I've been watching this for ages too. About 50 years. Surely we can see something new by now.

    What's the cord for?

    • Compatible with any standard analogue landline.

        (it was a joke :)

    • So you don't lose the handset.

It also has better quality and faster sound because the air can't slow the wireless signal.

      • Is that why the wi-fi is worse on a windy day?

        • Only if you have doors or windows open.

Rainy and windy days breaks wifi outside. What the wind doesn't blow away the rain washes away.

  • This should be standard issue deterrent to telemarketers

Anyone who used a rotary phone in the 80s or earlier would never want another one.

    • +1

it was a breeze back then, especially with the shorter phone numbers… can you imagine how long it will take to dial a mobile number on one of these now!

      • +2

Reminds me of the scene from the film 'Lethal Weapon 4' when Chris Rock's character and Joe Pesci's 'Leo Getz' are discussing telephone related issues including the problem of dialling long phone numbers on a rotary style phone.

Why buy with nbn making these useless?

    • You could retrieve calls but not make them with this on NBN.

      • +1

It's a tone dialling rotary dial, so it'd work fine over any network.
These type of things are all the rage in the UK lately. Then again, they don't get outside much…

so is sending people to jail for a joke, or arresting people for 'mean tweets'.

        • Wow, Tone dialing rotary. maybe next time i will pick one up.

The link OP posted to me above states that the phone has 'authentic look and feel with built-in modern technology'

      Maybe it will work?

      http://www.gporetro.com/products/category/rotary-dial-teleph…

EDIT: it also says 'Compatible with any standard analogue landline' and 'Compatible with modern telephone banking'

      so maybe not? I dunno

It will work on any network as it uses tone dialling instead of pulse dialling.

Pairs well with our national broadband.

    • Turnbull endorses this phone. 12Mbit is all anyone will need.

      • +1

I wish I was on 12 Mbit. I'd settle for half of that if it didn't drop out too.

      • anyone but him. Guess he didn't vote Liberal.

I haven't had the satisfaction of slamming the phone down on telemarketers for some time now!

I like that it's red so I can call in some nuclear strikes.

    • It was originally made for Kerry Packer.

  • Not as cool as the Aussie Telecom 802 which are worth decent money in red or black.

  • Description does say it can do sms

  • Holy Bad Phone

  • Traditional Rotary Dialing Telephone

How exactly is this a tradition ??

    • Antiquated is a better word than tradition.

Bit like our antiquated national cricket players.

    • It goes back to the time when caveman rotated trees for long distance communication.

  • Tis' quite a bargain, I remember i paid ninety pounds, eight shillings and twopence for these.

  • 48 Australian dollars… Hmm how much is it in my Tasmanian Peso's?

    • Are Tasmanian Pesos worth anything at the moment when Tasmania doesn't have power?

  • +1

    Out of stock

  • It doesn’t support pulse dialling, so it’s not “traditional” enough for me.

  • +2

Should come bundled with a bonus pencil.

  • If anyone wants ones, that isn’t just made in 2018, an actual retrospective one and lives in Melbourne hit me up. I’d sell them one for less.

Should I post this in classifieds?

  • Let this be a reminder of the lesson; anything old and obselete is going to be worth a lot eventually to the sucker hipster who pays heaps for "antiques".

Pity my folks ditched their old rotary phone.

  • +1

not as cool as the Garfield phone.
