    7 year old processor?

    • +12

i'm still using an i5-2320 theres absolutely nothing wrong with them at all for any reason

    • +6

In case you missed it, Moore's law (or the cpu-speed derivation) died long ago.

      Its not too shabby:
      https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i7-2600+…

No USB3, but has pci-e slots for that and a video card.

      • What kind of video card could you put in this?

        • +7

Could fit a 1050ti there is a ssf version out

        • +1

          Betamax

        • @DrunkTechSupport:
but will its 250W psu have enough juice to run it?

          1050ti recommends 300W I believe?

        • It gets it's power through the pci slot which is only 75w so it will work

    • +3

      Core i7 2600 3.4GHz (4C/8T)

processor is not the issue here
this cpu has no problem for today's mainstream usage

    • +2

I have an 8 year old i7 (laptop). Still running smooth. The latest ones are more on the energy-saving side compared to these ones I believe.

    • +1

      "that is correct"

      I've a Q9400 & it still runs fine

      • +2

Haha I'm still rolling with an e8400 and it's holding up well

        • +1

I've got an e6400 running a media server fine lol

        • +2

@ccsvchost: Got various systems using Q6600. 10+ year old quadcore cpu still working fine.

    • +1

7 years old, and still a ripper for gaming: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UhvDhDZ8y0

      $197.10 for a full system.

  • +1

Old processors are still good for anyone who uses internet stuff and social media.

    Movies and music.

Only pros or people producing content will notice the difference.

Also i can vouch for ACT.

My old work once bought 50+ pcs from them, and most were a-ok.

Since they're already second hand, theres no question about swapping the few faulty ones. No testing, if we lied, they re sell them!

    Not bad :)

  • Would this be any good for gaming with a GPU thrown in it?

    • I have the 2600k and it is amazing no regrets not upgrading to anything new

      • Can it do 4k YouTube alone attached to a 4k tv or will I need a gpu for that?

Thinking of getting a sff 1050ti but if it can do 4k videos by itself then the gpu can wait and I can get the tv sooner.

        • +1

Nah you'd need a gpu for that unfortunately

        • @DrunkTechSupport: can recommend the cheapest or most reliable one? That can fit in this case.

        • In not sure on the exact case clearance but the MSI GEFORCE GTX 1050 Ti 4GT LP would be the best for 4k

        • @DrunkTechSupport:
A GT 1030 is cheaper and can handle 4K Movies, and light games (<2006 and eSports).
But yes, I would recommend a new GTX 1050 Ti-LP/HH firstly.

Or if you're really thrifty a cheap'n'used GTX 750 (SE version with HEVC support).

    • You can run a LOW PROFILE GTX1050ti in these machines. They are a great value gamer for under $500.
It has to be a low profile version of the 1050ti because the case is SFF and has half height PCI brackets.

      Example, https://www.ple.com.au/Products/628402/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX1…

      Video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w45ZOcXXzs

Works with the Optiplex SFF 990, 9010, 9020.

      • will the psu on the SSF 990 be enough for a 1050ti though?

        • +1

          The SFF 990 has a 250w PSU.
On the side of the box the 1050ti says a 300W or 400W PSU is recommended. These recommendations are always waaay over spec.
The Low Profile 1050ti cards are only powered by the PCI slot so that's 75w max.

I can personally vouch for this combo working for years in about 30 enterprise machines in a harsh envorinment..and it's well documented online as a great budget gamer.

          It will definitely run.

        • @tumor:

          Thanks for confirming mate

    • 1060 is still the best value per dollar gpu , so if you can ever find a full size tower that can fit that for cheap, get that instead.

The 1050ti is usually fine though. I play Nier Automata on high in 1080p.

  • I use an i7 one of these at home. We had a few of them at work that were still going strong at the 4 year mark. I took it home, threw in a 250gb SSD and installed Windows 10 and it absolutely flies! Perfect for every day interneting.

    • What about 4k videos and 4k Netflix YouTube?

