  • Reckon it will be back?

  • Good if you want to refresh and reuse your kfc wet wipes?

Then refresh and reuse again to remove makeup and eyeliner?

    • How does that work exactly? This evaporates very quickly, so how do you reseal the packet?

  • damn i bought from same seller for $15.
    does ebay do price guarantee?

    • does ebay do price guarantee?

No. The seller may. Worth a shot to message them directly.

  • +1

With all of these seemingly informative comments, no one even mentioned that it's primarily use for disinfecting wounds such as cuts, scratches and bruises. It also great for rubbing it all over the body for a truly clean and refreshing feel. Hence Isopropyl Alcohol is also widely known as Rubbing Alcohol.

If all you want to use it on stuff such as electronics, taps. showers. glass and any other objects, then using metho is the perfect solution for them.

    • Yeah, I'm unsure why there are so many comments about using it for cleaning when ethanol is cheaper and more effective.

      • +3

Ethanol leaves a residue like an oil layer its shiny and slippery.

Pure alcohol doesn't leave any residue its very clean and dry extremely quick also its non conductive.

I am talking about cleaning in electronics usage.

          Ethanol is pure alcohol.

Pure ethanol doesn't leave a residue as it all evaporates.

      • +2

Where can you get pure ethanol?

        • +1

4L for $13.41.. >95% ethanol, <5% demineralised water. SDS sheet.

Not as cheap as this deal, but obviously this supply is limited whereas it's that price at Bunnings weekly.

        • +1

          @Comfortably Numb:

          That's not pure ethanol though.

It also has bitrex and cyclohexane added.

Bitrex can leave a residue / taste.

        • @Comfortably Numb: You can't get pure ethanol without paying through the teeth due to alcohol tax, that's exactly why IPA is used when low residue is required.

    • +2

As I understand it, rubbing alcohol generally contains ~70% isopropyl alcohol with the rest being water, additives, etc.
Generally you want more alcohol and less non-alcohol when cleaning electronics, or anything of that nature, hence why the purer version for sale here is used.

  • Damn…I use this stuff all the time. Will have to keep an eye out in future.

    • same, i. us it from radio parts and it’s $35 for 5 litres …..i’d buy this at $25 for 5 litres delivered ……no more buying metho if i can get this at 5 l for $25 delivered ….

  • Anyone in Brisbane looking to split some let me know. I missed out :-(

    • Hey mate i think they restocked again. Get in quick!

      • Lucky I checked before getting my Zzz's. Ordered one! Thanks for the heads up people.

I do wonder if we'll ever actually get it lol. Like a whole warehouse of this stuff or they're just randomly adding stock on eBay:P

        • I'm just thinking how much it'd cost them to ship that 5L bottle to Perth possibly over $10?? lol

    • It's back in stock with more than 10 available right now.

      • Wonder how long it will last this time? lol

        • +1

Not sure but I snagged one this time. Now I can do a taste test with the other two brands I've got lying around.

  • Finally got one with cashrewards = $9.90 :p

  • Does anybody know what "Sold as special offer " means in the purchase history, or how it works in this context? Thanks.

    • +1

my guess is because it's on discount?? 59% off compare to the $24.95 original price?
Edit. oops, didn't actually click in the history before replying

I guess it's someone using a discount code? maybe they bought multiple bottles or combine with other items

    • +2

  • +2

Got one just because everyone else is getting one. Thanks OP.

  • +2

Grabbed 3 for $25 shipped. I normally get 1-2 L for that price. Absolute bargain. I use this stuff to clean phones, cameras, appliances, glass etc, it's great!

    • How?

      • How what?

        • Nvm

    • I bought two, had I realised I would have got a third one for $5. Silly me.

Now let's just hope this deal is legit…

  • And its gone again and the price has returned to $24.95.

  • Anyone in the NSW North Shore bought too many and would like to resell, please PM me. Cheers.

  • Back in stock but also back to the original price. Changed OOS to Expired. 634 sold in 24 hours, I hope the shop honours all purchases.

  • Thanks OP. Fri night drinks with mates sorted.

