[Important Announcement] Buzz Telco Is Shutting down

Table of alternative deals (publicly editable spreadsheet)

Received the email from Buzz this morning.

It is with great regret that today, I announce that our contract with Vocus Ltd has been terminated effective immediately.

As a result of this termination, I am forced to announce that, effective immediately, Buzz Telco will cease trading. I have worked with a number of other providers to get arrangements in place to ensure that customers are not left without service during these unfortunate times.

I have spoken with three separate providers, who are all willing to offer deals to our customers wishing to transfer across to them. The deals are as outlined below:

Mungi Internet - $5 off for the first 5 Months - Coupon Code “BUZZ”. Customers of Buzz Telco are welcome to SMS Mungi on 0427 188 626 or Live Chat at mungi.online/buzz. This offer is available to all current Buzz Telco Customers and will expire on the 31st of May 2018.

Dodo Internet – Vocus has arranged for a promotional offer with Dodo for transitioning Buzz Telco customers in its communications with them about impacted services. Dodo will offer current Buzz Telco customers 1 month free of charges on their chosen NBN plan when you connect for 24 months. The free month will be applied to the 4th month of service. This offer is valid until the 1st of May 2018. The credit on your account is not redeemable for cash and is subject to Dodo’s terms and conditions available from their website. To take up this offer, you must quote code “FREE#MONTHS” and sign up by calling a Dodo service representative on 1300 843 120.

Aussie Broadband – Aussie Broadband is pleased to offer Buzz Telco customers their first month free when switching to Aussie Broadband. As you are already connected to the nbn Aussie Broadband can transfer your connection within minutes (so you can reduce any risk of downtime). Aussie Broadband offer all-Australian Support, no connection fees and no lock-in contracts (so if you don’t love them in the first month, you’re free to leave). To take up this offer, you will be required to sign up at the Aussie Broadband website (aussiebroadband.com.au) or by calling their friendly team on 1300 880 905 and use the coupon code “BUZZFREETRIAL” at the checkout. This offer is available to all current Buzz Telco customers and will expire on the 6th of May 2018.

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of our current and past customers, as well as our dedicated staff, for the commitment and loyalty you have shown towards Buzz Telco. We have had our ups and downs, and I am devastated to see the journey coming to an end. I wish all of our former customers and staff all the best in their journeys, and I am sincerely sorry that we will not be a part of it.

Please be aware that, as a result of this process, our phones will be taken offline shortly, and all active services will be disconnected on Thursday. Please ensure that you have placed an order with your new provider by Close of Business tomorrow to ensure any downtime can be avoided.

I will still personally be responding to lodged tickets. Please be patient, as this has been reduced to a one-man operation as we wind down. As such, delays will be experienced.

Any customers with pending orders will be contacted on an individual basis within the coming days to arrange for refunds of your accounts.

All recurring payments, inclusive of PayPal Subscriptions, have been cancelled to ensure that customers are not charged unnecessarily.

I would once again like to thank you for your time with Buzz Telco and wish you all the best. I am truly sorry that we will not be able to continue this journey with you.

Kind Regards

      • torrent speed bottlenecks at your VPN connection, no?

    • +1

Same here, funnily enough, I got one of the nicer modems free for signing up with a 24 month plan with Buzz..

  • +1

Well this sucks, $19 a month for 12/1 was totally awesome and I never experienced a single hiccup :(.

  • Can someone add in a Poll to see which provider people went to? Prices seem to be similar across the board (For the first 6 months) just tossing up between providers atm.

  • +1

Went with the 100/40 with mungi - only $10 more than buzz hopefully it’s decent

    • Only for first 5 month

  • +1

From ASIC, Notification of Application to Wind Up Company Under S. (519G) was filed back in March 2018.

It seems receiving refund from Buzz Telco maybe little difficult.

    https://connectonline.asic.gov.au/RegistrySearch/faces/landi…

    • Hopefully if people didn't pay too far ahead it won't hurt too much (is that the risk for going with cheapest guys?).

    • +2

Interesting, they placed an Application to wind up on the 8th of March, but were still accepting payments for future Internet periods (part of the period that they aren't delivering on). I wonder how legal that is?

      • Surely it's a bad idea to date your Ts&Cs 1st April as they did back in 2015? https://buzztelco.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/sfoa.pdf

        Imagine:
Plaintiff: I'd like to ask the Court to rule my Contract unenforceable as the Terms and Conditions are clearly a joke.
        Judge: Why, Peasant?
Plaintiff: They are very short, written in plain English, normal type, not full of complicated definitions and contextual limitations; so are clearly inappropriate. In short, unfit for abuse, your honour.
Judge: I see. Clearly this is not an appropriate state of affairs.
Plaintiff: Even the date can't be taken seriously, the document is dated 1st April.
        Judge: Yes indeed. Case dismissed!

