Ok. I'm starting to be tempted.

What is the development community like with Xiaomi flagships? Are there any good stock Android roms about?

Looks like a sweet handset, and camera performance isn't as critical to me as it once was (already have that covered). Couldn't care less about front facing, either.

Just not sure about MIUI, though admittedly my experience with that dates back to messing around with the original HTC Desire, haha…

    • The XDA Forums is a great place to start.

      Just not sure about MIUI

I'm not a huge fan of Xiaomi hardware but I think MIUI is one of the more thoughtfully designed Androids.

      • Same. MIUI is good.

        • MIUI is the #1 reason I'm not returning to Xiaomi. #2 being hardware quality (repeated prox sensor issues on multiple models including my own).

    • -1

MIUI is good.. I have been using Xiaomi product since Mi 2s now im using Mi6 MIUI is good.. once you get used to it you may cannot move on from xiaomi ecosystem. but if you want stock rom. Mi mix 2s is included in google android P beta program so yeah stock rom is not a problem

  • +2

Hmmm… I thought only the 8/256 had B28 and other "global bands". I bought the mi mix 2 for this reason (which is still a great phone) but for this price would have probably waited.

    • -2

That's correct. Only the 尊享版 (8GB/256GB version) has global bands that support 226 countries and regions

      • +2

this also have B28, check here might help

      • +3

Incorrect. Of the initial china models, yes only the 8gb/256gb had global bands. Hong Kong sourced models all have global bands, exact same as the China 256gb.

        • Has anyone who has bought 64 global verified b28?

The past 3 threads all discuss it but I haven't seen any one from ozbargain who bought the phone actually confirm it

  • why ceramic body? look better? Id worry about drop and crack it. I prefer metal body.

    • Full metal body doesn't work well with NFC

      • +1

Full metal body works perfectly with NFC.

Qi wireless charging on the hand wouldn't work at all with a metal back.

      • My Nexus 6P disagrees.

If only this is 6.4" or 6.8"…I'll get it right away

    • +7

6.4" is beyond pocket size for most.

      • +1

Luckily, my pockets have holes in them.

get a MI MAX :) Is what ive been using for 2 years and I love it, bloody cheap too!

    • +2

Sounds like you're after a tablet.

    • Mi max 3 hopefully 7".

  • +2

    Cashrewards is 4% so $25.

  • I want to buy this phone. I WANT TO but I know the front camera will make me hate life (as a snapchat enthusiast).
Also, hopefully battery life will get me more than 10-11hrs SOT.

    • +7

10-11hrs SOT? That's aiming too high, friend. Set your expectations low - 5-6hrs.

  • +1

Lenovo Tab3 is good but price is not even near to GB's last deal. So no bargain.

  • +6

NFC and Band 28 are pluses, but no microSD slot and lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack are negatives.

    • USB-C splitters are easy to come by now.

  • hmmm, I bought from the last deal at $675 but GearBest still haven't dispatched. Ordered on the 18th. Reckon I can ask GB to refund the difference? Probably too risky o buy this an hope I can cancel my GB order.

    • +8

LITB didn't dispatch my phone for a month, this timeframe is typical
45 days before order and receipt in the end
Jesus led thousands of israelites for 40 days through a desert while i couldn't get a phone shipped to me in less than that in 2018 the year of our lord

      • Wow - how long was the advertised dispatch time?

        • +1

          um..30 business days? 40?

        • The bible has been in circulation for a long time now…

        • @Exley: LITB is claiming "Processing Time:Ships in 24 hours", wonder if its true then…

        • +1

          @ryaan:
it was 3 days between money received and "posted" for me
post office in netherlands said they finally received it after a month
and then i guess it was stored for the cheapest and logistically efficient flight for them for another week until it arrived here where it stayed another few days in some sorting facility

maybe they straightened up and started paying a bit more to get it out faster, i don't know i don't buy stuff i need urgently from them anymore so i don't check the tracking lest i disappoint myself

        • @Exley:
Did you get the 64gb model? Can you confirm b28 with an app and screenshot?

        • @aong152: I got a 64gb from LITB, how do I check?

        • @abro:
Use "lte discovery" app and walk around until you connect to a b28 tower. You must be on Telstra for it to work.
The reply below confirms that it works though!

        • @MiniInTheBox:

Thanks! It's great that they support b28 on the cheaper models!

