    Is Hans, Is Good…

Looks a good deal, my 2007 Hitachi 42 inch LCD still refusing to die otherwise I'd be on one of these deals like a 'rotund' kid with cake.

    • Hmmm, I'm in the same boat, my 2007 LG 42inch LCD is also still alive and kicking. Wouldn't mind an upgrade to 70", but might be a tad too big for our small lounge room

      • +3

It's not too big. Go for it! ;)

        • +1

          That's what she said!

      • If you go for 55 inches the Sony x9000e at GG's eBay has never been cheaper at $1276. It's $200 below the cheapest pre-Christmas price and is a terrific telly

        • +1

where is the x9000e on there ebay site??

        • @auir:
It's not on there. He's probably confused it for another model or something. X9000E would had to have been about $1600 in the first place to get that price… Still a little while away from those prices. Even the 49 inch hasn't been that cheap yet.

      • once you tasted big you wont regret.

Definitely the Hisense, this Sony is really low end, equivalent to the N5 series.

    • +1

Logic would say go for the "branded" one. But I've had so much so y tvs fails just right after warranty expired. Either the tuner would break or the TV would just jot turn on. Get the hisense

  • +1

Good price for a 70", but average TV.

  • Got one with pickup, hope it fits in my sedan 😂

    • Good luck!!!

    • only if on the roof…

      • Hope it's a Tardis sedan.

    • +3

No way it'll fit in a sedan. When I bought my 65" I hired a ute from Bunnings. Cost me about $30 and had the TV same day, rather than paying delivery and sitting around waiting for the delivery guy.

      • Awesome thanks for the tip, I’ll try and organise that. Will be much easier i believe

          Just don't crash!

wow I'm surprised they still make "dumb" TVs as some people would just prefer to have a monitor and have external devices handle their inputs (consoles, foxtel box, etc). BUT, after purchasing a smart 4K tv powered by Android, I would say I would never go back to a dumb TV again. It's so quick and responsive, I use an app on my android phone to control the smart features of the TV, my PS3 which used to handle all the netflix playback now gathers dust as it can't handle 4K content anyway. So there's my 2 cents.

    • +2

Wait till the SMART functionality becomes obsolete, or is no longer supported.

Being an owner of an LG SMART TV and a few other gadgets (PS4, Apple TV, Kodi Box etc), there are times I wish I just bought a DUMB TV.

      • Wow, I can get negged for writing my honest opinion… even JaxSantiago and ctfo sees the value in dumb tvs!

        • For the record i didnt neg you. You've been negged even before i posted my opinion.

        • You're basically saying dumb TVs are bad in your comment. As someone with a smart TV more than a year old (3/4 y.o. iirc), it is a nightmare to use. Slow and clunky even without updates. And even with a newer one updates are likely to slow it down. The benefit of a dumb TV is the ability to switch out the attached device for a smaller financial output.

        • @phil1311: I guess you are right I should have worded my post better. I meant to say that some people just want dumb TVs because they have all their media needs from their devices, and that's perfectly fine for them because they can pay less by foregoing the smart features. But even this deal for the sony TV isn't a truly dumb TV, it's got smart features as well.

      • I have an LG smart tv and I think they should be embarrassed to use the term. I'd rather intuitive than whatever it is they call smart.
If using an amp, I don't see anything smart a tv needs to do.
If not, then plenty of hdmi connections, and a usb port.
I'd rather use my laptop to find youtube clips than a remote control with a hundred micro buttons.

    • I control everything through my Xbox one, so dumb tv is well worth the money. I have apple tv plugged into the xbox as well so works with my iphone for mirroring.

    • I dunno, I've got a 2017 LG OLED with Netflix and Plex and all that yet I still use my Mi Box on it instead of the smart TV stuff. The smart tv stuff isn't bad, but the mi box is better. I wouldn't miss anything if the TV didn't have all the smart stuff.

  • Any reviews or people own this?

Sony website says has netflix, so doubt its too dumb.

Missed out on the Hisense N765 that didnt happen:-(

    • I never went to the product page, but you're right it's "smart" just not "android" smart

    • +1

i cancelled the purchase and got refund back, and ordered one on ebay afterward same day. got a call today and will be delivered tomorrow, sunday… saved $400. lucky i got one on ebay after i cancelled the order in store.

  • could i pay ebay the good guys with good guys gift card?

  • Nice savings, good one !

  • Ugh why did I have to get the 5 year warranty on my 4.5 year old KDL60R550A that just died. I WANT NEW TV!

  • what are the odds of additional stock tomorrow?

    • seven to one

      • Local store has 4 in stock but obviosly won't do the ebay deal. 7 to 1 is good. Better than 0

  • Contacted TGG on Friday querying the possibility of re-stock - the response on Monday:

"Unfortunately we do not have any 70" Sony models listed on our eBay outlet store. "
