  • Just booked a surface book with performance base which you posted few days ago.. This makes me feel regretful.

    • I didn't post the surface book I think

    • Surface Book should only be bought if you plan to use the pen and multimedia capabilities.

Lol as if a MacBook Air is even on the same planet as this laptop.

      • Dell is the leading laptop brand.
HP and Lenovo is close 2nd.
Apple third, followed by Acer, Asus, LG, Samsung, etc.

As a laptop I don't see where a Mac wins, where it has thick bezzel, heavy body, low-res screen, low-speed processor, impossible to configure spec, useless touchbar, and a very high price.
They do win in good looking unibody constructions, but with sacrifice of non-self-upgrade spec.

They also win in brand, carrying one of those makes you look rich (but maybe stupid).

        • I own two Mac pro as well as XP and HP.
Dell is indeed a leading laptop brand. My comparison is based on durability, quality et al.
Happy to see so many -ve without any good input

        • @codebased: I think Dell XPS is high quality and durable, is it not?

        • @boohooimissout: XPS battery died after 1.5 years i.e. I cannot use without power, where as old mac book pro (4+) still charge for 2 hours.

      • And battery issue overrides everything, I would rather work 10 hours without charging than 4K.

          Different people different need.
I would prefer 4k, crystal clear screen, images, text, etc.

If I'm after battery life, that means I need portability, then I wouldn't get a 2kg laptop.

4K screen for gtx 1050? Lol what a stupidity

    • better than the macbook pro equivalent bro

i never take my laptop out of the house.
battery life means nothing to me.

      • One reason not to is battery life. Another is that you simply cannot run more archaic software or some professional software without downscaling the entire screen resolution to 1080p anyways. So students in engineering and some design/architecture should avoid!

Bought xps 15 32gb 1tb few weeks ago through dfo.
Not regretting at all. Top specs, battery leve life is also decent. I get 4-5 hrs easy on browsing and listening to music.
Haven't tried Photoshop etc on battery yet.

    • I wonder if I should wait for the 8700hq or the 2in1

      • If you need a laptop now, this is a good deal. The 8th gen and 2 in 1 models will command a price premium for some time before they go on sale etc, unless you have access to a student/staff discount. If you can wait, then wait.

  • If you can, wait for the 8700hq. Don't bother with 2 in 1.

    • Could be another 3 months or so though.
I'm thinking I should get the Yoga 920 instead, with i7-8550U and 16gb ram.

I need 2in1, I am a math student and it's easier to do math exercises with pen and paper.
Problem is they aren't always around and carrying them is a bit heavy.

      • The Spectre x360 should also be on your shortlist.

        • Thanks mate.

      • 2 in 1 in 15" is just pure inconvenience in my opinion.

        • Yoga 920 and x360 come in 13 inch models.

2 in 1 15" is useful in presentation modes but unwieldy as a tablet.

        • @Stefce: I think a 15 inch convertible at 2kg is not convenient. But the 13 inch at 1.5kg makes sense.

Why shouldn't i wait for 2 in 1? I am lazy and want to play windows game while on the bed. Surface book 2 or this one is the one that capable to achieve that.

    • SB2 cost too much for me. Hard for me to justify the price.
