  • Almost the perfect phone at a great price…. Such a shame theres no card slot… or maybe it does…Im getting conflicting info…..can someone confirm? Oh and no headphone jack ….Doh!

    • +2

      I'll double check.

      • +5

Has a dual sim slot, microSD card can go in the second slot. No headphone jack though, but has an USB-C to 3.5mm adapter though apparently. No Band 28, but for the price, the specs are awesome - and NFC is a bonus. I need a new phone to replace my busted Redmi Note 3… I think I've just found it :)

        • edit - maybe this doesn't accept microSD in the 2nd slot - conflicting information on a few different sites :(
        • +3

Yeah that's why I was second guessing myself. Geek should have a definite answer for me tomorrow.

        • Well as per gsmarena.com it does support micro SD card

          https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/m.gsmarena.com/zte_nubia_z17…

        • +1

@Curiouscat: Thats where the conflicting info s coming from…. Everywhere else says it has no card slot….

        • +4

It doesn't take a Micro SD card in its second slot. I asked GeekBuying and people I know who own the phone.

      • -5

Image of a cheat on your business handle? Way to go genius.

        • +2

OzBargainers have been loving my different Gravatars for longer than you have been here. This has nothing to do with GeekBuying.

        • -5

@Clear: Er, well it does if you labelled yourself an Associate. Duh.

        • +2

@Gershom: But an associate isn't recognised as an Official Store Rep. Geek already has those accounts and it's not me.

Steve didn't even know about it until after it was exposed on the big screen. If you can't have light hearted fun then you're on the wrong website.

        • -3

@Clear: Er, what, a bit of lighthearted ball tampering fun? Yeh, a real one slapper that one.

        • +1

@Gershom: My Gravatar is light hearted fun and has been the centre of many jokes in the past week in all the joke and legit deals.

        • +3

@Clear: Saw 7 new comments on this deal and thought I'd have a look to see what was new.

All I saw was Gershom having a cry about your gravatar. Wtf.

        • @illumination: April Fools really put people into sour moods.

    • +1

Its OS is based of Android. Nice hardware for the price… wouldnt touch a home brew OS.

  • +6

OP, I usually ask you the origin of your avatar pic, but I don’t have the balls this time

    • +11

Just rub it in some sandpaper and you'll be good.

  • Wow that spec sheet could easily go for $500 in current market conditions. Awesome price for that hardware

    • +1

Despite being able to easily sell it for $500 in the current market conditions they chose to forgoe $300. The current market conditions are every phone maker except Apple and Samsung are hardly getting by.

      • +4

Im not sure about $500 easily…. I was tossing up getting the LG G6 (Au Stock) for under $550 recently and Id definitely take that over this at that price…..

No doubt this is an excellent price for this phone though….

  • +1

Is it better than an Axon 7?

    • +2

axon also has band 28 and oreo is not far away.

    • +1

And Snapdragon 820 in Axon7 vs Snapdragon 653 in Nubia, but this has 2GB more RAM

  • Can it run Android 8.1?

  • +5

    Beware of this dodgy business.

I ordered an Android TV box late last year, which turned out to be faulty - wifi keeps dropping out every few seconds. They asked me to return it, which I did, and they confirmed they received it on 9 Feb. Ever since I've been chasing with them. However, they refused to refund. They simply stopped responding to my emails. Now I have to open a PayPal dispute to get my money back.

It's okay to buy some cheap stuff. For me I would never give my money to these thieves.

    Just a warning.

    • I never received a PM from you? If you haven't done a PP dispute yet I can get this sorted for you.

      • +1

Clear, I pm-ed you twice if you haven't checked your messages

        • +4

Ahh yes I see it now. Turns out the PM search feature doesn't search by username. I'll follow it up with them.

    • +3

Warranty would have to be a big concern when dealing with this firm. Thanks for the warning, xiangtan.

  • +3

Perfect except for lack of B28 :(

    • Yep, just like most of the current and next gen crop of super popular Xiaomi phones that heaps of people here ( including me, a RN4 Global ) are buying.

Although I really like this as well as the Mi A1, and the Xiaomi RN5 pro etc. for me, as long as I reside and use my phones in my current semi rural/regional area, will never purchase a phone again lacking the B28.

For now I will keep my RN4 for all the Kogan Mobile Free/Cheap XL 23GB/30 day and various Cheap Vodafone sim starter pack offers as all these phones do have the added B5/4G band that Vodafone uses just for streaming my entertainment. That huge battery on the RN4 is hard to beat for that.

      • What is this b28? Something to do with bands I'm assuming.

