Cashrewards Refer-a-Friend: $10 for Referrer, $10 Instantly Approved for Friend

2330

Hi all. We've just doubled our Refer-a-Friend rate for a limited time. Simply click the link and request friends to sign up. Once your friends sign up, they will each get $10 instantly approved in their new accounts. As the referrer, you will also instantly get a $10 pending amount paid into your account once the friend signs up. What's the catch? The friend must make at least one qualifying purchase of $20 or more within 90 days of joining for your $10 to move from pending to approved. The friend must have at least $10.01 in their new accounts before they can withdraw their funds. Increase ends December 17, 2018. Happy shopping, and thanks for the support :)

In summary…

  • Friend receives $10 (approved) upon signing up.
  • Referrer receives $10 (pending) upon friend signing up.
  • Referrer's $10 moves to approved once friend makes at least one qualifying purchase of $20 or more within 90 days of sign-up and transaction is approved.
  • A qualifying purchase means any purchase through Cashrewards which results in cashback to member (therefore excludes WISH cards etc).
  • Referrer Bonuses are exempt from redemption until friend has accumulated $10.01 (friend must have at least $10.01 approved in account).
  • Friend must be a unique individual, who is not a member of your household (including yourself), and who has not previously registered with Cashrewards.
  • Please read the full Refer-a-Friend Terms & Conditions here.

I'll just add this message which I've mentioned across a few posts recently. A few months ago, our development team introduced a number of fraud detection tools as we discovered more and more accounts were being opened purely for the purposes of gaming the system. This is (1) costing us loss of revenue, (2) is a terrible look and not instilling much confidence for our hundreds of merchants as they decline transactions they consider 'fraudulent', and (3) is against our terms & conditions regarding creation of multiple accounts.

A perfect example is the recent Amaysim promo where we found numerous members creating new accounts purely to take advantage of 'free money' and then attempting to immediately cash out with no intention of ever using those accounts again. Not only is this strictly against our terms, but it's spoiling it for the hundreds of thousands of genuine members we have, as merchants then become hesitant to provide promos and higher cashback rates. We all lose.

So please note, if we detect accounts are being created purely to game the system, they will be shut down and monies forfeited as per our terms & conditions. All we want is a fair and level playing field for members and merchants alike. Thank you.

Time to swipe right and make some new friends

  • +1

Does this also work for acquaintances ?

    • +1

I loved that show. Well liked it.

  • +16

A few months ago, our development team introduced a number of fraud detection tools

I'm afraid this is affecting legitimate transactions as well. I've been having issues with CR as of late, and this sort of explains it. Over the past 3 months or so I've made a few big purchases on ebay that were not tracked, yet the smaller transactions seem to be tracked as usual. I've also made a big purchase for flight tickets a week ago, and that seems to not have been tracked too.

    • +6

Me too! Same issue with eBay

    • +10

Hi maburu. Any tracking issue you may have would be totally unrelated. These tools work 'after the fact', not during any transactions. Happy to look into the issue for you if you like.

      • +13

Just a follow-up on my comment from above, TA was able to help me with the transactions in question. Thanks TA!

  • +9

Me too- flights as well. So much song and dance to go through to get it and in the end, get told I had not turned off Adblocker- which I had. I'm not bothering with Cashrewards any more- that's my 'advice to friends' couldn't refer it to them.

    • Hi Buzymum. If you were told AdBlock was on, then it must have been. Happy to send you a screenshot of your click showing AdBlock status. PM me if you need this. Thanks.

      • +4

TA, I've noticed that some websites don't load ads, and some complain I'm using an adblocker, when I'm using Firefox browser with no add-ons. This hasn't caused me any problems with CR, but do you know if Firefox has an built-in blocker of some sort? Firefox was installed from Mozilla website, running under Linux.

        • +3

Do you have tracking protection enabled? That might be it. Or third party cookies being blocked

        • +2

What TarquinOliverNimrod said about tracking protection could be the culprit. More info here:

          https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1094758

        • +3

@Clear: Hi Clear. Thanks for the feedback. Been madly searching for an answer, and I agree this may be the culprit.

        • +1

          @TarquinOliverNimrod:

          Thanks everyone, that was it.

