I have lost interest about google phones when they stopped support for nexus 6p.

    • +20

I lost interest since their price go up like crazy after Nexus 5.

      • +2

The last Google phone I owned was the Nexus 4. Such a good phone for the price.

Took me a while to accept the cost of the Pixel but I much prefer it over the iPhone and Samsung.

I do hope they bring back a cheaper line of phone in the future.

I do hope they bring back a cheaper line of phone in the future.

I think they leave that to third-party companies like Xiaomi, Nokia, Motorola …etc

          @dealspider:
for some, its not about the price. some prefer a phone with 3-4 years of updates with stock android.

        • +1

@darshu: Actually I was referring to the Google's Android One project which focuses on bringing Pure Android experience for less money for what they call "Android for emerging markets (focusing countries such as India and China).

        • What do you prefer about it? I'm still on the fence…

Aaah I remember buying my nexus 5 for $400, I thought it was a steal!

        • My Nexus 5x 32gb for $447 from JB-hifi. I am quite familiar with the price as I've replaced it under warranty several times (bootloop, failed earpiece speaker…)

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/238438

        • @WaywardOne: I got my Nexus 6P 64GB from Mobileciti via eBay for $740 (after cash rewards). Not willing to spend more than that for a premium Google phone.

  • Google would have been my choice if they had this waterproof like the Samsung Galaxy phones.
Anyway, will re-evaluate them when they manage to update their tech to my specifications. :)

It has a rating of IP67, which was enough to protect if from my usage in the pool :P

    Google Pixel 2 XL 128GB - $1349

HAhahahahahaha. I would be really hard pressed to buy this at $800 and I'm a google phone fanatic.

    • as a pixel 2 xl user, the camera, stock android ans general fluidity of the os, makes it well worth the price, especially with the discount.
remember that apple is selling a phone for $1829!

      • +4

As a Pixel 2 XL user, I would much rather the 2 year plan on Telstra with all its inclusions for an extra $67.

Btw Apple could make phones for $2500 and people would still buy them.

        • iPhone X right now is $1397.

Gone are the days when Google offered an affordable alternative:(

        • @Chickfilo: And here are the days where Google is actually serious about their phones. I know which one I would take any day.

The Nexus was just another phone, nothing that special about it.
The Pixel line up is actually competing with the top dogs though.

  • Do not updated to 8.1 on this phone yet. Multi touch bugs there. Typing on p2xl

Google phone is overpriced POS after nexus 6p

  • I got a Nexus 6P just less than 2 years old. It is a slug. They screwed up the Nexus line after Nougat.

    • +1

My 6P still races. Wtf you do to yours?

      • +1

hahaha… nothing. I got very few apps, I don't play games. After Oreo update, everything seems to run so damn slow. Occasional bluetooth issues as well.

        • I have had that blueooth issue since the first day.

        • Oh, I'm on 8.0.1 still. Are you referring to the 8.1 update?

        • @KLoNe: yes. Mine on 8.1.0

      • How long have you got it? I bought mine from mobileciti and use it for 1 year and 4 months then got "Bootloop of Death".
Contacted mobileciti and they refuse to deal with it. Will not going back there for second time.
Mate of mine bought Nexus 5X from JB more than a year and got bootloop issue took it back to JB and no question ask. They take it to repair free of charge.
My Nexus 5 from LG is still running until now. I decided will never get another huawei phone ever. I label it a bad hardware manufacture company.

        • Really, all from that One experience, or more bad ones?

        • +1

@ozhunter68: My Nexus 6P got "Bootloop of Death" like less than 2 weeks ago. Because mobileciti refuses to help (No second chance given lol) I moved on and got the pixel 2 xl deal from JB last week. Partial reason for the sake of 2 years warranty. Thanks for the ozbargain community for posting awesome deal at the time of needing one. ;)

        • @esdarwin:

Yeah, fair enough. A 6P outright in Australia would have set you back a bit ( looking back at posts a bit over $600 ), even at end of life on sale at mobileciti. That pixel 2 xl deal from JB last week was great, two years warranty is a bonus, so can't blame you there. JB do handle warranty well most of the time from what I hear.

I took a punt late last year and ordered my first and most expensive phone ever, as a grey import ( after reading a very informative message from the knowledgeable hamza23 re the pros and cons of buying grey imports ) , a Moto G5+ 32GB/4GB so wish me luck there. So far so good. Enjoy you awesome pixel 2 xl, great phone :-)

      • Same, mine has been fine.

Was better on Telstra plan $59 a month. Worked out to cost me $240 over 2 years.

    • I considered this but I'd already purchased a 365 day plan from Kogan last November. Wasn't sure if I was able to transfer that.

    • hey how does your math work?
not mocking you just trying to understand

      • I wanted to transfer to Telstra, optimal plan was $49 with a few gigs of data. This deal came out giving 15gb data and a free phone/google home mini for an extra $10 a month. 24 month contract so I got more data and a phone worth $1400 for $240.

I also switched my wifes plan which was a $99 phone plan with an S8, cancelled it and paid it out, transfered to telstra and got the pixel 2 xl. Save $40 a month, plus sold the S8 for $700 which covered the pay out of the plan. Was a great day for me haha.

Then not me, but my parents were both out of contract but liked their phones (iphone 6s), they were on $79 a month, they changed to $59 and sold the two pixel xl2's for $1200 each. So they are saving $20 a month, and made $2400.

        • +1

sold the two pixel xl2's for $1200 each.

Lying on the internet is cool now?

        • @KLoNe: What?

        • cheers mate! dunno what klone guy is on about
ill get mine on thursday :D
currently on optus with contract finished
first time porting into telstra! excited haha

I have owned the Nexus 6P and now a Pixel XL, been extremely happy with both of them, but the pricing is ridiculous. Any phone over $1000 is unreasonable to be honest.

I guess the one advantage of purchasing via the Google Store is the warranty. My Nexus 6P was a second hand phone purchased through the Google store, when it eventually died, the warranty experience was excellent. They gave me a full refund because they couldnt source a replacement phone within a reasonable time.

    • Yeah I agree. My fast charger stopped working and I contacted them through the chat support on the phone. Got a replacement sent within a few days, no fuss.

    • Wow, did not know Google sold second hand phones?

    • Google sell second hand phones??

      • +1

No, I purchased the phone on Ebay. But warranties are transferable in Australia. The phone itself was originally purchased from the Google Store.

Just make sure the seller gives you all his Google Store purchase paperwork. So if you are in the market for a second hand Google phone, look out for phones that were purchased direct from Google Australia. Its worth spending a bit more for the excellent warranty support.

        • That's great to know! Thanks for sharing!

  • +2

Phone is great, but I would never spend this much on it.

Go get the Telstra plan, it's much better value.

  • +3

Amazing value. I'm going to buy two for a dual screen + SLI + RAID setup.
