TPG Mobile - $0 SIM Charge + Free Delivery, 50% off Unlimited (C&T) Mobile Plan for First Six Months. $11 Port Out Fee

911

All Plans have increased data allowance compared to last post
$10 Sim Charge now waived, port out fee is $11?

All plans are Unlimited Calls and Texts, with 100 Intl Mins
Small - 4gb - $10 p/m (was $19.99 p/m) NB: no Intl mins
Medium - 10gb - $15 p/m (was $29.99 p/m)
Large - 15gb - $19.99 p/m (was $34.99 p/m)
Extra Large - 20 gb - $24.99 p/m (was $39.99 p/m)

Note, savings are for new registrations only, and only for first six months. Prices revert to standard after 6 months (or for existing customers). Excess data billed at $10/gb in 1 gb blocks.

Offer may be withdrawn at any time.

Thanks to Tgb, went to sign up for this deal and found that there was no longer a $10 sim charge. Also, all data allowances have increased compared to previous. Confirmed this on livechat, and also confirmed that port out fee is $11. (Some have previously said $20 … or $8 according to others. Would be good to get confirmation of this, to make sure we're not being told differnt things by different live chat reps).

This deal seems quite competitive now w/out sim fee and… reduced? porting fee. Especially for month to month. Main competition is Kogan (see below).
Kogan's long-term (30/90 days for existing customers) or BOGOF 365 day plans are also competitive budget mobile options - but you do get locked in. I am porting from Kogan and have had surprisingly good customer service from them. Have heard TPG customer service is so-so but hopefully they are on the up and up.

EDIT:

I knew the port out fee might be contrversial, but didn't realise it would create so much drama. I stand by the structure of the post, as I think it is best to have the deal remain transparent. The plans are quite good value, but yes, you have to deal with a snarky porting fee. Clearly, the general public have never known about TPG's porting fee because as soon as you put it in the title, the negs stack up.
Thanks to colaman, apparently, it is quite easy to get out of the porting fee. I agree, sounds like a hassle, but obviously worth it given so many people are worked up about a porting fee.
If it's still too much for you, remember, the focus of this post is that the sim charge is waived, delivery is free, and data allowances have been upgraded for free.

port out fee? that's a neg from me. not worth taking up the plan at all.

  • What did TPG do with its infamous "deposit/prepayment"? It seems it is now optional if you are stupid enough to pay.

    https://www.tpg.com.au/sites/default/files/doc/CIS_T4G_Mediu…

You can make additional prepayment if you wish to make any excluded calls or usage that will incur excess charges.
You will forfeit any prepayments already made.

    • I was about to ask about this. I know with their home phones they still force you to make that $20 prepayment but I wasn’t sure if they still did it with mobile phones.

  • Well I just transferred my current TPG mobile to the new deal. Increased Data was the main reason. Haven't changed for years from TPG and does the job for what I need it for. I can live with the $11 because it will probably change one day too.

The port out fee is a pain. They really do hunt you down constantly to retrieve it.
If you choose to transfer the payment via internet banking instead of providing your credit card details over the phone, they require you to FAX them evidence - despite using your account number in the description.
    Definitely a neg from me.

  • Port out fee is a neg for me.
Unless you break contract, thats not appropriate

  • I don’t see what all the fuss about the port out fee is. I put it in the title and clearly in the description for full transparency, and because it is actually reduced compared to what it was. If it’s less than what it was, it’s still a deal, is it not?
Yes, it sucks. And it’s outdated. But it’s been a part of TPG for a long time and it’s pretty cheap nonetheless. If you balance it out over six months, $2 p/m is not much in the scheme of things. Deposit and prepayments are gone too I think, so it looks like they are slowly getting their act together. $10 sim charge and delivery fee also waived.
Get over the $11 port out fee and see that their restructured plans are still a lot better than what they used to be.

no-one has to pay the $11, it's a scam, I will just refer to here again - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/176189

Thanks for the post by the way, changed my plan when i saw this for the extra data as I am already with TPG for years.

To be clear, the negativity is against TPG and their terms and conditions. Certainly not you OP.
Still appreciate your efforts in posting something up.

  • Port out fee, ludicrous -

  • Sounds dodgy, no deal

  • Solid increase - was 2gb on the lowest plan for the same price.