If anyone wants to test their browser, one of the sites that has trouble is http://sudoku.math.com

If you have tracking protection enabled, you won't see an ad on the right-hand side. And as per the link that Clear provided (below), a shield appears at the left of the URL bar.

        • +1

@Russ: Great feedback Russ. Thank you :)

    • +2

They always blame the retailers, i use same computer, broswer for ebay.

The 2 dollar purchase get tracked but another 200 dollars purchase do not tracked.

      • +3

Hi calviny. Never have we blamed a store for an untracked sale. We've only given possible reasons why. Most of the time it's user error. Occasionally it's an issue with an affiliate network partner and their technology. For larger sales, customers tend to do a lot of searching and comparing via 3rd party sites before coming back for purchase. They tend to have multiple tabs open. Some even click links on OzB and therefore OzB gets the sale and commission, and not Cashrewards. You need to remember that affiliate tracking is based on last click. Unless you ensure that the very last click is from Cashrewards before purchase, then you will miss out. As I've stated numerous times, if you need help, ping me. We're not here to keep your $2 off an untracked $200 eBay purchase. We want your sale to track, so that we get paid just like you do. I can't be clearer or more transparent than that. Thank you.

        • +2

My statement is based on the fact that happen. Not once or twice only.

I know how tricky CR is so i do all searching beforehand and make sure the whole purchsse is smooth. I do the same for Small or large amt transaction.

I am telling people here my experience so they can justify the effort needed for getting $2 from CR.

        • +4

          @calviny:

I am telling people here my experience so they can justify the effort needed for getting $2 from CR.

I'm telling people here that I haven't had any problems getting high-value purchases from eBay tracked. Do you have any ad blockers or privacy filters installed on your computer or your router?

Looking at just the higher-value purchases from my CR history in the past week or two:

          1 April - eBay - $200, $2 cashback
          31 March - AliExpress - US$371, $47.01 cashback
          30 March - AliExpress - US$332, $42.05 cashback
          18 March - eBay - $1,306.99, $13.07 cashback
          13 March - eBay - $999, $9.99 cashback

In between those dates are 31 other purchases ranging from US$1.58 to $73. They all tracked.

So looking at my larger sample size, I'd be inclined to say there's something up with your computer. Are you 100% certain you're not running any blockers, filters, cookie-related tools, or anything of that sort?

        • @eug:
I am sure everything is the same among difference purchase i made. One is tracked and one is not.

Good on you, but not for me.

It happens to me now and then and i dont believe it is my machine

        • @calviny: So you're definitely not running any blockers, filters, or anything of that sort either on your computer or on your router?

  • +14

Sorry, but turned it off before going to 'shop now', same as I do always. Interesting that it works OK for Ebay, but BYOjet and Virgin it didn't and each time had my husband next to me verifying things. I'm not going to bother arguing any more as not worth my time and interesting that someone else says purchases not being tracked with flights. Thought people would be interested in feedback.

    • +2

That's fine. Thanks for the feedback. All I'm trying to do is help, not alienate you. If you have a change of mind, please feel free to ping me and I'll be more than happy to help you resolve any issues. Have a nice day :)

    • +8

In CR's defence, some adblockers only disable it for the page that you're currently on. This is why I have a separate browser for all CR related stuff with no adblock or tracker blocking.

      • +2

Not even restricted to adblock. Any kind of addon that blocks cookies or does notracking will do it. Its even inbuilt into some AVs safe browsing features.

      • +2

Good tactic, I also use a separate browser to perform all the cashrewards related purchases. I.e. I use chrome for daily use and opera (no addons installed) for cashrewards stuff.

        • Bing it!

        • Not sure why you need a separate browser, just open a private/incognito tab.

        • @Scab: But the browser will start playing havoc with the cookies, and that's too much of a risk!

        • @Scab: Some add-ons are enabled in incognito. This is probably fine but you'll need to make sure they're unchecked in the "Extensions" section of the Settings (assuming this is Chrome).

        • +1

The introduction of Cross-Site Tracking for Safari in iOS 11 is another issue as well. It just doesn't get easier for us lol. We'll soon be introducing notification to members if we detect AdBlock or the like before clicking out to stores.

