        FC makes one of the cheapest in-house movement perpetual calendars. Their slimline and classic models are quite reasonably priced for someone starting their journey into the horological world. As for resale, you probably would probably get back 40-60% of the purchase price if it is in good condition.

      They are expensive, but these are the lowest prices I can find. Except on eBay , some are a little cheaper with a vendor named hot-brands, who I excluded because they lack an independent website.

    Omg. There is 1 that I've been eyeing for so long. Just curious since it is over than the tax free threshold for import, how do we calculate the extra duty I need to pay? Or the price listed is already included with any duty that might come with it?

      Not sure if GST is included, if not and it's over $1000 just 10% GST plus brokerage fee if it's coming through courier companies like FedEx. And if you're lucky it might slip through the customs.

      If it's over $1,000, customs charges will be around 14%. Make sure the strap is not made of alligator skin or something exotic.

    Just a heads up, to those they may be purchasing their first mechanical watch.
    Keep in mind that they should be serviced every 5 years, and the service alone may cost more than you're prepared for, and in some cases pretty close to the purchase price.

        It's like a car, regardless of use, even if it's not driven, and seemingly not "required" it should still be done if it's going to be used and expected to work correctly. The lubes will dry out, and stop working as intended, and then start to damage the movement.

          My Seiko Kinetic went for 24 years and I never spent a cent on it.

          Just recently got the battery changed which cost $120 including pressure test and service.

          Could probably do the battery for a fraction of that.

          Never doubting what can be done, but what can be done versus best practice can be vastly different.
          I am sure I could come across someone who hasn't changed their cars oil in 24 years too. Sure the forces and precision are vastly different, but the point still stands.

          My point it, it's a mechanical item, as such, beware that there is an ideal service model that is vastly different to a quartz watch, and a much higher cost associated with it.