  • AU $24.95 :(

  • +3

Still good value at $24.95 shipped.

    • Yes…good value. I'd been meaning to get some bulk isopropyl alcohol, so bought some anyway. Had a $30 voucher from eBay for a recent selling promotion, and cap it off with the $5 discount for 3. This stuff is very handy…I'm always using it for cleaning the surface of something or to clean up after using some glues, and my wife can use it in the garden to clean tools (prevent spreading infection between plants with secateurs and saws and whatnot).

  • +1

You wonder about the price of these things. It doesn’t look like isopropyl alcohol is especially tricky to make industrially. Yet here we are going nuts for $10 5L

    • +3

It's because we Aussies always get shafted with the price for IPA. Overseas such as in the USA, it's cheap as chips and sold everywhere, but here it's hard to get and very expensive because reasons.

      Fixed it for you :P
I was tempted to buy a second then thought about how big a 2L bottle of milk was …
I think I'll end up using half and the other half will just evaporate over time lol

Its 19.95 a pop now, semi-price-jacking due to popularity?

    • +2

Not price jacking, the original price is $25, it has less discount now.

      • Thats why I put semi there

        • +6

Removing a discount does not constitute "price jacking", so removing some doesn't constitute "semi-price-jacking". Diluting the term just makes price jacking's illegality seem ok.

        • -2

@mattythecapybara: well, we don't even know what's the cost price so reducing the discount while the item is popular is still price jacking to me

        • @djprima: Price jacking is when a price is raised due to a sale. An example is stores increasing their prices the day before a 10% off sale, reducing the discount and sometimes even negating it completely.

In this case it's just a popular item that went on sale and then the sale ended, completely normal and no price jacking.

BTW, I like your GTO account image.

        • @BradleyDS2: Cheers mate :)

  • Very hand for cleaning print beds on 3d printers… I paid a lot more for my 5l drum …

  • Wow, the seller bumped the price to $19 and to $25 now :o

    • +8

After selling 650+ units @ $10ea they have every right to bump the price back to the original listing price.

      • OK, I had no idea that was the original price.

  • -1

Can you drink it thinking of buying it for the office Christmas party?

    • +5

You could drink, but it would then be a group suicide kind of party.

  • Oh bugger, I've been looking for a decent price for a couple of weeks now. It looks like the deal was OzBargained by hoarders before I even saw it. :-(

I need it for electronics, and for keeping the brewing area/equipment clean/sanitised.

    • +3

If you want to de-flux PCBs, you don't need IPA. Methylated spirits is suitable. Let the PCB soak in metho for about a minute, then use a dishwashing scrubbing brush to dislodge the loosened flux. Let it drip-dry for five minutes or so, then use a spray bottle of metho to give the PCB a second rinse, letting the metho run off.

For an even cleaner result, skip the spray bottle, and use a foam of Safewash 2000 (it's a detergent designed for flux removal). Put a small amount in a jar, and apply with a ~25mm-wide paintbrush, in a way that produces foam. Leave sit for 2-3 minutes and wash off in water. Produces squeaky-clean PCBs.

Make sure you use gloves when handling the metho, and check each time that your gloves haven't developed holes. Otherwise, the denaturant in Metho will seep through any holes into your skin, and your fingers will taste foul for days. No eating food with your hands!

Also note that if you do this outdoors, due to the odour, I have found that metho attracts wasps. Do it in a well-ventilated room with fly screens.

      keeping the brewing area/equipment clean/sanitised.
Iodine (Idopher?). Also Starsan goes along way, as well as Hydrogen Peroxide.

      • Iodine based sanitisers will stain, so that's not an option on most surfaces. The acidity in Starsan is also not great for things like kitchen bench tops. Same goes for H2O2, which can bleach things. I do use Starsan and H2O2 on a lot of stuff, but having Isopropyl available on a wiper gives me an option that will dry very quickly. Both Starsan and H2O2 treated surfaces will stay moist much longer.

    • Hoarders? Mate, you snooze, you lose. Surprised you expect stock 18+ hours after the deal's posted.