  • Not just port out fee, but they make you prepay $20 worth of credit (even on unlimited plans just in case you make international calls or some other metered call not included), and it tops up automatically when it drops to $10 or below. This is not refundable if you leave. There is no reason for this not being refundable. If it gets topped up just before you port out, that's $20 you lose, plus $11 port out fee. Since you can not go below $10 without auto top up, every customer will lose a minimum $10 to them for the privilege of being a customer.

They also ripped me off, charging me for usage that I didn't use. I know this to be true because I switched to Amaysim on the same plan and they did not charge me near as often as TPG did.

TPG normally charges $20 for a sim. What a joke.

    I can't recommend these clowns.

    • I had to do the $20 prepayment for home phone bundle, will be fighting that tooth and nail when I leave them.

      • I had mobile and phone with them. Had to pay the $20 for both. The home phone also had unlimited calls. They don't share the same credit. It's a scam that the require a prepayment. They have your credit card, there's no reason they can't take the payment from your card as you use it, or post paid. If they don't think it's secure enough of a payment, well it's the same credit card they're taking your monthly fees from, so if it's good enough for that, why wouldn't it be good enough to pay for your calls?

So I lost probably $40 + $11 port out fee.

So I would never recommend TPG to anyone.

  • I got stung by the port out fee recently. I will never use TPG again dodgy stuff.

  • +1

Why neg the poster? Not their fault there's a port out fee. Just stating the facts plus gave a step to get out of it. Good on you for going to the effort of posting.

  • Neg for the port out fee. Completely ripping people off after contact.

  • Can someone please link to the CIS/terms and conditions that contains the $11 port out fee?

    • $11 port out fee I asked via live chat. To my knowledge, these hidden fees aren’t included in CIS. Theoretically, it isn’t part of the plan - until you want to leave lol. The stuff about the deposit etc. I think is outdated.

      • Is it possible that the CSR got it wrong? I think the old TPG plans were postpaid, so you could be charged a port out fee. I've looked and haven't been able to find it anywhere on the CIS or terms and conditions. The CIS also states that it's a pre-paid service. To charge an arbitrary $11 port out fee would be misleading or deceptive on that basis.

    • It only says this -

6.6. We may charge you a fee to port the phone number to another carrier or carriage service provider.

  • This deal is for the first 6 months only and then what? I'm I supposed to search for other bargains again? Because once it goes to its full normal price it becomes a non deal. Not worth the hassle for me. Kogan is a much better value anyway. I was with TPG for years, I had two numbers with them, they use Vodafone. When I ported out, they charged me $11 for each number. Not much money, but for me it's irrational in this day and age to charge a port out fee, especially for prepaid. For me it was a "see you never" fee. Also if something goes wrong, Kogan support is far superior to what TPG support used to be a few years ago.

  • I can smell a class action comming in a few years with all the people who loose their "deposit ". Why call it a deposit when the TC say you cant get it back.

Neg for 1. port out fee 2. un-refundable deposit 3. below average call center service

Might want to check cost to port number and possible holding costs.

    • Do they charge $11 portout fee and $20 non refurnable payment?

    • +8

what about the notorious $20 prepayment "non-refundable deposit" and $11 port out fee

    • Are they on the vodafone network? how does it compare to telstra in the bush?

      • That's all depend on where you are.

    • +6

Do remember this is NOT prepaid, they charge you $20 deposit.
When you port out, they charge you a fee and keep the remainder of the $20. You have to spend hours on the phone to get it back.
I will just go to Kogan, Aldi or Lebara if you need I'nal calls. No TPG. EVER!

      • no, they will keep that $20. Do not forget, it is UNLIMITED talk and sms

        • Αldi has UNLIMITED calls too, and offers better network (Telstra MVNO) and more minutes for international calls

    • By my maths only the budget plans are 50% off. The other 2 are around 40% off

    • +5

If you are considering TPG (why would you?) then just please make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. It might not be easy to get out of again.

TPG are a pack of askhools! Still fighting with them months after I left over $25 they owe me, said they owe me with email proof but now refuse to pay.

Just wait for the merger to finalise and new deals to come out under the new group

    • TPG and Vodafone on Thursday said they have formed a joint venture — separate from the proposed merger — named "JVCo".