      • You want a video card with HDMI 2.0 for that.
Or a dedicated ARM TV box- Roku, AppleTV etc

        • What is the cheapest one that can do it and fit in this system just in case the budget gets thinner.

        • @AlienC: I would say get the 1050ti if you want to do 4K netflix and youtube. Usually would recommend the 1060 6gb, but the 4gb 1050ti should have enough vram for 4k?

      • I mean you will probably spend more money on a 4k monitor and decent internet connection.

  • +1

chuck an SSD in, and you've got a pretty decent PC for day to day requirements for very cheap.

    • Throw in a low profile 1050ti and you're gaming too. Far cry 5 on mine. Med-high with a couple of things turned down. Less demanding things overwatch for example it runs no worries. All 1080p, high res might struggle.

      • +5

        Can it run crysis bruh?

  • Does this ready to go, I bought one of this from another seller for the office and need to call Dell to get the Windows activated.

    • do you have any laptops or computers with windows 7 or 8 in the house? look for the cd key for them and enter that you should be alright

or you can buy keys for a few dollars online… or you can install windows 7 and upgrade it via microsoft to windows 10 for free

or you could just use a crack

      • which site to buy windows 7 for a "few dollars"?

        • +2

          http://www.allkeyshop.com/blog/buy-windows-10-professional-c… 7 euros
          https://www.g2deal.com/windows-10-professional-32-64-bit.htm… 12 dollars

but you dont even need to pay for it. you can still get a completely legit copy of windows 10 free of charge directly from Microsoft.

          https://www.techradar.com/news/windows-10-free-upgrade-is-st…

If you were stuck, you can install a pirate copy of windows 7 > click upgrade > completely valid legit win10 from MS

If you were really hard up most people take photos of the front and back of their laptops when they sell them on eBay and you can see thousands of valid keys at all times!

        • @donkey: lol 12 dollars is more than "a few dollars" I was expecting like <$5 for windows 7 Key.

I don't like windows 10 and looking to use Windows 7 as long as I can.

        • @donkey: Can the same key be used in 2 computers?

        • @Homr: I think 2020 is when Microsoft stops making security updates for win 7. So will need to move to win 8 or 10 then for safety.

        • @rodie: Oh nice, 2 more years

Windows 12 will be out by then hopefully

        • +1

          Try USA eBay.com
Around $5 aud for win10pro key only

  • OP if we wanted 10 of these with Win 7 Pro is that possible?

    • Yep that isn't an issue, place your order and shoot us a message on eBay and leave a note on your order.

      Better be quick, selling fast

      • No worries. How does the i7-2600 compare to a i5-3570?

        • Depends what your doing. But probably not much. The 3rd Gen will be a new machine though.

        • @Calmago:

Office PC. Currently got an i5-3570 with 4gb ram running 32b Win 7 Pro. Getting sluggish and was looking to upgrade.

Edit: Oh and i'm guessing 8gb is DDR3? Also will this handle Duel Screens?

          Sorry, a lot of questions I know…

        • +1

          @bemybubble:

The only difference would be the Ram & HDD configuration. CPU performance for office related tasks won't be noticeable between the two.

          990's have 1 x VGA & 1 x DP, so yes two screen.

          Yep DDR3

        • @bemybubble:

Sorry just to double check, 32bit installs? If it's 32bit it won't see more than the 4Gb. What are they been used for diagnostics or old software.

        • @Calmago:

Yea but I imagine your machines are 64bit?

        • +1

          @bemybubble:

Yep by default everything is 64bit. We can do 32bit, but it won't use the full amount of ram available.

        • @Calmago:

Legend. Thanks for answering all queries.

        • @bemybubble: the i7-2600 will not be an "upgrade" from your i5-3570. The reason your PC is running sluggish is because of that 32bit windows 7 with 4gb of ram. Over the years windows 7 has become even more taxing on low ram systems. easiest way to "upgrade" is to install windows 10, or to install much more memory (i.e. 8-16gb for windows 7)

  • Can this run any game?

    • Not in it's current configuration, no. You'll need a discrete GPU.

      • So how much for a graphics for this pc? Do these guys selll any and can they install it?

