It's a way of destroying their reputation by charging people for postage, where there was no cost before and by making us pay for discounts that were free before.

  • Hoping for some better discounts next week on X and/or S. Go stocktake season.

Good deal this one. Still, some people would buy the ps4 pro for the exclusives alone let alone any other reasons so I think they need to try and make the X cheaper.

    • Most xbox player just want a big AAA 3rd party game console I think. So it suits them fine.

  • is VR coming to Xbox anytime soon?

    • No.

Microsoft have recently said they won't be bringing VR to the current generation.

      • Taken with a grain/shovel of salt, but I heard that MS is potentially focusing on a release of a new platform that will have VR in 2020 or later. The current gen is getting on, not as much if you count Pro/X, so I guess 2020 or so would be a reasonable time frame for a new console? As much as I heard that both MS & Sony were just going to continue releasing similarly upgrades systems it makes sense from a business perspective, IMO, to release a new platform as it’s exciting and a new marketable brand, rather than something older.

So, in a nutshell my understanding is that MS is working on a VR of some sort but they’ll wait until their new brand is released. Why, I don’t know, but I don’t think the Sony PSVR has been super successful, which probably plays a part in their decision not to rush something to market now anyways.

        Jeez I waffle. Sorry.

If they both carry on the x86 and DirectX/OpenGL I can't see why XBox One games and PS4 games couldn't work on XBox 4 and PS5, which would be great.

As for VR, if they don't change platforms much that could really help with cross platform gaming that'll work on PSVR, Oculus Rift, Vive and the other headsets.

who cares, VR at current price points mean anything for a console will have poor/average sales or be crappy quality, aka PSVR. We are still a few years off before it is viable for a console in a meaningful way.

      • Agree 100%.

      • it's not even viable for pc really

    • No, and I’m glad they won’t. I’d rather they invest the time and money on focusing on conventional gaming. VR is not ready. It’s too expensive and the tech is not there yet. In it’s current state it’s nothing more than a gimmick. I’ve tried it, and while it’s fun, I wouldn’t want to play low res games with a big headset for any more than like 30 mins.

It’s a pretty lousy investment when you think about how much use you’d get out of it. The Xbox One X has 4K, which I’d take any day over VR.

      • Those things don’t seem mutually exclusive to me, they could work on both things at the same time. I think it’s an excuse rather than a reason that they don’t support VR headsets, which is supported by windows. Investing in the ecosystem is just as important as investing in the technology in my opinion.

The lack of VR support is what stopped me from upgrading from my Xbox One S because compared to that, the X doesn’t bring much to the table. Same games that run identically if you don’t have a 4KTV.

  • Very tempting. Is it worth it over ps4 pro?

    • Absolutely YESS
I use PS4 pro and used my mate’s Xbox X
Graphics and utility an easy win above PS4 Pro
      Xbox X is native 4K (true 4K)
      PS4 pro is not
And it plays 4K movies , audio decoder from Dolby x to 5.1 etc etc etc …

But if ur not using 4K tv , don’t bother…good enough with Xbox One S

      • Graphics and utility an easy win above PS4 Pro
        PS4: I got exclusive games.

        • Atari: I also got exclusive games

Xbox X & PS4 : Yes that’s the reason ur so much better than us..ppl should not waste money on us or PC but just buy $30 Atari coz it has exclusives

Anyways…both consoles have exclusives and Xbox X enhanced games are now available and also so many existing titles have been now optimised for Xbox X
Also Microsoft Studios make really good exclusives don’t worry (minus Last of Us)
Plus this post is for $500 pro vs $500 Xbox One X
Go for X heaps better console .

Buy $200 PS4 from gumtree or Facebook later whenever u can to play ‘Exclusives’
Coz there is negligible doffernece in Pro vs Normal PS4 (I just upgraded so I know)

        • @Jabberwocky:

Well as we're talking about XB1X and PS4Pro, which are both 8th generation gaming consoles, it might be unfair for those like Atari who have quite a few years to be involved. Apparently, PS4 (no Pro here) has more popular exclusives than XB1 (PC: Hey I have most exlusives, all availble on just one platform), which has contributed to its outselling XB1.

However, I don't think XB1 X should be at the same sub-generation as PS4 Pro because when SONY released PS4 Microsoft releasese XB1, and then PS4 Pro and XB1 S but SONY hasn't released anything new yet as a response to XB1 X. That's why a post of $500 XB1 X is more popular than a $500 PS4 Pro post (I guess a $500 Pro is not a bargain but a $500 X is kind of, right? so…)
