    cue the how-can-something-so-small-hold-so-much-data-for-so-cheap comments.

i'll start. wow. how is this even possible!?!

    • +6

How can something so small hold so much data for so cheap?

    • Technology

    • +5

By not focusing on the limits of whats possible, and instead taking it one improvement at a time.

    • How can something so small be so impressive?

    • +1

Its not the size, its how you use it…

    • Atoms are very small.

    • Did you know that in 1956, 5Mb of storage was the size of a supertanker?

  • +9

    Is a perfectly cromulent price

    • +2

"A Nobel spirit embiggens the smallest card".

  • Is it a bad idea to use it for storing the entire Lightroom catalogue?
(It will also be backed up on an external HDD but being on a SD it will be easy to switch from one laptop to another)

    • +2

If it involves a lot of reads or writes that cause wait times then an SSD in a enclosure with UASP or a portable SSD might be better.

      • problem is … the HDD is external. The SD fits perfectly in the laptop. Apart from wait times, are there any more issues?

    • +1

No, it's not a bad idea, micro SDs have better access times and 4K read and write than hdds (and a lot of USB flash drives for some reason) so it should be quicker to offload off of when you want to backup your stuff, it should theoretically be faster at building previews compared to a HDD because of this but i haven't experienced it personally.

Micro SDs anecdotally have questionable reliability however in my experience, so if you're going to pick up a new storage device regardless you might want to consider a usb ssd. they're a bit bigger and more expensive but they're faster (though lightroom may not be strenuous enough for there to be much of a difference) and they have more advanced controllers to address errors and over provisioning to improve endurance. I did a quick look around and this (256GB WD SSD. $126.40 with PAMPER20 coupon) seems like a pretty good deal for a similar amount of storage and a relatively (for portable ssds) compact enclosure. Just somehting to consider.

Thanks. The reason I'm considering an sd is because it's so small and fits inside the laptop. The ssd would always be external. I love to travel as light as possible and with less items that I could potentially lose. So I might go for the sd

Just remember it's good for Storing data, but not good at Accessing data.

As in, treat it like a HDD.
Write until its 90% full (don't overfill), and read Data Slowly… if you keep rewriting it, or stress the Read aspects too fast the Flash will get corrupted. That's why they don't recommend using these ones for constant recording/DashCams.

        • @Kangal:

          Thanks for that

  • +4

hmm i paid 14 bucks more for the same 256 GB and same seller and just arrived last thursday. Grumble.

    for the lazy;

    32 GB - $16.75
    64 GB - $26.80
    128 GB - $51.26

    • +2

Buy it again and refund? Just spend 1 dollar to ship it back in an envelope.

      • +4

        PayPal pays return shipping.

    • +2

      What are these numbers? For 128 GB, I'm getting 20% off $67.45 = $53.96…

      • They must have price adjust as demands increase and stock deplete.

Edit: Hahaha my computation was wrong. Just check my mobile calculator history. Hence the wrong price after discount. Thanks for the correction..

    • Yep same :( too much effort returning it and buying another one since im not in the country lol

    • Buy it on credit card? check if your CC has some sort of "purchase insurance" for exactly your scenario.

P.S. For the sake of humanity, please don't do the buy it again and refund BS

    • Thanks. Price per GB still best on the 128gb card, so will keep waiting on the 256gb card.

  • +1

grr bought a 128gb recently from another seller.
it's now only $45.02 with the pull5 code, I tested this card and the speed and capacity seem to check out (didn't have time to run the full test with h2wtest but a similar programs quick check passed it and failed another card I tried that was only 150mb)

    • They upped that a little bit to now $45.69

Is the EVO+ better than the vanilla EVO U3 for $46.32?

  • I got the JoyBuy Sandisk deal on here yesterday, (it's still on):

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/383345

    64Gb $21.53

    128Gb $39

    • +2

Note, the EVO Plus is a lot faster than SanDisk Ultra (from my testing).

      • Yeah, but I'm only using the 128 for imaging son's laptop, so speed not really an issue for me.

    • Or on amazon 200gb card is $67 delivered with the new account $20 off.

  • Can anyone tell me would joy buy cards be legit?

  • +1

Nice one, was waiting for ~$110…this is close enough!

  • For anyone interested in performance (I only have the 256GB version of this model).

Finally at a price I am happy with for the 256gb for my switch, and not sure I want it any more. Have found 2 64GB Samsung Evo+ cards I have lying around which should do the job anyway.

  • Thanks. Just grabbed a 256GB for my S9+ arriving next week

    • I have a 64gb, wish i had the 256!

  • +1

Bold prediction. With the release of the 'Xecuter SX Pro' for the Switch less than a fortnight away, demand for - and price of - these high capacity cards will see a sharp increase. With game ROMs regularly running at 15GB+, it won't take many to fill a card.

  • picked up a couple of these in 128 @ $50 a couple of days ago from HN. debating on returning one as i havent opened it and nabbing one of these, cause this is a great steal!

  • how come 16gb dram costs the same price? dram too expensive

    • How come nashi cost more than Granny Smith?