Sign-up with a small, private company registered in Qld is a good way to lose your service some day. Not that there are many pluses to signing with a large one, either. AU Internet, whether it be DoCatA, AUDA, ACMA's pieces, is a complete mess, it is sad to see any small ISP going to the wall. Any of them (other than the incumbents) can fall when the national market is so brilliantly mis-managed.

That said, most small businesses fail due to internal problems and Buzz Telco Pty Ltd is not likely to be any different.

    • +1

Too late for me. Hopefully its a lesson for me and others on the forum. Never pay anyone in advance.

      • I saw on Whirlpool that you paid them $1000 in advance. Wow!

        • +1

Yep. Fingers crossed now for chargeback.

  • No surprises here. Called it.

  • Not surprised.
I switched from AussieBB to Buzz sometime last year. The speeds were horrendous. After 2 weeks I was back at Aussie with my tail between my legs. My mother, who joined Buzz at the same time I had, decided to stick it out. After a week or so, they had improved. In fact, since then, I regularly run speed tests at her house and in all these months I have rarely seen it dip under her purchased speed of 25/5, even at peak times. I found it a bit dumbfounding that they gave her, and many other existing customers, a massive discount. A loyalty reward was nice, but their huge discount was going a bit too far. They were already reasonably priced and their performance seemed fine, so they didn't need to give such a crazy discount. I highly suspected at that point that they weren't going to be sustainable.

  • fakk!!!!! I am looking cheap nbn now…any suggest?

    • +4

I suggest reading the thread 😉

      • Ahhhh am openning my mouth to get some sweets.

  • Most providers charge extra on top for the landline phone on VoiP. Mungi charges $4.95 for PAYG calls (Mungi Voice Light). Exetel, Mate, Spintel and several other providers offer VoiP landline only with 'all calls included' deal for $10 extra. I could not find if VoiP landline is included in the Telecube offers.

    • Looks like its listed under pabx on their site. Its a different service that you will combine with the broadband. You dont have to use theirs, theres other offers out there.

Heres a few people talking about it…
      http://whrl.pl/Re1DKQ

I have no interest in it, just noticed some people mention it….I signed up for their 25/5 500gig $50 a month.

I signed up to Mungi. I enjoyed Buzz Telco while it lasted

  • +3

I also signed up with Mungi. I know Buzz Telco is very unpopular here but I have had no problem with them since I got online.

  • -7

If you want free internet why not just live in a macdonalds toilet or in your local shopping center, behind a display and wait until they lock the place up at night.

    • +5

Thank you for your great constructive and helpful comment ~
This may be beyond your knowledge, but compared to many other civilised western countries, VDSL Internet (NBN) in Australia is super expensive, so I think it is fair enough and understandable that users look for the best deal they can get. Nobody expects free Internet, but I think it is fair enough to look for a fair deal.
Remember where you are, this is called Ozbargain, not Ozwasteyourmoney!

  • mind to share what plan you had with Buzz, and your new plan + $$ (name your new ISP)

    • +2

      Buzz:
      59/month
      Unlimited
      100/40

Yet to be connected but signed up with,
      Telecube:
      60/month
      500gb Peak / 10TB OffPeak
      50/20

      • +2

        i had the same deal

new plan (will sign up tonight):

        Mungi
        50/20 unlimited
        59.95 - first 5 month; 64.95 from 6th month

not sure if im ready for the 50 instead of 100mbps…

    • +3

      Buzz:
      $59/month
      Unlimited
      100/40

      Mungzi:
      $74.95/month - $5 for first 5 months =$69.95 (first 5 months)
      Unlimited
      100/40

    • +1

      Buzz
      $40
      Unlimited
      50/25

      Telecube
      $50
      500gig 1t offpeak
      25/5

The only bit I care about is the extra $10 a month (im poor)
Only got 50/25 to make up for their crappy connection, never needed that much speed. If Telecube gets me a near constant 25 Ill be perfectly happy. I suffered from a lot of congestion and at those times had to use a vpn to get good speeds, if that goes away I'll be extremely happy.
And I really didnt need unlimited, 500 will be ample for me.

