  • Also doesn't work

  • +3

    get a new email?

  • Worked for me, I have two YouTube accounts, one had recently had YouTube Red activate (within 6 months) the other, not.
On the other it said "Extend Free Trial - 3 Months Free"
So it acknowledges i've used free trial in the past, but must have been over 6 months ago (as stated by OP)

  • +1

Just make a new account and cancel subscription, lasts until 3 months are up and won't charge.

Cobra Kai alone is worth it

    • And Impulse.

      • MRE Steve is worth it, no ads!

        • Lets get this out on a tray…nice

  • +3

Isn't it better to use the the Google Play Music 90day trial trial considering it still shows $11.99 for an individual account and includes Youtube Premium? Seems like existing accounts which have GPM will stay at the same price?

    • If it still works and you intend to be an ongoing subscriber, agreed, definitely the way to go.

    • +1

Google Play sub is still $9.99 for me.

      • USD maybe?

        • +2

think it was from this deal. I regret cancelling that sometime ago and being charged 11.99 now

        • @djprima:
Damn! How did I miss that???

        • @djprima: Just have a few accounts on constant "Free trial" rotation. I just signed up again, PayPal payment, then straight to PayPal to cancel the payment agreement so I don't have to remember too in 3 months time

        • +1

@tryagain: how do you cancel the payment agreement on paypal?

        • +1

          @cruizerdog: settings>payments>manage automatic payments>choose the payment>cancel.

      • Same here, I signed up when Google Play Music was first offered in Australia. YouTube app says I have YouTube Premium.

    • -2

No indication that it includes Youtube Premium anymore from what I see… Youtube Red has been removed… Looks like it only gets you Google Play Music and Youtube Music

      • +4

I have a current GPM subscription to October and I can assure you I have Youtube Premium.
Clicking through this link it says
        "Billed through Google Play Music"

    • I find Youtube Music is much better for obscure stuff because any random person can upload stuff, but that means it also isn't the best as far as the interface or managing playlists. So it depends on what you want to listen to I think.

      • How do you find it post update? I find that they've kinda stuffed it as the "obscure" stuff I listened to no longer appears in mixes etc.

        • I haven't used it much since the update. To be honest I use the subscription to listen on the normal YouTube app more often than the music app as I listen to a lot of longer mixes or specific channels and they are easier to find on youtube. I always found the algorhythm and interface was a bit off on the music app.

    • i just resubbed the 90 day trial today because it has been awhile since i've used it. i don't seem to have youtube red and i'm still getting ads

  • +2

3 months free before I sign in.
One month free when I do.

    • +1

      Same for me as well

  • Difference between Youtube music and Youtube red? Most of the features seem to be the same.

    • +1

I believe Youtube Red will cease to exist and instead there will be two subscriptions.

Youtube Music just gives you access to the music service (basically a Spotify competitor with additional YT music videos), while the new Youtube Premium service is more like what Youtube Red used to be - all the stuff you get in the music service plus ad free Youtube and acccess to originals and offline downloading.

Fourteen duller and ninety nein cents

  • Woo signed up for my second free month of YouTube red yesterday night, then 11.99 recurring. I guess I hit the go button at the right time.

  • works for me. never signed up before.

  • +6

Was the name YouTube Red a marketing error? It sounds so similar to another online video site with "red" in its name :D

    • Or marketing genius I'll let you decide ;) Lol

Pay $10 a month to get special member benefits on both of them xD

  • +1

why did they change the name to Premium, I like Red tube better

    • I know you're being sarcastic, but they're getting rid of Google Play Music and made Youtube Music to take its place

  • Only getting 1 month trial after sign up

  • just makes a fake google account

  • Family price has gone from $18 a month for the Red/Play Music Combo, to $23 a month for Youtube Premium.

    • So through the link pasted above about a 3 month google play music trial
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/292361

You can still sign up for a family plan at $18 a month rather than $23. Which should turn into a Youtube Premium (rather than Youtube Music), as currently at $18 a month it includes Google Play Music and Youtube Red.

So fair enough Youtube Premium is replacing Youtube Red. But it looks like Youtube Music is quite different to Google Play Music.

Google Play is the same as spotify. While Youtube Music seems to want and try and give videos with the music etc.

      • I've been using youtube music for a year or so I think, so its not new. Interesting if optus will include youtube music unmetered as part of entertainment plan, that would be great!

  • Better to subscribe through google play music ($11.99) as this one will be billed $14.99 after trial? I can't find the difference, not sure why priced differently. Better yet go with family plan and split the cost with 5 of your mates

    • Google family plans allow access to the family payment method, which has to be a card (not prepaid gift vouchers). So people could buy stuff.

Unlike Spotify where family is awesome.

      • There's a setting to require approval for every purchases. And do invite trusted ones ;)

        • Only if the person is under 18 if you want to block all paid content.
You can block in app purchases for all people in the family group though.

        • @kulprit: There is a thread on here for people forming/wanting to join a group, I think the safe way is to use a prepaid visa card but I am sure someone there has figured out the best way to do it. It's $36pa from memory.

    Just use ad blocker.

  • -3

    So sht cant subscribe

  • I can confirm that signing up for a Google Play Music Family plan ($17.99/month) DOES get you and your family Youtube Premium.

    Notes from my frustrations:
You won't be allowed to sign up for a Google Play Music Family Plan IF you are already a part of a Family Group.
This is confusing AF… the 'Family' option simply won't appear in my experience. You can leave the family group though and join/create another, but you can only create/join one Family Group per 12 months (apparently)… so be careful.

    Edit:
Once you're signed up, go to families.google.com and it'll show whos in your Family Group, and what you are sharing. It will list Youtube Premium Family Plan there :)

    Final edit:

Google Alphabet Inc. (!) are awful at naming things. High five if you agree

    • Just did this as well while the google play music family for $18 is still available rather than youtube premium family for $23.

      • Same. It tells me YouTube Premium costs more & do i wish to upgrade at a cost of $23/month for family.

        • Hi, just wanted to confirm you do get YouTube Premium after signing up to the $17.99 family Google Play Music plan? Getting mixed responses and it only mentions YouTube Music on the chart. Cheers.

  • Google really overvalues their premium content

I thought it was a ripoff at $12 a month for Youtube Red and Streaming Music (i don't want their original content, just no adds and occasional music), this is just apple levels of cost v benefit (ie very low benefit)

    • +1

      Eh?
Personally I think it's the best value offering out there.

The price is on par with other services for Music alone. (noting that it's still $12/month for existing subscribers)
      On top of that;
      1) you can upload your own library to fill out the gaps in the Music Library (something none of the competition allow anymore)
      2) you get Ad-Free Youtube AND
      3) original Video content of increasingly good quality

The 3rd component has only really just started rolling out, but Cobra Kai was excellent and Impulse looks good from reviews and the trailer (haven't yet got around to watching any further than that).
