets are up to and game the system better in order to get better offers. I learnt how to do this by reading discussions such as this and worked out better strategies to get great deals.

      • -2

Why not just check your email like a normal person?

        • +1

By reading these types of threads I get to read emails from lots of different people and I have an idea what is out there and can modify my spending on each card to get the best offer.

  • Got offered $75 but have to spend $110 x 4.

  • Mine is $90 per week and it sucks that Coles spend must be in one shop where Woolies offers can be multiple shops during the week. Last offer they had I hadn't read the Coles offer properly and got zilch.

  • New to Flybuys, could anyone suggest why this 'offer' isn't available to me?

    • They will probably send you a different offer with your 'Welcome' pack.

      • Hmmm. It's actually the girlfiend's account. Not sure if she got a welcome pack, but perhaps the account is too new.

    • +1

It takes Flybuys a couple of months to study your spending patterns and demographic information. Once they know your regular spend they'll send an offer for you to spend just over that to get rewards.