    • +1

      Buzz:
      $19
      25/5
(Billing issue, upped the plan from 12/1 when the prices came down massivley, but the never billed for the new plan. Kept billing the same old plan)

      Kogan:
      $59
50/20 (i think that is the upload speed. They dont advertise it anymore)

  • +1

In same situation. Enjoyed benefits of buzz telco while it is all good. No problem with speed or anything. There was outage once but fixed in couple of hours may be over night.
Now after whistleout, comparison from excel(which is terrific work. Thanks for that)
I did endup choosing between Mates and aussie broadband. Basically for price and plan.

    Thoughts are
ABB-well reputated, built infrastructure for nbn to avoid congestion.
Good support, little more expensive than mate.
First month free from buzz bullshit.

Mate-relative new like to buzz telco.
Competitive price for 50/20 unlimited plan which is 59$ for 6 months and 69 later.
No lock in contacts for both. So please suggest any better or reliable deals. Still can change ;p

Sometime I get too busy to deal with this type of issue. For peace of mind choose ABB.

  • +4

I was happy with Buzz and am sorry to see them go. Fortunately, my next payment was due in three days. We need to support these start-ups or there will be no competition. We also need to support Australian support centers in my opinion, which was one of the reasons why I went with Buzz.

I moved to Aussie Broadband within one hour of getting the email. I was connected on FTTN within two hours. The first free month made it a no-brainer to me. I signed up for the 100/40 unlimited plan but will probably move to 50/20 500GB for $74 after the first free month.

I'm currently getting 88/35 with 6ms ping. I'm happy with that.

  • +1

I've gone to ABB too, service has now activated. I had some girl on the phone in about 45 seconds, the on hold tell you the position in the queue and how long to wait. Called at 4pm connected at 7pm. Really cannot complain about that.
But the biggests shitter of all this is the short notice, I have now lost my landline, the number is lost. ABB say that I need a clear 10 business days to move it over, but since Buzz dropped the service already it cannot be ported. $30 fee or some shit and no promise of being able to get the same number. I figured that if I have to give everyone my new number it is gonna start with 040… not 07.

Now I have some breathing space to find a better deal, but I might just leave it be.
Buzz was great & super fast 90Mbs+ always. $60/month unlimited and they never actually billed me for my landline calls.
ABB is still more expensive for 50Mbs speed @ $79

    • My connection with Buzz is still active.. I wonder if I can port over immediately? I'll call Aussie broadband at 8am

  • I just got provisioned for the 50/20 with Telecube, took one afternoon from signing up to activation (FTTP in WA).

Speedtest results on my laptop @ 6pm WA time at 10m away from router (in a cupboard):

    43-46/16 on 5ghz
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/7253891342
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/7253914759

17-30/10 on 2.4ghz (probably not the best wifi card on my laptop? not sure)
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/7253896055
    http://www.speedtest.net/result/7253908577

More consistent/better results on my Pixel 2 XL:

    ~45/19 5ghz
    ~44/19 2.4ghz

4k content streams well on YouTube, not much delay if any.

Happy so far. Everything was pretty seamless. If there's a problem I'll report back.

  • +1

I went from BUZZ 100/40 to MUNGI 100/40 for $69.95. The good thing is that I can cancel any time without paying any fees. I connect at around 94/36. Hopefully it won't be a big drop.

  • Wow just noted that ABB have a usage section, even with unlimited. I can finally see how much I actually use, I've never been able to work it out so didn't know if I needed 500 or 1000gb etc Will see after a month what I really need ;)

  • +1

Really disappointed about this as I had great service and speed at great pricing!

I've spent the day calling ISP's and with two accounts this has really annoyed me with 1 days notice over anzac day..however…i went with mungi for one and mate with the other. Both scored very high on product review website stating excellent speed and service across a large number of reviews.

I tried contacting telecube three times and when i spoke with someone they said they'd take my details and "try" to call me back - see you later then > just an insight into their service i guess!

skymesh seemed to not be able to transfer me for 3-5 days > they were out!

Flip TV is interesting but no real feedback on them on product review.

Most others wanted a connection fee if no contract selected > I thought contracts had all gone but anyway!

  • +7

Updated my CC on Buzztelco portal with a test credit card number, just in case they still processing payment on next billing date.

  • +1

Signed up with Mungi. Connected with Mungi after 6 hours.

    • How do you know when it was ported?

Signed a deal with mungi 2hours ago, and my internet is now down

      • Don't know about Mungi, but With Aussie BB my internet went down 5 mins after I got off the phone with them. Got a sms a bit later saying the service was installed. I reset my modem and went through the basic settings to setup and was good to go.

