  • Isn't this the normal price? Adding $13 can buy you the 20,000mAh than add PULL5 so it'll come down to $38ish.

    • +1

It was $28.50 after applying PULL5 code. So the current price is the whole $0.60 cents cheaper before the code :)
Also 20,000mAh doesn't suit everyone. I have 20,000 version but it's too big to be truly portable.

      • It's not too big at all.

I mean people love the Nintendo Switch and call that thing a portable, but it's more than double the size of a 20k power bank.

    • Got a link for the 20,000 version? Thanks :-)

  • +4

This new model is a fair chunk taller than the old model, was rather surprised when I received and had them side by side!

    • The newer model has another USB-port (Dual USB-output), which would explain the difference in size.

      • +1

Does it? It's still the same width and length just the height that's increased shrugs shoulders

        • @RichardL:

This might make it useless to me, can we still get the old one?

        • @carlitos: The same seller still has the old one in Silver left but it basically the same price as this one.

        • It's the difference in battery, I have both models. I prefer the new one despite it being larger.
this is from a review I found.

The old model uses the M74 4.4V 38.5Wh high-density lithium battery, while the new Xiaomi Power Bank 2 (10,000mAh) uses the N22 4.2V 37Wh conventional lithium battery. Its battery volume is larger than the old model’s in despite that they have the same capacity. In general, the new Xiaomi Power Bank 2 (10,000mAh) has better cost performance than the old model.

    • Yup, I was suprised too.

I'm not sure why it's so big.

I can't see why an extra USB-port would make it bigger.

If anything, updated models should be smaller.

  • Hi OP, can you post link to the 20000 mAh item? Thanks

  • +4

im after a new power bank but really want one with a USB C port this tempting but thank you OP for your effort

  • Does this have USB C?

    • from the pics I can't see a USB -C port so im going to say no

    • This power bank doesn't have a USB-C port.

      • +2

most people use usb-A to usb-C cable (often already included) as not all usb -C devices eg phones , MacBook and few other laptops use PD, so you need to check what it is about usb-C that you actually need before paying extra for something like PD and not using it.

        • These people are trying to throw away their micro USB cables and want to usher in C as a standard sooner so they can use one cable for everything.

I think that process will take a bit longer than they are expecting though. Until a case and motherboard has more C ports than A ports, C is not taking over any time soon.

      • +1

I have one of these. No there is no USB-C port. This is QC 2.0.

  • +3

    Do I need a 7th-8th battery…hmm

    • +4

Need?? What is this need? This is OzB. Buy first. Justify purchase later.

      • fine, i bought anther one.

  • I have a OP3T + Oppo QC A/C Travel Charger I use with the bundled OP USB-A to USB-C cable.

Can I use the same setup to QC the Power Bank 2 as opposed to forking out for a Pro?

While USB-C is the future this setup would support more devices for now.

  • What's the best Powerbank that has 2 outputs, supports QC 3.0, power delivery, and is between 13000-22000mah?

    • +5

Power Bank with Power Delivery limits your options. Options (off the top of my head) are:

Not listed in any particular order.

      • Thanks. Looks like its between the Cygnett, Zmi and Anker :D

      • Got any recommendations for smaller power banks? I'm looking for something to take snowboarding, so don't want much weight or size, just a bit of extra juice to get through the day.

        • What are your needs? Quick Charge (QC), Capacity (mAh), ports (Micro USB/USB-C), physical size, price range and for what device (Android/Apple)

This power bank or the previous version is great as they are slim and easily fit in the pocket. Just note this version is taller then previous version.

        • @RichardL:
          Ah, yeah fair questions there!
          Android - Nexus 5X.
USB C but happy to use an adaptor from micro-USB.
QC - don't mind either way.
Size - smaller than this Xiaomi. This may fit in a pocket, but I want a smaller option that won't add bulk/weight/hurt too bad when I crash. Maybe sized closer to a tictac box instead of a phone? I figure smaller size will limit the capacity to < 10,000. $25 as it's only for the odd use, not a long term investment.

I don't use the phone much while snowboarding, only the Mt Hotham app that tracks your runs - and uses GPS. My old phone would make it through the day and be on low % on the way home in the evening, which was fine, but I suspect my current phones battery will be worse off so I'm looking for something to tide me over. No need to give 50% recharge while I use it or anything.

Also - is the previous version of this still available anywhere? I'd rather the smaller one. I had a quick search and didn't spot it easily.

        • +2

@sssx: Unfortunately I don't think there's anything the size of a TicTac Container (that would be safe to use as a Power Bank anyways).