        • +4

Yes, in order to get decent or sometimes even any 4G recetion/speeds in a lot of areas outside major built up population centres of our Capitol cities, for Telstra and Optus ( including re-sellers ) you're much better of having B28. Especially going forward into the future, most new towers for Telstra & Optus will be B28/700mHz regionally. It also helps in subways or big buildings too, deeper penetration of signal due to low frequency, just like the B5/850mHz that Vodafone uses for the same purpose.

Of couse, if you like many here on OzBargain live/use phone in an area where this is not relevant, it does not matter to you. Also like some people do who mainly use their phones on wifi for entertainment like watch streaming video or play games, then also not relevant.

  • Anyone know how good the camera is?

    • -1

Very good. On par with galaxy s8 i'd say (I have the nubia z11)

      • +1

Actually it's Nubia z11 camera that is great, z17 lite is somewhat average

  • +5

    (Wet Finger Recognition)

    This is the best feature

    • Why would someone have wet…..oh.

      • When you wash your…. oh

  • +2

S*** that's an awesome price for a very well speced phone.
Plenty of custom ROMs, including resurrection remix.

I'm so tempted to buy this phone but I don't need one, if this had 3.5 audio jack and SD card I don't think I'd be able to resist it.

    • +1

Can you link to the custom roms? I couldn't find any.

      • Dang, Just rechecked it's for the none lite model :(.

  • +3

As everyone else has already pointed out bloody good specs for the price. Incredible that it has NFC as well. That seems like what could really differentiate it from other Chinadroids at this price.

Finding one with these specs at a slightly higher price is probably possible, but not with NFC…

  • Is the blue colour model available at this price?
When I tried to put in cart, it would only give the discount on the black one, I like the blue.

  • +1

Sorry I’m new to Android. Got a few questions:
    1. Is there such thing as official Google Rom? Can I install the official google rom instead of the Nubia home brewed OS on this phone?
    2. How does this compare to the newly released RedMi Note 5?
    3. How long does it take to ship to Australia?

      1. Not yet.
      2. See a few posts below.
      3. Mine arrived in about 3 weeks back in Feb, but Chinese holiday at the moment means taking a bit longer.
  • +4

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVP9rveRGIw

As per this video, Lite version does have SD card support upto 256GB (while its bigger brother doesnt)

Please check if you have Blue color for the same price

Not according to this reviewer… Seems very thorough and I'd believe this one

    • +3

pinned comment on that Youtube from GeekBuying:

SORRY!! There's a little mistake in this video. The Z17 Lite doesn't actually have to option for expandable memory with an SD card. Our sincere apologies!

  • Does this phone work with Optus simcards? Most Australian sim cards?

Says it works with the following bands:
    3G: WCDMA B1/B2/B5/B8; TD-SCDMA B34/B39
    4G: FDD-LTE B1/B3/B5/B7/B8, TDD-LTE B34/B38/B39/B40/B41

But on the Amaysim website, it says these bands?

'The Optus Mobile Network uses multiple frequencies (LTE 700 / 1800 / 2100 / 2300 / 2600 MHz) to provide coverage. Your device will need to be unlocked and compatible with at least the 2100MHz, 2600MHz or 900MHz frequencies to be used with an amaysim SIM card.
To get the best possible 4G data speeds, you’ll want a mobile device that supports the 700MHz frequency.'

    • Different naming scheme, so just look up the bands to find out their frequencies.

    • +1

The only one it is missing is 700MHz (B28).
700MHz is important outside capital cities on Optus or Telstra.

      • Thanks a lot, that clears things up for me. I live in small city so it should be fine.

  • anyone having problems with the code not working

    • ok it has to put through in $us as per post , i did $au ( dummy )

  • +3

Tempting… but I'll wait for the Redme Note 5 Pro I reckon.
Very little 3rd party dev for the lite model so it seems.
256 SD card appears to be supported via 2nd sim slot.

    Z17 Lite

    Pros:

    • NFC
    • 6GB RAM
    • USB Type C, QC v3.0
    • Bezel-less design
    • Good cams

    Cons:

    • Very limited 3rd party dev
    • No 3.5" audio jack
    • No B28
    Redme Note 5 Pro

    Pros:

    • Newer/better SoC
    • Will have extensive 3rd party dev
    • Good cams (apparently)
    • 3.5" audio jack

    Cons:

    • No NFC
    • No USB Type C
    • RAM dependant on variant
    • No B28
    • Note5 pro current AliExpress sale with cash rewards bonus is about $230 .