      • +1

        Buzz:
        $59/month
        Unlimited
        100/40

        Mungi:
        $74.95/month - $5 for first 5 months =$69.95 (first 5 months)
        Unlimited
        100/40

Speed around 20MB last night but they said it'll take 24 hours to stablise.
        Now around 90.

I got emails from Mungi. Initially with credentials which was quite easy to change since just the user id and password changed.
Then about half an hour laster got an email that service was activated.
Changed to a different port and it worked straightaway.

  • +4

Signed up with Aussie BB. Got my free month and up and running within 20 minutes - and all this at 9.30 pm at night. Good Job Aussie BB!

    • +1

I signed up at 10pm and the transfer occurred within minutes of submitting the order. Unbelievable!

      • Do you hve FTTP or FTTN connection? I signed up with Mungi on 24/4/18, received all settings and they mention I will receive another email when service will be activated..since then I am waiting..They also mentioned my service will become activated in the next 4-24 business hours.

        • FTTN

        • @jackofspade: Thanks,
I am on FTTN too. Do you have modem from Buzz Telco? I bought from Buzz Telco NETCOMM NF17ACV will that work with Mungi?

  • Wish I had seen WP thread earlier: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2713498&…
they charged my card on 18th.

  • Does anyone get this message on ABB

Please note: we have currently stopped connections in your area due to our policy of not selling above more than 80% of available bandwidth. We don't believe it's fair to sell you a crappy, over-crowded service. We have more bandwidth ordered in your area which we expect to come on board around 2018-04-30.
If you're happy to wait you can continue with the signup process below and we'll keep you updated via email on how the bandwidth upgrade is going.

    • I cant see my address in their database. Looks like their database is older than 2 year. Other providers have my address.

    • +1

Yep, although it sucks for you, this is part of Aussie BB's service. They don't oversell the bandwidth. Which is why we all like them.

    • This is AussieBroadband's Stop / Sell policy. If a particular POI reaches a capacity of 80% and they are unable to provision more CVC, then it gets triggered.

This ultimately enables existing customers to not deal with bottlenecks and peak hour congestion.

  • -7

Lol..as if this was a surprise!!

Shittelco doesnt pay bills. Same reason the AAPT kicked them last time.

Lol at the idiots that signed up to this mob despite the warnings.

    • +5

      Really…
A lot of happy customers it seems, including me.
I was paying $19 for 25/5. Where else can i get that?
Also some of us actually turned out in the positive.
2 year contract for the free modem. Only paying $19 per month since i joined..
Saving in my pocket and happy with the service while it lasted…

    • +7

Well, this idiot saved ~$400 by signing up with this mob. As punishment for my stupidity, I now have a free month with ABB. Oh, the pain!

    • +7

Yeah, there's been no disadvantage to signing up to Buzz.

They went bust but they didn't charge a sign up fee and offered month-to-month for lower than anyone else. By the time they disconnect, we can have another service running. No big deal, lots of money saved!

      • +3

You're an idiot if you missed on the deal while it lasted?

      • +3

Got a free modem too ;)

      • -2

if you are happy with having crap speeds to save a few bucks, sure

        • +3

I didn't have crap speeds with Buzz. I, and many others, have been very happy with their speeds.

        • Speaking from experience?
I was getting what i was paying for in terms of speed. Very happy with them

        • @RandomBob84:
I think @Pacify may be speaking from somewhere else!

        • HaHaHaHa sure mate keep stroking your premium $99 a month connection believing you get such better speeds etc. than budget providers.

I've just been hit with the double whammy Buzz is gone on one connection and last night I got the MyRepublic letter to increase prices on the other :-(

I've been paying only $59.99 a month for 100/40 for over a year with MyRepublic and Buzz with no connection issues, Credit card billing issues etc.

So a saving of $80 a month compared with a premium provider like AussieBB.

If you want to see the speeds I get in peak time on HFC for MyRepublic (Buzz wasn't much worse) check these out:

          http://www.speedtest.net/result/7253849114

          http://www.speedtest.net/result/7253892741

          http://www.speedtest.net/result/7254028398

          Read em and weep!!!

        • @prxy: Must be great for gaming - NOT.

If you arent doing much out of the national level then any ISP would suffice.

Probably you were on a POI without much utilisation.

          Show me international speed tests

        • @Hahuh:

HaHaHa yeah mate keep stroking that $99 a month Internet plan ;-)

        • @prxy: Anything less than TelstraGlobal is me throwing money to the wind. You seem to be only using the intranet by the sounds of things.