        • +1

          @illumination:

Some add-ons are enabled in incognito.

          Only if they're manually enabled.

      • Likewise. I have a Chrome Canary installation with no extensions apart from the Cashrewards browser extension, and the home page is Cashrewards. Therefore when I need to make a purchase, all I do is fire up the browser, login, click out to store, purchase, log out of store, log out of Cashrewards, close browser.

This way the only sites that the browser visits each session is Cashrewards and the store.

  • -6

Dont use them you may can't get cash back and you can't complaint to FairTrading cuz they said they dont charge case like this.

    • +1

Also they reply very slow or dont reply at all.I got 1 reply back Feb then NO REPLY during 2Months

      • +6

Strange, I never had such issues and when I had - CR was very quick to resolve.

        • Cash declined 3 times which from 1 purchase, 2 of the cashback I dont know where is come from but 1 purchase I should get the cash back which I didn't

      • +3

Also FairTrading said they will contact me which has been 2 weeks as well,I called FairTrading they said they can't do anything unless I go to court with them.
You can't contact Cashrewards cuz they don't have any number!Which means if they don't want to reply by Email then you (profanity)

        • PM tightarse on here. He's super helpful.

    • +2

Well I don't purchase that much online but I find it usually works fine. The few times it didn't work I enquired and had the points allocated as usual. I suspect I forget to go through Cash Rewards when purchasing or going back and forth in eBay (as we often do when looking for purchases) may break the link. I have no complaints.

      • +1

I had track number,Also had date of purchase

    • +7

I have never had any issues with Cash rewards. They reply quick and help as best they can. If there is an issue it has always been with the store I purchased from not reporting my purchase, not Cash rewards. Given you have used the work "cuz" multiple times and thrown out an f bomb I think the reliability of your comments is very low.

      • +2

Have also found that some of the stores are just slow to reward the points. Eg. Bonds can be slow at times but the points do come through eventually. Perhaps that may be due to the free return / refund system Bonds has, so a few weeks to ascertain a true sale (maybe).

Any issues, if not resolved through CR, then I would take up TAs offer of assistance.

      • +1

The few issues I’ve had with tracking purchases or the cash back amount via CR, they have replied quickly and the issue has been resolved either through CR support or by contacting TA via PM.

    • +1

Mate, take it easy. I have found CR works well for me, and the few times I've had trouble, they're really good at fixing it up. Most of the time it's user error that causes issues, so just own up to it rather than blaming everyone but yourself.

  • +8

Friend must be a unique individual, who is not a member of your household (including yourself), and who has not previously registered with Cashrewards.

Does this mean I cannot refer my girlfriend because we live in the same house? That's a bit stiff.

    • +16

      That's what she said…

      • That's a bit stiff.

The key there is is a bit…We can't all be naturally girthed.. I mean gifted!

    • +7

If you give me her details I'll refer her.

      • +3

Do a little girlfriend switcharoo - you refer his girlfriend, he refers yours. :)

I wonder how long before there's forum threads for this lol

        • its called a reacharound

    • Unless things have changed, I don’t recall entering an address on signup so not sure how they’ll police that.

      • IP?

        • +1

That would be hard when your friend signs up on your wifi

  • +8

All I'm going to say here is that like some of the other posters who had issues with purchases not being tracked. When the CR customer staff couldn't be of much help, I PM'ed TA who was excellent and came up with a very satisfactory resolution.

Not suggesting you bounce CR customer service and go straight to TA, but if they can't help, I'm sure TA will do his best to resolve things for you.

    • +3

I've got the same experience. Customer service like that is rare these days!

  • +1

Where in the CR website can I see my "lifetime" total of cashback? I don't want to manually add everything up, but I'd like to use the total as a selling point for getting friends to sign up.

    • I would also like to see this, and possibly broken down by year as well.

    • +1

A few weeks ago CR changed the 'Hi Cluster, your rewards balance is: $xxx' message to rewards earned to date. When it said over $1200 I had a feeling of 'bank error in your favour, woohoo!', until I noticed the text next to it had changed too. CR has reverted back to the old reporting style as I bet a few people found it misleading.

