Just asked LITB rep for a Dafang deal and they replied with a custom coupon code..

Historically it isn't the best price but with Gearbest not doing any more amazing deals this is as good as it gets, at least for the short term.

Code is valid for another 299 uses. Untick shipping insurance at checkout (Optional)

Also make sure you pay in USD dollars. That setting is on the top right of the screen — change currency into USD and then in Paypal disable the Paypal automatic conversion, and instead use your bank's currency conversion instead.

  • I bought this one after Xiaofang camera stops working in Australia. This is better than Xiaofang though you have to pay more.

    • +2

Yeah. That's also the reason why we didn't have Xiaofang in the easter egg treasure hunt, as you have to hack the Xiaofang to use it.

Ain't nobody got time for that.

      • Ain't nobody got time for that.

        The Autotune version is awesome.

    • My Xiaofang camera still working fine since I had it set up .why u said it stops working in australia ?

      • +1

With the new ones — attempting to pair them causes them to disconnect at around the 89% progress bar

If your camera still works — do not unpair them. If you do, you won't be able to pair them again. I made that mistake and caused one of my fangs to become useless.

I tried to downgrade firmware but the unit refuses to install the .bin file, so it just sits in my drawer for now.

        • +1

I ordered two late last year and have been to scared to try and install them.

      • +1

I've got two Xiaofang. The one I bought few months back is still working fine, but not the one I bought last month.

How did you get your Dafang to even connect?

In the Mi App I chose Mainland China.
Add Device > Selected Dafang picture > pressed the reset button on Dafang > pointed Dafang camera to QR code on phone

It would then go from 0% to 100% but then times out.

      • I did that too with no issue at the first attempt.

      • i used a gpslocation app to drop my location in china. set the account to china and follow the instructions. It works that way.
some people said they werent able to do this but its worked for me every time, even when the app has updated and i needed to set it up again.

      • these were my instructions from one of the previous posts

        download geo-location app
        download mi app
register etc set location to china.
        set geolocation to china.
        follow install procedure. complete install.
        remove geo-location.
        keep mi app to china

  • Great cameras but mine (all three of them) constantly disconnect from the app.

    • which server are you using? I use China mainland and my old generation Xiaofang works (generally, 95% of the time)

    • When you say 'disconnect from the app', is that when you are viewing them?

Because I only have that issue when my wi-fi is playing up.

If that's not it can you give some further details?

      • Yeah when I view them. I open them up on the app and they just don't connect. Just sits there saying 'Connecting 1/3" and then times out.

Happened when I had my Airport Extreme, happens the same with my Google Wifi, so I doubt it's my wifi.

Resetting the camera works though but it's annoying.

Edit: Just tried the camera. Only 1 out of 3 are connecting. I reset them up a month ago.

        • My Wi-fi have been playing up the last few days so it has been constantly disconnecting and reconnecting.

I view them on two different phones, normally (when Wi-Fi has been behaving) on my Mi Max 2 I rarely have an issue,
but if I am using my old Samsung Note 2 it disconnects more often. I have even tested them both on at the same time,
Note 2 will disconnect while Mi max 2 stream will be fine.

Perhaps you may be able to experiment with your phones etc.

        • Does that mean they also don’t record video when they’re ‘not connecting’? Or is it just streaming through the app doesn’t work? I’m interested in having something low maintainence recording 24/7 (upon motion detection) for security purposes (hoping to never have to use it) - would this be a good choice?

        • @bozbargain: As long as you have a memory card inserted they are recording.

        • @xev: I meant cloud recording.

        • @bozbargain: I use SD cards so I have no idea if they continue recording.

  • This has horrible form factor for wall mounting compared to Xiaofang.

  • I have been reading many comments in the past regarding the requirement for these cameras to run through a China server. Is there anyway for this camera to live stream locally without much hacking. I only need it to monitor my dog throughout the day

Most of Xiaomi IP cameras are managed by an overseas server, and they require you to install Mi Home app. You should probably go to a computer store and look for a D-Link, TP-Link, Reolink or Netgear IP camera.

I got one a while back, never even powered on the original firmware. I use https://github.com/EliasKotlyar/Xiaomi-Dafang-Hacks which is easy to install and provides both RTSP (play via VLC or similar) and MJPEG (for browsers) streams. Also allows access to most of the original functionality (motor control, IR LEDs, play audio at the camera etc.) via a browser or a third party app.

      • Once you have installed the custom firmware does it still send the video to the Xiaomi servers? Have you tried using this with Zoneminder or Blue Iris?

        • +2

          According to the FAQ:

Does the CFW connect to the Xiaomi Servers?
No. It does not connect to anything.

You can see all the running processes in the web interface (you can also SSH into it and run "top" or similar) or do netstat:

          [root@dafang1:~]# netstat -tap
Active Internet connections (servers and established)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State PID/Program name
          tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:8554 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 186/v4l2rtspserver-
          tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 183/boa
          tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:21 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 182/bftpd
          tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:22 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 178/dropbearmulti
          tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:23 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 52/telnetd
          tcp 0 208 dafang1.fritz.box:22 ######.fritz.box:59833 ESTABLISHED 188/dropbearmulti

It's possible there's a backdoor in these services that only run intermittently but my tinfoil hat isn't that thick to look any further.

        • @EchoEcho: Thanks! I've ordered one. Planning to use the hack!

      • Also allows access to most of the original functionality (motor control, IR LEDs, play audio at the camera etc.) via a browser or a third party app.

Does xiaofang hack do motion detect, IR and 2 way audio too? Is there a third party app also that lets you view more than 1 camera at the same time like the Mi Home app does? TIA.

      • hey EchoEcho, I just ordered one and this will be my first xiaomi cam, and I"m pretty new to this, I have briefly looked through the hacking instruction, but I couldn't find anything regarding how to connect to the camera afterwards, do you just do it the normal way through the xiaomi app as normal? and you mentioned about using the browser too, is there a instruction on how to do that too, TIA

  • Does fanghack work for this Dafang? Want to integrate it with hass.io

Anyone using android have problem with downloading motion detect videos off Xiaomi home? I could never get any of them downloaded since day 1.

    • +2

Yep, still records the clip but cannot play it

      • Argh I didn't have many luck searching online for answers… from what I can gather so far it's mostly a recent firmware problem, wonder if xiaomi is gonna fix it in the next.

    • +1

Something must have changed, I'm now able to download the video from the server.

      • still not working me. it hasn't been working for ages now! I can see the videos in the list but it just doesn't download :/

        • Hmmmm… It stopped working shortly afterwards, but have now been able to download a clip again.

        • @blinker:

Actually when I wrote that message it was indeed working. I didn't notice it downloaded in the "video" folder of my android phone.

  • don't buy it.
mine got firmware upgrade in March, and it stopped working since then.
Haven't found a way to downgrade firmware.

Contacted with xiaomi customer service, no reply yet.

    • Read above : install fanghack, easy to install and more capabilities and out from xiaomi spy

      • more capabilities? Not really
My understanding is that you will lose the free cloud service, motion detection, and micro sd storage.

    • Which version are you on? Mine has 5.5.1.243 and says it is up to date.
Not having any issues with it.

Have you tried going through the setup process again?

      • 243 is not latest. 287 is the new one that I was referring to.

  • Looks like the code has been used up.

LITB no longer on CashRewards as well I see.

    • LITB has problems with their affiliate network and they are working to restore it.

No idea what is taking so long, but it also means you cannot get any form of cashback from LITB from any provider.
