$129 seems a lot for a bit of nostalgia.

Wow. Uncle Tom’s Plastic Pig 🐷 is now makin’ Bacon 🥓

    • +7

lots of people paid $100 for old NES and SNES games.

at least the C64mini allows you to play ANY game you can download from the net, off a USB stick. acts like a normal computer for it's time.

I learnt how to cycle the background screen colour using Basics on the C16 and that amazed just about everyone.

      • You mean Basix?

      • I'm claiming trump's, used assembly language to do the same😀

      • I used to type a simple BASIC program into the display c-64 at K-Mart that flashed on and off in the middle of the screen "Don't buy a computer at K-Mart!" Staff and customers laughed, till it was switched off.

      • TRS-80 Extended Basic for the Pros.

All these expensive RetroPie Boxes, just make your own and get them all in the one

    • +1

Yep agree. It looks great but I read in a review that you’re better off with a RetroPie so bought one last week on eBay. Loving it. I’ve got all my consoles, arcade and Commodore 64 and Amiga running nicely. These raspberry pi things are pretty amazing for the price. I got mine all set up with everything I needed and software sorted too for $110 delivered. No brainer.

      • Suggested controller for that? We have one too with a bluetooth controller all set up but having trouble adding Xbox controllers as a second controller for two (3, 4, Gauntlet anyone?) games so looking for a controller that is simple stupid to set up that someone knows actually works.

        • +1

I replied but posted a link to the kit I bought which I didn’t realise was against the rules to post links.

The kit I got came with 2 USB Snes controllers which work great for most games. I also bought an arcade style stick for other games the don’t feel right with the game pad.

For other emulators I have a keyboard and mouse plugged in too. There are 4 USB ports on the Pi.

If you search eBay there are lots of ready to go options. You could buy everything separately and built your own but it was just easier for me to get the kit.

Wanting for the full version to come out with working keyboard

    • +1

Just add an old usb keyboard and you are good to go. But yes seems a little, well, cheesy. But I would think twisty would like cheesy - unless you are more chicken… Oh I want twisties now dang it.

  • +1

No jumpman. But I won't neg it.

    • +2

Jumpman IS one of the 64 games built-in. :)

      • +2

Thankyou I stand corrected. If I can't read the large graphic list of the included games what chance do I possibly have of dodging flying white dots…..:)

  • +1

Ashens reviewed it the other day. Including a brief review of every game on it…

The engadget c64 review is less than flattering:

The C64 Mini is a valiant attempt to join the current craze for tiny retro consoles that hark back to our childhoods. Unfortunately, a bad controller, questionable software design and the poor roster of games on offer sour the package here. While it’s clearly been put together with a measure of love, this is one nostalgia trip you can do without taking.

    • If it was made by Apple they'd be all over it with a 10/10.

    • Addressing the games roster I believe you can install any C64 software onto it

  • +3

Ive got the real one ;)

  • There was a text game with “jiggers” in it. What was that called?

  • +1

    No Buggy Boy, no deal.

  • +3

Are you keeping up with the Commodore?

    • John Laws has a lot to answer for.

But after introducing me to Pirates!, Hounded and the national anthem of Epyx, who am I to complain…

  • Friend of mine had a xxx game of the smurfs. So weird

    • +1

      Love it!

I can remember as a 15 year old I used to play that game and smurf the smurf out of myself until I smurfed all over the shop and fell asleep contented.

      Good times…

    • +2

How? Smurfs are asexual, according to Donnie Darko.

  • I had the original, in '82, I was about to get the VIC20 when I heard of this monster coming out, bugged the crap out of my parents :)… and I learned to code in assembler on it. The keyboard on this copy doesn't work AFAIK ?

Anyway, not my thing… while I have fond memories of that and my Amiga 1000 these are best left as memories IMO

    SYS64738 indeed…

    • I still have my Amiga and many of the games still run, as does the original monitor. My C-64 is long gone, same with the Vic-20 and Commodore PET. Tempted to get it to force my kids to play it if I hide their devices.

  • I love how amazon.com.au won't deliver to me with an error "Incorrect address:" but the US version sending to my Australian address is fine.