      • +2

CR has reverted back to the old reporting style as I bet a few people found it misleading.

Hi Cluster. Got it in one. We often had members confused as lifetime rewards included WISH card savings as well. There will be a further iteration soon that will show lifetime, available etc. Thanks for the feedback :)

        • +1

I'll look forward to it then!

  • +6

The problem for me is I have friends who could really benefit from saving money on things they buy anyway, but when I mention the cash backs and sign up bonus they aren't interested at all. Over about three years I have saved over $1200 through CR, but when I mention this to people their faces are blank and they move onto the next discussion topic. One said 'not worth it, too much hassle'.

Yet, if I gave them $400 for Christmas do you think any one of them would refuse the money as 'it's not enough to bother with?'

    • +5

Over about three years I have saved over $1200 through CR

You could probably save $1M by not buying so much! ;)

Ask your spendy friends to give you the full purchase price in cash, then you buy on their behalf using rewards CC & CR.

      • "You could probably save $1M by not buying so much! ;)"

Well, yes, absolutely. The trick with CR is to buy whatever you would normally buy anyway, and not give into the temptation that I'm getting a few percent cash back, therefore let's go party.

    • +3

We've all got friends like that, some people just can't be helped.

    • +1

Yeah this was me when I was trying to refer people to ING. Even $100 for FREE wasn't enough to get people to fill out a stupid web form. And I was targeting mates who would regularly hit random ATMs and cop the fee because they just cbf finding the right ATM.

    • +1

Just remember there are probally things they are doing, that you could be doing to benefit your life but you dont and visa versa.

What I think it means is you aren't the INFLUENCE LEADER in your social group. Better buy more envolops to increase your rep.

      • "Just remember there are probally things they are doing, that you could be doing to benefit your life but you dont and visa versa."

That is true. If they mentioned something I could do/try to improve then I would evaluate it and maybe implement it. I hope they aren't keeping important information to themselves.

"What I think it means is you aren't the INFLUENCE LEADER in your social group."

Nope. They just can't be bothered or don't see enough immediate value in it.

    • Yet, if I gave them $400 for Christmas do you think any one of them would refuse the money as 'it's not enough to bother with?'

I agree with everything else you've said except this.

Putting aside the fact that you're $400 better off, this requires pretty much no effort. Effort required? Receive $400.

You can't say that using Cashrewards and sign up bonuses etc. is no effort. It's easy for us because we've been doing it for so long and we're used to it (it's a habit, really). People don't like having to do things differently to save "2%" - it's just "not worth it", but you wanna give me $400 for Christmas? Sure!

  • +6

Psst three months Clicks through mobile are not tracked through website. When I lodge manually with CR they state too bad didn't track. Next time…

Very shitty move considering tracking of roughly 10 transactions not recorded… And they won't do anything

    • +4

      And they won't do anything

That is so untrue. I've offered assistance on every single occasion. The only time we won't do anything is if there's no clicks recorded in your account. You can check these yourself by going into My Account / My Click History. If there's no click registered there, that means you didn't click out from Cashrewards.

      • +1

It's funny you say that. Non tracking I have lodged with online stating that its not tracked via mobile..responses from perly state otherwise… I don't even know why it's not tracked… So as it's not in your click history nothing you can do..

        • +5

If there's no click there, it means you didn't click out to the store from Cashrewards.
My click history has been 100% accurate from Day 1, regardless of anything else. I check after each purchase.

        • +2

@MathNerd: Yes my cashreward tracking is highly accurate as well.

      • +2

I've had some occasions that the click did register in the click history. But still weren't paid for cashback after reporting the transaction. I've provided copies of the invoice which is the same date as the click history. But was told they are not paying because store didnt track the purchase.

        • Always like that

    • Yes , click history is there but declined atthe end after long wait

  • +6

Still waiting for A purchase I made months ago to be paid to me. Up to 90 days is a joke

    • +9

Hi Superninja. Unfortunately, it's the nature of the beast. It's the same story with any cashback site worldwide, and we're entirely in the hands of the stores. Some pay faster, others don't. They generally do this to allow for the returns period to pass.

      • +6

Dunno why people are downvoting TA when it's true. You know what would happen if the affiliates/vendors approved it instantly?

