  • Will it work with NES Classic and SNES Classic?

    • +1

You need an adapter for that I believe. They don't have bluetooth built in.

        • +4

          They don't (the classic consoles)

        • -2

I thought he meant the controller doesn't have bluetooth

I thought you meant the original NES had bluetooth

          @Kangal:I bought though…
Even though I already have the nes30 pro and fc30 pro… Bloody Oz bargain

      • +1

Yep, you need a small receiver purchased separately. I have one for my snes mini and NES30 Pro, works great.

    • +1

Can get the adapter on ebay for like 15 dollars from China.

    • +8

A quick google could have answered that for you…

      the pro version does

Looks like you got you a Marlin!!!!

    • +1

I guess the 8bitdo label on the controller wasn't enough to tip you off?

  • Is Rosegal any good? Never heard of them.

    • +3

They're fine. I've ordered a couple of things through them. No issues.

    • +2

beats Roselad by a long shot

    • +11

Not true. Companies like Hori make (some) controllers that are better / cheaper / add missing features from the originals.

    • +3

Not true, 8Bitdo is one of the exceptions

      • They feel alright but wireless will always have lag input so it would be annoying to speedrun wirh

        • This is true but every product has its purpose. A speedrunner would not rock a wireless

  • +2

    Work with nvidia shield tv?

    • +2

      Yes any android tv box.

    • +1

      Yep

  • Is there a sega megadrive version of this?

    • Is USB megadrive controllers but not wireless yet. Only wireless ones are with the mega drive classic unit

      • I am using megadrive controller with usb adapter on pc but would like megadrive controller with the 2 sticks and extra buttons on the back similar 2 this.

  • +1

I love the 8bitdo gamepads quality. My pet peeve is the stupid startup button joypad emulation mode selection. (eg. XInput mode select, Standard Mode, iCade mode, Keyboard Emu mode etc). If you dont remember the combo, it will start up in the wrong mode.

    • I've got one of these and it's printed on the back of the controller, though I've found just turning it on with the start button has had it connect in the Xinput mode. Not sure if it turns on in the last mode it was in or what.

I've rather liked it so far, though mine was a bitch to get working wirelessly. Half of that was the fault of an old dongle (managed to find a good new one heavily discounted), the other half was the first time I flashed updated firmware it seems it didn't apply correctly (it wouldn't connect to ANYTHING outside of usb, not just the bad dongle), so I just reflashed. Now it works like a dream.

      • The firmware updates do make it better.. but with the classic NES ones, they changed the key-combos for the emulation mode twice already from previous versions of firmware! Again, Pet Peeve.. sorry. lol

Confirmed work with Wii U as well, recognized as Wii U Pro Controller

    • Can you compare this with the Wii U Pro Controller? I'm curious as I'm having a damned hard time finding one. If this is just as good, I might as well get this.

      • No I dont have wii u pro controller. I can only relate to xbox, xbox controller is more comfortable

      • WiiU pro controller would be arguably more comfortable and will certainly have a far far better battery life.
Not that the 8bitdo pads have bad battery life, just that the wiiu pro just has an insanely long life. I think I charged it once or twice while beating zelda, which I played well over 100 hours of.

If you only want it for your wiiu then you can probably find a pro controller cheap now,if you wanted to use it with PC/tablet/other deivces then the 8bitdo is a great controller.

        • Haha cheers, but there are no cheap Wii u pro controllers out there man! They're all so expensive.

      • Ignore :)

        • I scored 2 Wii U pro controllers. One from FB and the other off eBay. I have to say, the build quality is heaps good.

        • Nice, I remembered your post and initially replied with https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Black-Wireless-Bluetooth-Remote-… (additional 20% off with current ebay deal), then realized they were aftermarket :(

Glad you got a couple of official ones. The battery life is legendary.

@CountDuckula: Yeah I'd been reading the aftermarket ones weren't good, so made sure to get the official ones.

  • should work with the Switch as well?
    Edit: yes it does

    • Any ideas whether this would work for steam pc ports of xbox/ps4 games?

      • +1

Not sure if there are drivers but you should be able to get third party apps to map it.

      • It has switchable DInput and XInput modes, so will work with pretty much anything on PC

      • Yes it works as well as any other controller without any mapping required in Xinput mode.

However, it can be a bit confusing as it uses the old and current nintendo button layout while these games will generally show xbox button prompts - A/B and X/Y are reversed.

  • Does anyone have experience with the mayflash adaptor?

    • +1

Yes, I have the Magic NS. I use it to connect my Xbox Elite Controller to the Switch in wired mode. I haven't been able to get my Xbox Elite to connect in wireless mode using the PC wireless adapter - not sure if that works. But pretty sure it works wirelessly with regular Xbox controllers.

      • Thanks for replying, the elite controller to PC wirelessly is what I'm planning.

Edit: looks like bluetooth is needed for wireless which the elite controller is not.

        • Elite Controller to PC wireless can be done with the Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows. Grab one of those instead - I think I paid about $15 for mine, secondhand, but that was ages ago.

        • @caprimulgus:

yup I knew that was the alternative. I just wanted one less adapter if I were to also connect it to a playstation. Thanks though.

