There are places without a local Woolies?

        My one suburb has 3

        • +1

Funny that, I have 4 Coles (3 in the same postcode) in the space of one Woolies in a different postcode (although to be fair, another Woolies is almost finished being built)

  • What happened to the tuna fisherman?

He got replaced by Serena, a fisherwoman.

    Mercury Galore

    • +1

Canned tuna is from smaller tuna, the big ones go to japan.

Smaller younger tuna = less mercury. Don't worry about it.

      • The mercury in canned tuna depends on the type of tuna that is used

    • +1

If you are concerned with Mercury don't buy this tuna as it is Yellowfin.

Buy one that has skipjack instead as Yellowfin can have three times more mercury

I eat this like 3 times a week, i'm fine. People worried about mercury but go out and smoke a pack a day and drink alcohol, right lol

      • +2

I eat lots of canned fish, tuna, salmon and sardines, maybe 2 to 3 times a week for decades. I do it for the health benifits.

I had my mercury levels checked at my yearly checkup a while ago.

        It was low.

        • +2

I agree, all this melodrama about high mercury levels in tuna is ridiculous.
I ate it every day for 6 months and my mercury levels maybe changed by 0.2%.

          People need to stop worrying.

          @pennypincher98:

Oh well more for us when it's on sale

        • salmon and sardines are low in mercury, that's why i prefer these smaller fish.

bigger fish higher up the food chain, like yellowfin tuna (as the one in this), may contain more mercury.

      • i neither smoke nor do i drink more than a serving a week.

      • neither smoke nor drink….

        • I roll my tuna into my cigarettes and smoke it, then eat it.

      • tmercury poisoning can show up after many years though

  • seems a bit fishy..

  • -3

no sale…deal smells a bit fishy to me

  • -5

Im getting off the tuna hypetrain. I always had tuna for lunch at work and discovered in the last deal post how the "better" yellowfin had more mercury :(

also no interesting google results for "sirena tuna" + "mercury".

    no more tuna.

    • but it tastes so good…

    • Someone is easily swayed.

Bought 10 tins at Woolies on Friday. Its a tunafest!

    • Yeah I have to admit this stuff is pretty good. First timer here, I got 6 from Woolies, will get a few more this week.

      Only ten? Rookie.

    Sirena>John West>Greenseas

  • I purchased some Sirena tuna from Woolworths this week for $2 per can. To me it looks and tastes exactly the same as Aldi's $1.85 cans. Both the Aldi and Sirena product are made in Indonesia. Wouldn't surprise me if they were from the same factory.

If Indonesia is anything like Thailand, only the printed label on the tin changes while the contents remain the same:

    Bon Appétit

    • that is why fresh fish is better

  • is Coles slapping on that BS 6 per customer again

    • No mention of any restrictions

  • Got to woolie, larger Sirena tuna cans, $2 per can.

Coles scanned in at $2.50 for Sirena Tuna 185g, even though the ticket on the rack was $2, save $0.50

  • If you haven't realized when the tuna is half price and you check the price per kg it's just slightly lower than what the big can goes for on normal price.

I agree that Aldi most likely sells the same tuna at a low price on a constant basis. Coles marketing is just tricking you. As an example Omo 4L = $24 normal price. Omo 2L = $20 as a normal price…would anyone ever buy the 2L? So they do half price on the 2L and everyone goes mental while you save about what you spent on other overpriced products shopping at coles/woolies.

    • when the tuna is half price and you check the price per kg

Sirena Tuna 185g on special $10.81 per 1Kg

it's just slightly lower than what the big can goes for on normal price.

      Sirena Tuna 425g normal $16.82 per 1Kg