        • @PinzVidz: no luck, we don't have taiwan version for now

    hi guys,
Just got one 6G/128G from overseas, but less than 6inch, I used to 6.44inch, seems cannot go back smaller phone, I might sadly let it go, anyone instrested mine, send me a sms.

    • You don't have DM enabled

    • +1

Yeh you don't have PM enabled. PM me with your price and we'll bargain it from there.

  • Notification led?

  • Would be nice to know if just loading new software would enable all bands on this device. There appears to be two version the Chinese Standard version and the global version. Unsure what the difference is beside software https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/specs/mimix2s

  • rep, any chance you would have the 8g/256gb version?

  • +1

I've caught my Redmi note3 Kate updating firmware and apps without my permission multiple times. One of the first times waking up to a phone with data corruption which turned out to be an unauthorised background firmware update. It was easily noticeable in the fact the previous update broke 3g/4g data and I was annoyed with it.. but disabled permissions anyways..

I lost so much data thanks to unscheduled unauthorised updates.
I don't trust Xiaomi anymore. Not worth saving a few dollars at cost of data integrity and security. Running again with Samsung

  • Anyone wanna stop me from buying this, any major cons? comparative models/brands in similar price points? (I wouldn't mind something with a little more space 128/256)

    • Well, I've bought Galaxy Notes for my last 3 phones (v.1, 2, 4) and they're fine at first, but after a while and after you load on security software and all the background apps you inevitably do (that's why you buy a top phone after all), they slow right down, although the Note 4 was not as bad a s the previous two.

I kept saying I'd get an iPhone to get more life from it (usable years), but they're always outrageously priced and they didn't do a large screen for so long. So my thinking is you want as good an android phone as you can get to get max life out of it. Since the stumbling point has seemed to be running all the background apps maybe max ram is the way around it? So an 8Gb ram phone? That's why I went 8/128 Oneplus 6. Bit disappointed in the screen resolution though - not even as good as the Note 4.

      • Yeah, I'm considering these other brands as my last phone or 2 has been samsungs, great phones, but they non removable battery means I'm stuck with a phone that won't even make it through the day, I turn all my apps off when possible but my battery is dead… and I can't swap it out, it's like it's set up to die just as your 24 month contract is up. So maybe a cheaper import is a better option.

        • I used to think a removable battery was an essential and a reason I didn't like the iPhone, but just get a small power pack. I think you mean at the end of its life though? Yes, I don't see what the drama is with having a removable back and battery. Mind you another anti iPhone thing is the lack of bluddy SD card. Just so you'll pay over the odds for a bit more space. Although having whinged about that I could never get my stupid Note 4 to see all the space in an SD card.

  • Price says $486AU now? 56% off

    • Scratch that. The link takes you to the MI MIX 2 (not 2S)

      • hi mate, just checked. the link still mi mix 2s, do you mind try again? and please choose USD currency, fellow the instruction on main post to get lowest price.

  • Oh no! I bought it off the previous LITB deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/376402
any chance of a price match rep?

  • +3

Also, I can confirm the 64gb from LITB has band 28:

    • I love you man

I wonder if I should get the LG G6+ 6G+128GB which has a lower spec CPU but better cameras. It is around $550 AUD DHL delivery from eBAY.

  • How to get free express shipping? it's $10 afaik

Ignore pls, just woke up, realised that was insurance

  • +4

Update: If you want it shipped instantly just lodge a support request saying you want to cancel the order and within 1 hour it'll be shipped and they "can't cancel" :)

    • Oof

    • Worked.

    • although be aware that many chinese shops are known for saying its shipped and giving you a tracking number when it hasn't even been picked up or packaged yet.

      • Just received mine :)
I lodged a support request to cancel as I'd found a different phone 5 minutes after placing the order.
        Happy either way though

        • +1

That was quick. Mine is waiting to be picked up by DHL. hopefully by Friday …

    • Yep, I did the same as I forgot cashrewards. But it wasn't actually shipped until 4 days later…:S

  • Anyone know if these are flashed china versions?

  • My order still not shipped, yet the order status is shipped. They even provided a fake dhl tracking number and keep telling me to check with DHL orm say that my address is wrong. So dodgy.
Tried cancelling the order twice now and they just wont do it.
Going through paypal now. Lesson learnt.
