    $12.45 and local certified stock

No way I'd suggest installing this, for your own sake as well as the next home owners

Neg for the local option being not much more and a lot safer.

    • +7

I agree … The $12.45 ones even come with installation instructions for the sparky !

      • pretty crap instructions though.

        • Are they in English?

        • +1

You need a licensed electrician to install these

        • @ATangk:

And that licensed electrician probably won't install a power point which isn't Australian certified.

        • -1

          @ATangk:

define "need". Thousands of people have proven otherwise.

won't install a power point which isn't Australian certified.

Is that based on actual experience of what sparkies do?
And is that actually some requirement? AFAIK, such things are legal to import for personal use, but not to sell.

        • @manic: you replied to the wrong person. And my comment was a meme from the previous link.

If your house burns down and they find this PowerPoint in your house you won’t get a cent from insurance.

        • @ATangk: only if the power point was the cause of the fire. If your house explodes because of a faulty gas heater the power point won't be a problem.

Having said that, I wouldn't touch these with a barge pole.

          @hollykryten:

But it is certified, is it not?

Will my product approved by SAA be accepted Australia wide?
SAA Approvals has been gazetted as a Recognised External Approvals Scheme by the Minister for Fair Trading (NSW) and all other States of Australia as well as New Zealand recognise SAA Approvals under the Mutual Recognitions Agreement.

You can look up the SAA number here

SAA-161539-EA - Model OM-6201-20, it has SAA certification and RCM compliance.

RCM came into force March '18, (Australia-wide except NSW) - it only refers to electromagnetic interference, (same as C-Tick), the SAA covers whether it is safe to install.

        • @4wd: Looks the same as this one being sold in Aus. (Apart from what's on the rear sticker)

          http://electricdirect.com.au/double-usb-power-point-socket-o…

        • @Rogerwilco:

There's quite a few on ebay that look identical, some with an SAA number that doesn't check out, (example), some with a GMA number that does, (example).

If you're going to buy one for installation at least get one with a certificate that checks out ;)

        • @hollykryten: Hi, it is Australian certified, please do not worry.

    • -8

There are three grounds in the wiki for a neg:
      1. Not the cheapest available - this appears to currently be the cheapest
      2. Defective product - do you have any evidence this item is defective? If so, that would be very helpful and worth mentioning. Since you have not mentioned you have this information we must assume you don't.
      3. major issues with retailer - again, you don't mention that you have a problem with Zapalstyle…

So, what we have is a guess that you doubt the item is safe and/or compliant with Australian standards. Personal skepticism does not appear to be a valid reason for a neg. It really seems closest to 'I don't like this deal'.

As it happens, I agree with your sentiment - but don't think its a valid neg based on the wiki.

      • +2

15 people have downvoted this comment - but not one can give a valid reason why I am wrong…

        Typical mob mentality.

      • +3

And now we have confirmation from the store rep that it IS Australian certified…
Don't you all look stupid now.

    • +1

Agree…. I thought i asked anyone in ozb not to post some unknown Chinese brand power outlet or adapters.. anything to do with direct plug, please do not be a tight ass. Remember your life is priceless. And if you had bought from zapal then you understand their qualify…

      • +5

I thought i asked anyone in ozb not to post some unknown Chinese brand power outlet or adapters

Because OzB is going to bend to your wishes…

    • maybe ozb should have a local category

    • This deal is obviously in response that one, in which people were upset that there was no way to turn off the USB ports

    • Hi, this item passes Austrilia certification, please do not worry.

  • +3

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/383494

Only sightly more but at least it's Aussie stock with warranty.

  • +3

Im thinking you posted this just for comment generation and selfish amusement, good on you..

    • +3

      He's just Being Askhole

      • +1

Yeah.. weekend was going very quiet :D

  • Australian standard?

    • -1

      Its says

two AU standard three-prong jack on the shell

      • I read that as Gold Standard three-prong jack…. not sure what that is.

  • -5

Easy to install make sure the power is on and stand in a bowl of water nothing to it.

    • -2

What do you think? Read from the top

    • Yes it is, look up the SAA number.

    • Yes, it is Austrilia certified and can be used in Austrilia, please do not worry.

  • It states "Protection Cover for USB Ports : With a cover over the USB port for protection, protect your kids from accidental electric shock."

The only way you could get an electric shock from a USB is if the device is faulty, 5VDC is a fraction of the voltage you need to get an electric shock.

    • not if you stick your tongue in it

    • +1

You could get a shock if the USB port is somehow connected to live (eg capacitive dropper with active/neutral reversed).

Check out Big Clive's youtube videos on lethal camping lights.

  • Not as good as the AU bunnings 2amp USB is total the other deal had 3.4 amp USB supply.
So if I wanted to burn my place down exploding mobile battery style bunnings would be the better bet to over amp the battery with the 70% increase of power

  • Better to get from Costco, 2pk for $30. Surely Australian certified for use in Australia

    • Donald J. Trump would not pernit that.

  • I can't see a proper licensed electrician installing this a non Australian certified power point.

    • How do you work that out?

    • Hi, it is Austrilian certified.

  • -1

If only this was Xiaomi brand…

  • +3

    Zap some pals

  • -2

cant install this for insurance reasons…

  • +1

I would advise against installing any USB charging device that is permanently turned on, that is without an on/off switch or able to be unplugged, regardless of being certified or not.