      Waiting for mine to arrive

      • is this price for 32GB or 64GB variant ? Also, is this price in USD or AUD ?

  • I thought this was AMOLED I'd prefer the full screen type for 5.5 so it's back to Meizu M6s with Samsung Exynos 7872 2.0GHz Hexa Core more powerful than SD 653

  • For the SD card question. I don't know about z17 lite. In china, they have z17 mini(single front camera, SD card supported) and z17 minis(dual front camera, no SD card support). From geekbuying website, looks like it is z17 mini. So it should support SD card. The information is from http://www.nubia.com/en/phones/z17mini/specs.html (english offical wetsite 4gb ram,Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 ) and https://m.nubia.com/nubiaz17mini/whitegold6g (chinese offical website, 6gb ram,Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 ) and https://item.m.jd.com/product/4746262.html?sid=2a0dffb48517b… (chinese B2C website, 6gb ram,Qualcomm Snapdragon 653 ). the 6gb version is the same as geekbuying one. Can't see z17 lite offically.

    • do have z17 lite on Geekbench. So not sure how the SD card support.

  • +2

I've been waiting so long for a good cheap phone under $250 with the golden ratio of B28 + dual sim+ NFC that I can't remember what I wanted NFC for- it's not contactless payments.

  • Is this EMMC or UFS onboard storage?

EDIT: found the answer - EMMC 5.1

    • It's in the specs I posted.

      64GB EMMC 5.1 Storage

  • OP, is there any reason why geekbuying is rejecting my payment using 28 degree credit card? I don't wanna use paypal cos of the high exchange rate.

    • You should add 28 Degrees to your Paypal account and set it to use its own currency conversion to avoid PP's fees.

      https://www.paypal-community.com/t5/About-Payments/How-to-ch…

      • Thanks mate. Followed the link and changed the payment method to sellers currency within paypal so appears to be working. Paid extra $0.38 US for quicker delivery

  • So bloody tempting with the NFC available. Torn between this and redmi note 5

    • Do you have a link please? My search returned too many results HERE

      • Sorry i actually haven't found a deal yet for the redmi. I was thinking holding this off for the redmi

  • OP, I do not see an option for AU Express Shipping. Did you mean Australia Direct Line which comes up as free shipping? I do have other items in the cart, is that why I don't see it?

    • Australia Direct Line is AU Express.

  • Slight downgrade from Snapdragon 835 Z17 means no IR blaster, is that right for this [$100 cheaper] Lite model?
Also cut off 24-bit/192kHz audio support; Samsung sensor replaces Sony for the Selfie/2nd cam.

  • Have been weighing up Xiaomi's old flagship Mi 5 for value as well https://shopmonk.com.au/xiaomi-mi-5-gold-32gb-ram-3gb 249.0
Anyone get one? Read no news on that to receive Oreo either; however Xiaomi global beta ROM released this month FWIW

Mi 5: No B28 nor even B5. 3GB, 32GB. 5.15" stand significantly as cons. but what if for a more balanced feature set overall?
    * IR blaster is present
    * Optical Image Stabilisation advances main camera forward
    * FHD with "excellent color rendering" opposed to Z17 off in accuracy
    * 3.5 mm jack present for convenient, lossless audio (replacement bluetooth has lacked certain aptX HD/LDAC for too long)
    * Mi 5 impressive audio play through headphones against ZTE sub par requires external DAC to repair defects if into that.

https://www.gsmarena.com/zte_nubia_z17-review-1630p7.php so thats hard to decide.

  • Would anyone buy a ZTE handset? I have read they send user data back to Chinese servers.

  • Hi OP, if I order now, how long will it take to be delivered. I will travel overseas on 17/04/18.

    • +1

I wouldn't recommend ordering it so close to going away. Even with express there could be unforseen delays.

  • Hi there, can you please confirm if this supports FM radio or not. Thanks

  • Can the Lite version be used with the same cases as the regular Z17? the dimensions and connectors/buttons positions seem identical

    • +1

      I can confirm - Yes.
I've had this phone a month or so now.
      Z17 cases fit well.
Z17 tempered glass are slightly small, but very very close. Close enough for me.

      • thanks for the reply, I'm trying to make a decision between this and a xiaomi. I like the 6GB of memory but the lack of a 3.5mm jack makes it a hard choice

Edit: the elephone s8 also seems interesting

  • @OP, do you know how long will it take to ship? It has already been over 10 days and no update.

    • There had been a holiday for several days in China. What is your order number?

      • order #4513449

      • hey mate, any news?

        • Customer Service should be in contact soon.