The older version is still available from the same seller, at almost the same price. You can note the size difference in this image.

Another option would be the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 5000mAh, which is abit smaller and slimmer. Here a size comparison.

          or

RAVPower 6700mAh which is about the size of the larger TicTac container.

Just note that the Xiaomi 5000mah and the RAVPower 6700mah don't have Quick Charge and are Micro USB ports.

        • @RichardL: Thanks heaps for the effort!

TicTac container was just to get the idea across, RAVPower one is close size to what I had in mind.

Another Seller, selling for AU $26.85. (eBay Premium Service, 99.3% Positive feedback). This is also QC 2.0.

      why the downvotes?

  • +1

I bought this when it was posted for $30(?)
The seller shipped within mins of my order and I received it in 2 or 3 days.

  • +3

Bought one today from another highly rated Australian seller for $25.99 delivered.

  • There's quite a few priced at $25.99 on ebay. Is there a difference with this one or are they the same model?

    • +1

been looking, and i believe the one op linked is the latest model, the others at $25.99 are QC2.0 instead of QC3.0

      • Ahh thanks. I was looking at the model numbers.

  • +2

Can someone recommend a place to buy a small 5000mah Xiaomi Mi Power Bank?

Sometimes all I need is a small capacity to carry with me, the new 10,000mah Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 2 is very large.

  • +1

Be aware this doesn't do QC charging your phone while its getting QC charged via mains.

The old version does it with QC 2.0 but not this one.

  • +3

It's doubtful this powerbank supports QC 3.0 so I don't think it was a good idea for OP to put QC 3.0 in the title. The reasons are: (1) the listing doesn't show it (2) the specs written on the device is QC 2.0, but not QC 3.0 (Xiaomi generally don't overspecs unlike some other brands) and (3) the review I read for this device shown that QC 2.0 was detected by the testing device, but not QC 3.0.

As mentioned by neonlight, when using pass through charging (i.e. you are charging the powerbank as well as using it to charge your devices), the USB-A ports (ports to charge your devices) are limited to 5V. There was another article I read (which I have difficulty finding it now) indicated that you can still get 2A+ out of those ports while doing pass through charging, but since I cannot find it now, it's best not to assume that's the case. Considered there are so many powerbanks not even supporting pass through charging, I don't think it is an issue.

tl;dr This powerbank may not support QC 3 (does support QC 2). Also note the restriction on pass through charging.

    • I copied the description from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/371240 which states that the powerbank is QC3.0
If it's not correct I'll be happy to edit the post.

    • +1

I own one of these, it does indeed charge QC3.0 if you use a suitable cable, but not while its being charged itself. I dunno if there are multiple versions of the Mi Power bank 2 10,000 mAh

If the description is missing QC3.0 then the next question is whether this is a knock off?

      • How did you measure / check QC 3.0 is supported? You need to check the meter and it needs to show its ability to gradually step up the voltage. The review I read was from chargerlab. The testing device showed QC2 support but not QC3. Also, based on the label in one of the photos of the charger, it is showing 5V, 9V and 12V separately. That's QC 2.0, but not QC 3.0.

I know other manufacturers "cheat" and quote some of their chargers having QC3 but actually only support QC 2.0. Most people won't be able to tell (unless you actually have a USB meter). My understanding is Xiaomi don't over-spec their products normally (they tend to be on the conservative side - which is good). Since the label doesn't state QC3 (and looks like QC2 only), it is best not to tell people this thing is QC 3 ready (unless the photos on the listing are outdated and you will get a new version that actually supports QC 3). All QC3 devices support QC2 anyway. Honestly, QC3 isn't a big deal. In fact, mid range Android phones supporting QC3 often just come with a QC2 charger (i.e. Motorola, Xiaomi mid range Android phones).

For QC3, you need to show its ability to charge at 6V, 7V or 8V for example (or anything between 5V-12V except 5V, 9V and 12V).

        • Yep I have a Galaxy S8 and a USB voltage meter in between it and the Mi Bank 2 to test (using the cable that came with phone).

When screen on, it only charges at 5V.
When screen off (even with Always on display) it increases to 7V straight away. Thought that meant successful QC3, I didn't think about the specific voltage labelling.

When the Mi bank is receiving charge, it only outputs 5V.

Unsure if it goes higher than that cos I haven't watched it long enough.

Yeah the difference between QC 2 and 3 in minutes is negligible at least for my phone!

        • @R-Man: 7V is actually in QC 2.0's spec. So 7V is not a good indication, sorry about that (shouldn't have mentioned 7V).

