You had me at "full screen facial"

  • no NFC on this which is a real shame, itd be a perfect budget phone otherwise.

    • +3

The perfect budget phone is abut 20 bucks more: Sharp Aquos S2 @ Joybuy

      • +4

Sharp Aquos S2 no 3.5mm jack. But the Oppo isn't the perfect budget phone either, the Redmi Note 5 or Nokia 6 2017 are much stronger contenders.

Buying stuff from China is not comparing apples with apples.
If you buy from Target, you can return it if you don't like it.

        • even if it has been opened? Are you sure?

          @clandestino:
From the "Reurns and refunds" tab on the ebay listing:

          Free Returns
You can return items that you have purchased from the Target eBay store back to us via the post or to your local Target store. If you have changed your mind or require an exchange, goods must be returned within 28 days from delivery.

If you purchased an item from the Target eBay store and it’s not of acceptable quality or doesn’t match the description, you can return it. Just bring it back with proof of purchase and we’ll repair it or exchange it or give you a refund for your purchase using your original payment method. Our policy provides you with additional benefits to those under Australian Consumer Law.

Items must be in their original packaging and in new condition suitable for resale. Manuals, packaging and accessories must accompany electrical and electronic products.

I would not use the Optus SIM included in the pack

        • @clandestino: I've returned this exact phone to Target but it had to be sealed. I checked with their online customer service first to make sure.

        • @chichi:

Thanks Chichi and froode. I'll check with them just to be sure.

      • How does it work exactly? Like buying ebay giftcard using 'wish egift' card at woolies store?

  • Jeez I cant believe Optus want $80 to unlock this directly with them haha. What an absolute rort that is!

    • are there any cheap unlock options (ebay etc)

EDIT > found Ebay seller opffering unlock for $18.99 but can take a week.

The OP post has it listed at the end of description

Oops … read in full next time!

    • I always unlock optus phones for free just use a sim card account thats charged over 80 dollars before in credit like my original optus sim card. Works for me every time.

  • 16MP front camera but only 13MP rear? Are selfies really the priority when it comes to camera hardware?

    • +5

Megapixels are not a good metric, even remotely, for cameras.

The reality is that the 16MP selfie cam is probably 8MP interpolated. Good chance that it has a higher aperture as well.

    • +6

Why do people still believe a higher megapixel count = a better camera?

      • +2

        Nokia 808 :)
        (oh and maybe Lumia 1020)
However for the most part megapixels don't equate to better photos…

      • Because that's all phone manufacturers market them as.

        • Yes it's easy to fool the technically inept that way. The average person will assume bigger numbers = better.

          That's why they do it.

  • How are the cameras on Oppo phones? My mum's looking for a sub $200 phone with the best camera.

    • +2

At this price point it's better than anything else you could get locally. That applies to the whole phone too, you can't get anything with these specs/features/performance for under $200.

The only negative is using colorOS in my opinion, but that won't be an issue for your mum.

    • -7

you can get a second hand or refurbished pixel1 around 200~300$

    • +1

I have this phone. The Aquos S2 is much better camera. The low light is horrendous and background blooming like an iphone.

    • +1

Own 2 and highly recommend camera

    Hi All,

I tried to do my research, but just want to double check. Will this phone be suitable for Kogan (Vodafone) sim? Obviously after the unlock process

    • +1

      Yes.

    • +2

Hi.. Got this phone and unblocked from eBay and using on kogan network.. Works fine.

  • No 3G 850 for telstra network :(

  • -6

If you put this in your pocket and sit down would it snap in half?

  • Can this be updated to ColorOs 5.0?

    • +6

Very unlikely. Oppo are awful with updating/supporting their phones.
There may be some bug fix updates but generally your stuck with whatever it ships with.

  • Is it in Optus stores?

  • put your old optus sim in then ring to unlock for free
    ]

    • ????

  • +1

What a deal, I would so jump on this but that Colour OS or whatever it's called… I just can't.

If only all OEM's would stop molesting Android and ship them as Android One devices, man would the budget Android market be heaven.

  • the other half got one for bigw 199, got the ebay unlocking but it will not work with telstra, msgs work and internet but not calls? get a new unlock code from optus and didnt work either. Is this cause of the bands?

    • +2

It might be that Optus disable the 3G 850Mhz band and 4G B5 band in firmware.
I have this experience with an Optus prepaid Alcatel A3 that also has a MediaTek CPU.

You can work around this using an app, see my post here

  • Just wondering re: network lock

If I use a sim from an Optus reseller (eg Catch Connect) which is on the Optus network, does this require unlocking?

ie: does it specifically need to be an Optus sim or will any sim on the optus network suffice?

    • +2

Any Optus reseller's SIM should work

  • -3

Unless it has a huge battery that 6 inch FHD screen will chew it up.

    • +2

The SOC inside this phone is very power effecient. The phones battery should do just fine.

  • Amaysim uses Optus 4G network. Will Amaysim SIM work in this phone without unlocking this handset? Asked optus online - was told will need to pay fee. Anyone with Amaysim have tried Amaysim SIM in any 'locked' Optus Pre-paid mobile.

    • +1

Using another Locked Optus phone with Amysim.

      • Thank you. Badly needed a new low priced phone with my Amaysim. Off to ebay to order one.

  • Where do you put the discount code?

    • At checkout page - Gift cards/vouchers at the bottom of page where it says enter code.

  • Back in stock :)
    $189.10 with PULL5 code

  • Anyone received shipping info yet?

    • +1

Yes. I received notification Friday night - though when I check the tracking it just says "Shipping information received by Australia Post".

      • Cheers, got my shipping notification this afternoon.