        • We do not sell graphics cards.

        • @Calmago:
Nonsense… this thing can run Solitaire, why would you play anything else??

        • @Kangal: soldat and liero ftw.. subspace continuum for the oldies.

    • Solitaire and Minesweeper still work ;).
Get a graphics card if you want more serious gaming.

    • You can run a LOW PROFILE GTX1050ti in these machines. They are a great value gamer for under $500.
It has to be a low profile version of the 1050ti because the case is SFF and has half height PCI brackets.

      Example, https://www.ple.com.au/Products/628402/Gigabyte-GeForce-GTX1…

      Video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w45ZOcXXzs

Works with the Optiplex SFF 990, 9010, 9020.

  • bought one, so to ask later in true ozb fashion, does it have HDMI/displayport?

    • can this fit a 1050ti?

      • lol you tell us mate

      • you mean can 1050ti fit in this? comment above said yeah, apparently there's SSF version of 1050ti?

  • +3

honestly far better to buy the one with a 128gb SSD and the i7 4770 that was recently posted for like $80 more?

    • Or you know buy this, and sell the RAM for $300 to minors…

      • DDR3 ram isnt the problem

        • I know, my comedic material has been stretched-thin :(

  • this is going to be a perfect acestream box to watch live HD sports (sky f1, PPV boxing etc) on the tv :)

guys, just make sure you install this bios: http://www.dell.com/support/home/au/en/audhs1/drivers/driver… to sort out the recent CPU security issues.

  • This is an awesome deal. Thanks Op. What a great bargain. Might pick up 2

  • Been looking for a cheap laptop but how would this go plugged into tv for tv streaming and surfing etc? Presumably I'd just need a wireless keyboard and mouse?

    • also need displayport > hdmi adapter like: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Displayport-Display-Port-DP-Male…

      • -1

nah thats probably no good, you need an active display port to hdmi adaptor… I got a 6870 GPU and using that cable wont work to any monitors, but the active one does

        • Nope the Dells should be fine with a passive cable. I use them all the time at work.

        • @ashanrath:

Any chance you can confirm these Dells pass audio via DisplayPort?

        • @FeZZa21: I think so, but not sure. Most people in the office turn on mute - don't want to give away they're getting Facebook messages all day haha.

        • @ashanrath:

          should be fine

          good one.

          https://www.dell.com/community/Desktops-General/3-monitors-o…

As there are different configurations for the OptiPlex 990 system, three displays may or may not work.

        • @donkey: That's taking about the use of the DP to split DVI adapters, they're a whole other kettle of fish that use a proprietary adapters that are a pain in the ass to get working reliably on these boxes. By contrast HDMI passive adapters are supported natively by the DP (and DP++) spec.

        • @ashanrath:
everything I've read so far on the web suggests you can only get audio out of a DP++ port and not the standard DP which the 990 has. looks like I need to hunt around for a cheap low profile video card that passes audio via its HDMI port.

  • Anyone getting 'Unfortunately, this code no longer works. Please continue with your order.' when ordering?

    • Oh, the code has endeed….:(

  • Ooooooo noes, ebay canned the discount code. I'll update this with the 5% off.

  • Are sff muvh smaller in size than normal desktop? Ang difference in speed or operation etc?

    • yes they are much smaller and more portable. You can pretty much grab the whole case and move it around with 1 hand.

No difference in speed etc since the CPU and Ram etc are all the same.

      • ∆∆Ditto

  • Can i connext this to 2 Dell 24” monitors? Thanks

    • depends which gpu u put in

    $265 pickup cpl 1050ti

    Was $239 earlier in yr.

    • IMO for a cheap as chips but still good price to performance build as these SFF boxes are - better off with a 1050 than 1050ti for low profile cards at the moment. The 1050 is around 40% cheaper but performs about 25% slower.

      http://www.ccpu.com.au/show_prod.php?class_id=video-nvidia&p…

      • 1050ti i onli picked up in Jan18 for $239
the gaming comfort made it easy decision for Ti Lp