The "step" / voltage jump actually indicates it is QC 2. QC 3 is supposed to gradually increase. I guess it could also jump to 7V quickly, but it needs to gradually increase: i.e. 7.2, 7.5, 7.8, 8, 8.2, 8.5 etc…

Unless your meter is showing a gradual increase in voltage, it is not QC 3. If the voltage stays constant for a long period of time, then a sudden rise or drop, it's not QC 3 (just QC 2). It is easier to test with a slightly better tester because you plug it in, it detects all the charging modes it can support (which is what the review I saw did).

When screen on, it only charges at 5V

That doesn't appear right for QC 2 or QC 3.

I have two QC 3 capable phones, yet the manufacturers included QC 2 only chargers. I have a charger claiming to be QC 3, but it is actually QC 2 only. The official S8 charger appears to be QC 2 only. It is very common for manufacturers to include a QC 2 charger even if the phone is capable of QC 3 or QC 4. QC 4 is even harder to test unless you have one of those special USB meters which can check all the quick charging types (including Huawei and other ones).

tl;dr Unless you used a proper tester to check QC 3 or you saw gradual voltage increase during testing, it is best not to claim the powerbank supports QC 3. Xiaomi is stating QC 2, I don't really see why there is a need to prove or state it is QC 3.

  • Surely a powerbank with only a single usb c could be smaller? I'd be keen on one of those as I have no need for any other ports. Any ideas?

    • +1

I don't think such a thing exists yet. A single C port would mean you couldn't even charge while charging.

    • The larger the powerbank, the larger the battery inside (so it can store more electricity). It's the battery inside the powerbank making it big, not the port(s). However, based on the review I saw, certain newer versions of Xiaomi Power Bank 2 use a slightly larger size battery (with same current) - slight cost saving.

You cannot expect 10,000mAh powerbank at the size of a USB flash disk. If that's possible, all our phones would have a 10,000mAh battery.

  • OP, Please update title after review. I jumped on this and realised after some investigation that this model does NOT have QC3.0
The QC3 model is PLM03ZM (Type-C) while this one based on the images in the eBay listing is PLM09ZM.

Not entirely a wasted buy, but still annoyed. Review of unit here: http://www.chargerlab.com/2018/01/11/unboxing-the-new-xiaomi…

    • +1

I copied the description from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/371240 which states that the powerbank is QC3.0
If it's not correct I'll be happy to edit the post.

    • The article doesn’t say it does passthru or not.

I got used to my old Xiaomi powerbank doing QC passthru, any idea why new ones don’t any more?

      • Based on reviews, it does passthru BUT only at 5V - so no QC passthru (i.e. cannot do 9V or 12V on the USB-A ports).
If QC passthru is important to you, don't get this one.

        • I think both versions do pass though .

    Gearbite is a local seller?

Give me a break. Probably some craft asian with the means to import from CHina and sell here for a profit.

    • Yes they are a local seller, positioned in Glen Waverly, VIC. All xiaomi products are from china obviously.

    • iPhones are made in China. Most Android phones are made in China.

  • How new is this New model?

    • New doesn't always mean better. Not sure exactly which version this one is. However, one review I saw, which opened two versions of these up, showed a newer version with a slightly larger size battery (holding the same amount of current with the smaller size one). The size difference wasn't huge, but it explained why the newer version reviewed was a bit bigger.

Even Apple can do the same trick. The 1m USB-C to lightning cable is now cheaper… but there is a catch. Apple removed USB 3 data pins out, hence the newer version is USB 2.0 only (and the wire is a bit thinner). Since most people probably use those cables for iPhone 8/X USB-PD charging anyway, they might not care. I went to an Apple store and the store only has the new version in stock. Some retailers still have the old version (and they didn't know this so they sell them at the same discounted price - except some still have the old price label / higher price).

      • It does have qc3 which is faster but your right it is bigger and heavier. It may not be worth the few extra dollars over the original.

        • Huh? How do you know it has QC 3 for sure? The chargerlab review showed the newer model it reviewed at the time was only QC 2 capable - no QC 3 support. Unless you actually tested it using a USB meter or USB QC2/3/USB-PD test device, it is best not to claim QC 3 support.

QC 3 phones all support QC 2 (backward compatible).

I know some other manufacturers quoted QC 3 support on chargers which are clearly ONLY capable of QC 2. Xiaomi don't do that. From the photos, the specs show QC 2 only. If you are indicating people will be getting a powerbank that's different to the photos, then you cannot be sure exactly which powerbank they will be getting unless you work for the seller.