    These might explode, beware.

    • +3

      Same with my car.

      • You guys should trade

  • +1

I got one of these from Zapals, in the process of returning it as it doesn't power up.

There's quite a few reddit threads on these controllers and the issues people have. When they work they work well, but there seems to be a production quality issue and a number of them that go out are faulty.

    • maybe why they are cheapening

  • -5

This looks so dodgey, also more expensive than the logitech f310. Not sure I understand the point of it.

    • +3

It is a retro styled controller that is FULLY FUNCTIONED for the Nintendo Switch (has all the buttons, indicators, motion controls and rumble for the Switch), and also works as a Bluetooth controller for Android and other devices. AND it's super compact for a fully featured controller, and much more portable than any alternatives for the Switch (besides the joycons).

I have a Logitech F710, which I do really like as well. And a Switch Pro Controller. And an Xbox Elite Controller. But the SF30 Pro has it's place amongst all of those - indeed, I would say it is the most versatile of the lot!

  • I have the retro compact version, not bad for a small pad in your backpack. For other casual gaming i ended up getting 2 of gamesir g5.

  • +1

USB-C? I almost want it just for that, dayum.

    • The only downside is it can't hold phones.
You can get a "8Bitdo Phone Clip" but that's extra ($10+) dollaroos, and it doesn't tuck away for easy storage.

Still…. does anyone know how it compares in quality to something like the GameSir T1s ?

  • Rosegal rep has sent a new coupon LIFERG29, same price as other coupons but a new coupon for AU only so should have more uses than the existing overseas coupon. Deal updated.

    • +1

Thanks. I was searching for one just today and thought to wait hoping that ozbargain would have something in the near future, but wasn't expecting to be this quick. :P

  • Will it work on a PC using mame emulator?

    • Yep. Acts like a standard controller

  • Can vouch for this controller 100%.

Yeah it might not be as comfy to hold as a Pro Controller for the Switch, but the build quality is solid! The controller doesn't feel cheap by any means, especially the joysticks. I purchased a second one just now, not sure if there's going to be any latency issues with having 2 of these SF30 Pro controllers connected to the Switch at once, but I'm currently rocking a Pro Controller and this and haven't had any issues as yet. Not to mention it's much more portable than the Pro Controller too :)

  • Will this work with N64 games on retropi? or is it better to hook up PS3 controllers?

  • will this work with PS4?

  • Anybody know if you can get thumbstick caps for the 8Bitdo controllers? If so where to get?

Rather protect the controller thumbsticks than have the sticks wear out like others have experienced with these controllers

    • Not sure, but if you find some, let us know! :)

I must say, I find the grip on the thumbsticks is pretty fantastic, so I hate to cover it up…but I guess wearing down is going to be inevitable.

  • These have had a copyright claim put against them for design infringements, so best to get in quick before they have to pull them and change the design

  • Geez, it would take more than 30 BUSINESS days to have it delivered for free. I've cancelled my order.

  • Nice one. I've ordered some to go with my NESPi case.

  • anybody get theirs yet, the stupid tracking site will barely load, says arrived in sydney on the 15th, but still do not have it.

    • Mine shipped on the 8th and not received yet. Though not expecting to get it for about 30 day. Which seems the usual tome for free delivery from China.

      • Received yet? I'm still waiting ordered same day as you

    • Still waiting here! The tracking page is dead now too so no way to track it anymore either

    • Mine arrived yesterday, ordered on the 17th of March

      • nice, still nothing for me

    • +2

Still waiting on mine.. I use this for tracking now which is working I think http://www.eslink88.com/index.php/Shipment-Tracking/

      • Thank you for the link :)
Mine has been sitting in Sydney since the 15th :p

        • Same here as 0xFFFF. :(

        • Same! Taking 2 weeks to get to VIC wtf

        • @Cyphar: rosegal got back to me, says to check post office or wait till delivery cut off date of may 4th.

  • Same. :/
    Also waiting on this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/363798

    Not using RoseGal again.

  • Still waiting. To be fair it said 10-25 business days.

Tracking says it was shipped on 14/03/2018.

    • Tracking now says:

03/29/2018 08:45:00 AM Sydney Received And Clearing

      It didn't when I checked on 5/04/2018.

  • Still not received. According to the link above, it's been stuck in Sydney since the 15th of March.

  • Same here, just remembered I ordered.

    Still waiting. Ordered 6/3/18

  • +1

Called AusPost who referred me back to Rosegal. Their response

Basically, even though the estimate delivery date is up to 25 business days, they are now saying it can take ANOTHER 25 business days. And they use Toll for their courier service here.

Needless to say I'll be putting in a refund

    • LOL @ peak season for the shipping companies.

  • According to tracking link, mine has been stuck in Sydney since 21/03, saying "Received and Clearing"…???
    Ordered 9/03

  • Mine's been in Sydney since the 15th also. I reckon these guys are having Mario Kart parties or something over there.

  • Same here, stuck in Sydney, makes me feel better that at least its not just me, same with my NESPI Case that has been stuck since the 15th

  • +2

    Still waiting…