Services that dont peer and are halfway across the world need quality transit. This is the difference between changing channels in an IPTV environment that has you wait 15secs vs 2.

MyRepublic is literally the bottom of the barrel ISP that prioritizes speedtest.net aka they cheat by allocating full bandwidth when conducting tests.

    • +1

$29 a month for almost a year… I would of stayed if they hadn't gone bust. Lol @ you ya monkey.

      • -2

Lol a dumbfu#k making monkey jokes

Now go and cry to the mods because you feel violated

        😂😂

        • I actually typed mungi lol my phone changed it but you go be but hurt lol.

  • I am moving from ABB to Mungi when ABB change the price, great and fast support

    • Is mungi good as ABB or Telecube?

      • +3

IMO yes, as FTTN user with the max speed of 30-34, my speed is almost stable even at the peak time.

        • I was getting 40-45 :( devastated that it's gone now

      • Mungi is great. Telecube has no contact other than email. ABB is who I would go to if I was in a congested area and they have great support as far as I can tell.

        • I tried calling Mungi yesterday, no reply .. Tried online chat .. Automoted answered to email. So, I think Mungi is same as others only email support most of the time I think. They did not even send me email for internet activation as advised before. Will see how we go with Mungi..

  • +3

I can't complain, I took out their last $19 unlimited special for their slowest plan. It's been stable and absolutely fine for us. Have been with them for 4 months only, but still a saving of a few hundred bucks.
I transferred to the Aussie Broadband free month offer 15 minutes ago and it's already transferred (had a 5 minute loss of connection).
Just wondering if I get my unused $10 refunded from Buzz Telco ;-)

Probably switching to Telecube Whirlpool offer or Amaysim for 6 months for $45 / month after the free Aussie Broadband month.

    • +1

Did you do any change in connection?
I cant see my address in their database, so cant do it online I suppose :(

      • +1

Do you mean the switch to ABB? For the free month with ABB I went with a faster speed, don't feel a big difference to be honest, but speed test confirms speed.

My address was in the database…

        • +1

          Sorry to miss that earlier.
Yes, change in your modem for new connection.

    • +1

I agree. In the end the price was well below the market rate. I was with Buzz for about a 8 months on the nbn 25 for $29.

I was perfectly happy with the speed and connection.

However, most companies now offer NBN 50 at the same price as NBN25.

I will give Mungi NBN 50 plan a go and see how things go.

I did consider exetel however an 18 month contract is a bit too much.

  • +1

Anyone switching to ABB NBN Super Fast 150Mbps/100Mbps and cancelling it after the first month free trial? The plan start from $155pm for 500GB donwloads.. any thought?

  • +2

I paid the first month upfront and modem cost back in August (modem never arrived). When my NBN got moved back I gave them a call in February and asked for a refund of the $209 as I wasn't sure what NBN was doing.

They said no worries, it will be processed in the next billing cycle (?).

Still hasn't been refunded. Not sure it will now. Would be happy if I just got the modem.

  • +1

Mungi Australian owned and operated company?!?

  • +2

buzz was the best service provider when it came to speed and price. i was with auss BB for almost a year with worst internet speed but once i transfered to buzz the speed was superb without any problem. sad that the company is closing, and i hope telecube provides same quality service once i transferred over to them.

  • +1

Has anyone signed up with iiNet or is even considering there bundle? Seem decent but not sure if I'm missing something about there services and fetchtv u should know about

  • +1

If you are going to Telecube use the Whirlpool offer here:

    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2714882

    Free setup and DID

  • Does Mungi Support YuppTV, Popcorntime & any Android TVBox which streams lot of overseas tv serials?

    • Are you asking if they block torrents or are you asking how good their international links are?

      Not sure about the former.

You should ask mungi customers on whirlpool to provide you with their experience accesing sites you are interested in.

  • I assume NBNCo new prices stuffed them. Everyone assumed things would be cheaper with new prices, in reality it's barely a difference for these cheaper providers.

For example, $65 wholesale for the 100mbps bundle… It was probably around ~$55-60 Inc ~1.5mbps. Sure, it now includes 2.5mbps CVC, but it's simply too expensive to offer at $69/mo retail.

    TL;Dr:
They gambled on NBN heavily reducing wholesale prices. NBN didn't reduce in the way expected.

  • What's the next cheapest plan you guys came across? Missed their $19 plan.. Just need connection for my warehouse camera

    • Same. 12/1 is fine for me too. I have a month to find a reasonable replacement.

    • I think cheapest is Telecube $35/m