I'd buy, get cashback, cashout, return item, buy, cashout, return item etc. So the sellers and network wait a few months to prevent this as well as incase of DOA, fraudulent transactions etc.

  • Not sure if this is kosher or not, but I've never used this so if someone wants to sign me up let me know!

    • click the "random" link in the grey "REFERRAL LINKS" box under OP

  • +5

I've been using CR for about three years, but the recent Facebook/Cambridge Analytica fuss has me wondering what information CR collects and who they sell/share it with:

    https://www.cashrewards.com.au/en/privacy

"Cashrewards collects, holds and uses personal information primarily to fulfil our business functions and activities which include to
    - disclose demographic and profile information with our introducers and suppliers"

"We usually disclose the personal information we collect to our related entities, service providers and contractors in connection with the provision of our services and the benefits we provide to you"

Seems pretty much all personal info is up for sale except sensitive information (religious, health, ethnic info, bank details obviously).

    "We may de-identify personal information."

That means to me usually it's not.

Does the Cash Rewards browser extension monitor browsing activity and send it back to CR for analysis?

    • +1

I hope not with the websites I visit.

    • +1

There's a discussion forum on this subject.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/282697

    • +2

I uninstalled mine, mainly because it didn't work. Half of my purchases didn't track even with the addon on a clean browser.

I booked an overseas holiday ($$$$) through booking.com and it didnt track. I emailed them and gave them the invoices as requested, they tracked it manually but months later.. Declined.

Also had a TM Lewin puchase from August last year, the sale tracked this time but denied with no notification/reason why.

Ive stopped chasing up untracked rewards, instead i just use CW less and less now.

      • +2

Hi flipfire. Without knowing the full details, I can only assume your Booking.com sale didn't track as you may have used a spend/get promo. If not, you may have used an unlisted coupon, or clicked out from OzB or other sites (comparison/Google) and therefore the sale was attributed to another channel? More than happy to chase up with the merchant for you and give exact reason if you like. As for TM Lewin, see here. Anyway, here to help if you ever need me and hope you change your mind about staying on board :)

      • Agree

  • +1

All my existing friends are suddenly only worth half as much. Devastating!

  • +2

Referred my gf last year OCT, got $5 bonus however the bonus was reversed recently.
I sent an email asking for a reasoning but got nothing back.

might look for an alternative now :(

    • +4

Hi h4zey. If the $5 was reversed, it's because your girlfriend didn't make a qualifying purchase within the 90 day timeframe. Having said that, please ping me your CR email address and I'll look into it for you. Want to check the email logs too in regards to you suggesting we didn't respond, as I take these issues seriously. Thanks.

      • +1

Have had issues with tracking myself. But can vouch the response time from the cashrewards team has been very quick and always resolved the issue up my satisfaction. I will definitely be referring friends. My experience has been very good.

        • Great to hear, thank you. You know where I am if you need assistance for anything. Enjoy your night :)

  • +1

I haven't used it all that much but had 1 decline when bought cheap shirts from TM Lewin sale

    • Hi Gandalf. Would hazard a guess that you used a coupon not advertised on CR?

      • Possibly if it was on ozbargain I probably used whatever code/s were in the thread :)

        • +2

There's the problem unfortunately. We have this condition on all our merchant pages that using a coupon not listed on site may invalidate cashback. Merchants don't normally like to pay out twice (coupon & cashback) and when they consolidate sales, they'll often decline cashback transactions that used a coupon not approved by them for rewards programs. Please check the CR store page first to ensure the coupon is listed. Thanks.

        • +4

@tightarse: it should advise why it's been declined. Otherwise what else can you expect but disgruntled shoppers. I guess the stores do have to do this but it's not passed on to the shopper as it would be a point that would raise more support (genuine and non genuine) requests.

        • +3

@Elijha: Hi Elijha. We pass on the information that is given to us by the stores - that's all we can do. If an uncommissionable coupon was used, they would normally tell us and we'd say so in our ticket response to the member. But it's a great point re adding the reason into the member's acct - one that's never really crossed my mind. Will definitely be passing this onto the team for discussion. Thank you so much for the feedback.
