Good deal for someone who wants the package.

16gb is the SD card for those who can't be bothered looking.

**edit, I don't know why you been down voted, because your referred directly to my comment which I appreciated or maybe I saw it as a positive and it was a negative, darn you positive thinking!

    • +2

Or an ozbargain price for the new boards?

    • +1

Not until upstream pricing and stock stabilize. It's rather hectic at the moment!

  • What about just the Pi to clear out some stock Rep?

    • Ordered a kit, but yeah some Pi only deals would be good too.

  • HI OP.

I tried to follow instruction but I never got to put the code in…

could you check New Order # 100088264.

          Now that's service!
          It's like a Doh! insurance.

      • +3

This is what you call service and catering to the OzBargain audience.

If there's any other store reps reading this, this is how you treat your customers.

  • Is this something you'd use as a media player (streaming) for your TV, or nah? I want to buy a cheap small computer to have hidden behind the TV w/wireless mouse/keyboard, so we can watch TV shows w/o laptop.

    • It could be, kind of depends on why you aren't choosing a Chromecast or Apple TV to do the same job… It'll be able to use plex or xbmc or something to stream from another source but trying to attach a bunch of storage to it might prove troublesome.

      • Chromecast/Apple TV require you to have paid subscriptions to Netflix etc right? I just want to open firefox/chrome and stream stuff (that I have not paid for) and youtube.

        • No they don't

        • Chromecasts and Apple TV require you to have subscriptions to anything you'd need to have subscriptions for anyway (i.e. netflix) as for everything else, in other cases if there's an app for it you can probably use that to 'cast'… generic web pages beyond that are possible but potentially finicky.

If the effort of having to maintain another device with a Linux OS isn't a big deal for you then yes, you could use the raspberry pis for this. I just suggested the streaming devices as they'll invariably be easier when doing the same tasks. For everything else the Pi will give you more versatility.

Sounds like you want a kodi box like the xiaomi player that is advertised a lot on here. Whilst the pi is ok, the other boxes are better and come with a nice remote.

      • +1

If your TV is HDMI CEC compliant you can just use the TV remote to control the RPi . Our TV's quite old now and it works fine , even better because it's one less remote .

A Media Center is a very popular use for Raspebrry Pi. Take a look at some YouTube videos for "OpenElec Raspberry Pi". You could re-flash that card in a heartbeat with whatever software you'd like to run. You can attach additional storage via USB. Lots of guides out there - If you are unfamiliar with Linux then Google terns that come to mind when trying to find how to do something with Linux, eg "external hard drive raspberry pi openelec"

These days LibreELEC is recommended over OpenELEC.

        • +1

          OSMC is much better

          @donkey:
          Advantages ?
          i quite like openelec

    • +3

I prefer LibreElec for Kodi over OpenElec. It's been updated for the new 3B+ as well.

      • Damn, you beat me to it :)

      • Openelec just wasn't being updated soon enough for me. I had updated my PC and needed the newer version of kodi on the pi to connect to the same database version, so that's when I found libreelec and have been converted ever since. No issues with it at all!

I love my Intel Compute Stick, as you can use any streaming service (Netflix, Foxtel, Amazon etc), play virtually any file type (including HEVC), have a full internet browsing experience, and use Office apps etc - perfect for travelling or using as a cheap (around $160) small PC in the lounge at home.

However, I do not use it as my everyday media box, as using a remote is far easier to use than the keyboard for media playback and turning on / off etc, and the user interface is much easier to use on a dedicated media box (especially for the missus and kids).

Android boxes are very popular. Special deals turn up on Ozbargain fairly frequently. I love them and have been using them for yonks. I have one similar to the one on this link arriving soon, i hope? Cost $45 delivered from China, which takes a month or so. The one in the link looks like decent value considering the delivery time. I attach mine to the back of TV with velcro.

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/X96-Mini-4K-TV-BOX-Android-7-1-2…

      • if all people want is a media player, the chinese android boxes are an easier path then building using the raspberry pi, and they come with a remote.

    • I'm running a pi2 as media centre and server. It runs Plex as a DNLA, Sonarr/NZBDrone to automatically trigger torrents and transmission for torrents as well. I've also set up a samba drive on it. Works flawlessly and never had any issues with it. Massive bang for the buck.

It wasn't hard to put it all together. Just followed some tutorials I found by googling.

      • so i assume, you are running VPN on pi2? which one?

  • Is it worth getting this if i already have snes mini?

  • +1

Recently ordered few things from them. Shipping and communication was excellent. Would recommend!

  • Hi Core, any NesPi cases in stock? It doesn't want to add to the cart, but doesn't say out of stock either.

  • Genuine question, what do you do with these things, I looked at the tutorials and nothing really clicked for me?

  • I'd advise getting the new one I've this old one, is the same price and you get greater wireless connectivity and even better wired speeds. Plus .2ghz increase in CPU speed, which is sustainable for longer.

  • This deal is matching this deal on Aus Amazon: https://tinyurl.com/y8zodc39. The only minor difference is the brand of the SD card. Core Electronic (Class ??) vs
    Toshiba (Class 10)

    • and this one here comes with a Official Raspberry Pi Power Supply (RCM approved, 5.1volts @ 2.5amps)

  • This is cheaper, and it is the newer version. Using BANK10 discount on eBay.

Your neg is invalid as that code is targeted and this offer isn't. See here - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/366920

Also appears to be the same version not the newer.

      • Fair enough, I have asked them to take the neg away.

  • Great group
